- In today's video, I show you how my lawns are looking now that we are in mid-March.
Not every lawn looks amazing, but the rye grass lawns at the front are doing absolutely amazing! - Хобби
i would suggest that you use some shade tolerant grass seed for the upper lawn, due to it's so long in a shady area.
had the same issue here, and then used for this area Poa Supina, now its thick and slushy all the year 😊
I manage so many garden's with mossy grass and i really want to do more lawn care for them .. definitely something im going to learn more about 👌
Mate your front lawns are looking phenomenal. I love this channel, and how real you are with your expressions, the ones that crack me up all the time is “it’s not gonna kill you” it’s only a weed etc 😂😂. That’s as real as it gets no bs. Keep up the great work, and look forward to your next episode 💯👌🏻
🤣 nice one!
Solid advice 😊
My biggest problem this year are worm casts on the back lawn, front lawn not so much
That's front lawns looks amazing mate for this time of the year, can't wait to get the full lawn renovation going, great video
Cheers 👍🏻
Where I can find you putting that edging in around the lawn please?
I have fescue grass and have experienced the same die back as you due to water logging, mainly around lawn edges. Poa already around in frightening numbers and getting leatherjacket damage bad. We commence yet another battle against nature, i love this hobby 😂
That’s exactly what I’m like now. The lawn looks awful, but I’m ready to get it back!
@@NoviceGardener hollow core aerated last year, 90 sq m and filled with 70/30 sand loam. I am on clay but even so I have never known the lawn to be this bad, it’s like walking on gravy! Surprised leatherjackets have survived given how soaked the ground is. I am just south of Birmingham and I feel for those who have had far more rain than we have here
Really love the videos mate. Think it’s an age thing as I’ve really got the bug for lawn care! Scarified the lawn last week and removed 6 tone bags full of thatch and moss! Gave it a treatment on Mo bakter. Waiting for abit warmer weather to do the overseed! Know how you feel with that garden faulk. My hands were covered in blisters!
Nice one!
That’s it, once you get the bug, it’s an obsession!
"Didn't really do a whole lot" !!! That aerating was a big job !!
My hands are currently paying for it 😅
My lawn is about 150sqm and it took me about a week to hollow core aerate it haha
🤣
Great video. The front looks amazing! Light and air does a lot!
If you have concerns with drainage have you considered using a tiller to really get that clay broken down and space for the water to go. You could perhaps still leave a path to the top which’ll be nice and solid to walk over. Kill 2 birds with 1 stone next year? Just a thought I’m throwing out🤔
I’ve thought about a path, splitting the lawn in two wouldn’t be too big a task. Plus, last year we walked across the lawn too much and it looked a bit rough at times!
😂😂 i knew u was gonna get blisters ,i done a lawn triple the size my feet ,knees elbows and hands were sore for weeks , now i poke hole by lifting up fork and with force poke it downwards into tge lawn , it still causes blisters but feet knees and elbows are saved , wish i had money and space for a machine aerator ,save so much time and does a better job as you also want to remove some of the compact soil plugs out the lawn for more air, p.s that grass verge is looking 😍 if i was you id trim back that prickly bush on the verge so you can get down further onnthe lawn plus saves you getting scratches too
It’s going to be my excuse to do nothing tomorrow! 😅
Good idea about the bush beside the grass verge. I might sort this over Easter 👍🏻
Have you ever done a core depth of your garden? My concern would be doing all that work with the garden fork and never getting through the clay bed to allow the water a chance to drain away
I haven’t, but the clay is about 3 inches below
Enjoy your videos and you're doing a great job. But wow these new builds, the mortar stains all over your brickwork is shocking and that rear "garden" well.... Think you'll always have issues here as you're just going to get the drain off from the properties behind. Assume those white marks on the wall is the water weeping though? I mean that wall and fence must be 12-15 feet high?? That's insane.
7:17 is that your neighbours garden or some sort of communal garden? :) Looking forward to seeing the end results of this lawn!
Yep 👍🏻
Going to do a full renovation next month. Hoping all goes well 🤞
Can I ask what make and model your lawnmower is?
Great job on the videos. 👍🏻
It’s a hayter hawk 37. Bloody great mower, but it’s a little pricey. I have the same model and, its gotta be one of my best buys
I agree! Expensive, but brilliant 👍🏻
My lawn ,looks same,no sunlight,boggy,you did the best thing aerate,put a 9 7 7 feed on.
Put a high fescue seed on.
Looking to get some fescue in the next few weeks
Your right to be cautious of coring th lawn, especially how shaded the rear garden is. Up here we have an old saying "never cast yir cloot 'til May is oot" basically means keep your vest on until May has past as there is still a risk of frost.
That’s very true!
It's coming along well. It's tough working out whether to scarify now and have a complete mudbath or leave it for another two months. So far I've put topsoil and seed onto the parts that flooded as they need building up in height and pretty much left the rest.
Awaiting your next video! Take care!
Once the temps rise in the next month, it will be favourable for seed. Hope your renovation goes well 🙏
Yeah. Will probably get one or two frosts and then it's all go
@@NoviceGardener
Have a look at the grass people Restore: Self repair lawn, similar to bent grass but without the high maintenance, has a new Zurich creeping ryegrass which will creep and fill in the gaps like a bent grass
I'll look into it, cheers 👍🏻
What’s the best product for killing clover and creeping buttercups without killing the grass
I’ve used resolva before. As long as it says ‘kills weeds, not lawns’ you’re good. But be careful. You can’t over seed for a while after applying it.
Why don’t you lose that bush from the front lawn?…..it adds nothing to the situation,
I actually like that round bush on the front lawn ,id trim the prickly bush on the grass verge and red robin in the back becuase they grow mental if left alone
Nah it's nice just wants a trim and edge
Or perhaps u don't stop cutting it. It shouldnt be that short in winter on new soil and turf. There's a big differance in 20 year old establised lawn with roots 9 inch long and what you have. 2 inch tops
It's Spring?!. As long as it's not too short during freezing conditions keep cutting it and if possible verticutt. It will encourage growth and keep weeds down especially poa.I suspect the ground isn't great for growing but maybe just need to experiment with different seed. Looks like it's getting water logged too.
@morris-or9iz let's all bang it down to 1mm in that case. Great advice cheers
Sacrilege!, there’s no way I’d be able to stop myself over Winter, don’t care, we’ve got two acres of mature gardens that we’ve been nurturing for 43 years, neighbours think I’m crazy when I go out at end of autumn with a build base bag and start collecting leaves for mulch, power to the mowers, we’ll have our uprising soon!.
Two inch tops!, that’s what all the girls say, hurrah.
I mean, it's "nice" but not a garden imo. Why mot grow food there?
