Telling them to let their primer sit over night 👌 an underrated tip. I promise it helps prevent all sorts of issues
Zenithal is king! Your videos have completely changed my painting. I can now actually complete entire armies to a standard I am happy with. Keep up the good work, sir.
I've recently experimented with speedpaints over silver undercoat and it's fantastic. Gravelord grey for steel, yellow for gold (bright yellow for cartoonish, or more orange for realistic), and orange, crusader skin, pale bone and leather for copper, brass, corroded steel... you should try it.
The end result looks fantastic. Such a cool model, too. Thanks, Uncle.
It's good to see something on solid technique. Very educational.
Great video! To the point with great tips and not a 30 minute time waster, a healthy amount of humor too? Thanks man, can’t wait to see more of your videos.
That felt like the old school throwback , was waiting for the technical difficulties screen to pop up at some point.😅
Contrast paints over metallic base (either drybrushed or flat silver) is a great way to do different metals.
Yellow for gold, orange for copper, gore-grunta fur for brassy look etc. For a shiny look, do a final highlight or drybrush with pure silver again.
Fabulous video with some great tips to paint quickly - right up my alley - thank you Uncle A
"Uncle Atom is not actually an uncle."
Next you're going to tell us he's not got any atoms, either! Just a banner day for disappointments.
Nope, he's composed entirely of bosons.😀
Amazing paint job. It's better than my display level painting!
Awesome paint job. The minis are awesome. Nice video. Keep up the good work.
Sometimes depending on the model geometry I will break the inside out rule and start with dry brushing the exterior parts first. That way when my dry brushing accidentally hits unintended parts I don't care that much cause it's not a part that are actually painted yet 😅.
Good video!!
Nice recipe.
I hadn't thought of doing armor like that.
"Meh, I know how to do armor..."
D'oh!
But maybe there's another way.
Nicely done sir!
Thank you.
I make all my own hobby paints. I just purchased a huge lot of acrylic inks and some metallic and fluorescent mica powders to make my own contrast paints. I use matte acrylic medium, distilled water and flow medium to get it to the right consistency. Recently I focused on creating a full range of metallics and chameleon paints. I’ll use a pearlescent medium for the base instead of the matte medium to give it that metallic sheen. I also have metallic and shimmer effect alcohol inks which are great for making translucent glazes when used with a matte varnish. I’m doing all of this to start my own budget diy hobby channel.
You can actually be my uncle, then you'll actually be an uncle.
🤨
Adam would be the best fun uncle.
I think Uncle Atom is everyone’s uncle
Thank you for making this a very approachable, helpful video!
Love a protip. It's such a quality intro, and always a good tip.
I like my metal to be fast and simple and look good too! One of those washes I haven’t tried I’ll have to pick that up.
The more I see the kind of models and quality of STL's available, the more I want to get a 3D printer....
excellent technique, I used it for my Iron Warriors army
That model looks great! Nice trick for armor.
That turned out awesome.
You actually save my ass for the weekend im going to 3d print the new humam empire from one page and they have looooots of metal armor
For fast mostLy armored, spray prime with a silver metal (Army Painter, Citadel, etc), wash Nuln oil, dry brush silver (Neuron Compound). Then other color details. Did a dozen Gondor soldiers in an hour this way not counting basing and drying time.
You always say you aren't very good but I think your models look great!
…now with BONUS pro tip!
Such great ideas, def trying some out on my blood bowl orcs!
Very nice, thanks for sharing.
Good stuff. I think you also mentioned your recipe for black Space Marine armor again as well recently? I seem to remember it being prime black, highlight with gray zenithal, maybe one more lighter highlight, and then a dark wash to bring it all back down? Asking because I have a black armor project planned in the near future.
I’m thinking of a black armor recipe video next month, actually. Thanks for watching!
One day I will be as good as you. I watch another channel that does live painting of mini where you can have a conversation with the group putting it on. You are to large of a channel to do that, but I am practicing to be a better painter. Thanks for all you do!
I do paint live on Twitch twice a week. Usually Friday mornings at 10 a.m. Central time and Monday nights at 7 p.m. Central time, and I talk with chat while I’m painting. Come check it out at www.twitch.tv/tabletopminions if you get the chance. Thanks for watching!
Wonderful tips.
Great stuff friend 👏 👍
Excellent tips! Would you be willing to either answer or do a video on edge highlights on models already painted and sealed, please?
I’ve been using thinned Ratling Grime over metal quite a bit lately for that dirty metal.
Since copper rusts to green it'd be fascinating to see what it'd come out if layer 3 out of 4(or 5?) is a patina-green.
It mightn't work for these orcs tho, they're already green :)
theres a dude with a video where he puts gold leaf on a rhino, so i guess that is the ultimate how you do the metals
Trying to remember if you've ever done a video recently on how NOT to paint over what you've already painted, as it seems to be more of a potential problem with contrast/speed paints and something I still do way more than I'd like to.
Awesome work, thank you for such a fun and informative video! Your contrast over zenithal looks amazing. That green skin is SO smooth. Whenever I try this, I find the contrast comes out looking very uneven and splotchy. Any idea what I could be doing wrong? Are you glazing it on very thinly? Thinning it down with medium? Putting it on a wet pallet? Etc. Thank you!
Straight out of the pot, shaken vigorously, but I do put it on quickly with a bigger brush (size 4) which might help combat the splotchiness. Thanks for watching!
Any tips for painting armor for knights that isn’t weathered or worn? I do going to be doing lot of ASOIAF minis.
So I'm working on this mini, I wish I could find a way to show it. The tabletop I'm painting it for, they want black and purple color scheme.
The knight is on top of an undead goat/horse type of mount. He has a big shield, and the mini is very detailed. How can I make purplish black shiny armor? I'm a beginner lol I've got the techniques down in your video but I'd like to have purple or black shiny armor
Love the tips! Would this work with a color metallic like green or purple? I’m scared of edge highlighting Drukhari armor. Thanks!
I would think so, yes. Thanks for watching!
All Hail the You Tube Algorithm Gods. Great looking paint job by the way...
Pachow counter: 3
Can you do that for space marine please
da red onez do go fasta
Hi. Awesome video and tips. But whats up with thirty three.
amazing gonna try these next time i paint which god knows when thats gonna happen
Red onez definitely go faster
Everytime I watch a painting video by this guy, he's always saluting 🫡 and mvp'in makeup brushes.
The man is obsessed! But did that silver drybrysh sit nicely 👌
