Please bring back the indoor vintage chest that can be used outdoors!!! What purpose was served by changing that? I also liked the look of the original chest. I appreciate that there are larger chest sizes but the dreamlight cost to make them is ridiculous and prohibitive. Please give these a rethink!!!

I also agree that the chests are expensive, but the medium chest really isn't bad! 1000 dreamlight is easy! If it's iron you're needing I have a great tutorial for that on my channel!
It was a glitch that was never attended to function that way. however they did add a lightwood vintage chest that works in the same way that can be used outside.

Especially the infinity chest outside helps with reducing item counts. Before I figured out that I had a million chests taking up an item space. But now I have a million beautiful storage rooms inside. Same amount of chest just inside instead of outside.

Thank you for this info. I learned a few things. I wish I knew that the vintage chest would hold the same stuff in all of them before I got soooooo many of them. Hopefully at some point they'll let us sell stuff like furniture that we don't use.
i keep 1 at my farm, 1 in the room i sort all food items in, and 1 in my crafting room. that way i can put things in the one outside while running around and sort it later
I love coming back to this game and seeing its progress, I always hope to see jumping or running get added because it does take a minute to get from spot to spot without teleporting.
The devs have done a great job so far! You probably already know this, but we get increased movement speed when our energy bar is golden. It makes your avatar about 10% faster... not exactly sprinting but it's something 😂 Again, I'm sure you already knew this, but just in case, I figured I'd include it!
@@Probably_Senpai Knew about the gold bar which is very cool tbh, I play a lot of builder games so jumping and sprinting feel kinda ingrained in my brain for games like these maybe that is why I hope for it. But who knows the devs have been on their game for a lot so there is hope for the future.
Honestly, I was kind of hoping for more slots in both our personal inventory as well as our home Inventory. The new chests are very helpful I'll give them that, but I would have also liked to have seen more slots in our personal inventory and home Inventory.
Yes! Another pocket expansion! Or... hear me out, a *working* backpack! How cool would it be if we could throw on a backpack when you're planning on harvesting materials, mining, farming, ect?

I need to check and see if I have the light wood one. It would be more helpful then the basic ones I have in every biome near goofy's stall. I like having something to store local flowers, fish, and whatever special item spawns on the ground. Also I agree even though I want a number of large chests I can't make them I have over 150,000 dreamlight so the dreamlight is no issue but the dark wood is. I only have less than 100. Since it only shows up in the forgotten valley and it's hard to see I gotta stockpile it first
Nice! That's EXACTLY how I do my storage! 2 regular chests (usually for biome specific items) and one vintage chest! Also, I had around the same amount of Dreamlight but already used about 40K on the chests! The darkwood was no problem for me, though! I've been collecting for months and refused to use it! I just KNEW Gameloft was going to make something cool with it. We only have darkwood fencing and a few furniture items that require darkwood. I figured more was coming, so I stockpiled it! (The only reason I don't want to make more chests is because Gameloft might introduce more things that require dreamlight. I want to always keep at least 100k dreamlight if I can! Since I've already completed almost all of the dreamlight tasks the only way I can get more is via the daily dreamlight duties & dream shards) Currently sitting on around 850 darkwood. I had over 1K but I spent a lot on chests! If you want to make it a tad bit easier to get take four thin trees and drop them in the Forgotten land in the dry patches (the areas without grass)! Get rid of other trees so the wood is always in the same spots. Place a well close by and whenever you play teleport to the Forgotten Lands every half hour or so. This helped me stash a lot!
So, forgive the dense ness here…is there a specific thin tree? And do you know what the tree with the red spiky leaves is called? I can’t find it my list in case I want to replace it later! Thanks for a great video!
Thank you, this was super informative as i also used the dark wood chest in all biomes previously to offload my clean-up resources to sort them away later. Lets hope the light wood chest will keep its ability to be placed outside. I have not yet been lucky to snag one though.
I hope you get one soon! Better yet, I hope the devs realize this decision was very negatively received by the community. Maybe they never intended for the Dark Wood chest to go outside, but it's clearly a feature mamy enjoy. I don't think it hurts anything. It just makes it easier for us to stay organized. @@Probably_Senpai I dont get the idea of it to be honest. Even if it was never intended to be used outside, whom does it harm? Its a little quality of life that goes a long way, and its not even very cheesy either! I could also just move my house any and every time i move biomes to be close to where im doing stuff to then offload my stuff inside, or refill my stamina without having to go through the process of farming and cooking food. I can teleport freely around the map, free of charge and there is no cooldown to moving around the teleportation wells either, if i wanted i could just place one directly infront of my house... Like.... what was the point of removing the ability to place this chest outside? xD

So far I'm loving the new storage!! Very happy with having all my food in 8 refrigerators in my kitchen! LOL I do have the light wood chest so I'm good there. And I agree... I made 2 of the large storage chests and that will be all of that nonsense! Small and medium are great! Now if we could only further customize the signs.... why not allow full customization instead of a handful of icons? At any rate... so far loving the update and almost done with all the new stuff!! LOL
You and I are on the exact same page! I was hoping we would have an option to type on the customisable signs! It's kind of limited, and it would be cool if we could fill them in ourselves.

