STRONGER GLASSES EVERY TIME I SEE THE OPTOMETRIST | Finding out every glasses correction I have had

  • I have recently found an app that allows me to find out the corrections of all my glasses. And of course, I discovered that I got stronger glasses every time I was prescribed a new pair from the optometrist.
Finally I can see journey into -3 dioptre myopia and how my vision kept getting worse and how my glasses strength kept going up.
In this video, I will tell you just how quickly I developed -3 myopia, at which point I had to wear glasses all the time in order to function.
(And I include some photos from the archives too).

    🤓 A little about my eyesight: 🤓
I have had glasses for astigmatism since I was 7 years old, but I only needed them for specific circumstances, like reading blackboards or night driving (not when I was 7, obviously).
At the age of 22 I landed an office job, and with my lovely new money I bought a smart phone. 6 months later, I had myopia (also known as short sightedness or near sightedness) and had to wear glasses full-time.
My prescription has been going up since then, and I have been freaking out as I sit back and watch my eyesight deteriorate, feeling helpless and scared.
I was up to -3 in my left eye, and -2.5 in my right eye when I discovered Jake Steiner and the EndMyopia method.
I am still only a few months in, but already I am seeing at almost -2.00 in my left eye -1.75 in my right eye. Small changes, but any improvement is amazing when my eyes have only been deteriorating for the last 10 years.
I am loving knowing more about eyesight and how eyes function. It's fascinating, and learning so much feels empowering. I love that I no longer feel helpless about my vision. I have also quit my smartphone so I could get over my screen addiction. I even bought a Nokia to get me out of temptation's way! Since doing this, I have been making progress with my vision, but also have regained so much of my life and time and perspective, so this vision journey is definitely having positive knock-on effects in my life as a whole.

I used to do endmyopia years ago. I went from -3 give or take to -2, which I still have my prescriptions off. Now I am back on board. I always wore less D's, but my eyes were getting worse and worse, of course, I am sitting on my phone all day. Now I got a new measurement, -3.50, which is crazy. I can read 2 lines below the 20/20 with those, so I ordered -3.00 and I can still read 20/20 and 20/25 ish. I'm going to do active focus with those for some months and go for -2.75 once I am ready for that. For now, my glasses are 20/25 and 20/30 give or take. I used to have my normalised on 20/40, but those were too much for my daily doings. I also checked if my snellen distance is right, and it was: Meassure the distance of the top E line (20/200) and divide that value by 88 and times 6= meters that you need to stand from your snellen. The marker that I had was still on the ground, so I am glad that was ok. Weird how the shops overscribe people like me. -3.50, man I was seeing like a laser.

Not only like a laser, but like in drugs hallucination effect.
I was reading when eyes see 20/20 instantly it starts to perform saccades movement, in other words it starts tracking tiny details, shifting. When an eye is too undercorrected it gave up to scan details and tend to stare to make things clear and this pattern creates a vicious cycle that may leads to more myopia.
In your case, maybe at -2D it would be a good choice to begin with the plus lenses like Todd Becker. I saw a tons of Endmyopia students facing stagnations/plateau.
The only few who did not face any long period of lack improvement was that one who was wearing contact lenses and on the top of that a plus lenses glasses. I still believe plus glasses over minus lenses is different than just the same diopter number in an undercorrected glasses.

    Hi Gem,
    Background OD policy.
    Prescribe for "best vision sphere".
    Ask them about this policy.
This means when you have 20/40, you will be Prescribed a -2 to -3 Diopter lens.
This is a "fools errand", if you trust this policy.
This is why I pass the DMV, and make my own accurate refractive measurements.
    They are "playing you".
That is why I ask a person to use his own Snellen.
You are "sucker punched", if you do not check.

What you document is true, for 95% of us.
Once you put a kid into a minus lens, the kids refraction goes in only one direction, DOWN!
Thus is why I support Jake.
Get out of it as rapidly as possible, when at 20/50.

A Mild +0.5 diopters at age 8 years.
Those were myopia PREVENTION plus lenses.
Had you been taught to wear a +2 for all close work, you would have kept your (20/40), Snellen and better, for life.
A study proving this "dynamic eye concept ", has been published, and totally ignored!!
    Why?
Because people hate prevention if offered by a dedicated Optometrist, when you were at 20/40.
In my opinion, we should tske this science, very seriously.
Both of us "lost our vision", to that first minus lens, and the fact that our scientific intelligence was not respected.
Maybe, one day, we will be offered a choice, when we are still at 20/40.

