My personal favorite movie of the 7 mainline X-Men movies. 6 years after it was released, it is still a great movie and one of the best comic book movies ever made.
It’s just tragic that they took the wrong lessons from the movie. It was the original casts return that got it to be the highest grossing mainline X-Men film. My idea for Apocalypse was a 2 parter that has Apocalypse fight the First Class cast in part 1 and seemingly defeat him only to find out in part 2 that he comes back 30 years later and we end the whole saga with original cast.
Technically, there are only six mainline X-Men movies. Dark Phoenix was more of a Jean Grey spin-off.

X-Men in the comics and animated series have so many alternate futures including the old man Logan one , that this one is my all time fave alternate end for the X-Men films :)
This movie was the swansong the X-men deserved, not Logan. I love Logan, but to leave a franchise like that...
I think we can all agree tho that the franchise should've not have ended with Dark Phoenix tho
I'm still holding out hope that the current actors will reprise their roles for the MCU
