      Almost Zen Lee Priest is an idiot, most pros agree that a workout should not exceed 45 minutes "FOR BODY PART " not for the whole workout, if you work 2 muscles = one hour and a half plus maybe and and cardio all together someone can spend 2 to 2 hours and a half in the Gym. Now, working out too much or too often is considered overtraining, old school bodybuilders overtrained that is why they are not as big as bodybuilders from these days, now another important thing is that it depends if you are a beginner, medium or advanced bodybuilder, either you are natural or on steroids, the frequency and lenght of the workouts depend on all of those factors, Lee Priest is the worst advisor I don't know how so many idiots gave him thumbs up on his B.S video.

    It's easy for pro bodybuilders to dismiss people who train for 60 minutes and get out of the gym as 'looking like shit'. When they themselves are full of gear and have incredible genetics. This is why you can't listen to any advice from these guys. By all means follow them for entertainment purposes.

      It depends also on how long do you rest between sets. It's not the same 1mn, 3mn or more .Many body builders need to rest a long time to recover. The bigger you are the more oxigen you need. Many of these guys have a bad cardiovascular endurance and a low aerobic capacity. It's why they gasp between sets.
      You can do a big amount of sets in one hour and kill your muscles.
      On my opinion the most important thing is to feel your muscle and not to lose the pump. If you start losing the pump you must stop.
      I saw huge guys training half an hour in the morning and half han hour in the evening + cardio.
      Every body is diferent.
      You must find what is the best for you.
      It depends also if you are on gear or natural.

    It pains me to say it, but this would be the only time I've every disagreed with Lee. The added recovery anabolics provide is the only *assured* way you could get great results from lengthy sessions. Some people do respond better to high volume naturally of course (we're all special snowflakes, lol), but at least from my end, I only started getting results when I kept it to an hour. Not only that, but how would you keep your pump? The blood doesn't stick around forever and after a while, it basically turns into cardio. The importance of anabolics providing in consistent growth as a bodybuilder literally cannot be overstated, it makes everything night and day. You really can experiment a lot more and still get gains. Ask anyone who has been on and then went off for a few years and they'll say the same thing.

    Lee Priest has superior genetics and has been training since he was a kid. In his teens his natural testosterone levels were very high then he went onto steroids so he's never known what it takes for an average guy to over train. When I was 17 I did intense 2 hour workouts 4 or 5 times a week and I was over training. Was knackered all the time and held back my progress.

Why? Because I was fucking eating everything I could get my hands on, went from 135lbs soaking wet to 240 in a year and a half. Got pretty chunky but god damn did I get strong and build a ton of muscle. Can blame your genetics all you want, but everyone I know who has a shit-mediocre physique and shit/mediocre numbers are all a part of the "wah wah my metabolism is so fast I just can't gain weight no matter how much I eat". Until you've bulked to 25-30% bodyfat, fuck off with that god awful attitude. It's only small guys who are terrified of getting a little fat who bitch about overtraining. Its really not that difficult, if your natural don't take advice from a steroid trainer. It really boils down to learning about your own body and knowing how to read how you feel. If you start a training cycle meant to peak in 12 to 15 weeks and you get a cold in 5 or 6 weeks or the muscles are still sore from the last time you trained them, and or your energy levels and strength levels are decreasing your over training. For any lifter but especially a natural lifter, you need to be as motivated about you diet as the lifting. You should be feeling full and strong and able to make small strength gains in training even its just 1 more rep in a work set. Forced reps and giant sets and super sets and going to failure should be minimized. No one should go to failure on every set, its stupid, I've never seen a pro or successful amateur for that matter go to failure on every set, failure is reserved for the last work set. Again if your muscles feel depleted and not getting a good pump and don't feel full and strong your over doing it.

