    Hi Gemily,
    Jake is a profound leader and success.
    You are doing everything thing RIGHT!
    It is very difficult to fight your way out of myopia (negatve state of eye), almost completely alone.
    Your measurement skills will improve, with time and practice.
    I use my Bright Snellen and Test Lenses for best accuracy.
    What destroyed my vision, completely, was a strong minus lens given to me, when I was still at 20/50. I stupidly accepted it, and wore it.
    We need better and more honest Optometrists, who would discuss the prevention option, at that point in our lives!

      You are so right about Jake. He has helped so many of us "see the light". Haha.
      I imagine having a test lens kit would be great. Very much looking forward to being able to read even 20/50 on my Snellen without correction. It will come!

    Hi Gem,
    You have a Snellen.
    I hope you are reading the 20/60 line.

    Hi Gem,
    I measure my vision, by turning on a light and reading at least 20/50.
    Then I use a -1 Diopter, to verify 20/20.
    But I refuse to wear that minus lens, except to drive a car.

    Deciding, where blur begins, is definitely a hard nut to crack, in the beginning.
    Just back from holiday and kinda stating from zero again, now. I had planned, to use it as a kind of ‚reset‘, but due to bad weather, I had lots more ‚close up time‘, than planned. Feels, like I forgot most of what I‘d learned so far already again. Good thing, I took notes on the important stuff, at least. 😆

I also make some notes about the weather and some activities prior to the measurements that might effect my eyesight. in addition if you have proper distance correction so your both eyes working on same level, it would be easier for you to switch to your differencials, moreover if you have proper distance you may even have equal differentials if they have proper cylinder. Idea is that eyes should not strain at all and only one way to achieve it for myop is to have good distance where both eyes receiving same picture and proper differencials with proper cyl to help eyes to properly accommodate. people with cylinder would never proper accommodate with only spherical power. That's why all endmyopia people suffering from eye strain and scared to use distance glasses for close up work even for one second.

    AB : " How does this possiby work ...".
    My response:
    Your own developing expertise ... must make you successful.
    I have been doing this work for 40 years.
    (For my blood relatives!)
    The absolute judgment, must be a Bright Snellen at 20 feet.
    This means your 20/40, consistently, is practical success.
    In my judgement, I must use low cost test lenses (4 for $25), to confirn that I have no medical problem.
    (You should include this, eventually.)
    Once prepared, it takes a real professional commitment.
    Gemily, you have the drive to do it.
    The most important success for you, is reading and passing the 20/60 line, at home.
    Medical involvement, is a waste of your money and time.
    You must stand alone.
    I do not want you to become frustrated, or discouraged, but this does require a long term effort.

    Hi Gemily,
    Thanks for another wonderful and entertaining video on your progress towards 20/20 vision. I will have to discuss with my future partner about doing Jake's measuring course, be it the $129USD or $179USD one. I do think that the measuring course will be beneficial for me. If I decide to do the course later on, I will have to check Jake's website to see if the measuring course still has vacancies at that time. It was about 53 years ago, when I was 10 years old, that I started wearing glasses in the classroom. I don't know if the prescription was for astigmatism or astigmatism and myopia. My current prescription from Specsavers is, OS -7.5 and OD -6.0. From this video, I can see that measuring this distance will be more important for me as there's not much margin for error compared to where you are at the moment. From what you demonstrated, there's less margin for error measuring the vision distance when the diopter level is -4 or higher. From what I've seen of the printable version of Jake's ruler, it's in sections and they have to be joined together using sticky tape. I know the one you showed in the video is from the measuring course, did you have to join the sections together when you got it with the course? This video answered a question that I asked in a comment to another video of yours about the screen setup when using the vision calculator on Jake's website. I will have the screen at 100% when doing the measurements. Thanks for the video and have a nice weekend.

    • @GemilyMez
      @GemilyMez  4 года назад

      Yeah - I had the sticky tape the ruler. Because it prints on an A4 (or Letter) page, it comes in a few bits. If you get the measuring course + Le Rough Guide, it is all pre-prepared material, so it is always available. It is not one of the mentored courses like the "Back to 20/20" course that has limited places. I went for the $179 package because i really wanted access to the Pro Videos. It is true that accuracy is required, but the good thing is that our eyes are also very forgiving - if we get it wrong, we can always try again.

