      In fairness, Day Lewis even laughs about the fact that he doesn't want or need to speak about his films. He feels all that stuff is guff. What he does isn't that important. It's only a movie at the end of the day and although the people involved work very hard to make it, like all great art, movies are useless.

      @@garbohydrates193 He may not, no. Just because he learns the role and excels in it, it does not follow that he understands the director's full intentions. Phoenix has been in two Anderson movies now, but do you think he knows why Anderson had his strange obsession with Exodus? Does he understand why Anderson references Kubrick in the way he does? Whoever posted that comment is not calling Phoenix and idiot, but he he is saying he will not know as much about the film as the guy who made it.

      No there isn't, today's hair fashion is heavily influenced by that of the 50's. Clean cuts, pompadours, etc. in fact most of these hairstyles have survived every generation since -including the 90's.

And aside from that it's egocentric/Luciferian/ low morale environment. So she's dealing with a lot, they all are. A lot of rumor of child sacrifice and blood ritual and orgies and casting couches. Amazing book, amazing movie & cast. Pynchon conspiracy theory: Mickey Wolfmann bad guy likely based on Roland Arnall real estate grifter in 1970’s Orange County & nationally in the 2000’s. Arnall was Bush’s biggest contributor, sponsored the Texas Rangers & wound up as Bush’s Amb. to Luxembourg with $3 billion from selling fraud based loans to Lehman Bros. He supposedly “died” in 2008 just before Lehman & banks failed as told in the book “Monster” (as in Wolfmann). And like, who cares already? Pynchon cared. Joaquin?? He did great as Doc. Matthew Sebastiao he said “literary” was bad in that it is an unhelpful word when describing literature. It’s like calling a painting “painterly”.

      Inherent Vice is definitely the worst film of PTA. Not that is that bad, but his others are so better. And I doubt it can grow on you, The Master can grow on you and is better each time you watch it, Inherent Vice is just exhausting.

      David Lean
      It feels like when the Coens did Ladykillers but way way way to much happening and a storyline that makes you not even care what happens

    • @davidlean1060
      @davidlean1060 9 лет назад +2

      I couldn't disagree more, I love it, but then again I have read some Pyhcon before and I recognize it, you get me? Not only do I think this will become my fav PTA film, I think it's also the most subversive he has made. I could go into why, but all people seem interested in at this early stage is that the film is confusing..it isn't, because the film is not about 'the plot'.

    • @widM_
      @widM_ 9 лет назад +2

      David Lean I know this film is not about the plot, but about what is it really? All other elements are incoherent too. I think this film doesn't' succeed in any way to convey something. All things feels all over the place, so I don't really care about anything that's going on. I think that's the biggest problem. PTA films should not make you drowsy and exhausting. Ok there were some moments and some potentially cool atmoshpere but as a whole... it was such a unpleasant experience and such a disappointment. I highly doubt it I would check this film soon again and I consider myself as a PTA fan so I don't say that easily.

    Joaquin Phoenix is really annoying. I find his behavior disrespectful towards the audience. It's another one of his pressers (or kind-of-pressers) in which he wants to show everyone how much he doesn't care what's going on around him. Is that something that's supposed to make him look cool? That "I don't care, man" pose? Is this his idea of being "deep" or "funny"? Am I supposed to kiss his feet because he's so indifferent? I don't get people who like this (some comments here). If he really doesn't care or is irritated by the questions or anything, why bother showing up? Even if he's contractually obliged to participate in any event that could serve as promotion for the film, he could always give any kind of excuse and not show up. Instead, he will show up, act like he's stoned or retarded, laugh a little out of things which maybe only the crew can understand, because they are based on their internal discussions and that's it. What a douche.

      You're supposing a lot of things.
      What do you know about the guy ? Are there any precise details about him that can proove he's just phony ?
      All i see here are people admiring the guy for good or futile reasons and those who do the opposite, for good and futile reasons too.
      He's not my buddy, people can be phony. But don't ever try to deduce anything about a person's character without knowing her and then even call it an "attitude",
      I often just wander off, i cross my arms a lot, i prefer to listen sometimes and stay silent, and a lot of people do that too. Hell i've met friends who just don't act like i would or fail to oblige basic social conventions without even knowing it.
      You ask a lot of questions in there, so maybe you're still unsure, youtube comment section tends to make people write their complete thought process instead of just throw a constructive comment after a good minute of reflexion, but you should just live outside your own persona and consider how intricate anyone alse's mind can be, they live on a different planet than yours, we just connect with shared experience, than anyone connects differently.

      I'm a fan ?
      That's your conclusion ? Indeed you lack patience.. Critical reading skills would do you some good, at no point have i ever focused on the guy or defended him.
      Anyway, you just illustrate my point again and jump to conclusions you draw by yourself out of impressions and lack of reflexion.
      Your comment was factice, but it wasn't trolling, that's what worried me.
      Good luck, gonna need it i think.

      I actually agree with everything you wrote. It's completely unprofessional of Phoenix to come on and have a "I don't give a fuck, and how dare you, you fucking pleb for annoying me with questions about this film," kind of attitude. Obviously the fanboy that had a long winded diatribe in response to you doesn't understand what professionalism means. As the saying goes, "Act like a professional." What this means is that no matter how you feel on that particular day, if you are obligated to perform your professional duties, do it to the highest level of competence that you can muster. In fact Phoenix's lack of professionalism in most of the events that he is required to promote movies has been a deal breaker to me in deciding if I want to watch a movie he's in. I'll probably pirate this movie instead of paying to see it in theaters.
