Part 6 of 6 - Recording vocals well in your home studio is one of the most important things you could learn.
No matter how good the rest of your tracks sounds, if the vocals sound amateur, the entire song sounds amateur.
So today I'm going to show you how to get a great vocal recording!
In this video I teach you where to place your microphone in the room, how to get the best sound out of your microphone, and a simple trick to making your vocals pop in the hook of your song. - Видеоклипы

Helped a fuck ton.
I have a sennheiser e835 , it's a handheld live performance mic but it sounds great with the pre amp on with my interface, if i put a muffle as a popper and use your 8 inch distance and record in the middle of the room would that work to?
please sing your style my lyrics:
Deep in my mind
I erased your number
From my phone
But I cant delete
your smile from my mind,
it is deep in my mind
now i cured my heart
and put on all stitches
they are scars of love
that I will keep hidden
Chorus:
Deep in my mind
Deep in my mind
verse 2
and if I see you again ,
somewhere around
I’ ll fade away
And mix in the crowd
‘cause my beaten (toren) heart
Won’t stand with (survive)
Another wound
Now I am ready to start all
From the beginning
But your smile again
Appears in my mind
Chorus:
Deep in my mind
Deep in my mind
Mate, you're already an idol for your generosity. Do you actually realize how big a difference you're making for people who thought this would be impossible? I'm in Rio, just managed to put my 2-months old daughter to sleep after a day at the office and started my first recording because of you. Can't thank you enough. I wish all the best and please keep the videos coming! Abraço
amazing!
same here irmao!!!!
you're so sweet! Let's connect!! Can I find you on IG under Luis ROdrigues? When you gonna do a concert with me in the US??

Luis Rodrigues hope your daughter is still doing well after 3 years brother🤞
First I felt suspicious about all these "FREE Guide" things on this channel, but damn... They actually help a lot and I didn't even encounter any parts where he was like "yeah... now order my very cool book and stuff so you can learn the important things"... None of that.
I don't know about product placement, because he sure recommends a few items, but I don't even care. They are useful and cheap things that actually work perfectly.
don't worry when you get over 50,000 views even, youre makinng money 300,000k subscribers...you're a millionaire.
Yeah sure. But what you should ask yourself is why you people never like paying for something even though the value is there. You like everything for free which is weird because this guy doesn't put all this work out there without investing in a few things, camera, microphone, lighting ect.. yet you enjoyed having everything for free. Kinda sad
@@gfmcorp6161 preach. Everyones mad cynical. I would have paid a fair price to hear all the advice and knowledge he has from his experience. And since he decides to just focuse on bringing value, that's why he'll continue to have success. And how ever he can monetize without going against his truths he should.
GFM Corp For sure. Free guides are not always a devious way to gain something by the presenter. He is very genuine in his overview so I've gotten much value from the video. I totally get your point too, and I agree. Very glad to.see that the guides are helpful! I subbed🏅
Graham, please consider extending these series to mixing and mastering the song. It'd be really helpful to see the whole process. Thanks!
Did you watch the video til the end? ;)
Nike Farmer I was in the middle of the video when I made that comment. Btw he already started the mixing series!

Putting a little reverb on the vocal track is generally a good idea so that the singer doesn't have to hear their voice dry. Helps to make them a little more comfortable hearing their voice.
Commander Replay pretty sure he doesn't have an issue with that.
This is completely right now i need a video on how to make my Mic do it
@@stonedmermaid679 Reverb is an effect that you apply on your computer in your DAW, not something you apply on your microphone. Hope this helps!
Sevrin no you can do both. By applying a pedal to the vocal mic or like u stated in the DAW.
@@aaron4757 but it will get kind of muddy on the process ones it gets to your daw.,. We'll basically you could make some touch up edit to it, but not revert it to plain setting since it was recorded with analog effect rather than digital. Same goes with 🎸 guitar recording I've tried recording a song using analog and it sucked.
Its actually funny thing, that most of people ignore that FREE guide that is made available by the artists. Trust me when you start working in professional world, you shall be needing help in every bit, every morsel would have to be spoon fed and these scripts are the skeletal for every project. So hereby we must thank and appreciate the efforts made and since this is especially for people like you and me, it is all the more imperative to be supportive. Thanks a lot Graham!
