Gojira is Gojira. Like Opeth. They're just who they are. That's the genre. Gojira.
#nolabels #ifulikeitulikeit
Unfortunately, their uniqueness can put them into progressive, technical, or avant garde.
Gojira sounds like gojira, if you hear that sound anywhere else you know where they got it from.
Thats a good way to descripe progressive Metal
This is a fine message.
Great live band, give us more GOJIRA
yea we heard they were amazing live
@@Hollywood6IX They definitely are one of the best modern metal bands I've encountered, and I'm a hard to please Tool nerd.
Gojira fuckin jams. I'm not fond of alot of the newer metal bands. Gojira is one of my favorite metal bands of the.newer generation. All their shit ROCKS
Hey would love to see you guys react to the trilogy done by Falling in Reverse!
One of the best bands I’ve seen live EVER!!!
React to “The Heaviest Matter of the Universe” and tell us if you consider it Metal!!
Also some of the best drums you'll hear
Yep definitely heaviest matter. Not sure if you should do the live version first though. Maybe studio track first it’s amazing
Yes please :D
I would go for ''from the sky live at Bordeaux 2009'' insane stamina from Mario !!!
Nah, it’s pop.
Gojira is amazing. Mario Duplantier is one of the best drummers in the game right now. They started off as melodic death metal but are now considered progressive metal. They do have a lot of groove though.
One of the best in the world in my opinion
Guys, the Gojira rabbit-hole IS the prize. You guys are really going to enjoy this ride!
I had tickets to see Deftones, Gojira, and Poppy...and I was so thrilled with the lineup because I love all three. But Mario (the drummer) is a fucking beast.
I had tickets to that tour too :( fucking corona
Poppy and Gojira on the same bill... damn that would've been crazy x) Hopefully they'll reschedule it?
I too had those tickets....sad
Me too. Saw gojira in Canada last year, was so excited to see them again but sadly it didn't happen
I have tickets as well, tour has been postponed to 2021
We've been missing out? You haven't even listened to The Art of Dying by Gojira yet....
Or flying whales. These guys have no idea what they're not hearing yet.
the gift of guilt has been one of my favourite songs ever since I heard the live
Soooooo many great songs from this amazing band ....wisdom comes !
I don't think they're ready for Art of Dying juuust yet
@@sneaky2714 it's a really good introduction yeah, I do feel like flying whales is easier to get into and shows a broader view of their style though
Was wondering when you guys would come across Gojira. They're insanely heavy, but they also have beautiful melody and the riffs in their songs are Iommi levels of perfect.
Must do Flying Whales. It’s the song that got me into Gojira many years ago.
Agreed
Same bro, great track
Oh wow . Same
So fucking happy you guys enjoyed my request! Thank you for following through! 🤘🏻 check out the lyrics to really understand GOJIRA 😁
Gojira is our French Metal Pride ! :)
And Mario, the drummer, is one of the absolute best drummers of our generation.
Also, check Skalmold - Kvadning (live).
This band is on another level! Was fortunate enough to see them at “Aftershock” last year before “TOOL”! Their set was ridiculous! It sucks that they postponed the tour until 2021 with “Deftones” but it’ll be well worth it when they release their new album! And yes, they sound better live!
Please react to them performing “The Axe”!
Salute, gents!
Yesss, finally Gojira! Please do more from them, they’re amazing. Gojira, Opeth and Tool are my absolute favorite bands of all time, so really happy you now have reacted to all of them! Keep it going
Nice to see that you've liked! Gojira is more death metal than groove metal (closer to Jinjer than to Pantera), but whatever, it's great either way
Don't miss "The Heaviest Matter of the Universe" and "Flying Whales"!!
The Art of Dying. My personal favorite from Gojira, ride it!
They are a French band... Mario the drummer is widely considered to be up there with Danny Carey as one of the best
Also, the Clash has a great song called Guns of Brixton 😊😆
the good drummers tend to switch it up bc theyre always aware of the beat and can always find it later even with all these crazy time signatures and off beats, I feel like the bass player is the one providing the beat for gojira while the drummer is doing his thing. mastodons drummer always sounds a bit different bc he loves to fill whenever he can which for the sake of a cleaner sound you cant really do for the album version
I gotta say... You two are my favorite reactors😍 GOJIRA is amazing band in so lucky to have seen them live 2019!🤘🔥these guys CARE about Nature!
With them being used to rap I love their fascination with the guitar and how they don't know what's tapping is, I think it's awesome they are showing interest in different genres. Keep up the good content guys.
