@trekker75 THe reason arm wrestlers cant straighten their arms is from 2 things.. Shortening of the bicep from constant training, then the elbow joint starts to become calcified. This is the term they call "bone lock".. Indeed, on top of constant stretching over time, Devon would need surgery to remove the calcium build up in his elbow. You can literally see, pre-surgery, Devon's elbow bone grow as he arm-wrestled over the years.
I really like Devon's personality when he isn't competing. He's very calming and inquisitive. I hope he's able to live pain-free with the tax his body has paid from a long career of arm-wrestling
I'm a professional dancer and I observed body mechanics for the last 30 years of my life, it's what I do every day. As someone that does bodywork: I'm a huge fan of body tempering. There are so many tools within that game and the systems are just complex enough; the special thing about all that weight is that it literally forces fluids through the fascia, ligament tendon and muscle body and skin. It really helps expose the elasticity that the joints may or may not have. And when you mix modalities like the flossing and tempering you get these really awesome adaptions. It's also really interesting getting young athletes that didn't care about the names of the muscles until suddenly they can feel the insertion point of the brachial radialis for an especially grizzly place between the lumbar and thoracic. Donnie mentioned his parents sleeping better. Woman with cptsd not able to get out of fight or flight for years did the lower back body tempering: when she got up to put on her shoes she just laid down on my sofa and fell asleep for 20 minutes. Being able to tap into the nervous system I've used expensive devices but nothing really does it to get deep into the back and release something you've been holding for years and not knowing it the way the body tempering does. Not for everyone but definitely the muscly, big and arthritic athletes it's as big of game changers as I've ever used.
@@DefeatLust @JoMomma239 not too long ago there was kind of a trend in everyone going against foam rolling. I won't go that far to say that it's useless but it sure isn't as body tempering. Has a body worker it is difficult to get people to buy into the idea of the pain that they will probably have to get into in the soft tissue to really help the problems they are having. To really get body tempering really on point you have to have a second person who has a pretty good idea of how to move the weight. Foam rolling a couple of very specific areas like the IT band and the stomach and the ribs can be super useful especially to get through initial pain. The most success I've had with foam rolling is actually to cut a really dense one in half like you would a sausage down the center and use it to be able to get better positions. I've also seen foam rollers in good places like the low back to be able to create some movement between each one of the spinal columns if you can get into the right position. With a lot of bodyworking modalities it's hard to do true studies because the same area that needs a little bit of mobilization in one person may need stiffining in another person even in the same joint. At the end of the day what they did with the flossing, wrapping the arm, and then using the heavy weight to force blood and other fluids through the fascia ligaments and tendons can be done in 10 minutes. or I could spend an hour and 3 sessions digging my thumbs and fingers in to try to be able to release the origin points and clear out the tissue. You see folks like Dr hightower using his thumbs nearly getting professional athletes who are used to paying nearly in tears. I work with much more general population who sometimes aren't even willing to walk to repattern the work I've done. For the regular weekday CrossFit athlete I would suggest getting yourself a floss band for like 20 bucks, a used lacrosse ball to be able to get in to the armpits and other tender places, a golf ball for the feet to roll those places out, a place to hang to decompress the spine and a good electrolyte to make sure there's enough minerals the hydration gets down deep in the tissues. A foam roller is nice especially to get tricky areas by yourself but it is totally not a panacea the way it was sold in the mid-2000s. My experience with other body workers are that if they do structural integration or rolfing you're going to really get the work you need done. Physical therapists are nice but so many times I have found that they're just clocking in for a paycheck especially if it's on insurance.
@@thetruemorg I read everything you wrote and really appreciate you sharing your knowledge. I can tell this is a passion and you know your stuff. That's rare to see. If we are following just basic science and recovery standards, Devon probably could have seen leaps in his performance if he had the money and proper means to have the stretching and muscle maintenance needed. Longevity always comes down to how well an athlete can reach peak conditions and how long they can maintain it. Devon is a freak athlete but probably could have surpassed that. It's insane to think about.