The dark wood vintage change was sad for me too. I was using it exactly the same way. One in each biome by the well and one in each of my storage rooms. Made life SOOOO easy. Just dump all my loot from a biome in that chest and on to the next. Cut my trips home by like 3.
With the new dlc comes a storage room overhaul. I now have to move my storage to the inside of my home (had my storage outside in the plaza area to avoid the loading screen for the house and rooms) for better access to all items (old and new) while being in both areas.
I have one big "dream"/hope - that we can either sell/or use the small chests as 'material' for making other things. Still early game for me, and those small chest are like weeds, they're everywhere! Still a way off for more than a couple of med chests, but working on it. Large would be great, but not at that cost.
Understandable! The large chests are definitely "late game" items. They're super easy to make once you have progressed far into the game, but in the first few months of gameplay, they're too expensive! I would also LOVE to see a system that allowed us to scrap crafted items to get materials back. It's too bad that we're all stuck with so many small chests, considering they become obsolete once you progress to a certain point. 😁
I used my darkwood chest for food storage & had 1 by each well. that way i never had to carry food. I also placed a reg chest next to ea well to store items from that area along with Goofy's store and I was set. Will be upgrading the small chest to med chest ASAP.
They just announced on Twitter that the chests not being able to be placed outside will return in next week's patch! Qa'pla! Looks like it was a glitch & NOT an intended feature.
I'm using the black dining table. At the time of this video, I found it more important to discuss the major changes brought to the storage mechanics so that players would have the necessary knowledge to build their ultimate storage room. This video was released in tandem with Dreamlight Valley's largest storage rework, so of course, that's what the video is about. Since you're watching this many months after it was released, I can see why you'd make the assumption that it was somekind of build tutorial. Though, there are definitely tons of storage build tutorials on RUclips if that's what you're looking for! 😁 Let me know if you have any other questions!
Small chests only use 25 of each of rocks and softwood. No Dreamlight at all. So, I just craft as much of them as I can. I would rather save on Dreamlight.
Thank you for all the information. But for me, at least, this storage update has come a little late. I've decided to stockpile only a minimum and only certain items, otherwise the quests are simply no fun and over in minutes.
There's no wrong way to play Dreamlight Valley! What's important is that you're focusing on what you enjoy! For me, my favorite feature in the game is creation! I love working to build a beautiful, unique, and inspiring valley! The quests are fun, and Gameloft did a great job with them, but I'd rather get them out of the way so I can focus on what I truly enjoy, being creative! 500+ hours in, and I'm not even close to halfway! (Also, consider that you don't have to use your stockpiled items to complete quests if you don't want to! You can always go find the items the quest requires, and leave the stockpiled goods alone! Just play at your own pace!)😁 All that said, I've loved the main story quest line so much! Can't wait to see what comes next!
Scrooges sucks in my village. I’m really sad they moved the dark wood chest to indoor only, haven’t gotten the light one yet. They also need to add a feature where we can sell furniture and clothing. Especially since I have 10 dark wood chests and other things I don’t need / want.
I agree. Especially if they're going to suddenly alter items like this. I have 16 dark wood chests. 2 are in my house and the other 14 will most likely sit in my pockets forever. At least they don't take up space. 🤷
Medium chests are a waste of Dreamlight imo. Especially if you eventually want the big ones. Just grind the Dreamlight, so you don’t waste Dreamlight on the med, only to need the large later.
Yeah, medium chests would totally be a waste if you ONLY want gold. Though, you don't really need gold chests for everything. They are massive. Medium chests are already double what standard chests were and cost one 5th of what the large ones do. I have nearly six hundred hours in the game and could fit most of my belongings in a room of medium chests. It really depends on what you're planning. That's why I stated in the video if you want to just make a bunch of gold chests, go for it! For me personally, I'd rather not spend that much dreamlight (at least not right now... maybe once I get up to 300K dreamlight). We never know when Gameloft might add another cool item that requires dreamlight, and I want to always have at least 100K dreamlight. I also mentioned that this was the case for my "current" game state. I can always make more chests later. 1K dreamlight is nothing. You can make that in a day. 😅 All that said, I see where you're coming from. If you want all gold chests may as well work towards that goal and not make the mediums. Just don't cofuse "wanting" something with "needing" something. The medium chests are plenty. We've all gotten by using just the small ones up to this point so we don't "need" the gold... it's just convenient and they look pretty. It's more about wanting that flex!
OK, you all know by now that the Devs changed the dark wood vintage chest back to being indoor and outdoor. However, I only need one vintage chest at home and one in my furniture storage. The vintage chest is the only storage chest--to my knowledge--that can be placed back into storage full. When needed in any biome, I just take it out, place whatever inside, then remove it back into furniture storage. Works well.
So, a couple of quick things on my reply here! First, yeah the devs said they never meant to make the vintage chest indoor only. This was fixed and announced about 3 days ago. Secondly, yeah... you can keep a vintage chest in your furniture tab. I always have extras incase I want to drop one... but it gets so tedius to have to go into your build menu every single time you want to put things in or take things out. I keep an extra chest in my inventory just like you do... but I also keep one in each biome and each room. Why not utilize both options? They're so cheap from Scrooge. Personally, I hate having to go into my building menu every single time I want to use the vintage chest. Though, there's no wrong way to play this game, so if you want to physically place it every single time, then go for it!
@@Probably_Senpai Yes; whatever works! I fear that the chest takes up precious space in the limited # of duplicate items we can have which is why I do it. Also, I open up the furniture frequently to cage my farming buddies and to search for chests, so for me, it's much less bothersome. Thanks so much for your reply!
Why didn't they allow us to upgrade/expand our small storage chests to use all 6 rows? Why even design them with 6 rows if we were never going to be able to expand them>

