The thing that gets me about MN9 is that the task was so fucking simple: MAKE A MEGAMAN GAME. Megaman games are formulaic as fuck, because the formula WORKS. A platform shooter with themed bosses, each giving an upgrade, and some chiptune metal while you jump & shoot. HOW do you fuck that up?
Sjur Gaustad It was fucked because Inafunei was so focused on making a ton of things at once instead of working hard and polishing the initial promise. He wanted to make other games and a TV show. The team should just focused on polishing the game more in the presentational department. The gameplays really fun and the soundtracks pretty good but the graphics and voice acting are pure ass
Doom plays like its predecessors and is still fun. Bringing back a old game and improving upon it is not really that hard, they just had to care about it.
Well, Inafune wasn't even that involved in the creation of Megaman until his X and Zero series of games. In the classic titles of games, he just made the color scheme of Megaman.
As in the reboot XCOM is bad? It's honestly not that bad as some people make it out and some of the things done in the second one shows they have some semblance of an idea on how to make it more like the originals.

But here's the thing: MN9's greatest flaw isn't its sad-ass dialogue or positively horrible visual aesthetic. It's the gameplay. This game was supposed to be a spiritual successor to Mega Man, or at least Megaman X. And in some respects, it is. The gameplay lets you run, jump and shoot, and those three things are almost the mechanical mirror to the games to which they pay homage. Running is the same pace as Mega Man, jumping has the familiar arc you're used to, and shooting is every bit as fast as you can mash the damn button. They're great! Except that's not what the game's about. The game wants you to memorize the number of shooty pellets each enemy can take so you can pump exactly that number into them before you MUST dash through their physical form to absorb them for maximum points. POINTS?! What is this, The Wizard? Nobody's cared about points in video games since the Super Fucking Nintendo! Get that shit out of here I don't care about your dash and shoot absorption combo system just give me a fucking Mega Man where I run and jump and shoot DAMN IT.
trident042 this is why I think Mighty N9 shouldn't have been what it was. Gunvolt from Inticreates (team behind Megaman Zero) was the true spiritual successor to Megaman X in my opinion and every hardcore megaman fan should owe to itself to play it.
I thought MN9 was really good in gameplay. Kinda mediocre otherwise, but I enjoyed it. I'll have to play Azure Striker Gunvolt, tho, and probably get blown away

The hype was huge on every level from casual to developers, to publishers, it made huge promises it didnt come close to delivering. Sony also didnt take it well cause it had a lot riding on it...to name a couple.
I didn't get it either. All they wanted to talk about was how big and explorable the game would be. Always avoiding to show how the game actually plays. If it was gonna be a good game, then they wouldn't be hiding the gameplay.

Maybe, but I think Shantae proves that good games don't need big budgets. Heck, most good indie games didn't have half of MN9's budget, and I don't think Shantae would've benefited much from that much money anyways.
+ColonelSandwich But lets be honest, Wayforward deserves that much money so much more than the team behind Migty Number 9 does, they got funded and they used the money to release their game as high quality as possible, while Mighty Number 9 didn't give a shit about its fans and their passion, and instead released the game as a piece of shit beacuse they already got a ton of money anyways.