I got that exact same vibe - and honestly the whole time I was thinking this too. There's a place for it - because afterall, that's what humans do - we try things out, make a note of what affect it had, and we share our experiences. I'd imagine this technique of rolling could be beneficial in the right circumstances, but I think it could also be harmful for someone with injuries like Devon possibly
I personally don't see how having a heavy piece of wide metal would help when you're a guy that big pushing down. He says the roller is 140 something pounds, but no doubt it'd be easier to get a higher pressure on a smaller spot if he used a narrower roller. Having to roll it with your hands rather than with bearings causing uneven pressure and arm fatigue on the person performing it too. Few things seem a bit silly about it. But hey ho
shouts out to one of, if not the GREATEST ARM WRESTLER OF ALL TIME. He sacrificed his tendons, and ability to straighten his arms fully, to become the GOAT.
I had body tempering done on me a month or so back (before a strongman comp) and it was a crazy experience. At one point my whole body felt like it was vibrating, my head was up in the clouds and I was just singing to myself to cope.
Sounds similar to my first chiropractic adjustment lol. When my neck was cracked for the first time I started seeing crazy colors for a second and it almost felt like drugs
Must have been crazy painful for Devon, if you’ve seen him flex his bicep he has a golf ball sized knot right on top of it, he says the tightness helps him in arm wrestling.
Was thinking the exact same. Some of his power is in the fact that he can not straighten his arm. I'm not sure this is beneficial for him as an armwrestler.
This is decades of arm wrestling just constantly battered that man’s elbow joint without any rehab what a God. I’ve only been arm wrestling for 6 months but every after heavy pulls hurts although i do rehab myself but imagine Devon, he’s been through all that.
I have this fantasy that one day Devon will go through a huge journey with physical therapy and fully recover the range of motion in his elbows. Watching him straighten his arms would feel soooooo good.
He likely has so much osteoclast development at this point, that position is “straight” for him. The joint is simply structurally different at this point.
These exercises kicked my butt! Question for you... have you ever used Next Level Diet? I got a custom meal plan for muscle-building from them and I love it.
if you can’t extent your elbows, it looks painful. I had it. I did 1 year of tricep training only, and that cured my elbows. Feels like your olecranon joint keeps on growing, so you can’t stretch your elbows anymore.
Here is where I’m going to start my journey. I’m going use your encyclopedia of information you have posted here, to better myself. More specifically my body. Thank you Juji and Devon. I have just been observing for a long time and I think it’s time to start building my arsenal.
This is really interesting because it's playing very close to current practice in physical therapy. I could have used this on my legs after some mean workouts during physical therapy.
This has literally no scientific evidence to support its efficacy. Common sense tells you this is nonsense (Orthopedic PT and exercise physiologist here).
"I was special forces." Of course I think I read that issue Wolverine, great to see you hit that growth spurt from 5'3" to 6'2". Good on you James Howlett.
When I work out biceps a lot and they get sore, i get like Devon, I literally can't even straighten my arms out. It's sooo painful, I can only imagine how Devon feels after years of his arms being like that.
Staring at Devon's body, I have wondered what would happen if he address his muscle imbalances and used more GPP and restorative modalities in his training. I watched his sparring with Prudnyk, and I believe if Devon addressed some training issues and targeting weak spots, he becomes #1 hvywt in the world.
Devon’s has the same issue affecting him that John Brzenk has, and that’s time. It catches up with everyone. I wish John had been in his prime during this period when arm wrestling has much more attention, but that’s just not how things work.
yeah IF Devon supplemented with power lifting from an earlier age he would be heavier by default and probably able to move quite a bit more weight with his arms and be even better but he is past that point.
If you guys have ever had even a 45lb bar on your quads, you will understand just how painful this must be. It is the "good" type of pain, but my god, is it a LOT of it.
Seeing Devon's arms get straighten is kinda oddly satisfying.

But hey ho
You could do a whole series on getting devons arm worked on by different professionals
Just needs a bunch of construction guys and a few welders
Devon looks like logan (wolverine)
The fact that Donnie is in your gym excites me, looking forward to more content with him, what a great human !
shouts out to one of, if not the GREATEST ARM WRESTLER OF ALL TIME. He sacrificed his tendons, and ability to straighten his arms fully, to become the GOAT.
Devon, Eric and juji and Antoine need to start a band called FLESH TENSION
9:00 This is what everyone looking for 😂
I had body tempering done on me a month or so back (before a strongman comp) and it was a crazy experience. At one point my whole body felt like it was vibrating, my head was up in the clouds and I was just singing to myself to cope.
Did it help any? It seems like it would be great for MMA training as well.
