The title "Opiate" is in reference to the Marx quote, "Religion is the opiate of the masses".

    • @hunglikeahamster3248
      @hunglikeahamster3248 3 месяца назад

Funny how Marx just wanted to become the new opiate of the masses. Apparently it's pretty easy to do if you're a demagogue wannabe. You just diss the older demagogues but try not to immediately be obvious about your intentions to be the new drug, the new demagogue, with the way to think, the way to be - the new therapy that will fix you and everyone else as long as you believe and follow everything we tell you. (cough)

@@Tsureiki I had no idea this was even a thing. Overly Woke Gemini is now in control or what? Yeah, I certainly said nothing whatsoever that should or would have offended some AI's PG sensibilities or tolerances to the remove it level.
I just criticized this particular whole reaction thing itself here. Might've been a bit cold, but it was civil and even a bit indirect, honestly. And last I knew, PG7 opinions were allowable things to have anyway. I've said all kinds o' worse non-PG7 things elsewhere on YT in places where, you know, a lot of people would just be like that. And are. In a good expletive-loose way. 😂 And none of that ever gets flagged and removed.
So that's gone and who knows why or how, I suppose. Looked like it had made it there. And then a bit later, poof. Not anymore. Oh well... Not sure what I learned here, but, something, that's for sure. 🤣
Might depend on whether or not those that put up YT content are able remove any specific comments they wish to on their content. And if not, then I fully retract the implications of my influencers remark and apologize. But not for the stuff that disappeared. 🤣

7:20 ' Blind me with your light now' , is such a great metaphor for giving up control blindly without critically thinking about the message you're following , one of my favorites saying is ' Its fine to open your eyes to the light, just don't be blinded by it' Its similar to the movie Dogma, where a fallen angel uses the story of the Walrus and the Carpenter from Alice in Wonderland to parallel Western and Eastern religions and how they Devour the masses

The gaping lotus experiment is the end of the EP. All Tool albums have stranges experimental tracks (most at the end). I think they are there to leave you with a feeling of "what the heck did I just hear?" This one seems to balance the very heavy tone from the previous track with a lighter one. They do consider the album experience.

The Gaping Lotus Experience is just them messing around in the studio. Just a jam they added as an Easter Egg at the end of the EP. You need to understand that Maynard is a huge troll, and even though his lyrics are legit, they're still human and were still having fun when they first started out. I mean the name alone should explain it's just them messing around, like the songs "Disgustipated", and "Maynard's Dick". Just them making noise and improvising lyrics.

5:46 You need to review Jung. In your profession you can’t afford to have the “ick” about anything. Only way to know what’s in the shadow is to explore it, understand it, allow it to pass through you, and then only you will remain. Just because it’s an atrocity doesn’t excuse a flinch. Moreover it demands an understanding.

When Opiate was recorded, “hidden tracks” were a thing. The Gaping Lotus Experience was a hidden track that started at 7:05, or ‘6 minutes and 66 seconds’. 666, get it? Anyway, they also had a hidden track on the Undertow album. In that case, after Flood ends (track 11?). The track count climbs per second until track 69(get it?). At which point, Disgustipated plays. THEN, when Disgustipated ends, a spoken word poem is heard over crickets.
Aenima got a pass, but there is also a hidden track at the end of Lateralus.

      From Riri: @scottmayo7545 Hi there,
I'm sorry to hear that you are abdicating with alcohol for such a long time. It seems that it might be easier to just give in when we don't want to maybe be present, or when we are in a situation that we rather not think about it. Being under the influence of alcohol can give us an excuse to say that it was not fully ourselves in certain moments. But, in this way it's like we are running from what's inside us, and we rather not try to fix and heal ourselves because it can be scary. It might be a long journey but you can make it. If you really want it and are willing to fight for freeing yourself from this abdication, you can. And you don't have to carry this burden anymore. We are here if you ever feel like talking about anything.
      I wish you the best!