Think about Shantae as an indie game. A game that doesn't need a big budget to succeed. MN9 might have gotten a decent budget, but it had awful level design, voice acting, and easy bosses which is something that a true Mega Man game shouldn't have.
From what I have seen Jirard has a personal bias towards it since he is both a nintendo fanboy and has even gotten to meet Reggie from Nintendo America so take that how you will. Jared doesn't appear to have that bias so can speak more openly about it.
Jirard is a Nintendo fan, but he knows when they screw up better than anyone else because of it. I side with him. If he puts in the effort to complete the game 100%, I say his opinion is more valid than anyone else's. Than again, his is just that: an opinion.
Jirard is much more of a hardcore gamer than Jared is. Jirard is the type of person to power through a game even if it's shit or balls hard. Jared is more the person to either drop the game if it loses attention or continue on just to see how bad it will get. If you are the type of gamer who can look past an annoying and glaring issue and maybe even somewhat accept it you will enjoy it, if you can't get past the glaring issue you'll hate it.
you kinda have to ignore most steam games since they are nothing but crap designed to sell trading cards. also, every game on the worst list would be from steam and they would all basically be the same.
NarcoticDimension There are worse for sure.. Most of these just didn't live up to the hype/promises. The Division, for example, had really good combat and atmosphere, but there was a boring story and very little content. It was a huge disappointment and not a terrible game. I do understand that it wouldn't make sense for Jared to list a bunch of Steam garbage that no one has ever heard of though. Just saying, imo, disappointing would have been a more apt word to use.
I'm surprised that Super Mario Run didn't end up here. Nintendo hyped the absolute shit out of it, but they heavily overpriced it for what a dirt-simple cash-in it was, leading to TONS of one-star reviews and DROPPING NINTENDO'S STOCK *ELEVEN* FUCKING PERCENT.
Mighty No. 9...oh boy, I was just starting to completely forget that game was a thing. Time to go cleanse my mind of that travesty by playing Shovel Knight again.
That's to show how much generic it is. I forgot about it too, until I saw this video. But even though that game was lauched as what it supposed to be, I don't think it would do it many favors.
fun fact : Bombshell was advertised as the spiritual successor to Duke Nukem. In fact Bombshell was the name of a cancelled character from Duke Forever.
Blauze Yeah, but way before that, it was supposed to be a Duke Nukem game, and Bombshell would be a supporting character. But at the time Gearbox lauched that lausuit that made they claim the Duke's IP, so they had to change protagonists. Anyway, I don't think it would be that different if it was lauched as Duke Nukem: Mass Destruction (it's original title). DK Forever left a big stain in the franchise and also showed that it's sense of humor is dated (and it's the same kind of "writing" that Bombshell have), so I don't think many people were expecting that much to begin with.
Kaiosama TLJ I don't think Duke's humor is a problem when correctly written. In Forever, Duke can pick up poop and throw it. DNF would've been amazing if released in 2001, and we might have had antificipating Duke 7 or 8 in 2017 for all I know.
Jared, you're such a delight to watch and listen to. I look forward to all your ProJared vids, thank you for your critiques and insights in the gaming world. Can't wait to see more
Also, in the case of No Man's Sky, sorry but STARBOUND beat your thunder and even it at release had more freakin content than you did. AND THAT IS SAYING SOMETHING!
Ooone final comment. You want a crowd-funded game that's able to regain your spirit of crowd funding? Go play Shantae Half Genie Hero. If anything it just brings more shame at the fact these two were released similarly, and yet they're such a stark contract to the handling...
TerraformTrent Really? The game wouldn't necessarily make my top 10, but it was solid, had fantastic music, and was a TON of fun. Maybe we had different expectations, but it was... exactly what I thought it would be. And in my opinion, a great game.
I dont blame Platinum for Star fox Zero, id be willing to bet that it was Nintendo who forced them to add in those jank ass controls to make use of the game pad
Which Nintendo fans are you talking about? I keep hearing people say they would like a second Gamecube. The most succesful games on the Wii U doesn't force you to use the gamepad.
Nintendo _FANS_? No, He said Nintendo itself. Inserting Motion Controls for no other reason then to have Motion Controls since1 year after the release of the Wii.
There was this other guy who said Nintendo had gimmics becouse of fan demand. I wasn't replying to MrGaiakid but the other guy who has now deleted his comment.
Naveek Darkroom I saw it for PS4 at a grocery store for ten bucks a few months ago. I think it also said something about being able to play it on PS3 and PS Vita. Still didn't get it XD
Wait, how could Mirror's Edge: Catalyst be on the list if the reason is because it was released before E3 started and had little to no advertising for it? You didn't even give any sort of reason why it's supposedly bad. What the heck? And for the record, I for one didn't forget about that game's release.
He stated that the game was pretty paint by numbers as far as games go though he more elaborated its more an entry for EA for botching the game's release by releasing it at one of the worst times cause they had no faith (no pun intended) in it
Keiji Johnson Game isn't that bad as Jared made out to be. If you were the fan of the original, you'll find things to like, though I certainly agree that game overall was disappointing.
Hemang Chauhan I had my expectations set reasonably. I knew that it was going to be a prequel, open-world, have more emphasis on parkour and have a lack of guns to use. I got all that after playing it on the week of its release, and enjoyed it quite a lot. Though playing it again on the Xbox One is frustrating since it had some glitches that I never came across on the PS4 version, mostly the whole game constantly going black upon reaching certain areas.
Altoryu I have to admit that delaying the game a week before that year's E3 was reckless on their part. But it's more of a bad move on EA's end more than something that's worth making it one of the worst games of the year. If that's the case, he might as well have made this a top eleven and added Titanfall 2 on the list for suffering the same fate as ME: Catalyst
