Wow. This update is a big step in the right direction re live performances. I've been waiting for this feature in a keyboard since forever. Thumbs up to the team at Roland. Great job.
Yes, this IS a little confusing - I have to admit I listened to this a few times before it clicked. But the resulting ability to use so many layers live is HUGE. Think about it - Marimba, Saw, piano, strings AND a nice funky sweep all layered for example. You could build some very cool sounds!
Thank you, Ed, for those great tutorials. I have a technical questions: Using a FA-07 for life performance, I use several switch groups to quickly change between the sounds within the songs (layers, splits and various combinations). This actually works great. But I also use an EV-5 expression pedal to control the main volume (CC 07). (I also have tried a classic analog volume pedal, but this introduces too much noise.) However, when I select a new switch group while playing, the volume is reset to its maximum. The pedal position is not considered! Only if I move the pedal a little bit, the "correct" volume level is used. This behavior is annoying, particularly if I play a silent part (the pedal generates a small value) and change the part (volume becomes much too loud). Is there an easy solution to avoid this problem? If not, can you please ask the firmware engineers to fix it? Requirement: When the switch group is changed, the current position of the expression pedal must be considered and applied to the new switch group setting. Thank you very much and take care, michaeL
Hi Ed, thanks for this tutorial... I want to ask you how could i fix a specific part when i use the differents groups...for example in group 1 you used piano and strings and imagine you want to change the strings cutoff, in group 2 you want to change the ep volume , in group 3 you want to change the cutoff for Jp strings (that is part 4 in your example),etc... I tried to fix the sound to change setting every group in the same part (something like if i want to change tje cutoff of part 3, i set up group 3), but didn't work and looks like works in random way ...originally when you are creating the groups, every group response to each part, so group 1 select only the part 1,etc..., but when you select more parts this logic doesn't work...i missed something? I hope this could be possible...and i hope you could understand my english :D Best regards from Chile.
How do I set it up in go studios 12. The daw works no problem but the actual sounds from the keyboard does not read it in fl studios for some reason. I'm so so frustrated. Please help..ANYBODY..😒
Please, PLEASE, please, make it so you can adjust the/some part volumes with the assignable knobs.... This is something I use constantly on my Yamaha keyboards. But is missing completely from this board (as far as I know).
@@aerogus you could do like i do, i send directly sysex for enable or disable the part of the studioset. I asked to roland for this, but whey implement only a part of what i asked, the group keyboard switch, but not the pedal control for this groups. UFFF
Great vids. Does using Keyboard switch groups help with note stealing or dropping? I think my style of playing and the amount part layers are leading polyphony issues. I was wonder would this help. Ps I use a midi controller to select and control volume levels when playing the FA08 live.

Damn Ed is the the man. Your tutorials are so helpful and direct
Wow this machine has more than you can wish. Love it.
Amazing I've been trying to figure out how to do this.
Thanks Ed! This is a really great video, very useful 👍🏻

Ed if I want to upgrade the FA when I load the Back up I will have my settings same as I used to work in the previos version? Thanks!!!
*I had a Roland expression pedal on my (now dead) E-86. Is is safe to use it on my new FA-08 or could some problems happen ?*
What if I want to use samples during live play and switch the parts at the same time ? It is not possible ? :-(
Same question here
Someone have a workaround for use a foot controller for switching group instead of the pad ?
how do i set up splits ed, i understand layers
Hi Ed, how come you mention that there's a 2.0 OS update and on the Roland website, the latest available is 1.03?
House of Zorn There is definitely a 2.0 update. As a matter of fact there are 2. Check again, my friend
FA 06 keyboard has styles if yes how many
How I might to load styles from pendrive to FA 06 pl conform.
is there a way to trigger switch groups via midi in a daw and change them remotely?

hi! have you figured out how to control volume of differents layers in real time?
When i sample how do i keep the sample looping without cutting off

I'm coming from a Korg to this Roland...I am totally confused....ughhh...
Thx. Can you send a sysex to the FA-06/07/08 to control the current keyboard switch group ? I can't find the info in the "midi implementation doc" ?
You can't ! (Roland's answer) :(

Same volume for each part per group

Shouldve name it live set or stage set instwad of studio set, this is more useful for live playing
Just a lot of talking and confusion
