    I Mean no copyright, I just think this scene is too important not to be seen as it says a lot about why Hvitserk later converted and about Alfred’s feelings to Hvitserk and Ivar.

    Damn they should have kept this scene. When I watched the finale I couldn't stop feeling like Ivar's death was kind of a waste and just a way to give an ending to the series, I felt like Ivar throw his life away because he didn't know what else to do with it which didn´t made that much sense to me since I felt he had grown as a person since Kiev, and he had just started to be in true control of himself and his life for the first time. But now with this scene I finally get that he did it to put an end to the battle and save Hvitserk which makes his sacrifice so much meaningful.

      Most Of Your Thoughts Are Right But The Main Reason Of IVAR'S Death Was Because Of His İllness, And So Far He Knew That His Time Was Short And The Only Way To Reaching Valhalla Was To Die In The Battlefield With +Saving His Brothers Life Of Course, But In The End When Ivar Said That He Is Afraid He Didn't Mean The Death But Being Forgotten.

  • @HaoPieldeoso

    Ivar's death was not only to save Hvitserk, but to save the last remaining goodness in his soul. His death redeemed him by saving his brother and ending the war. And through the ashes of his remains, a new alliance is born for the sake of peace and prosperity. This scene exemplifies that no matter how low you go. There is always the chance for you to make the right choice on your next move.

    Ahhh , we’ll this makes much more sense with regards to the wife’s attitude, when Ivar and Alfred proposed to stop the war to spare all their men , Alfred turned to his wife but she gave him a nod to continue with the war … so the way she speaks here makes much more sense ( who wouldn’t want to stop an unnecessary war ? - well apart from the part where they tried to kidnap her, she tries to make them pay for it , for having tried to snatch her , so her words are much more acerbic than the husband. It Also explains a bit more why Hvitserk converted and had to renounce his former life and why the wife was SMIRKING at him during the ceremony. This was also her personal victory over the Vikings by taking away everything that made Hvitserk what he was.

    Alfred is right, they are not savages!
    Yeah they have horrible rituals, they blood eagle people and they sacrifice their own kind for the gods!
    But the thing is Christians aren’t any better!
    Every single time Vikings and the English make peace, the Vikings settle down for a while and after that the English just slaughter them!
    All they wanted was for their people to settle down with their families and live in peace.
    Ivar saved Hvitserk by sacrificing himself so his brother could live! But he still was afraid in the end, but he still did it.
    Eathelred literally conspired against Alfred and wanted to kill him because he was to greedy! Eventually he died because of that.
    Elsewith is a real b*tch in this scene, she literally fucked Bjorn and Alfred doesn’t know about it!🤷‍♂️
    Having brothers can be very annoying!
    But most of those brother relationships are very strong. Like Ivar and Hvitserk’s bond! Brothers will do anything to protect one another, they would kill, lie and die for eachother! I myself have 2 brothers and a sister and I would literally do anything for them.
    Alfred knows exactly what is feels like to have a brother, all tho his brother betrayed him, he still weeped for him! I still remember what he said to him “Hail and farewell brother, hail and farewell” even if your halfbrothers you can still have a significantly strong bond with eachother! That’s what I love about having siblings, all tho we scream at eachother or yell at eachother we love one another more then anyone or anything else. If anyone would dare to hurt me my siblings would come to me straight ahead and I would do the same thing in return.
    If I had to choose to let my siblings die or sacrifice myself to save them! I wouldn’t hesitate for a sec to sacrifice myself to save them.
    Sorry if you had a rough time to read all this, thx tho❤️

      I love your comment and you insights. I think Alfred and Hvitserk would have gotten along just perfectly. We know from Vikings Valhalla they did succeed in Alfred’s plan for peace as a beautiful Norse settlement came from it, where Saxon and Pagan lived side by side for over one hundread years. The thing here is Alfred believes he has somebody on his hands who is like Ivar. He has seen Hvitserk before in action, you can often see Alfred in the background watching Hvitserk fight in season 6. During season 5 in York, Hvitserk was dangerously close to Alfred in the heat of battle. Alfred knows Hvitserk is lethal on the battlefield so he has every right to believe this brother is just as cruel as Ivar - only we all know Hvitserk is much gentler and sensitive. I wonder how long it took Hvitserk to tear up once at the Villa and for Alfred to see it, Alfred must be quite confused when he sees this Viking he has captured is actually kind of sensitive rather than blood thirsty. All you have to do is watching two scenes to see the change. Alfred when he is talking to Hvitserk and inviting him back to the villa. Alfred’s eyes are all stern, he’s putting on an act as king, looking at Hvitserk unblinking, very assertive … and then when Hvitserk converts Religion, Alfred looks at him as if he were a puppy, a totally different way of looking at him. To rename him Athelstan is a big deal for Alfred, hes not just going to give anybody that name or make himself godfather of just any one (he didn’t do that for Ubbe and also Ubbe was done in a river, while Hvitserk got the fancy chapel treatment) so clearly Alfred had a connection with him by then. I imagine they were very close in almost no time. They both have lost their entire family, seen their loved ones die right in front of their eyes, they both feel weak and have doubts, they both would rather not fight and I’d imagine Alfred would be only too happy to give Hvitserk a hug here and there, look how he was with Æthelred (the hug Alfred give him convinced him not to kill Alfred imo, Æthelred was going to right up until that hug) and we know Hvitserk likes physical effection from Ubbe and his other brothers.

