If you find yourself far from your drone after a crash, turtle mode might be able to save you. By engaging turtle mode, the DJI FPV drone will use 2 motors and attempt to spin its way upright. In this video, I take you with me as I figure out how to use and engage turtle mode.

@@robbyrob25x yes... that's what every drone can do; 3d mode. It just flips accelerometer :)

dji does a great job with their drones no matter what people say about them.
Quite a good implementation of turtle mode by dji. On a “normal” fpv quad you use the pitch/ roll controls to tell the quad which motors to spin up in turtle mode rather than let the quad decide like this.
The build up time for the rotor spin is very very clever.

That was awesome Aldryn! Great discovery that you have to be in manual mode to activate the turtle mode feature. It was also interesting to see how the software knows which props to spin to make it flip over. Great demonstration video! Thank you!

For practicality reason I will be buying this drone. The features in it serves like an insurance to the investment; hard breaking, auto hover, GPS, return to home to name a few. And besides, I'm not into crazy flipping or freestyle flying. Thanks for the video.

Nice feature! Now I can get my FPV off my EX-Girlfriend's roof. She wants us to take a break and has had a different guy over every night. They all spend the night but I'm assuming she's studying for exams. She's always been a big helper!

Props can spin backwards indapendantly and almost instantly if needed, on most racing drones.
I am really looking forward to the footage that will be coming out once the insanely skilled people have some flight time with this drone.

@@hakeemjimoh425 no one said it was DJI tech, if the drones on its back a fair distance away or in an inaccessible place then it's good to know it can self correct to then hopefully take off and return to home.

Most likely it will be broken if it's on the ground unintentionally, but that's very intuitive...I still prefer my regular FPV builds with the DJI air units..Cant wait for DJI to release some of this technology for the home build FPV pilots. i think u havent noticed some thing clever here in turtle mode is dat the opposite rotors actually jammed itself to completely enable the flip over here actually the spinnin rotors create a force aginst jammed rotors blade to help it flip out of turtle mode very intelligent thinking over here great job dji

Way cool Aldryn! Rather than determining prop height like you suggested, the drone may momentarily sense which blades have made contact with the ground and wont spin, while spinning the props that are free spinning.... pre programed that way and which direction to spin the props.

Turtle mode must use a gyro in the camera or drone to sense which way it’s leaning. Very clever, and potentially useful function if it crashes but can still take off. Thank you for this info!

This is great to know. What I also would like to know is what if it land in a tree or in grass that obstructs the propellers. I've had that happen and I had to go look for it as I did not know turtle mode (although I think it would not help). Thanks