I've literally recorded vocals in my living room *closet* with the door closed and a blanket draped over my head (and the microphone/stand). I can't imagine how stupid I would have looked had someone walked in on me, but it actually worked quite well.
Dave Carsley hahahahahaha. Me too
My Mic wears a hat at all times. At first it was just to keep the dust off the mic when not in use, but just fooling around with the mic one day I was doing a test record and just didn't take the hat off. When I went to record it for real I took the hat off and found that it sounded better with the hat left on. Apparently the hat was blocking some of the ambient room sound and made the recording sound quieter. Now I always record with a hat on the mic and it sounds just as good in the treated room as it does just sitting in my living room.
Ah, you invented your own Burqa-booth! I've seen videos of people doing this! :)

These videos are edited, to cut to the chase. I'm sure he could probably one take these, but i would think it be easier for him to put together the videos by breaking them down in parts and editing them to one seemless video.
Graham is still a leading figure when it comes to home recording. I don't think anyone on this platform is as giving. The content is always solid and spot on. Top notch content. Cheers
It's funny how he put so much energy into the singing and went back to talking like nothing 💀🙏🔥🔥
Graham, this was seriously the best tutorial series I've ever seen on recording, cannot believe it didn't cost a dime. So stoked about the mixing series coming up!
Once again - thank you very much, Graham! I've got much deeper into recording because of your videos and each and every one of them has been so helpful it's ridiculous! Keep it up!
My recordings have always been sloppy and after watching your videos I feel a million times more satisfied with my work thank you so much for this and the acoustic guitar video ❤️❤️❤️
Graham my friend you are the SHIT! Been so discouraged by people when it comes to writing/recording/producing music and now after watching your videos Ive never been more inspired. Ready to get the ball rolling, thanks again
Graham, I've been following you since you started this channel, I still get excited whenever you upload a new video, thanks for doing this.
Been watching for years, you and your channel are irreplaceable. I can't speak for the world, but I for one really appreciate all of the free content you put out. You are an excellent teacher! Thank you
I really like your videos! I live how you enforce how it really doesn't matter what gear you use but it's how you use it. So many engineers can be so snooty about gear.
This video really is helpful, as a rapper I now know how to do vocals, huge shout out and thanks
IAmCPK anyway you could PM me?? Have some questions (no not looking for a handout) more so advice
Thoroughly enjoyed and learned a lot from this series! Thank you so much! Please keep making such series. God bless
This is the best video I have found on RUclips to help people who are looking to record songs at home. And not only that ... recording from scratch is a bonus! You have a great voice by the way, so thank you so much Graham for a brilliant tutorial, well presented and in chronological order too.
5 years later and I just finish watching all of your "from scratch" videos, I'm lost for words absolutely 100 percent hands down the greatest videos I believe I have came across on RUclips. These videos just made my recording and mixing process 1 million percent better. YOU AMONG THE GREATS GRAHAM, Thank you brother!
This is so helpful! I know nothing about recording but I really want to!! Thanks
You are the man bro! What a voice and thanks for the video and education!
Man i cannot thank you enough for having this channel and doing all these videos to help us. I know personally these have really been a HUGE help in making mixing so much easier, and even recording. I was getting so frustrated with my mixes trying to figure out what i was doing wrong, but after watching all of your videos, especially those on Vocals and microphones, i feel so much more comfortable attacking songs again and getting back to doing what i love. Thank you again for all the help brothaman!
Graham these videos are so helpful. Long time player, first time producer here that is very grateful of your content, thank you!
Dope recording and Great Help!! I like how simple you teach each step
Thanks Graham! For this very excellent content and meticulous explanations; this is just the channel I've been looking for; Keep up the good work!
Two years later and i'm finally getting to view this. Thanks Graham. Wonderful stuff.
Your whole style is so helpful. You make it simple to understand for anyone and also care about making sure you use accessible tools for people on budgets. You’re the best, thanks a lot for your help
This song sounds delicious. Great singing
Loved this series. Just started recording my won songs and knew a lot of these tricks but some I didn't so was really nice to get a refresher course with some new advice (best take away is the volume while recording vocals, I always think my noise floor is too loud when it's probably some other outside source I need to isolate and not the preamp) can't wait to hear you mix this.
