I know these videos are posted two years ago, but I'm following your playlist today. This one especially (so far I've watched) has been very informative! Thank you for sharing!
Ive used FL studio for almost 2 decades, found this open source software LMMS, your course is helping me learn the interface real fast. Amazing software n amazing tutorials. Thanks
This is such an amazing series of videos on LMMS. In fact it's the best on You Tube and I actually bookmarked the whole playlist on my phone last time. I very rarely bookmark a whole playlist on any subject. You go through every single part of the software and how to make a song. I had never made a song in my life until a couple years ago when I first watched these videos of yours and got LMMS, quite frankly, it all looked so complicated I never thought I'd get my head around it. Ok I'm only now doing my second bit of music and I'm never going to be to Elton John's standards, but I can now open LMMS and get straight in to adding notes and instruments, even after a couple years gap of not playing on it and that's down to your good teaching my friend. I'm watching them again to find out how to highlight a group of notes and move them and copy and paste them, as I could remember how to highlight them in the box but not how to move them. I only did that once last time, so I guess it's understandable I forgot it in this time. But any how, now I found how to do that I'm still going to watch your whole playlist all the way through again, just because it's fun to watch and I might find some bits of more advanced information I didn't try out last time too.
3:23 "now I put it back to 140". You can click two times and then a pop up window appears to enter the number, this works for every knob too, so you avoid the problem of trying to be precise with the mouse wheel, much easier just to enter the numbers.
You have a very nice, casual but precise way of delivering the info. And very viewer friendly. Thank you very much. I will now watch your video's for info. Best Kevin
these videos are great! got into recording and music production in highschool briefly with FL studio free, now as an adult I've switched to Linux and LMMS is really meeting my needs at the moment, and I now know how to use it thanks to these vids, great content!!
One question I'd like to ask though, is it better to do the notes of the song first and then the beat, or is it better to do the beat first, then add the notes after.
Is there a way to adjust where in the virtual keyboard my laptop keyboard is mapped to? The bottom row Z,X,C, etc are too low and if like them higher up. Many thanks, love the videos
How do you make the piano sound like a piano. Im trying to make a soft melody and none of your videos tackle how to make it softer. I dont have a plug in so i have to work with what I have
not sure if you're still interested, but you should definitely look into the video on ZynAddSubFX if you are! it has countless effects and all of them sound extremely realistic!
i hate the fact that the goddamn sound of instruments is interrupded. try to put in a note, 1/4 on C4, for example, and play it. it sounds interrupted, like at the end of the note... there is no fine ending. it is just... nothing. how do i change that?
Hi TJFree, just discovered this great program and your tutorials are fantastic. I have a quetion if anyone can anwswer this....it's regarding the key. By default, the Piano Roll starts in the key of C, and you can see the C is highlighted on the left C keys. When I choose a scale and highlight them using the context menu, the green-most lines always start at the C key, suggesting that is the base note to be played. I'm looking to change these to a different key. Does anyone know whether it's possible? Many thanks. :)
Vst4free.com has a lot of good free vst instrumental plugins. To use these you would have to use vestige (a vst host built into lmms by default) instead of the triple oscillator. Usually these instruments come as DLL files which you then load into lmms using vestige. You can also search for free sound fonts and load them into lmms using the sf2 player.

Thanks for being so helpful. You rock.
where did you get your midi keyboard - also loving these tutorials
I bought this a while ago, it was just the cheapest USB midi keyboard on Amazon. It's small, and only has two octives, I really don't use it much.
super helpfull video, but do u know how you change the piano to a different sounding one.
Hi Jackback. Check out Lesson 9 of this series to learn about changing instrument sounds.
Control Z is literally the most useful thing anyone can learn on a computer.
Nice set of functions here. Curious if the most recent has these too?
Very helpful!!
Nice video, but you forgot to explain how to connect to Midi keyboards

Hey! you got a video dedicated to shortcuts?
How do you do these same functions without a middle click?

Hope he explains how to quantize? if you can in the piano roll
How can I change the bpm on different basslines?
I use the 1.1.3 version of LMMS and I cant seem to find the metronome
The version that is being used is a beta version, LMMS 1.2.0 RC6. You can download the updated beta, LMMS 1.2.0 RC7 from the site
in my version, you hit the black triangle and metronome starts, I've been looking for a few minutes for the button shown in the video, it isn't there.
Does someone know how to enable ghost notes in the piano roll
One of my new favorite softwares! Could you tell me where I might find more sounds and loops for this app?
you can download samples off the web and add them too your music. websites like freesound.org
Vst4free.com has a lot of good free vst instrumental plugins. To use these you would have to use vestige (a vst host built into lmms by default) instead of the triple oscillator. Usually these instruments come as DLL files which you then load into lmms using vestige.

good job, thanks =)
Tip: Always and ALWAYS whn you record yourself playing, set the tempo lower, helps a lot
How do I get more piano notes? Can someone help me
how do i go an octave higher on my keyboad on my pc? i wanna go up to c7
Anybody know how to crop the piano roll track so that I can choose how big it is in the editor?
I want to know how to make cords that don't clip. That was an important detail that you skipped.
what about scale ??????
Thank you soooo much!!
Can you tell what is the dropdown thing which "No scale" is selected currently? I read its description but didn't understand what it meant.
You can select a scale like minor or major. To show it in the piano roll, just right-click a piano tile.
great!
Can you follow along with the tutorials if you have no prior understanding of music?
Hi, everyone! I want to ask you if it is possible to reverse notes from the piano roll. If it is, how can I do that? Have a nice day!
Yeah u talked about that alredi i been following u good tutorial i was wondering i have to use all the instruments
Agh, I think I prefer the draw mode than the record mode.. I can't barely follow the metronome..
Me 2
Can u pitchbend???
Yes
what keyboard works with this programm?
Any midi piano keyboard should be compatible with LMMS.. You can also play midi/notation using your computer keyboard, this is setup by default.
how to make a intro like ' tjfree'
Shame that I wasn't allowed to take my keyboard to my new home..
how can i make it stop sounding like an organ lol
Tool bar to the left, click in Instrument Plugins and then drag and drop one into your project.
Show note keys? G, F? Etc ? Never mind found it.. settings../ enable piano notes on roll or something like that see ya.