It's great no matter what.
Devon is like taking your farm animal to the vet
Lol
These gusy are great together. Hope to see Juji & Devon having more fun in the future
Please make a straighten Devon Arms series😂😂
Random Fact: The bones seen at 0:06 are infact taken from Elden Ring's Human Bone Shard's item thumbnail. Enjoy your day.
I agree that hes the most f'ed up athlete. Hes so freaking stiff. I was hoping to see the miracle of him fully extending his arm.
I really enjoy the mix of people you bring together
Devon asking if he wanted to roll dude out was so funny.
Due to Devon's chronic over use, he would probable need multiple session of light treatment to get most benefit on his arms.
Gotta love that Wolverine is a fictional character and Devon legit is Wolverine/Sabertooth in appearance.
Devon is channeling the wolverine very nicely
"The whole 'relax' order? I was having a hard time complying..."
That right there made me burst out laughing. These guys are great.
These exercises kicked my butt! Question for you... have you ever used Next Level Diet? I got a custom meal plan for muscle-building from them and I love it.
This is the first time I've ever noticed a robot comment. This is an ad in the comments, right? Is this super common?
Wow, this is amazing and so simplistic.
The best ideas are usually the simplest ones.
When i was squatting 4-5 times a week i used to roll my quads with the fixed weight bb. That was a great relief
Just had my first tempering I live in Iowa and it’s becoming popular, highly recommend it
if you can’t extent your elbows, it looks painful. I had it. I did 1 year of tricep training only, and that cured my elbows.
Feels like your olecranon joint keeps on growing, so you can’t stretch your elbows anymore.
Makes sense.
9:56 that sounded exactly like Chris evans
"I summon the Playful Possum!" - Juji
Rolling the legs is so incredibly painful lol but great
Imagine multiply powerlifters calling you the most jacked up athlete they ever saw😱
Devon for next wolverine!
Devon Larratt the best
Here is where I’m going to start my journey. I’m going use your encyclopedia of information you have posted here, to better myself. More specifically my body. Thank you Juji and Devon. I have just been observing for a long time and I think it’s time to start building my arsenal.
This is really interesting because it's playing very close to current practice in physical therapy. I could have used this on my legs after some mean workouts during physical therapy.
Donny has been doing this for ages.
This has literally no scientific evidence to support its efficacy. Common sense tells you this is nonsense (Orthopedic PT and exercise physiologist here).
"I was special forces."
Of course I think I read that issue Wolverine, great to see you hit that growth spurt from 5'3" to 6'2". Good on you James Howlett.
I'm just a simple guy, i see Devon, i hit the like button
Donnie: "You're going to feel some pressure"
Devon: "Hey, are you going to buy me dinner first?"
My back is a total travesty. Would love to try this.
I work as a big fabrication shop....Im gonna score myself some off-cuts I think^^
It looks exactly like foam rolling. You can get a good foam roller for about $30. Improved my posture and solved my back pain.
When I work out biceps a lot and they get sore, i get like Devon, I literally can't even straighten my arms out. It's sooo painful, I can only imagine how Devon feels after years of his arms being like that.
Can confirm muscle rolling is both painful and helpful.
Damn, that's the real Wolverine right there
Devon is like a giant real life Wolverine 😂
The knots in his arm, OUUUCH
And here I thought studying to be a Physiotherapist was ok. I could've just rolled metal pipes on people.
I need to hear Devon's special forces stories
Staring at Devon's body, I have wondered what would happen if he address his muscle imbalances and used more GPP and restorative modalities in his training. I watched his sparring with Prudnyk, and I believe if Devon addressed some training issues and targeting weak spots, he becomes #1 hvywt in the world.
That's a joke right?
Devon’s has the same issue affecting him that John Brzenk has, and that’s time. It catches up with everyone. I wish John had been in his prime during this period when arm wrestling has much more attention, but that’s just not how things work.
yeah IF Devon supplemented with power lifting from an earlier age he would be heavier by default and probably able to move quite a bit more weight with his arms and be even better but he is past that point.
If you guys have ever had even a 45lb bar on your quads, you will understand just how painful this must be. It is the "good" type of pain, but my god, is it a LOT of it.
I actually want to see Davon do this twice a week or so, and see the results with time 🤔
0:47 Devon looks like he’s very skeptical
18:21 in the mirror lol