I didn't know that wearing + (plus) will stop the advancing of myopia.
I KNOW FOR A FACT that wearing - (minus) lenses will prevent the advancing of hyperopia.
Farsightedness is overexertion of the ciliary muscles causing eyestrain in seeing up close, because the eyeball is too short. Although nearsighted glasses will TEMPORARILY increase suffering for farsighted people, there is a sudden ~BOING~ great RELIEF once the minus glasses are removed!

It's me again. The retired optician. Very interesting that your very first glasses had a very weak reading prescription in them and not an astigmatism correction you thought you were given. Apparently for you to think that someone where you had your eyes examined must have told you that you had astigmatisms. But what's interesting is, as you well know, when you have astigmatisms you have a cylinder number as well as an axis number. Now here is something you may not be aware of. If you had your eyes examined by an ophthalmologist and not an optometrist that would explain the plus if it was in the cylinder spaces. But you did indicate that the +.50 was in the SPH spaces and not the CYL spaces. You said you got your first glasses in year two which was in 1995 and and you must have been around the age of 8 or 9 when you got your glasses. I'm surprised that any doctor would have prescribed you with glasses that weak because at that age your eyes would have been strong enough on their own without any need for glasses. But if in fact you really were supposed to get glasses for astigmatisms, that would be completely different and a bit more necessary for several reasons. It only takes a small amount of astigmatisms to cause frequent headaches. And astigmatisms effects eyesight at all distances. So astigmatisms glasses would have been somewhat helpful to you in seeing the board much the way being myopic helps the eyes. Even though your glasses really weren't necessary at all I'm sure you thought you looked really "cool" wearing them. And they really didn't have much effect on your eyes at all did they. I doubt you even noticed any difference wearing them from not wearing them. Do you even remember ever actually wearing them to see something you couldn't otherwise see without them? Now fast forward 3 years to 1998 and you were now 11 years old. This time it seems they got it right No way of ever figuring out how yo ever ended up with those plus glasses. But like i said they were really too weak to do any harm to your eyes and you probably enjoyed wearing them from time to time just for fun and be "cool". Now you finally have glasses that you actually were able to see better wearing when you needed to see something at a distance. Those glasses looked really cute on you and you seemed to like them. So between the age of 11 and 18, I assume you had your eyes checked several times and apparently your glasses were still all you needed for a prescription. Now in 2006 you got you were only getting your third pair of glasses. So your eyesight really stayed very good since getting your first glasses. Surprisingly, that from the age of 11 your eyesight didn't change enough for you to even need new glasses. But you had a frame you were in love with and you pretty much talked the doctor into writing you a new prescription Now for the first time your glasses will have the very slightest prescription for distance in your left eye. Your cylinders increased by a -.25 on each eye as well. But your glasses were still extremely weak. But your astigmatism was now at a point where you should have been starting to wear glasses more and more often or even fulltime. Do you remember how much you wore those glasses you just had to have? Moving along, and it's now 2010 and your 22 years old and getting your fourth pair of glasses. Sometime between 2006 and 2010 you became a fulltime working girl and your job had you staring at a computer screen for 8 hours a day. Then you went home and spent even more time on your laptop and I-Phone so your eyes were really being over worked and over strained and your eyesight was was being ruined as result. When you got your driver's license even though you wore glasses your eyesight was probably still good enough for you pass without being required to wear glasses to drive. But now you weren't able to see to drive at night safely. So you had to get your eyes examined and new glasses. Now your new prescription was considerably stringer than your previous glasses. Now you were nearsighted in both eyes. Your prescription increased in your right eye from -0.00 to -0.50 and in your left eye from 0.25 to 1.00.. but your cylinder had decreased slightly from -0.75 to -0.50 in both eyes. But when putting your SPH and CYL together you were really at -0.75 and -1.25 So no wonder you didn't feel safe driving at night anymore. You got your glasses with transition lenses which I assume you were planning on wearing glasses fulltime once you got them. Prior to when you started wearing glasses fulltime you probably never had the under eye darkness and "bags" as you call them under your eyes did you? That tends to happen as a result of the the UV in your lenses blocking your eyes. The good news is that as long as you had your glasses on that darkness and undereye bags weren't really noticeable. And of course concealer. works really well. So your next glasses came just a year later in 2011 and you were then 23. Apparently, your excessive amount of screen time was really effecting your eyes. At 23 most young women that age are seeing their eyesight become more and more stable and even stop changing completely. But your eyesight seemed to be increasing rather than becoming stable. Because you weren't able to find that pair of glasses you were only able to estimate about what the prescription may have been in them. You were probably very close in doing that by taking the previous prescription and then the one after the missing pair and splitting the difference. So an increase of about -0.75 in your right eye and -0.50 in your left eye. That's quite an increase in just a years time. I'm sure your job had be the main reason for such an increase. Your next increase came in 2013 at the age of 25. This increase added another -0.50 SPH to both eyes. By now you're quite nearsighted and without a doubt wearing glasses constantly.