Hey L! A recipe/crafting item will not appear until you have all the required ingredients! Have you unlocked the Forgotten Lands? The Large chest requires dark wood (you will not find this item until the end of the game)!
No problem at all! Happy to help! The game doesn't necessarily explain this feature. Anyway, once you open all the biomes and collect all the materials, you should have most of the recipes. Some materials will need to be refined to access certain recipes such as clay is refined to brick and seaweed is refined to fiber. That said, certain quests will require you to knock these out at some point! Good luck with your valley!
@probablysenpai Does anyone know about the fact that you can't rotate anything (furniture, buildings, etc) when playing from a Mac? Was hoping they would have fixed that in the update 😔
Whaaaat?! There's no way to rotate?! It should be "right click" on mouse and keyboard! I know Macs sometimes don't have a left/right click and only a single but a mouse with a left/right click should fix that. Also, you could try plugging in a controller. There are Mac compatible controllers. The game should be able to detect it and map out the bumpers to rotate.
Yes! Check the video description for the update. 😁 The Dark Wood vintage chest was luckily fixed a while ago. The devs rolled out a patch and said the change was unintended!

@kristy Singletary:I think the small chests are only suppose to be small chests so they are suppose to have less slots than the medium and larger chests
@Megan McKnight I think you've got the wrong idea as to what Kristy is implying here. Kristy was stating that it would be cool if we could now "pay" the extra material cost to "upgrade" our pre-existing small chests. Since the community crafted hundreds of small chests BEFORE this update they've all been made somewhat obsolete. What Kristy is saying here is the ability to upgrade those small chest into medium & larges would help them serve a purpose. You would still have the small/medium/& large chests! Hope that makes sense!
All the items i had in the vintage storage chest is completely gone with the chest itself .I had so many gems in it, I had to go and re mine everything. Im so sad !
You cannot expand small chests. The only have the 16 slots. If you want bigger chests you have to craft either medium or large chests as shown in the video. Cheers! 😁
I hope they will rethink using dreamlight for crafting the larger chest because you are right it's ridiculous and tedious. I hope they will unlink the Dark wood vintage chest from our home. So that way we can use multiple of them without them having the same inventory every time. Also hopefully they will fix it where we can place the dark wood vintage chest outside again to. Hopefully they let us buy gold coins and dreamlight with real money someday too. As long as the price is right of course. Also I hope they will lower the price for the moonstones from the premium shop and the moonstones amount for the items too as will.
Are you on Switch? If you try to put the wrong gems in, it will glitch! Restart your switch and them make sure you use the right gems and it should work!
I agree! The cost is high! That said, there's not a whole lot to spend dreamlight on right now. Most people don't bother with the potions or polish. The devs likely did it this way to keep people invested and to keep them working towards a goal. Building the ideal storage room will definitely take a long time... Wish it were cheaper! That said, the iron one is wayyy cheaper and holds almost as much as the gold. Just use that one!
I only made a few to make it more convenient like I fit all the vegetables in one, fruit in another, gems in a 3rd. Otherwise I just made the middle one to change few more to be less cluttered in my storage rooms

The dark wood vintage change was sad for me too. I was using it exactly the same way. One in each biome by the well and one in each of my storage rooms. Made life SOOOO easy. Just dump all my loot from a biome in that chest and on to the next. Cut my trips home by like 3.
Not sure if you heard but the devs did patch this! They said they never meant to make it indoor only and it has been fixed!