@@aoischmidt I could not find the Link either sorry 😔 but I clearly remember her being shocked at the end of the song. I'm not sure how therapy would be applied for that song tbh. It's clearly about a suffocating relationship, it's disasterous outcome and it's fantasized ending. Good release for getting out your anger. Doesn't everyone want the ability to scream like Maynard? Maybe I'm mistaken and she didn't review 🤔🤷🏻‍♀️ I'm down for a second go at it 😃

I'd be interested in your analysis of Potions by Puscifer. I was rocking out to it for a while when a friend asked me why i listened to it since it described my life. Then I realized how heart beeaking the lyrics are.

This song about mental illness i wrote tonight was inspired by the song 7 Years by Lukas Graham. I hope it helps someone.
Well, its a big big task, but everyday i get a little better. Sculpt the life i want out of the rubble that i rose from soon ill be sitting this spot with family at my back and i will not be lonely soon ill be here to shout out i fought my demons and i survived them. Once i was so scared that I, never got any words or hugs from anyone, that pain i thought would never go away and if it did what would i be then. All i saw was pain and felt like i kept falling, everyone told me just to start my journey climbing, when i asked for rope, nobody threw one. Once i hit the bottom i stayed there for a long long while, while everyone else moved past me. I had to grow down there so i could fight my demons. I dug a step then two and slowly things got better. Everyone has struggles that they carry and think they cant unburden but here i am today, im sitten at the park out with my family. Everything turned around and soon i started believing. I saw the good again and everyone was open. Though i never asked i always wondered, why you never threw a rope while i was fallen.

I just had flashbacks on some of the best times of my life. Just wow.... it's unreal how powerful music can be to unlock memories from the distant past... My friends and I had a band, and during a school ''Winter Carnival'' event we played this song in front of the entire school and the parents. It was our senior year, and we were the big dogs of the school, arrogant and cocky as ever. The teachers and parents were mortified by the lyrics and we were suspended for the last three days of class before Christmas break, and it ended up starting our Christmas break early. We all just hung out together at my house the whole time because my parents were on vacation. We smoked weed, pounded Red Bull's and Mountain Dew, ordered out pizza and Chinese every day with our parent's credit cards, and twice we even went across the border to Quebec (Canada) and went to a Hell's Angels coke bar money laundering strip club. Nobody in that strip club ever gave us any problems even though we were 16-17 when we started going there. They said it was better for them if we were there because they liked to appear busy to justify the laundered money-income. The Hell's Angels were the coolest people ever. We could barely understand each other because they speak French over there, but we made it work. The bar owner gave us a bunch of condoms and told us they would pay the strippers for 2 hours and gave us several rooms in the motel. There were 4 of us, and 4 strippers/hookers and we had to sit there and argue with each other about which girl we each got, but it ended up being the craziest night in all of our lives... At school, all our friends were treating us like celebrities lol.. and all of that was 100% directly because we played this song on the stage!! :)

Fair reading and always love your reactions; but I'd also suggest that the reading about abdicating self-efficacy removes culpability from those preying on that tendency towards abdication (especially when the ideology actively promotes adbication!)

We definitely all have “opiates” in our life. If it isn’t a drug specifically it’s something else that we allow ourselves to be addicted to. For many it’s social media and these little devices (one of which I am typing on at this exact moment…I know it’s one of my opiates) called smart phones. For many it’s exactly what Maynard was calling out, organized religion and the people who preach it and ask you to blindly follow.

This song was definitely a testament to the anger Maynard felt towards organized religion. That anger has matured, if not necessarily softened, since then. The points he makes remain valid, but he's grown into a slightly less combative way of communicating them.

Please notice this for his context of his harsh word in this song!!!
Oi, as a huge Tool fan myself, who finds this song quite beautiful as one of their first releases (I'm glad you checked this one out) your disturbance at his using r**e in the one line (typical Maynard), it too has bothered me & taken away from the song. However, getting to understand things more, think of it like this:
Many words have multiple meanings. R**e is no different, and in this context can be thought of as taking possession of someone to do with as you please, and to beat & plunder you to utter exhaustion. He alludes to needing someone strong to guide you... strong guidance via r....
Hopefully this opens your mind to the interpretations therein!