The Last of Us was a mediocre "by the numbers" third person action game with dogshit gameplay and he gave it a 10/10 and called it one of the BEST games of 2013. Then again, it came out during a time when people were riding Sony's nuts for maintaining the status quo with the PS4, praising the game out of spite toward Microsoft. I even remember reading someone's comment about how they "traded in" their 360 with all their games and got a PS3 with The Last of Us bundled out of spite toward Microshit. No doubt the adrenaline rush they got while playing that turd, which was brought on by their excitement for the PS4, deluded them into enjoying it more than they would've now.
I liked the game a lot, i even think is the best game on Wii U in 2016 (haven't played FExSMT) mainly because of replay value, music and i had no problems with the controls, yet i can see the flaws it has and i can see the control system being unnecesary, i hope they patch it soon ;(
also tmnt wasn't bad either it's hypocritical to say it's bad when you say Bayonetta is good, and revengence, and devastation... it's just platinum's style.
Tmnt had a lot of flaws. Yeah, you see the platinum style, and all... But you also see the activision style of rushing the game to be released in a bad form. It had potential, but activision made it fail. Kind of like the legend of korra game.
Gotta hand it to Platinum, they were definitely targeting the kids audience when they made TMNT: MiM but that being said, it's not a horrible game. Would I buy it again? No not likely but if I ever had kids that are into video games it might be worth getting for super cheap
Never bought MN9, though I do have a shirt and a signed poster of the game. I have the poster in front of my bed, so every time I wake up I think to my self "Never Forget."
Anti-Call of Duty crybabies shout,"Where's Infinite Warfare?" Seriously though, if you wanna play a good Mega Man-like game, check out the Azure Striker Gunvolt series. U won't regret it.
Joash Sanchez I enjoyed it. But for the multiplayer I tried it, it was bad. But they added BOTG game mode it was hell a lot of fun. Just have to remove the unfair weapons
Obviously gaming is in a downward spiral that will culminate in the release of E.T 2 and the onset of thermonuclear war that annihilates the world as we know it.
You should give the Nier Automata demo a try then... because it really is freaking amazing. Easily a game of the year contender for me over most of the games you listed.
***** That's too bad, I thought everything about it was beyond great but to each his own. Easily my most anticipated game this year so far (with Persona 5).
lol the game isn't even out and you're calling it GotY? I swear gamers are too damn stupid why are you guys always falling for the hype? Maybe it'll suck balls. Nier was average at best what makes this one any better? We're judging games based on demos now?
Um...multiplayer Metroid isn't a bad idea. Federation Force wasn't special, but at least MP Hunters and MP2 were done very well in terms ot multiplayer.
@@coolguy02536 Metroid FF Wouldn't Be Called Bad If It Wasn't Called Metroid It Is A Good Game Maybe You Really Do Hate The Game Or You're Just Riding The Hate Bandwagon
When I play Shantae Half Genie Hero, a beautiful kickstarted game that cost about $800,000 to make... I start to feel really bad about Mighty No. 9 backers.... and then I start laughing at them, for giving Inafune money. Back Way Forward and Matt Bozon next time instead.
Ah, I just finished that. It was fun, but some parts of it felt a bit too exploitable, like using the bat dance to completely skip the platforming in the magic carpet race. Also, I got way too much health, to the point where I was just tanking bosses. I hope they put in a new difficulty setting or something. It felt kind of unbalanced in my favor.
Also in that same year EA botched up another game release, Titanfall 2, between Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty Infinite Warfare release dates. Good thing it's considered a great game.
Hey ProJared, I just recently got into the Final Fantasy franchise and was wondering if you could make a vid on your top ten final fantasy games, so I know which ones I should play next
"Our game has an entire UUUUNIVERRRRSE to explore! And if you're impressed at how big our game is, just wait until we tell you what you can do in this vast universe!" *silence* ~Jim Sterling
I actually rather liked Mirror's Edge: Catalyst. The controls felt extremely smooth, the gameplay was a ton of fun, and while the fighting got a bit repetitive and the characters were somewhat flat, the parkour felt really fluid and the physics engine as a whole was great. There were no bugs that I could find, the side missions were fun and challenging, the collectibles were fun to find, and the player-created races and time trials were a blast. As an original Mirror's Edge fan, I'd give it a 7/10 on the Angry Joe rating scale. EA did drop the ball on its marketing, though.
They seemed to do that with two games last year actually: Mirror's Edge Catalyst and Titanfall 2. The latter was arguably the best fps game to come out of 2016, yet they released it the week between when Battlefield 1 and Infinite Warfare came out, thus dooming it from the start.
DJay Phresh I understand that its not on the best games of 2016 because its not bad according to this the division is a better game than mirrors edge catalyst like why?
They did prove one thing though, its hard as hell to make a good or great game based off a cartoon. Although the old trilogy was pretty good. The RPG-es gameplay suits the series.
+Jarod Obando This year's best game HAS to be Botw tbh, and with the Nintendo Switch coming, its very likely that we are going to get a ton of other fantastic games this year as well
“I’ve never seen a player base drop off quite like No Man’s Sky.” I’m from the future and we have a game called Law Breakers. Also Battleborn would like to have a word with you.
i'm amazed on how many reviewer didn't see that you can change the view on star fox zero between the TV or gamepad (cockpit view on TV i mean)... sure the game is still the same, not that great, but the experience is WAAAAY better that way, at least to me!
It's like Keiji Inafune didn't get a fucking memo on how to make a game like Mega Man! That or he _did_ get the memo and he just took it and WIPED HIS _FUCKING ASS_ WITH IT AND THREW IT AT OUR FACES!
I really wanted Bombshell to be good. An over-the-top topdown shooter with Duke Nukem/Doom style crazy weapons with a heavy metal soundtrack and a half-cybernetic badass female protagonist? I'll have me some of that! But you let me down Bombshell. You let us all down. God damnit.
Good point about Mirror's Edge. I remember back in July I randomly thought "when is Mirror's Edge 2 supposed to come out" just to find out its been out for 2 months already.