With the new dlc comes a storage room overhaul. I now have to move my storage to the inside of my home (had my storage outside in the plaza area to avoid the loading screen for the house and rooms) for better access to all items (old and new) while being in both areas.
I have one big "dream"/hope - that we can either sell/or use the small chests as 'material' for making other things. Still early game for me, and those small chest are like weeds, they're everywhere! Still a way off for more than a couple of med chests, but working on it. Large would be great, but not at that cost.
Understandable! The large chests are definitely "late game" items. They're super easy to make once you have progressed far into the game, but in the first few months of gameplay, they're too expensive!
I would also LOVE to see a system that allowed us to scrap crafted items to get materials back. It's too bad that we're all stuck with so many small chests, considering they become obsolete once you progress to a certain point. 😁

I used my darkwood chest for food storage & had 1 by each well. that way i never had to carry food. I also placed a reg chest next to ea well to store items from that area along with Goofy's store and I was set. Will be upgrading the small chest to med chest ASAP.
So the small chest will never open up all the slots? That’s why they have the medium and large. Ok. Got it.

I'm using the black dining table. At the time of this video, I found it more important to discuss the major changes brought to the storage mechanics so that players would have the necessary knowledge to build their ultimate storage room.
This video was released in tandem with Dreamlight Valley's largest storage rework, so of course, that's what the video is about. Since you're watching this many months after it was released, I can see why you'd make the assumption that it was somekind of build tutorial. Though, there are definitely tons of storage build tutorials on RUclips if that's what you're looking for! 😁

5K is a lot but the iron ones are reasonable!
Small chests only use 25 of each of rocks and softwood. No Dreamlight at all. So, I just craft as much of them as I can. I would rather save on Dreamlight.
Thank you for all the information. But for me, at least, this storage update has come a little late. I've decided to stockpile only a minimum and only certain items, otherwise the quests are simply no fun and over in minutes.
There's no wrong way to play Dreamlight Valley! What's important is that you're focusing on what you enjoy! For me, my favorite feature in the game is creation! I love working to build a beautiful, unique, and inspiring valley! The quests are fun, and Gameloft did a great job with them, but I'd rather get them out of the way so I can focus on what I truly enjoy, being creative! 500+ hours in, and I'm not even close to halfway!
(Also, consider that you don't have to use your stockpiled items to complete quests if you don't want to! You can always go find the items the quest requires, and leave the stockpiled goods alone! Just play at your own pace!)😁
All that said, I've loved the main story quest line so much! Can't wait to see what comes next!