Gojira are, in short, French environmentalist progressive metal, and super badass. The playing on the neck is called tapping, you're tapping the string to a fret which makes a note, and then the release vibrates the string again at the lower note that's held further down the neck, and going back and forth. Most metal bands don't improvise that much, but a lot of bands may end up playing a song differently live than they did in the studio.
Gojira is a heavy metal riff machine!! Their drummer may just be the best metal drummer in the game right now. They have a bunch of killer songs but I would say that “Flying Whales” or “The Heaviest Matter of the Universe”. Great reaction guys!
I love your guys’ reactions to metal! I also like your love and appreciation for talent in great bands such as this.
Gojira! Known as 'groove-core' for a reason, you can't help but headbang.
This band is a steamroller live! I recommend Toxic Garbage Island live!
There is a song by Lee McKinney called “a clock without a craftsman” that would make an awesome rap best. Very melodic metal guitar with drums and a saxophone. Super dope. Y’all should check it out. Love the reactions!
Saw these guys in August 2019. They were amazing live. I knew of them and heard some songs but after seeing them they made a fan out of me. Super talented band
My theory of this track song structure wise, is in the beginning it’s calm and innocent with the, as you amazingly described it, “hypnotizing” riff. It’s almost like that riff represents your innocence as a child, and then the heaviness comes in which could be the guilt that comes when you get older. You carry this heaviness until one day, as they said in the last lyric, “I’m leaving this behind, the gift of guilt” and then it goes back to the hypnotic guitar riff which in my opinion, represents the peace and tranquility you feel when you leave behind the guilt. These guys can straight up tell stories and portray complex life problems in the song structure of a five minute song. Masters here, love you boys
I was on the fence about gojira. Had only heard a few songs at the time and just wasn't going out of my way to get into them. Then they were at Knotfest and I watched them live....and boy was I missing out. Wonderful band.
Good work boys ! Welcome to the Gojira Army. Progressive metal is what I call it.
They are from France. It means Godzilla in Japanese. The drummer and singer/guitar are brothers. Please do some more :)
Wow, thanks! Welcome in their world! Very sweet first hearing of the band. You can review their whole playlist, there won't be any bad suggestions! Mine would start with some of their oldest stuff, Gojira- Remembrance at Hellfest 2006
Damn the door of Gojira you've guys have just opened woooo!! theres no turning back now.
The playing on the neck of the guitar as you said is a technique called tapping where both hands are played on the neck instead of the standard one hand fretting and the other picking.
Gojira is one of the best bands ever. You definitely need to check out more of their stuff!!
No matter how many times I listen to this song, I always get chills and a huge smile at that opening riff! It's such an amazing song!
Y'all. Love how open minded you guys are. MORE GOJIRA!!!!!!
I just started watching you guys a few days ago and have been loving your content - thanks for sharing with us. So imagine my joy at seeing you've covered one of my favourite bands! Man I love watching a first time Gojira reaction (especially when Mario starts going off).
I haven't figured out yet if you like the heavier stuff more or more progressive/melodic, but generally Gojira's first albums are their heaviest and they get more melodic over time, so I hope that helps you figure out which tracks to check out. For what it's worth, my personal faves are From the Sky, Indians, Art of Dying, Pain is a Master, Mouth of Kala, and Wolf Down the Earth. Hope to see more soon!
I wish I could hear that performance for the first time again. But great reliving it with you two.
You just witnessed the best live metal band in the world. They're unique , there style , the musicianship ,they're just different and unique , so many great songs ,from there younger days more death metal ( remembrance ,clone ,wisdom comes, embrace the world ) to death metal /prog ( the heaviest matter of the universe ,flying whales , from the sky ,esoteric surgery, the art of dying ..the list goes on ) to now ,as they're a bit older ,they explore more atmospheric mood while keeping it heavy ( check out the recent "pray "live at red rocks ,or silvera ,things like that . great reaction guys :)
Great video. Gojira are absolutely incredible. My favorite Gojira riff comes from a song called "L'enfant Sauvage" (which is French for "The Wild Child", fun fact - Gojira is a band from France), you should react to that song too!
Also yeah their drummer (Mario Duplantier) is an absolute f***ing animal, one of my favorite drummers. His brother Joseph is the lead vocalist, btw.
This was hands down the best Gojira reaction video and I've been watching them for an hour.
The bands play as close to the studio recording as possible while adding ad-libs in their guitar solos or drum fills. Or at the end of the encore song they would intensify and lengthen the breakdown for the last circle pit mosh before the end of the show.
Ruh-roh.. You found Gojira.
I haven't seen Gojira live but most concerts I've been too the bands will have songs they can improvise on. Usually the intro, ending, or solos. Most are rehearsed and for the tour though.
