    I have ADHD as well, so i struggle with overwhelm in highly customizable games like dreamlight and animal crossing. working on things small section by small section is the ONLY thing that's worked for me, and i'm so happy to see someone else do this and share this advice. dumping items in an open area for a visual on what is available to you is also a huge one. i can not remember or even visualize what i have available to me from memory.

    What helped me with wanting to start decorating was removing all the pre-placed structures and then moving my houses/buildings to the biomes I wanted them in. Then I started to decorate around the building/house. Usually starting with paths. Lol. I like the more natural aesthetic so I have a ton of flowers, trees, and bushes.

  • @jengibs
    @jengibs Год назад +21

    My method is extremely similar! I also have ADHD and get easily overwhelmed (and subsequently lose interest) very quickly! My first step is clear everything away and do the pathing just like you. However, my very first step with pathing is to establish routes that go to each mining rock in a biome. That way when I'm gathering resources I have a pre-established route that takes me everywhere I need to go. Then I fill in the rest. It's great to break up areas into manageable chunks, like you said, but this can also create a very efficient route for gathering resources and encourages me not to skip out on those tasks.

    • @Probably_Senpai
      @Probably_Senpai  Год назад +2

      Fair enough! I have a video on my channel regarding the most efficient iron route in the game. I worked on that video for so long that it's kind of been burned into my mind, so using pathing for my route isn't as necessary. 😅
      It's still a great idea, though!

  • @jewelofthenight

    Thank you so much. I actually found this really helpful! I also have ADHD and as much as I love decorating, I struggle with it (both irl and in life sims) because I deal with the same obstacles you do. Another thing I have to remind myself of is, "Just get started. Work on one area and just get started. It doesn't have to be perfect right away; you can always change things." It's easier to get into a flow/avoid getting stuck and get more inspired once I just start and see how things begin to look.

I just don’t know where to start or what to do. I found your channel and looooove! your valley design and even though our valleys would never look the same, you motivated me to give it a try. I’m playing on the switch and struggle with moving things, as the camera can trip me up a bit, but I do plan to give decorating a try. Thank you for the tips, have a great day!

    Another tip: You can double the item limit if your desired gaming platform allows for it (PS5 has the option while Nintendo Switch doesn't for instance). You can find it in general settings.
    The only downside is that it can be difficault to recieve visitors in multiplayer mode since they might play on a platform that cant handle the extra items very well (since the limit is partially there for performance related issues)

    I've learned a lot of tips from your videos! Some stuff I knew, but a whole lot I didn't.
    I love how you're so adamant about letting people know to do their own thing and be creative! There ISNT a wrong way to deco your valley! It can seem so daunting when you feel like you're not 'doing as well' as other people. BUT I promise practice makes perfect! As long as you think it's pretty, and cozy that's all that should ever matter

    • @Probably_Senpai
      @Probably_Senpai  Год назад +1

      Thank you so much, Jess! I'm glad you've found the videos helpful! There's so many knowledgeable and veteran players in our community, so it's always been extremely important to me for the videos to be just as entertaining as they are helpful. I want viewers to have a great experience even if they know all the facts already. 😁
      Breaking things down into smaller sections helped me SO much. I remember back when I first started decorating. I was already months into the game, and I kept putting it off. Sometimes, I would try and start and just get sidetracked. Eventually, I started emptying biomes and opened with pathing, and it just clicked for me. I know this approach isn't for everyone, but it felt important/helpful enough to share.
      Anyway, I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your feedback and that I'm glad you've found value in the content on my channel. Have a great day!

    These tips are super helpful!! Im really curious about how you got the wider moving shots of the valley. Is there a software for that?

    • @Probably_Senpai
      @Probably_Senpai  Год назад +2

      Hey Richie! Thanks for asking! You're the first one to ask about how the cinematography in these videos actually works!
      Truth is, it's all in game mechanics. I just screen record the game on my PC. I use two in-game actions to do the pans. One is the furniture menu. I crop out all the extras like text, menu options, etc.
      The other option is the camera option. If you press select on controller while in camera mode, the overlay will disappear, giving you a full screen! The downside with the camera, though, is it's not free and will be confined to the area your avatar occupies. I'm hoping the devs change that sometime.
      It's kind of tricky to explain exactly how the shots are captured, but I hope that helps. OBS Studio (the broadcasting software I use to live stream) is what I typically use to record the game footage.
      If you drop by my stream sometime, I will take time out of whatever I'm doing to show you exactly how it all works! Cheers!

    great tips, will definitely be using the pathing one. (I was waiting to craft fencing and pathing last and struggling a bit with the areas) I do have one question which is ;do you have any tips for people that feel stuck waiting for new items in their store?

    • @Probably_Senpai
      @Probably_Senpai  Год назад +1

      Well, it depends!
      Are you saying you're out of design options and are waiting to see things in the shop that would suit your needs, or is there a particular item you're expecting and/or waiting for?
      The tricky thing with the premium shop and/or Scrooges shop is that we never really know what may be coming the next day.
      The best advice I can give here is to do the best with what you have on hand. When new items arrive in the shop, you'll be able to incorporate them by removing items you placed previously.
      My biomes have transformed so many times with the addition of star paths and premium items. When it comes to waiting on new items, there's not much we can do except wait and work with what we have.
      Now, if you KNOW what item is coming and you're eagerly awaiting it, you can always build out an area for it ahead of time!
      Hope that helps! 🙏

    Nice video! You mention that you have trouble visualizing because you suffer from ADHD. If you do not already know about Aphantasia (Being unable to visualize) I hope you will look it up. It is a fascinating subject that may help understanding a lot about the way you live your life. I am not suffering from ADHD I myself but I can not see or produce mental images at all. I found out that is the reason I don't read books. I can't make a mental image of the characters in a novel - So I get bored reading. Dealing with grief and loss is also a very different experience to Aphants like me.

      @Probably_Senpai  Год назад

      Thank you, Denyel! Currently, I'm playing on PC, but I have experience with the game on Switch & Xbox as well! The only platform I haven't experienced the game on is Playstation. The experience on PC seems to be best. You have a lot of options and flexibility with resolution and textures within the graphics settings. It also helps that crashing is minimal on my PC. However, it does still occur at times.
      Mostly, when I'm using the fast travel / wishing well mechanic often, my game will lock up with me on the map, and I can't exit. This leads me to restart. It happens about once a day, so it's not too awful.

      Hey Margaret! Sounds like you're doing exactly what I did in the beginning! Way back when I started playing DDLV I focused on finishing all of the villager quests first. Once I was done, or at least far along enough, I finally started decorating. The best advice I can offer is to take small steps when decorating. Don't worry about the whole valley or even an entire biome.
      I started with my Plaza. I placed my shops and then put down some pathing. After that, for the next several weeks I slowly added to it whenever I was feeling creative. Just don't force it and remember, there is NO wrong way to decorate!