    Hey, Gemily, we were talking about floaters in last video. I was just thinking about it today morning. I have noticed a reduction (complete vanishing) of floaters after a day of fasting and nice sleep. For example, I had fasted yesterday and today I have zero floaters. Then, these floaters seem to build up over time gradually. 🤔 I don't know, I just noticed it and someone else can try it and see if it works for them also. I generally fast one day per every fortnite, that may have been one of the factors in curing floaters.

      If you have made a binocular reduction, and one eye suddenly sees better than the other, I would suspect that your dominant eye had adjusted to your previous norms, but that your non-dominant eye was still making adjustments. So you may have reduced a tiny bit too soon, but that's okay. Just make sure this time you wait for your non-dominant eye to catch up - the last thing you want to do is to leave it behind.

    • @GemilyMez
      @GemilyMez  4 года назад +1

      I think it is just that at -1 the blur is not so much that you are that affected in daily activities. Most people, when they first get glasses, aren't given -0.25 or -0.5 glasses - a lot of people's first prescription is around -1. Some people do keep using -0.5 and -0.25 normalised, and that is fine too. I guess a lot of people also hate wearing glasses and are excited to be able to get rid of them, so if you reach the point where you can get rid of them.... Even looking back at photos of the era when I first got glasses for myopia, I am not wearing my glasses consistantly - my first glasses were off as often as they were on. It was only my second pair, when the strength went up, when they are suddenly glued to my face. I think I will keep going with norms all the way back to -0.25, but I also imagine I won't have them glued to my face, and ultimately, I can't say for sure what I will do until I find out what I can actually see by that point! Already just getting to -1.75, I am so much more tempted to enjoy the world without glasses than before (but only when outside in full sun, when my vision is best).

    I've had horrendous double vision for 6 months to the point where the ground is rising upwards with and without glasses. Other than staring at contrasty text/distant objects and recognising the ghost image and going up in correction, what would you recommend? I went from a -1.75 normalised to -2 to fix the issue but it hasn't helped all that much.

    • @GemilyMez
      @GemilyMez  4 года назад +1

      Whoa! That sounds awful! I can't really tell what is happening for you, but I would wonder about your balance between your eyes - I get a bit dizzy and double vision-y when I am equalising. Or maybe your astigmatism correction vs. your spherical correction is off? Have you messed around with plus lenses at all? What was your full correction that you were wearing before you started EndMyopia?

    • @carminefalcone3069
      @carminefalcone3069 4 года назад

      The first correction I ever had was a -1.75 in both eyes which I used for two years with a quarter diopter of cylinder and then transitioned to a -2.75 which I also used for two years (same level of cylinder correction as before). The -2.75 did not account for ocular dominance so it was -3 for the left eye and -2.75 for the right. When discovering endmyopia, the only correction available for my normalised was my old 1.75s so I used that. That meant I started equalising with my first normalised glasses. That wasn't an issue however, as I didn't get double vision at all. I was also tested at another optometrist who said I didn't have any astigmatism whatsoever and Jake says there could be a half diopter margin of error when it comes to being prescribed for cylinder. So I don't think the double vision was caused by equalising or astigmatism as I never had DV during the first few months of endmyopia and I know it wasn't from plus lenses as I never used them.

    • @GemilyMez
      @GemilyMez  4 года назад +1

      To equalise and reduce cylinder at once, as well as it being a big jump... Seems to be a lot of explanation there for why your eyes are having trouble adjusting.

    • @GemilyMez
      @GemilyMez  3 года назад

      For the first reduction, just reduce sph. You can reduce some cyl later (like your second pair of differentials, and third pair of normalised would be good moment to get into the cyl if you want to). And as for axis - that is just the direction of your cyl. Reducing asix is only changing its direction, not reducing any sort of strength - you do can just leave the axis as it is. When your cyl gets to zero, your axis will go with it.

    How does thhis even possibly work on different screen sizes and different screen resolutions? You would need at least measure the width of the 'Focus' Text with youre measure tape and then you would need to give the correct measure of the text on the website so that you can zoom in or zoom out to calibrate the text. Even the example graphic with the red arrow is overall blurry, so got no clue if i should really get as close to the screen as i can see pixels. Because that is the sharpest. I got -3 out of this and my actual oversubscribed glasses have -0.75

    Is the endmyopia android app (dioptre calculator) accurate?