If you're ever feeling down, just remind yourself that you will never fail as hard as Mighty No 9 did.

Wow. I think everybody in history actually forgot Umbrella Corp existed. That's quite impressive
The worst part is is that it actually is canon. The umbrella Corps guys are the ones who dropped off Chris Redfield in Resident Evil 7.
FLAAAAA, Jirard says Star Fox was good but not Jared says it's bad. WHO DO I TRUST MORE!!!!
Logan Werling The problem is the atrocious controls. Everything is alright
They're both right. It's subjective opinion.
More like "top ten most disappointing games of 2016"
nah, worst is correct.
Not even close. Have you SEEN some of the garbage on Steam? These games wouldn't even break the top 50.
a garbage game that dies alone in the darkness isn't a bad game, its just a cash grab that failed.
you kinda have to ignore most steam games since they are nothing but crap designed to sell trading cards. also, every game on the worst list would be from steam and they would all basically be the same.
Dillon Bullock He doesn't do mobile games, and it doesn't matter if it's Nintendo. No exceptions.
Mighty No. 9...oh boy, I was just starting to completely forget that game was a thing. Time to go cleanse my mind of that travesty by playing Shovel Knight again.
Cam TriforceMan Not enough. Play Shante Half-genie hero to fully erase it from your memories.
In WayForward we trust.
Manuel Alberto Romero Amen to that!
Cam TriforceMan I got a GameCube for Christmas.
Cam TriforceMan objectively shovel knight is a far worse game then mighty number 9
I didn't even know Bombshell was a game that existed.
Lucas Lionhead I didn't know Homefront existed
Can't wait to see more
Jack Rabbit this hasnt aged well
@@xiamer7290 And suddenly it aged perfectly.
Wait, there was a Mirror's Edge sequel?
Though I guess that was kinda the comment point.
If anything it just brings more shame at the fact these two were released similarly, and yet they're such a stark contract to the handling...
pre sequel PREQUEL
I actually bought it, the game's good. But I can agree with Jared putting it on this list if only for the marketing bullshit it went through.
I heard the Crypt of the Necrodancer music at the beginning and got scared that it would be on the list. Thanks for scaring me.
It came out in 2015. I would be surprised to see that on anyone's worst list. XD
Animefan8050 Honestly the games that came out in 2015 and 2016 were a giant blur to me LOL. 2016 just felt like an extension of 2015. My bad.
Vesta Blackclaw OH MY GOD ITS FROM CRYPT OF THE NECRODANCER. THANK YOU. This was haunting me
Crypt of the NecroDancer would be on my Most Disappointing Games I Played in 2016 list, personally.
TerraformTrent Really? The game wouldn't necessarily make my top 10, but it was solid, had fantastic music, and was a TON of fun. Maybe we had different expectations, but it was... exactly what I thought it would be. And in my opinion, a great game.
I cannot express how these videos are marvelous !
I remember when he made the 2015 and 2014 Worst Games, time is so fast.
Fearch 93
Oh.
Fearch 93 you are completely incorect. The best games did require the use of the game pad.
I'm glad I didn't invest any money in Mighty No. 9.
Naveek Darkroom I saw it for PS4 at a grocery store for ten bucks a few months ago. I think it also said something about being able to play it on PS3 and PS Vita. Still didn't get it XD
I got it free. I like it. I have fun playing it, and I come back to it every now and then.
Another one that makes me sad. This should’ve been awesome.
They have video games in Equestria?
2009 was seven years ago!?

