Another great tutorial Ted! I think this was a great lesson on how to ‘move material’. There is an ugly stage like any other piece of art, but it’s about moving around material from large bits to small and after many steps you’ll get your desired effect.

Extremely helpful. I was debating about using foam or worbla for my next armor set, but the awesome battle damage effect you've achieved has convinced me that foam is the way to go.

Regarding your store, for some reason the neck armor pattern and the helmet/elbow/shoulder patterns have buttons underneath them that take you to the checkout page, rather than "add to cart" buttons. I was still able to add the neck pattern via the actual page for it, but it took me a moment to realize that was an option. At first I thought it was because I'd bought it before, since I *have* gotten the helmet/elbow/shoulder patterns, but I have no record of having bought the neck one.
Just thought you might want to know so people don't end up confused and can do a quick add from the main store page. :)

Which of the Creature Cast did you use? rigid, semi-rigid, flexible, or super-flex?

Hi there! Wondering if the seams that I do not want to come apart will also open if I cut fine lines across them and then heat. I'm trying to cut detail lines across the entire female chest armor so some will intersect at the cup seams. Any suggestion? Btw the tutorials are very easy to follow. Thank you. Making a Wonder Woman costume for my daughter.
Not if you let the glue dry before heating it. I'm glad that my video is helping your build costumes for your daughter.

I've got a quick question for you if you have the time. A friend gave me two eva yoga mats, but the have a bumpy texture on both sides. Any suggestions on how to still use them? Should I cover them with a thinner sheet of eva?
Evil Ted Smith I really love your foam work. I want to make my own cosplay costume for my first time cosplaying, but there are tools I don't have access to. For example, the sanding drum. Is there an alternate tool to use that would do similar work as the sanding drum?

is there a video where you do an entire piece using plastidip instead of latex or that creature liquid? only because plastidip is cheaper for me, but am i giving up quality?

Curious how to attach a pauldron without a chest plate. I saw you have it set up like that at the end of this video. I've got a costume that calls for simple shoulder guards and a brigandine, so I can't attach the guards to a solid plate like your male body armor tutorial.
I ended up putting a strap on that ran across my chest around to the back with a faster.
Evil Ted Smith thank you! That's pretty much what I had before, but with elestic webbing instead of a strap and fastner. I've bought a pint of Creature Cast on your recommendation, and can't wait to try it on the helm I'm making.
Hey Ted, Instead of a "Wood Burner" can I use a Soldering Iron?
I was think the same thing and yes you can just keep in mind that a Woodburner has optional changeable heads for diff styles and cuts but the Iron should work in a pinch for just straight line cuts.
Yeah it would work. The wood burner just get better detail.
What would you say are the major pros & cons of using the propane torch vs a heat gun for heat sealing?
The only real difference is the torch is faster. The heat gun is just as good. Stick with the heat gun.
I was wondering how you go about making the spikes flush with the armor? I watched you other video on seams and still can figure out how to properly apply that to spikes. My thought is to make an indentation cut for the spike to rest in then fill around it with kwik seal, would that work or is there an easier way?

Hey ted, I want to make a stormtrooper costume and for the chest piece, it sort slants down half way, do you think it would be necessary for me to make the main part of the chest piece then use another piece of foam for the higher part of the chest piece that slants down since I don't have a rotary tool?

I figure it may need to be pretty reinforced to keep from cracking.
No! I am not a fan about putting hard resin on soft foam. My question is…Why?

fantastic video :D i have a question, im trying to build a helmet. its a bit like a roman style helmet without the fuzzy thing that sticks out the top but it still has the channel looking part that holds the brush thing. (im full of all the technnical terms :P) but i cant seem to figure out how to get the channel to follow the curve of the helmet without having weird creases in the foam where it bends round the curve or gaping holes where the channels curve is larger than the helmets (i so hope ur able to figure out what im meaning) help me PLEASE :) ty in advance

Cut out the design like @4:50 in the video. push it through, and that will allow it to retain the shape without bulges. I hope that makes sense. x.x'
are EVA and closed-cell-foam the same thing? can both be manipulated with tools/technique like in this video?

Foams in different countries are almost the same thing. Use what you can get you hands on. Ask local Cosplayers what they use to make their costumes.

Which rigidity for which use cases? I see you have semi-rigid in this video, is that a go-to, or do you use more flexible ones in different situations?
I like the idea of this and want to try it myself with some predefined templates and such but i live in Sweden so the things you use either dont exist or dont have the same name so i find it hard to find certain things, ive managed to find the EVA-Foam which in Sweden is basically Yoga-mats here :P Glue i have no idea what type i need :D and i need this to be as cheap as possible :P
Search for contact cement. That is the type of glue that Barge is.
EU resident here. Try looking for solvent-based professional leatherworker rubber cement. Most of the time this solvent is toluene which is highly toxic and kept out of reach of the general public. Some brands you can find in the EU are Drop Plus, Bostick PCP 45 or Transprene 5W. The cemented parts tend to be ready to assemble in 10-15mn instead of 5mn for the genuine Barge cement. The sad truth being for the glue to work best, it has to be highly toxic. Wear a mask.

+Darkburrow 40ml won't get you far an you usually pay way more in 'hobby' stores than in pro supplies stores. I had trouble googling online shops in sweden to help you find the better glues but that may just mean their Search Engine Optimization is only in swedish or that the pro stores don't have an online shop. It's not like there's no leatherworker in Sweden. They just get their supplies via traditional distributors. My best advice : go find a shoe maker or an orthopedist and ask him where he buys his stuff and/or if he can sell you some under the counter. The orthopedist will also have access to good foam for making custom shoe soles.

Ted, can I ask you how you decided to do the recess cutting on the already rounded armor piece rather than doing it before on the flat piece?
If you do the recess cut before you heat shape. You'll find once you start bending it all your recess seams will pop open.
Thats why I like to do it after it has been heat shaped.
How did you make the piece that's next to the shoulder piece, closer to your neck?