  • @yewtewbstew547
    @yewtewbstew547 Год назад +3

    The main problem I have with the 45 minutes thing is that the rationale behind it is usually that you have a finite amount of energy to put into each workout (okay, makes sense), and that it is impossible or at the very least extremely difficult to work at a high level of intensity for a more prolonged period of time (also agree). But what people seem to overlook is that workout intensity is not static. The amount of time you can constructively train for is determined by the overall intensity, which is completely under your control.
    If you train squat, bench press and bent over row at RPE 8, and it takes you 45 minutes, you're probably pretty exhausted. And as a result, anything you try to do beyond that is likely to be undermined by said exhaustion. So you're done, time to go home. But if you train squat at RPE 8, then switch to training arm isolation movements for the remainder of your 45 minutes you're not going to be anywhere near as tired. On the contrary you'll probably feel quite well rested, and capable of continuing.
    This is why the typical "bodybuilder split" is structured with the higher intensity (typically heavier compound) movements at the beginning of a workout, and then tapers down into lower intensity ones. And it works. We know it works because people have been doing it with and without the assistance of PEDs for decades at this point.
    You can easily spend the first 45 minutes of a workout training squats at high RPE, then maybe finish on something like lunges and hamstring curls, then immediately go into a second 45 minutes where you "start" with bench press at a high RPE. Because by the time you get to bench pressing, most of the global fatigue built up during the squats has subsided. Not only is that perfectly doable, it is also effective, particularly for more hypertrophy and endurance specific goals. If your goal is to move as much weight as possible, then I would agree that a more time restrictive approach is probably preferable since you're pretty much exclusively going to be performing high intensity compound lifts. In that case 45 minutes makes sense. But universally? No.

    Ok.. Listen up Lee your wrong right here 1:05. Bodybuilding is about breaking down muslce tissue and repairing it. The sports your naming is about muscle memory and tactical training which is far different. Dude..1:33 Arnold was using gear which means he was in a anabolic state 24/7 all the time, so yes if he does that while on gear it will work but not for normal people who have protein synthesis for 24-36 hours. And that is hopefully if they trained hard enough to activate the protein synthesis. The amount of cortisol running in your bloodstream with three high volume trainings a day is ridiculous. No normal people off gear would ever build any muscle because the high levels of cortisol would block any protein synthesis within the small window of 24-36h. Please mate think about what your saying and that most of your audience is normal people who train.

    Some Wrestlers trained up to 8 hours a day (For the olympics Kurt angle did that)

    Russian/Bulgarian Weightlifters weren't unheard of training up to 6 hours.

    • @Ryan-qn1wr

      Because heavy weight lifting puts much more stress on your body than those sports do or at least a different type of stress. The human body is built more for endurance than brute strength.

    • @fudoshin009

    • @Ryan-qn1wr
      @Ryan-qn1wr 9 лет назад

      fudoshin009 You can only break the muscle down so much and the body has a limit. If I didn't have a job where I have to get up at 430 and work my ass off before lifting, and if I actually had the ability to sleep at night, then I could train longer. That's the main thing for me is sleep. The harder I lift, the harder it is for me to sleep afterwards. So, unfortunately I have to limit myself a bit.

    • @fudoshin009
      @fudoshin009 9 лет назад

      Ryan Casey you should shift your limits man ;) gradually, step by step. and later, after time, maybe you can slow down. just in this phase you can use such rules like 45 min maximum. but you must have experiences, skill, you can vary intensity, you have condition etc. every rule like this is for skilled people which can understand it. but people instead of hard training and gaining experiences just sitting on ass and try to avoid this problem virtually and theoretically. what is need at first is: just do it! then analyze it. improve it! and over and over again.