Didn't know we already have 2019.
We have a time traveler on our hands.

Terran Nobody HOLY CRAP! Time does fly!

Took me 10 minutes to get use to Star Fox Zero's controls.
...
Yes I'm saying I'm better than you.

TheDuckClock No.
Professor Tech Yes actually. The controls are super easy and I feel like you have to be broken as a person not to get them.
neoepochx Damn, you sound so bad ass.
Do you want a medal or something?
I am so sad the Starfox Zero is on this list... I really wanted it to be good.
God I tried so hard to like that game. Hopefully nintendo can get their shit together for a good sequel.
I liked the game a lot, i even think is the best game on Wii U in 2016 (haven't played FExSMT) mainly because of replay value, music and i had no problems with the controls, yet i can see the flaws it has and i can see the control system being unnecesary, i hope they patch it soon ;(
So sad that now Nintendo will have an excuse that Starfox64 didn't do well and never release another starfox game again.

But it isn't.
I had a great time with it, but it bounced people hard.
I bet the No. 9 devs are crying like anime fans on prom night.
I kinda like star fox zero...
also tmnt wasn't bad either it's hypocritical to say it's bad when you say Bayonetta is good, and revengence, and devastation... it's just platinum's style.
besides kids eat up the ninja turtles.
Nether let's plays Same here, doesn't mean it's good though
It’s kinda funny that No Mans Sky actually turned out really good in the end. The release was fucked though
it's kinda like what happened to FF14
For me it was too little too late, I have already moved on to better games after the fact
Never bought MN9, though I do have a shirt and a signed poster of the game. I have the poster in front of my bed, so every time I wake up I think to my self "Never Forget."

Jared cant turn his swagger off.
Drew W don't blame him. It's not like he break a love that never was there.
So many games on this list made me think "That came out THIS year?!"
Anti-Call of Duty crybabies shout,"Where's Infinite Warfare?"
Seriously though, if you wanna play a good Mega Man-like game, check out the Azure Striker Gunvolt series. U won't regret it.
kenterminatedbygoogle i played it and i did regret it.
What? Most of the people that hate infinite warfare were cod fans...