    • @GemilyMez
      @GemilyMez  3 года назад +1

      With Android it is hard to be sure because Android is built to be used across a wide range of hardware devices, and between different brands and models and device types, it is a bit of a challenge to make sure it works perfectly accurately on every possible type of device and hardware. This is a problem Apple does not have, as they control the hardware as well as the software for their devices. In the end, the Android app is great for taking measurements over time in order to track PROGRESS, as long as you keep using the same device all measurements should be accurate relative to each other. For measuring diopters in order to buy glasses, it would probably be worth double checking your Android results against the EndMyopia Calculator or a Snellen chart.

    I like this method, to this day I still have torublle measuring eob, it takes me about an hour to figure out where the blur starts and then my eyes get used to the thing im looking at and it becomes increasingly frustrating. i know i may be overthinking but i want it as accurate as possible especially if I am getting glasses. i am at -4.75 so I really try to make sure everything i do is accurate. is it necessesary to convert the eyes from the contact to glasses way.

    • @GemilyMez
      @GemilyMez  4 года назад

      If you are over -4 diopters, yeah, you ought to take into consideration vertex distance. Some people with myopia that is getting to a point where even being 1 cm out would change your correction, they measure while wearing differentials and then add on the diopters in the differential glasses. There is a good article about this on the wiki. I'll just see whether I can find it....

    • @GemilyMez
      @GemilyMez  4 года назад +1

      Couldn't spot it.... I am sure it is there some where. But basically, if you have differentials that are -2 diopters for example, put them on, measure your distance to blur, convert those CMS into diopters (e.g. say you get 1.75) then you add your diffs and your extra CMS to blur and get -3.75 as a full correction.
      Because this was measured WITH glasses on, this wouldn't need vertex distance consideration, I don't think. If you need more detail, I know NottNott did it this way.

    • @GemilyMez
      @GemilyMez  4 года назад

      Yeah, I only reduced 1.5. If you don't feel comfortable, that is a good indication.
      As for how long you can wear distance glasses for close up before it has an effect, that depends on how easily your ciliary muscle locks up! If your ciliary muscle locks up very easily, and amount of time with overcorrection for close up could mean your measurements are worse until you have released it again. If you mean with axial length, I can't recall, but there was a study on it. I think it was something like even just an hour had an impact. Good news was that it took less time to improve than to get worse.

    I am having trouble with getting my edge of blur distance. Actually I am confused.
    I went through the endmyopia calculator and found the red arrow pointing at FOCUS. But I am confused to which line it is pointing at . Is it pointing at the 2nd or 3rd line from the bottom ? I see it pointing at the middle of these lines. This is important because I want to know how edge of blur looks exactly
    Here's the link to the calculator for u to clear my doubt easily:

    • @GemilyMez
      @GemilyMez  2 года назад

      It is indeed pointing between the two. It is all approximate, so look for when the text starts to change from the clearer to the blurrier of those two lines. Somewhere in there. As long as you are consistent in what you are looking for, you will be able to monitor your progress.

      Mine does that as well...but lots of people don’t seem to have that option. I think, in the US, you even need a Dr. prescription, to buy a pair of glasses (unless it’s from an online shop) or something? I definitely plan to periodically check my measurements there as well. They don’t seem to have overprescribed me in the past, so I plan to keep buying my ‚work glasses‘ (aka the ‚nice‘ ones) there anyway. Or have the actual glass part replaced anyway. I really like these particular frames and my online ones aren’t nearly as flattering (if way cheaper).

    • @GemilyMez
      @GemilyMez  4 года назад +1

      That is amazing that you have a optometrist who will do that for free. Most optometrists who check your eyes for free are really depending on your buying glasses afterwards so they get paid. Have you used this optometrist before? If you haven't, be aware there may be some pressure to buy glasses before you leave if their eye checks are free. I would still recommend measuring your eyes yourself, as optometrists are taught to give you the very best correction possible (and then a little bit extra just to make sure). It is very easy to end up getting measurements from an optometrist that are actually stronger than you need.
