Duh How is it the rest of the world has laws and consequences for breaking them? You guys gave up. I lived 60 years in California, most of it in the Bay Area. It was never like this. How the hell did y'all let this happen?

If the intruder refuses to leave or even worse decides to assault you or a family member or even a friend, you are well within your rights to defend yourself and your property. There is always some inherent risk when you decide to commit a crime. If the criminals fail to do a proper risk assessment well then that’s on them and it’s part of the cost of doing business. If you can’t tell the difference between going over the speed limit and invading someone’s home, well then good luck navigating life.

Some suggestions to help keep them out of your garage, but it’s sad that you have to do any of these…
- Install a plate or L-bracket at the top center of the garage door so that they cannot pry the door away from the frame with a wedge or crowbar in order to insert a wire hook and trip the release
- Install a zip tie in the holes in the release bracket so that it cannot be easily released from the outside but can be opened from inside with a hard yank
- remove the red release handle so that they can’t hook the release from outside
- Avoid having windows (lights) in the garage door. They can easily break them to reach the release or can easily see the release from the outside as they fish for the release
- Put a bolt or lock in the door channel to prevent the door from being raised. It can be easily removed to raise the door.
- Put an alarm sensor on the door, tied into your house burglar alarm system, or put a loud alarm on just the door
- Get a big, loud dog and let him sleep in the garage at night. The bigger and louder the better!
- Install a video surveillance system or Ring-type camera doorbells to alert you
- Keep the door from the garage into the house locked from the inside, preferably with a dead bolt.

Yeah that's the attitude in SF, to the point where people coming from New York, Boston, Chicago, or even Detroit are shocked at the level of crime and get criticized for being shocked by it. It's not a normal level of crime for a city when my friend who grew up in the Bronx and myself are told we need to "calm down" after we went after the crook after her car was damaged in a break in attempt right in front of us.
SF truly is (or at least was) one of the world's most beautiful cities, in no small part because of its architecture. It would be a huge shame if it had to be as walled and gated and iron-barred as a city in South Africa, but that seems to be the direction it's headed, voluntarily, through the political will of the people who live there.

A Ring doorbell will alert you via cellphone, so you can tell the criminal to get lost.
However, that same system can be tweaked to allow you to hit another button and spray them with the blue dye. Whatever dye you choose.

What I'm learning from KPIX's youtube channel is that SF and Oakland are now pretty awful places to live. And... That you get what you vote for.
Why I've learned about comments like yours, people who post comments like you are not from Oakland and San Francisco. These crimes are a very small fraction of the overall experience of living in those cities. In a red state you're more likely to be living next door to a child predator than to be a victim of a crime in Oakland and San Francisco.

Over the last 50+ years I’ve been watching the Bay Area gradually become an ever worse place to live with the insane cost of living, stupid high taxes, a homeless infestation that’s constantly getting worse, and crime that is skyrocketing.

I’m not surprised that this is happening in Pacific Heights since it’s one of the richest district in SF. Pretty soon it will spread to other districts like Sunset and Richmond where I had lived for 30+ years.

I remember getting rocked on at gunpoint in the city good thing is I carry nothing, but the police actually drove by, stopped told us to break it up like we were all criminals and my more vocal friend who was also robbed and was a victim was later taken to jail.
And of course they didn't file any paperwork for this.

To combat this - a tough district attorney and laws that severely punish criminals are needed. California has neither and until that changes this behavior will continue. I love watching these video's, the man here was actually 'laughing' abut his door being busted open. Insane!

This is true, its getting so bad, my moms friend had her door knob yanked out somehow and a bunch of hooligans tried to raid their house but luckily a 2nd lock kept that from happening. As if breaking into cars wasn't enough now they're after our homes.
