Dear Lord it's like you were reading my mind! I was watching through a bunch of your videos trying to figure out how to do this on a project I'm starting. You're so awesome!
Just want to say: Thanks so much for doing these videos! I often have these playing in the background as I work on my own projects. Your channel is one of the best out there for model building and painting.
I'm curious your thoughts on the new Vallejo "Metal Color" range? How do they stack up compared to the Model Air metallics? I'm planning a mostly metallic army and wondering if I should check them out.
If we're going for a heavily rust covered armor what would you recommend doing for the base layer? I'm working on a skeleton warrior miniature, and I wanted to give it that extremely old and rusted out armor look
Hi doctor, i try to replicate your steel color scheme for dark elves, and i think to try the new vallejo metal color range, but MC Steel is to dark compared to VMA Steel, you have any equivalent ? . VMA Gun Grey - MC Gunmetal Grey (to dark?) VMA Steel - MC ??? VMA Chrome - MC Chrome thanks ^^ .
Hey there, Doctor Faust! I need some advice: I'm thinking of buying the imperial space marine on the 16th of April, but if I buy it, I won't have any money until my pay check comes in next month; help!
+Finley Clark Don't, you don't know if there will be an emergency between pay checks. Save the money and buy it when the next check arrives so you have a safety net.
Love it! I especially love the grayish skin!! No more neon green!!

Love the Rust effects, been enjoying your channel for years!!
Effective method for tarnished metal as well. Thanks
Fantastic channel... Awesome looking Orc....
I tried doing stuff like this, but then I found Vallejo's mecha line. They have several rust effects that look spot on.
subtle and gives the miniatures that older worn look. Not so much rusty as much as... well loved ;)
Very nice. Perfect timing I just got dungeon saga. Lots of rust :). Appreciate your clinics.
True, that blade did dominate the frame a bit but I was rather focused on the skin tones of that Ork or whatever it is.
Nice work and great advice.
Awesome vid. Looks great!
Where do you get those bases? I like the chamfered look.
Privateer Press or Wyrd. Several other games use the same style.
niiiice, love the shading on the flesh btw :D
Nice tutorial! Have you considered using a very matt varnish to stipple on the rusted areas? Rust being not shiny at all ...
+miezpiez The entire model is matt varnished.
Haha, well in that case: completely pointless suggestion by me ;-)
+miezpiez Also, even if you don't varnish, vallejo's washes/inks are very very matt.

Has anyone done a video on how to do tarnished copper/brass/bronze?
Are Rackham orc minis metal or plastic/resin?

+HybridSoldierAdtur A red brown then stipple on some orange brown.
i like to base coat brown for rust :)
How do you paint the base after painting the mini? Did you mask the mini or moved it to a new painted base?
+Khi-Jon Chua Nope. Base is painted via brush.
Nice effect, looks rusty but not ruined. Just a question, how do the new Vallejo air metal paints work?
+Mikel Jokin Echeveste Well, but thin.
+Doctor Faust's Painting Clinic
Thanks for the reply
+Mikel Jokin Echeveste Take your time with them, they're extremely easy to mess up if you don;t.
+Mikel Jokin Echeveste Also if we are talking about brush painting them, the gold color sucks.

VMA Gun Grey - MC Gunmetal Grey (to dark?)
VMA Steel - MC ???
VMA Chrome - MC Chrome
thanks ^^ .
+khalenth Dark aluminum is close, but has a tinge of brown.
How did you do the skin tone on this one?
+xurg10 Ancient Chinese secret.
Dang, should have guess that.
I was wondering about this too!

Child labor?
Nice to see how a rust job is done properly. Up until now I've just cheated with GW's Typhus Corrosion & Ryza Rust.

I have all my gas and water paid already so that's no worry

+Finley Clark Don't buy it and send me the money for safekeeping.
is the paint durable?
Yes.
+Doctor Faust's Painting Clinic I been trying to custom my g.I Joe's but the paint comes off pretty quickly, what would you recommend me?
That's more an issue with the surface. Try lighting sanding first and apply a primer and a finishing varnish.
+Doctor Faust's Painting Clinic thanks very much, I appreciate it
Thanks for the vid, doc! :)
Nice! However, I think that purple shading on the skin steals the show here.