I’m really sad they moved the dark wood chest to indoor only, haven’t gotten the light one yet. They also need to add a feature where we can sell furniture and clothing. Especially since I have 10 dark wood chests and other things I don’t need / want.
I agree. Especially if they're going to suddenly alter items like this. I have 16 dark wood chests. 2 are in my house and the other 14 will most likely sit in my pockets forever. At least they don't take up space. 🤷
What I plan on doing for mine is each room is going to be four different color unless there's way too much and then I'll do all three or four rooms.
Medium chests are a waste of Dreamlight imo. Especially if you eventually want the big ones. Just grind the Dreamlight, so you don’t waste Dreamlight on the med, only to need the large later.
Yeah, medium chests would totally be a waste if you ONLY want gold. Though, you don't really need gold chests for everything. They are massive. Medium chests are already double what standard chests were and cost one 5th of what the large ones do. I have nearly six hundred hours in the game and could fit most of my belongings in a room of medium chests. It really depends on what you're planning.
That's why I stated in the video if you want to just make a bunch of gold chests, go for it! For me personally, I'd rather not spend that much dreamlight (at least not right now... maybe once I get up to 300K dreamlight). We never know when Gameloft might add another cool item that requires dreamlight, and I want to always have at least 100K dreamlight. I also mentioned that this was the case for my "current" game state. I can always make more chests later. 1K dreamlight is nothing. You can make that in a day. 😅
All that said, I see where you're coming from. If you want all gold chests may as well work towards that goal and not make the mediums. Just don't cofuse "wanting" something with "needing" something. The medium chests are plenty. We've all gotten by using just the small ones up to this point so we don't "need" the gold... it's just convenient and they look pretty. It's more about wanting that flex!
OK, you all know by now that the Devs changed the dark wood vintage chest back to being indoor and outdoor. However, I only need one vintage chest at home and one in my furniture storage. The vintage chest is the only storage chest--to my knowledge--that can be placed back into storage full. When needed in any biome, I just take it out, place whatever inside, then remove it back into furniture storage. Works well.
So, a couple of quick things on my reply here!
First, yeah the devs said they never meant to make the vintage chest indoor only. This was fixed and announced about 3 days ago.
Secondly, yeah... you can keep a vintage chest in your furniture tab. I always have extras incase I want to drop one... but it gets so tedius to have to go into your build menu every single time you want to put things in or take things out.
I keep an extra chest in my inventory just like you do... but I also keep one in each biome and each room. Why not utilize both options? They're so cheap from Scrooge.
Personally, I hate having to go into my building menu every single time I want to use the vintage chest. Though, there's no wrong way to play this game, so if you want to physically place it every single time, then go for it!
@@Probably_Senpai Yes; whatever works! I fear that the chest takes up precious space in the limited # of duplicate items we can have which is why I do it. Also, I open up the furniture frequently to cage my farming buddies and to search for chests, so for me, it's much less bothersome. Thanks so much for your reply!

Hey L! A recipe/crafting item will not appear until you have all the required ingredients! Have you unlocked the Forgotten Lands? The Large chest requires dark wood (you will not find this item until the end of the game)!

The game doesn't necessarily explain this feature. Anyway, once you open all the biomes and collect all the materials, you should have most of the recipes. Some materials will need to be refined to access certain recipes such as clay is refined to brick and seaweed is refined to fiber. That said, certain quests will require you to knock these out at some point! Good luck with your valley!
My vintage chest was used for storage cause 50 of each type all fit in the one box.. so for me it’s not too big a change honestly

@probablysenpai Does anyone know about the fact that you can't rotate anything (furniture, buildings, etc) when playing from a Mac? Was hoping they would have fixed that in the update 😔
Whaaaat?! There's no way to rotate?! It should be "right click" on mouse and keyboard! I know Macs sometimes don't have a left/right click and only a single but a mouse with a left/right click should fix that. Also, you could try plugging in a controller. There are Mac compatible controllers. The game should be able to detect it and map out the bumpers to rotate.

Yes! Check the video description for the update. 😁 The Dark Wood vintage chest was luckily fixed a while ago. The devs rolled out a patch and said the change was unintended!

@Megan McKnight I think you've got the wrong idea as to what Kristy is implying here. Kristy was stating that it would be cool if we could now "pay" the extra material cost to "upgrade" our pre-existing small chests. Since the community crafted hundreds of small chests BEFORE this update they've all been made somewhat obsolete.
What Kristy is saying here is the ability to upgrade those small chest into medium & larges would help them serve a purpose. You would still have the small/medium/& large chests!

You cannot expand small chests. The only have the 16 slots. If you want bigger chests you have to craft either medium or large chests as shown in the video. Cheers! 😁
I hope they will rethink using dreamlight for crafting the larger chest because you are right it's ridiculous and tedious. I hope they will unlink the Dark wood vintage chest from our home. So that way we can use multiple of them without them having the same inventory every time. Also hopefully they will fix it where we can place the dark wood vintage chest outside again to. Hopefully they let us buy gold coins and dreamlight with real money someday too. As long as the price is right of course. Also I hope they will lower the price for the moonstones from the premium shop and the moonstones amount for the items too as will.
Is anyone having issues with putting the gems in the Olaf quest in their slots?
Are you on Switch? If you try to put the wrong gems in, it will glitch! Restart your switch and them make sure you use the right gems and it should work!
That is way too much and unreasonable amount of dreamlight to burn just to craft one single big chest!...this is quite disappointing...
I agree! The cost is high! That said, there's not a whole lot to spend dreamlight on right now. Most people don't bother with the potions or polish. The devs likely did it this way to keep people invested and to keep them working towards a goal. Building the ideal storage room will definitely take a long time... Wish it were cheaper!
That said, the iron one is wayyy cheaper and holds almost as much as the gold. Just use that one!
I only made a few to make it more convenient like I fit all the vegetables in one, fruit in another, gems in a 3rd. Otherwise I just made the middle one to change few more to be less cluttered in my storage rooms