Seen Boston live, they added like 10 extra solos to every song.
Gojira is absolutely groove metal man, with technical death thrown in there. When they're in the pocket there's no groovier band
I'm excited for yall...you just opened the door on what I would call the most original and unique metal band to come out in the past 15 years. Give "Flying Whales", "The Heaviest Matter in the Universe" or "Stranded" a shot next. Great stuff
For me, Gojira and Jinjer are the two bands that make Metal exciting again. I was stuck with old bands and eventually went into other genres because most 2k+ and especially 2k10+ bands just never really did it for me, which was sad since it was still my favorite music genre.
Check out some more: le ́efant sauvage, silvera and flying whales.
I love u guys and how open you both are open to music in a whole. Im a tool fan like u both are and watching u fall in love with em like i did sends chills to my soul. I suggest swinging the dead by devil driver
these guys are gods. and they are so amazingly tight live.
Great song! Now guys you need to listen to King Diamond - sleepless night, live at the fillmore. Metal leyend with a very unique style.
Also great tunes from gojira: vacuity, stranded, this emptiness.
Flying whales and the gift of guilt, my two favorite Gojira songs. They are art.
It's cool that you guys got to Gojira. Another one of my favorite bands.
I'm gonna add to the crowd and say:
Do 'Flying Whales' next
You guys definitely need dive more into Gojira. I would love to see you guys react to flying whales or where Dragons dwell live. So happy you got to this band and cant wait to see more from you two🖤🤘
One of the best drummers in the business
Must see Gojira live performances:
Global Warming live at the Silver Cord Studio 2018 (must read the video description first)
Where Dragons Dwell live at Hellfest 2013 (their presence here and how it is transfered to the crowd is amazing)
man this french band is something else !good review too!
Gojira - The Art of Dying
This, the live version though.
Drummer is “Super” Mario Duplantier. One of the best technical drummers you’ll find. Cant really go wrong with Gojira, live or studio, they are supremely talented. Great reaction gents
Gojira is a technical death metal band. They were groove in the beginning if i remember.
Also if you guys like those sounds they do on that breakdown, listen to Stranded, got a fucking sick intro
More Gojira!! Please react to any of their songs from their live performance at Pol’And’Rock Festival!
Hearing you guys talking about rapping over Metal reminded me of a Hip Hop artist I heard of a few years back. He rapped over dubstep when that was blowing up. If you're curious check out Forest Punk - I am a Mutant or Bumrush . Everyone slept on him. I don't think he's even making music now. I think it's a taste of greatness.
Love the vid guys - when the drums hit 🙌🏼🤪
Damn never thought I'd see you react to Gojira! My all time favorite band with TOOL being a close second.
Please do "Flying Whales" ASAP!
My gods, you have so much amazing Gojira to listen to. Please react to some more. :)
Strongly recommend Gojira, The Art Of Dying live at Vieilles Charrues Festival.
As far as live v studio, in my experience a lot of bands will change certain elements, such as extending/shortening an intro, adding unique vocal sections and playing about with the song in general...sometimes even going acoustic.
However they never really alter the overall sound or lyrical style too much as it runs the risk of disappointing their audience.
Minor changes are cool as it makes that particular experience unique, but the song still needs to be the song, if that makes sense.
Oh shit I forgot about how amazing Gojira is, my fav track by them Ourobouros its sooo good, followed by Le Enfant Savage. If you looking for a more flavors, japan is a trove full of AMAZING stuff. Unlucky Morpheus - Angrefier (live) or Anthem - Bound To Break.
Regarding live performance, you do follow the tempo per se but you get to improvise along the way, mostly the guitar solos live tend to have more "spitballing" (do whatever just stay on the same duration to not screw up the flow) especially when you been on the road for a while with songs, but if you are on a tour promoting a new album or such most likely you will stick with the script for the new stuff.
Thats also why when bands practice for a concert tend to jam together a lot to see how far then can push a song or sound and even improve on it later on.

Most people dont listen to these older tracks. They're GOLD. The vocals were alott heavier back then, im not sure why he stopped mixing in death metal vocals
Clone
Gojira - Where Dragons Dwell (live at hell fest 2013) is a must watch!
If you want to see more of the drummer's skills (one of the best in metal for sure) you should check out Heaviest Matter Of The Universe and/or The Art Of Dying Live at Vieilles Charrues Festival 2010
A really insane song that has been really making it big lately is Demolisher, by Slaughter to Prevail. There is a nice surprise for you in that song too with the vocals. I predict your reaction will be priceless!
Gojira the cell from po'land rock. INSANE!!