      Exactly, Jim.
At some point from age 11 to 18, I asked the optometrist at one of my check ups what was up with my eyes and she told me I had astigmatism. I had never asked before, so I assumed that had always been the issue. I had no idea that my first glasses were not for astigmatism, and I have no other reason to have believed they were except for this one conversation.
But the first time I got glasses was because I put on mum's reading glasses and looked at something close up and said "that's better!" and so much got worried I needed glasses. Probably was just relaxing for my ciliary to look close up and not have to do much XD And I guess my mum may very well have taken me to the optometrist and told them this story, and her glasses were probably a low plus so.... As you say - wouldn't have done any harm. And yeah, I only wore them for the cool effect. I didn't need them.
I did need my glasses in high school to see the black board if I sat near the back of class.
The frames I just HAD to have, that introduced the -0.25 sph I still only wore on and off. But probably more often than the previous ones because, again, the cool factor. I loved those things.
It was indeed when I got the ones with transition lenses that I was wearing them most of the time.
Yeah, my computer job would not have helped, although I had been on a computer plenty in high school, writing essays and wasting time on MSN chat. XD But the 8 hours, when I COULDN"T just stop using the computer because I was paid to be there on it, and the phone use on my commute to and from work.... Not good. :(

If I couldn't have worn glasses for 6 weeks at that level, my life would have been very affected. In EndMyopia, a zero diopter reset (wearing no glasses) would last maximum 1 day. Usually only a few hours before you change to a new pair of lower correction glasses. 20 minutes without glasses in the morning can be helpful too. But quitting glasses for 6 weeks from -3 would not be very helpful, according to this method.

    I have -7 sph and -3cyl can I make my close-up glass -5sph and -2cyl ???
Actually the question is can I reduce sph and cyl both on close up Glass?

You can reduce both sph and cyl in close-up glasses if you want, but you don't have to.
What you are suggesting would be a very big drop - 2D of sph and 1D of cyl - that is the equivalent of 2.5D of sph!
Dropping 1D of cyl is like dropping 0.5D of sph. And you only want 1-2 diopters less for close up. So if you are dropping 1D of cyl, you wouldn't want to drop any more than 1.5 of sph. That would be equivalent to 2D of sph when added together. But that is an aggressive drop. I find 1.5D drop works better for differentials for me. So that could be dropping 1D of sph and 1D of cyl. Or dropping 1.25D of sph and 0.5D of cyl. Or even just dropping 1.5D of sph and leaving you cyl as is. A lot of ways to do it, and I can't tell you which one will work best for your eyes - you will have to give it a go for yourself and see.
This, of course, is not personal diopter specific advice - just explaining the general EndMyopia approach. What you do with your eyes is, of course, your own choice. I am just a random person on the internet, and have no optometry or medical credentials at all.

Eyes stinging and watering, it's the peripheral; you might've been dodging sunlight.

eyes stinging and watering is dry eyes, active focus dries the eyes out in the beginning, how do I know, I active focused with NO spasm, still stung and watered. Right after my LASIK you wanna talk about stinging without watering, my eyes would not water much at all. Now they are fine. Peripheral could be involved somehow because when I notice my peripheral while looking at engages active focus.