I have learned so much from watching your videos through out the year, I've downloaded your six steps and will use it for my new album. Great work!
this is SOOO helpful! I've always just been the one singing and my friends (the producers) dealing with everything. now that I'm working with a producer on the other side of the country, I have to record my own vocals. Thank you so much for this!!
Wow, I love this song! Thank you for your informative videos!

I strongly agree with you that the vocalist deserves the entire mix. I finished mine yesterday, and today my singer with do a practice session that will help us find our best collaboration.
By the way, that's a cool song. It's giving me goosebumps!
Wow!!! Love your song!!!! It’s beautiful!!! Great job on the video too! Thank you for the lessons
You are a legend mate! I bought a scarlett studio set and spent the first few days clueless on how to record and work with Pro Tools First. Your series has been all I needed. Thank you so much!
Just recently found your channel and wow! Your explanations are short, clear and to the point. So refreshing! While mostly just getting back into recording at a home level, I find so much useful information in your videos. Thanks for the info and keep up the great work. Btw, great voice brother!
Man, such great content and delivery. Love your videos.
You cite the inverse square law ... that's maths. Engineers use maths ... yep, you're an engineer.
Sweet. Made me smile!
The tip about recording doubles and recording emphasis tracks was a big help. "Oldest trick in the book" but I still didn't know! This was a big help. It changed the entire way I did a song!!! THANKS A MILLION MAN
You're a blessing!!!!!! I just realized I wanted to produce my own music and had no idea where to start! Long story short your videos have help me out a TON. Thank you so much! ❤️
Thanks, man. I was about to give it up and do another thing...
Hey Graham !! could you please make a Full Fledged series of making a song with Virtual Instruments. From what sorta gear is needed, to using drum pads, Midi keyboards, Synth patches used, etc...
Thank You !!
This guy is AWESOME! Thank you so much for doing what you do, you are a natural and patient teacher and the way you explain so many complicated things in a simple way and break this complex process down for a common MF is absolutely amazing! I went to a digital audio production/recording school and it cost me well over 30 grand in school loans and the whole nine yards and I didnt learn SHIT!!! I have learned more and grasped so many basic concepts that just instantly and effortlessly click from watching just a few of his videos than I got out of the better part of 2 years sitting in a "studio environment" with trained instructors and "experienced audio engineers" mostly sitting there scratching my head dumbfounded wondering what the hell they're talking about. Wish i had stumbled upon this first, years ago! Might have gotten more out of my formal "education" if I had and grasped the basics beforehand. I just finished the 6 part series and I am HOOKED! It has already helped me tremendously fine tune my rec process and connect the dots and get the flow going. Keep up the good work and keep doing what you do, you rock brother!
I got into writing rap a few years ago. Just bought a home studio. This isnt my type of music but man youre so helpful and after learning more about making music I have learned to apriciate different genres more. You make such easy guides to understand. Cant wait to quit work and hit the studio and implement what I learned from you.
It would be really interesting to see him walk through up till mastering sessions with this track.
Graham always putting out great content!!! You're a big inspiration to our music and recording step!!
Loving this recording help but honestly this song is extremely good, riff, lyrics, melody, additional fills etc. awesome
Graham, you are the king. Your videos are by far the best instruction videos for home recording on the internet. Whenever I have a question, I'll do a quick search and look for Recording Revolution. Thanks so much bro
I've made a music production course four years ago, and it's awesome to remember all those stuff

You are indeed an awesome Earth Angel. I am sending you and your loved ones loads of positive energy well wishes. Love, Joy, Peace, and Prosperity!
maaaan, you're my best youtube discovery yet! :-D
One thing THIS series exemplifies that is often overlooked, especially by those who don't create, is that YOU are working from a song that is in your head. When you started with the drum tracks and bass track it was...interesting...but as you added layers the song began to take shape in the DAW as it obviously existed in your HEAD!
Great series, learning a lot, motivated to get with the program and put what's in MY head onto tracks.
Awesome as usual, Graham. We're looking forward to seeing you mix and master this too. :) You're a very generous guy! Love you, brother.
The absolute best & the most generous teacher online. Thanks Graham! I'm forever grateful
Dude this is Sick! Thank you for breaking it down step by step. Awesome work. Earned a Sub from me.
