ah, such nostalgic feeling. i am reaching out to lovers of old hong kong tv commercials for help. my sister was in a commercial on hong kong tv in 1970 and/or 1971. it was for an airline. probably boac or maybe cathay pacific or another is even possible. she was about 5 years old, had long blonde hair, and ran up to her "mother" in the ad. i apologize for the vagueness of the description but it was a long time ago and i was very young. i do remember how excited we were the first time it aired. and how stupid that excitement seemed after we had seen it hundreds of times. if you know this commercial or have it we would love to see it again. if i could find this piece of video it may make her, and me, happy.
I was enjoying some grass jelly for dessert this evening and I ended up searching for a grass jelly drink commercial that I used to see on one of the Asian TV channels back in the 90s when I was a kid. That rabbit hole led me here. This stuff is a bit before my time, but I noted the Japanese and American cigarette commercials. The soundtrack for Mild Seven legit slaps. That tourist board commercial also cracked me up. I imagine many Hong Kongers wish the buffet-destroying tourists from the mainland had better manners.
is anyone able to identify the announcer at 3:18? and to the uploader, do you have any more clips of ATV Diamond from this period? i know it's only a second, but it appears to be an unidentified, extremely enigmatic English dub VA who was active in the Hong Kong film dubbing scene ca. 1966-1972. you can hear his voice all over HK films 1967-1969, mostly dubbing Wang Yu, and he's heard all over dubs of Japanese films during his whole active period. any help would be genuinely appreciated. my friends and I research film dubbing and have ruled out probably a hundred people at this point, basically all we know is he's canadian and was selective with his dubbing roles.
And no Internet, no trolls, no one goes "commit suicide" after a 2 second scene, everyone are generally too busy and no free time to think crap, and no one need to worry about making things that can upset some glass hearted people 500000000 miles away because they mostly won't know about it. And one more thing, most people back then appreciated with what they do.
Probably why they are all in English. I couldn't help notice they still had cigarette advertising in the 1980s. In the US, that was banned at the end of 1970. Most people in the US are too young to remember cigarettes advertised on TV.
Do you have any old Bang Bang commercials? I was in one from 76/77 that was shot in a fake disco with a bunch of other american kids from HKIS and it was hilariously bad, would love to see it again!
It looks like South African TV during apartheid. There was segregation in HK but not as bad. Local Chinese couldn’t live high above sea level where the British lived.
That cigarette commercial wasn't subtle at all was it? He sprayed all over her, laughed, got her out of her clothes and they both lit up a nice big phallic stick for a second round.
I've been looking for weeks, for a chinese commercial from the 80s I think, maybe 70s, where you have this chinese guy taking pictures of everything while yelling I NEED TO COPY THIS. Can't find it :( Saw it as a kid on a french television but it was translated.
If I could travel back in time HK in the early 80s was awesome
Hong Kong was such an amazing country back then. I love Hong Kong and will always support Hong Kong no matter what.

Television in Hong Kong at that time was influenced by US, UK, as well as Australian and Japanese TV.

Those were the days when most of the famous commercial merchandises NOT made in China.