As far as how songs are played, it depends, Mario (gojira's drummer) usually follows through with what he plays on record, Gavin Harrison (drummer for quite a lot of bands) follows the general way he played on record but he adds bits and pieces that aren't on the cd track that are extremely cool and then you have guys like Matt Gartska (animals as leaders) who just plays almost however he feels like and the craziest part is that no matter how he plays, he always is able to keep the time and the guitarists follow through whatever he plays. So it really depends on which bands but generally, they play closr to the original and maybe change a few things here and there
That guitar playing technique you guys noticed is called finger tapping. It's hard af and takes practice. Gojira has some amazing finger tapping progressions. That 'whhaaaaahhhwww' sound you thought was sick is a slide, Gojira is known for nasty slides.
Gojira!!! Yeah guys!! Do some more please :D you're great
You should watch "Pray" extended version at Red Rocks, a mystical experience...
Sorry also suggesting Vision Of Disorder. Check out “By the River” which also features Phil from Pantera. This group has a serious rap vibe with the way they put some sounds together too.
Great band. Lead singer and drummer are brothers
My suggestion is that you should do a section where you reccommend rap songs to us metalheads :))
You HAVE to check out The Art of Dying. In my opinion their greatest track and one of the greatest metal songs I've ever heard. Could check out the live version in Versailles just to see how insane their drummer really is.
great you found gojira :)
cant wait till you find out there is a king gizzard and the lizard wizard too
I seen them live in Portland. They fucking murdered man. Worth every penny. They turned my little brother into a metalhead after that concert haha
ty for all new music
It's so obvious towards the end the lyrics started to resonate, at least a little. The big "gift of guilt" scream/yell got you. You stopped keeping rhythm and looked like you just read an obituary. Gdamn I love this band.
Gojira is really a good band
If you guys are hearing the on-key growls, you might be ready for Slaughter to Prevail. Check this out: ruclips.net/video/79ojlwMzs0Q/видео.html
"Go!" Mario goes...into overdrive while thinking "Hmmm wonder what I should have for supper?"
One of my housemates was a French Muslim guy of Moroccan descent. Gojira was his favourite band.
Yes you totally have been missing out, Gojira are amazing. So many good tunes “Flying Whales” , “Oroberus” , “Stranded”, “Toxic Garbage Island”
Huge Gojira fan here, I definitely recommend you guys to listen Toxic Garbage Island!
Please please pleeeeease, do the studio version of Flying Whales 😂 🤘🔥
Ya guyz reacted to Gojira. Abd you felt it. You earned a new subscriber then. ;) Much luv from France.
One more great discovery that you did.
The video is an hour and a bit long, but you should check their opening at PolandRock 2018, and then stop reaction where you want. The crowd is amazing, the quality of the audio unbelievable, and of course... the music
This sound is just beautiful. Amazing reaction seams music is a religion. Meditate.
You really can't label Gojira as on type of genre. They have elements of old school thrash, death, prog, and groove. They are one of those special bands that have their own sound that you instantly know who it is when a song comes on. And yes Mario is one of the dopest drummers alive.
The drummer mario Duplantier (brother of the singer, Joe) is one of the top3 drummer in the world.
They are french, which is not that common in the metal world, and produce some of the purest sounds live. You can also see that on every be video of them, you will have 99.99% positive comments, and thumbs up.
You could check Stranded, perfect for the current situation, or "l'enfant sauvage", or flying whales, live.
But the drummer is more precise than a goddam clock.
Nice reaction once more guys !
Archspire - Involuntary Doppelgänger
Ulcerate - Inversion, There is No Horizon
Septicflesh - Persepolis, Anubis, Pyramid God
Be'lakor - Grasping Light (official lyric video), Abeyance, The Smoke of Many Fires
Wilderun - The Tyranny of Imagination (official lyric video)
Opeth - The Grand Conjuration, Master's Apprentices,
Edit: I dropped a couple tabs and listened to the whole album this Gojira track is off of. L'enfant Sauvage. Changed my life
Nice reaction! On the matter of Metal shows, they tend to go a little faster than on the studio recording, but they are on spot, even when faster than intended :)
Now check out Ne Obliviscaris - and plague flowers the kaleidoscope
Thanks in advance :)
Cheers from germany!
Edit: corrected some typos!
not related to this in any way but was just listening to one of Blue October songs and thought dropping a suggestion to listen to something from them.... maybe “Any man in America”, “An Angel” or “Hate me” or maybe something else
Thanks by french fan
I consider this the Gojira genre.
Try Gojira - The Heaviest Matter in the Universe. Great reactions!!!