Wow, Infinite Warfare sucked?
kenterminatedbygoogle Multiplayer with boost jump, yes.
Campaign and zombies, no.
Joash Sanchez I enjoyed it. But for the multiplayer I tried it, it was bad. But they added BOTG game mode it was hell a lot of fun. Just have to remove the unfair weapons
"EVERY GAME SUCKS...EXCEPT THE GOOD ONES" Jared,Pro - 2017
Love you, Jared! Here’s to 1M.
"2016 sucked for games!" - You say that line (or something similar) for like almost every year.
"2014 sucked for games!"
"2013 sucked for games!"
The Pixel Polygon Lol in his top list he said "2016 wasn't a great year, but IT WAS AN AMAZING YEAR FOR GAMES"
He does it for comedy purposes.

Obviously gaming is in a downward spiral that will culminate in the release of E.T 2 and the onset of thermonuclear war that annihilates the world as we know it.
2014 was pretty bad. that's why the massively disappointing Dragon Age 3 was so highly praised. THERE WAS NOTHING ELSE
Two Platinum games on the list? Well, at least they're gonna redeem themselves with the obvious GotY this year.
FFVII Remake in 2017? You're a bit too optimistic.
You should give the Nier Automata demo a try then... because it really is freaking amazing. Easily a game of the year contender for me over most of the games you listed.
***** That's too bad, I thought everything about it was beyond great but to each his own. Easily my most anticipated game this year so far (with Persona 5).
because I think it deserves more then "I liked it" :P
lol the game isn't even out and you're calling it GotY? I swear gamers are too damn stupid why are you guys always falling for the hype? Maybe it'll suck balls. Nier was average at best what makes this one any better? We're judging games based on demos now?
**cough*that one multiplayer Metroid game*cough**
Ltcodypuff Did you forget that prime 2 had multiplayer? no! Also federation force is acthually really good!
Um...multiplayer Metroid isn't a bad idea. Federation Force wasn't special, but at least MP Hunters and MP2 were done very well in terms ot multiplayer.
Uhh, Prime 2’s multiplayer was cool. And it was a tiny sidemode.
Whereas here, it’s solely advertised as a bad chibi multiplayer mess.

That transition from the last video into this one was grand!
Here for the Jared redemption ARC
Hey ProJared, I just recently got into the Final Fantasy franchise and was wondering if you could make a vid on your top ten final fantasy games, so I know which ones I should play next
No, I didn't start the franchise with ffxv. The only game I've played so far is ffx
Have you forgotten X? That's a bit like a turn-based RPG.
***** No, not in FFX.

I loved Mirror's Edge.
Me too. but Catalyst was shit
CaptinHavoc1 did play catalyst, but I enjoyed the original mirror's edge
Didn't*
ye; I love the original game, but I haven't played catalyst
Poopy Joe Don't, it isn't good.
DJay Phresh yeah we get it you disagree with jared
When Jared says 2009 is 7 years ago... Ah... My heart.... I'm getting older.
"Umbrella Corps. has nothing to do with Resident Evil"
Well shit, I guess Capcom was preparing everybody for "Resident Evil" 7.
BlackChapters except Re7 was actually good.
BlackChapters RE 7 has a residence, and there's evil inside it. That's about as Resident Evil as you can get.
God, that stare during the intro is intense.

+Ant Amaya Really repetitive. It could honestly be a good game if it wasn't for that or the bad story. The bending is fun though
Yeah I hear it's pretty good...AFTER you beat it. Because then you can replay with all your powers and it's suddenly fun.
They did prove one thing though, its hard as hell to make a good or great game based off a cartoon.
Although the old trilogy was pretty good. The RPG-es gameplay suits the series.
Here's to hoping that next year's list isn't a top 20.
I hope it's a top/bottom 40
+Jarod Obando This year's best game HAS to be Botw tbh, and with the Nintendo Switch coming, its very likely that we are going to get a ton of other fantastic games this year as well