      Hvitserk says he could never have killed Ivar either. He says the seer got it wrong - the seer told him either he would kill Ivar or Ivar would kill him - which was correct in a way, but the death came from love. Ivar died to save Hvitserk as they love each other, so the seer was wrong. Hvitserk then thanks Ivar for saving him, that he was everything to Hvitserk and says he is so proud of him 😢 x

Plenty of pagan religions give their honor and respect to these Ancient gods of the Babylonian Kingdom. They are all over the planet Earth to wreak havoc on human beings. Whoever prays to them.

      It’s hard to judge. Yes and no.
      He went onto the battlefield when he seen Hvitserk getting badly hurt, he told Hvitserk to get off the battlefield and then was stabbed to death when they both tried to retreat. If he wasn’t on the battlefield he wouldn’t have died, so in a way he did sacrifice his life for Hvitserk, however it can also be said Ivar chose to end it there and go to Valhalla while he was at the top of his game, he was also in a lot of pain and he suffered greatly for it, he wanted to go to Valhalla, not die in his bed.

    • @jamiemutatenow4245
      @jamiemutatenow4245 2 года назад +33

      Yes, he gave his life for Hvitserk. As already said he chose to die in battle to reach Valhalla but he hobbled across the battlefield to get to his brother and take his place in battle. When Ivar fell and Hvitserk ran to his aid, Ivar said 'Not today.' He knew that when he died, Hvitserk and other viking warriors would live. Like in chess. The king dies, the game is over. Alfred also says clearly that Ivar died for Hvitserk. In the end they all underestimated Ivar. Now Hvitserk's fate begins. He will indeed achieve something the others didn't. He became the first king of England. Unfortunately this is only hinted at due to the rushed Saxon Prince scene at the end. Ivar's 'One day this will all be ours.' quote will be fulfilled by Hvitserk.

      @@jamiemutatenow4245 Vikings isn't historically accurate but Hvitserk getting baptized and Alfred giving him the name Æthelstan happened in real life but it wasn't Hvitserk it was someone else called Earl Guthrum but is just made to be Hvitserk to fit with the story. Also, this Æthelstan became the King of East Anglia not the first king of England, that was also someone called Æthelstan but it was Edward the Elder's son (Æthelstan Edwardsson - also Alfred the Greats grandson). I can see where you would be mixed up though as Vikings is really shitty for historical accuracy and the history of everything back in those times is complicated enough lol.

    • @Andymidge10
      @Andymidge10 2 года назад +7

      also just to add that Hvitserk was actually called Halfdan 'Hvitserk' Ragnarsson and the Hvitserk part is just a nickname or the name of his new family house but there isn't much information on it. Hvitserk does translate to 'White Shirt' though so it is thought that it is perhaps like Ragnar Lothbrok where his second name is Sigurdsson but Lothbrok means 'shaggy breaches' as he apparently had magic trousers so he was given Lothbrok as a nickname like Ironside or Boneless. so perhaps Halfdan just wore a white shirt everywhere so he often got called by his nickname (Hvitserk).

      I need to watch them all again, but tbh most of the deleted scenes were not really that good or as long as this one, some are really random like Floki watching people dancing for ten seconds. There’s another longer scene but MGM posted that one, it has Ubbe talking about Flatnose. There’s no other Alfred scene other than this one, and the only other one with Hvitserk has him walking to a door, waiting outside and then walking away again when he hears Ivar talking to Igor and that’s only around 10 seconds long, they are very short, just edited out for time. They don’t really offer anything at all, but this one really does add more context, it’s sad they deleted it as it shows Alfred’s mindset with Hvitserk, and Elsewith’s distrust of him, as well as more Hvitserk with Ivar x
