WARUGA - Megalithic Graveyard at Woloan Amphitheater Tomohon, North Sulawesi, Indonesia.
The Woloan Amphitheater was built by the Tomohon city government in 2006. At the Woloan Amphitheater, a number of old stone graves belonging to the ancestors of the Minahasa tribe were placed, which were originally scattered in residential areas. The stone graves are known as waruga. The shape of the waruga as a grave, not elongated like a coffin in general. Due to the position of the corpse in a sitting position with the knees in front of the chest so that the shape of a tall waruga with a lid on the top.
On the waruga, the name of the owner of the waruga is carved, for example from the ancestors of the Maweikere family, Kojongian family, etc.
This large amphitheater tribune can accommodate up to 3000 people, which is used as a means of cultural development through traditional ceremonies or city events. The traditional ceremony is a special ritual to honor the waruga.
In the amphitheater area there is a library, the Masarang Foundation office which manages this cultural site, and there is an open hall that guests can rent for various events.