    • @fudoshin009
      @fudoshin009 9 лет назад +1

      Ryan Casey but i understand that sometimes are problems with job etc. but who has no problems? everybody is not professional sportsman or rentier. btw: i am almost all my life day sleeper (ofc usually mix of day and night shifts, actually i work just in nights). i know a lot of people very hard working out and working in shifts (including night shifts)so. btw2: it is documented that shorter sleep is better, you can divide it. rest 2 hours after job and then you can train ;) and when i did 12 hours day shifts i also got up early and came home tired but i usually train, sometimes in gym too. sometimes, when you feel tired you are not really tired, just pissed off :) and finally if you are in such situation it is wise to be flexible. you are not really in situation to become dorian yates. or if you want be, you should change your job man. i know what i am talking about, my passion for training determined whole my life not just job. you have to choose one and sacrifice an other thing, that's life...

    Natural bodybuilder here: even in my area of the sport, Priest is right. The problem is most people who get into bodybuilding are a terrible judge of "the line," so to speak, that separates overtraining from hard training. I'm usually working for 1.5 hours a day, six days a week (sometimes five if I have an especially brutal leg day). Not everyone can do that, and some people can do more. Impatience is the problem because people want results, but don't want to test to figure out their optimum training loads.

BUT we are all not the same, someone can get injured while doing this. THIS STYLE OF TRAINING REQUIRES A LOT OF SUBJECTIVE FEELING so you dont get injured. I repeat again do not try this insane "overtraining" for 3+ days in the beggining of your experiment. But on the other hand few people, very few, can finnish a musclegroup with 4-6 sets. It's very very hard, especially if you doesn't have a partner to help you with forced reps and so on. I personally has found out that around 50-60 min, 30-60sek rest gets me most focused and enables me to push myself were I need to go. John Råd Juvas Lee Priest is an idiot, most pros agree that a workout should not exceed 45 minutes "FOR BODY PART " not for the whole workout, if you work 2 muscles = one hour and a half plus maybe and and cardio all together someone can spend 2 to 2 hours and a half in the Gym.

    _45 minutes is crap..._ Well if we are talking IFBB level, yeah 45 min is nothing. If we are talking gym bro, different story. Your average gym bro is not trying to reach IFBB stats. And 2 hours plus driving to gym and so forth is a big daily time commitment for a hobbyist.

    I'd like to understand what goes on a loser's mind to come and spread hate and post crap on stuff they don't like or don't agree with. I mean why don't they go post good stuff on things they like or about people they like? You wanna be a loser and a lesser human being, fine! Be it! Just don't embarrass yourself and announce it publicly.

    Natty bodybuilding - no more than hour. Steroid bodybuilder - train for hours. Every one knows the harder you train the more calories you need so your not eating muscle. That's the problem with over training.

    Lee priest doesn't need all of these negative opinions from all the comments below. He's a very accomplished bodybuilder.... I didnt see any phil heath or jay cutler screen names in the comments so your opinions aren't worth shit. People always have an opinion and it seems to always be negative. Positive feedback is scarce it seems like the glass is half full concept is no longer a thing.

    Yet in other videos Priest says Arnie didn't train 2 or 3 times a day. He contradicts himself all the time. No wonder nobody believes much of what he says.

      I train at least 1,5 hour when not counting rest. With rest it is 20-30
      minutes or more depending on what muscle-group I am training and what
      intensity I intend to be training with.
      Also it depends on what split i am using. If training only chest or training chest and biceps which I often do, training only chest will take less time but more taxing on the chest and if I train chest and biceps then it takes about the same time but less strain on chest.
      The "heavy chest" workout is every other chest workout. That way chest gets a little bit of rest when "light" chest day comes but still gets the blood in there and keeps it active.
      Same principle goes for every other muscle for me. Overtraining is when you feel like shit and cant even power through a workout.
      If I feel good overall and have good energy when going to the gym then logically I am not overtraining.
      Now when I am free from work for 4 weeks i train everyday and go for walks and keeps active.
      When I work I rarely workout more than 5 times a week because I feel that when working I dont have the energy for it.
      This works for me but that is my personal experience and it might change when i get older as recovery time gets longer with age.

    Lee what do you think about people who use macro dieting in prep? Do you think they look as good as someone dieting with clean healthy food all meals? Shitty food = shitty body , my opinion.