I'm new to all this so this helps alot thx man.
I wanna start a band someday, and even though I'm doing electric guitar, I was wondering how the vocals would work. Thanks
Thanks for the series Graham. I'm looking forward to the mix video. Cool song!
wow his voice is amazing!!!! wasn’t expecting that at all but wheeew 😍 and all of that in one take? man, that’s what I call talent
I thank JESUS for you, ive learned so much And when I get on Im coming to see you. You the man Gram.
Send Jesus my regards when you speak to him. i've been meaning to thank him for all the good he did. He's amazing how he creates humans out of dust. Just amazing! Thank you Jesus. Hell yeah
Hey Graham,
As a complete novice at home recording I find your tutorials a massive help,
I'm wondering have you to be technically minded in this world of digital recording to produce a quality recording, While I have no major issues actually recording a piece , it's when it comes to the mixing , mastering, compression stage , it completly goes over my head as regards to vu meters , levels, attacks, etc, and can get quite disheartened because I feel Im not going to be able to produce that '' Radio Ready Song'' as you say, not that I'm going to be producing radio songs it's just for myself to make a CD and to sell at my gigs but I still like the quality to be there for the listener ''IF'' they purchase a CD.
Graham, this song kicks ass! Hope you're gonna make it a single or a part of upcoming EP!
Great vid as usual! Looking forward to the mixing section! All the best, friend!
Graham, can,t praise enough I saw all episodes of your record a song from scratch in one go, learnt a lot and it was for first time for me for such learning - regards Dee Jay Indian
That will be a dream if I can recorded a song in a real studio!! I love to sing!!!!😁
Is there anywhere I can listen to the full song because it's gr8
This series has been fantastic - thanks Graham! Looking forward to part two :)
great dude can't wait for the next video to see the mixing process. thank you so much
Where can I get this song? Spotify or SoundCloud or something like that? Would be great to hear the end result.
Ok I play the “Hey what’s the name of this tune” because this song sounds just addicting.
Excellent presnetation and i am sure helps a lot of folks around. Great job..looking forward to mixing series
I really appreciate being walked through what to do and as I am lucky enough to have a week of annual leave next week I AM going to record something in the next 7 days! It's in black and white now, I'm going to do it! How can you not be inspired by this series. Thanks so much Graham! :)
mixing series next
My only problem in recording is that I always forget my own lyrics so I’m looking at my phone the entire time
You don’t need to do it all in one verse bro, takes time to get use to so just start off by reading little by little.
You are a savior my friend! thank you so much! Im a big fan of your philosophy as well as your music! Specially your song called "The Tree" ive been listening to it non stop!!!!!!!!!!
I love you Graham, I've been addicted to these videos for a year or two.
Yo the song youre recording is fucken dope! It reminded me of something Chris Cornell would sing. RIP
Cheers bro keep up the good work ! 🍻
You should give us the tracks to mix as well.
These videos are always so well done. Great information. Free teaching. Truly a revolutionary work.
«The next series i'm gonna make is about mixing» that sentence made a spark of joy in my heart :D
Wait, why is direct monitoring not an option here? I always mute the pro tools track and monitor myself directly from my mixer to avoid latency.
Yeah, it would seem logical to just flick that switch that says "DIRECT MONITOR" right above the headphone connector.
Can you end the whole series by playing the whole finished song? Do it like a release party.
Just want to let you know I love your videos. I'm just getting started and everything is new to me. Your videos are extremely helpful!
I am dreaming up my first project....finally after finding you here on youtube. Thanks. Keep the teaching coming.
"We don't hear it as humans because we tune it out" xD
I'm on a desktop. Fan is running, and it definitely comes up in the mix. Is it ok to put myself in a small closet filled with clothing? I'm limited on options. I have the exact same tools you have, except my mic is a $100 Audio Technica condenser mic.
I have the same problem I'm not sure either if a closet would help
@@bigstunna2049 I tried it out. It's officially my vocal booth. Works great.
@@truthseeker11 thx I'll have to try it out
@@bigstunna2049heck yeah man! That's actually a suggestion most people make as opposed to treating your whole room if you don't have that as an option. I don't have a closet big enough to record in, so I ended up making a cheap vocal booth from PVC pipe and packing blankets
