You are both very fortunate in your marriage, your relationship. Congratulations! I married twice but I realized I didn’t have the discernment to pick the partner best for me. Raised my two children alone and am reaching my 70th decade still single. I am not lonely, I enjoy my own company, but I appreciate a marriage lasting as long as yours and what it takes to make it last. Enjoy each day together.
Some need to be dug up like canna, calla Lilly, glads, and a few others. Tulips, hyacinths, and daffodils are pretty safe, but I would check with your specific zone. 🌷🌷🌷
It depends on your zone. If you live in a cool climate you have to dig up dahlias etc. so they don't freeze over winter, if you live in a warm one you have to dig up tulips etc. to give them a cold period in a refrigerator.
The timing of this video could not have been more perfect. My granddaughter wants to grow her mom a bouquet for mother's day and just told me about it yesterday and I told that I thought she could use bulbs, now I can show her this video! Thanks
My favorite tulips are the fancy and exotic looking “parrot “ types. Especially the multi colored ones with red, yellow, and green variegated ruffled petals. Tulips have a quite interesting history, having been the subject of fortune, mania, economic boom and bust legends. Such beautiful flowers to enjoy and ponder the stories behind them as they brighten our spring landscapes.💚💚💚

Good morning, Laura ☕️ What a fantastic idea! Question, can the pots be put into an unheated garage? Obvi water a lil but not a ton of light so, idk 🤷🏼♀️? Have a Blessed Day 😊 🐈
I am not Laura, but an unheated garage sounds fine. They won't need light for a while. You could open the door to let in light occasionally if you wanted. The key if the low temperature.
In zone 7B NC on the iffy line of need to pre chill. Same zone as Creekside Nursery. More importantly, lots of winter rain to make bulbs soggy. So like Jenny, I too have refrigerated esp tulips.
Me too! Zone 7b in NC. I planted 200 tulips last year in ground and some containers. Also pre chilled in the garage frig. The ones in ground were sparse due to a wet winter - some rotted no doubt. But the containers did beautifully. I haven’t planted any this year yet, but might try using leftover nursery pots this way. They can stay in the unheated garden shed over winter. It’s worth trying! Thanks Laura and Donna!
I love tulips. We moved few months ago I our (maybe) forever home in Massachusetts. The house needs a lot of improvements on the inside but we had the most wonderful surprise in the backyard. The previous owners planted a lot of perennials including a lot of tulips. Came Spring we saw flowers popping everywhere: absolutely delightful ! Can wait to be next Spring to enjoy my backyard again 🤩
It's been a long time since I've done tulips, daffodils, hyacinth, usually hyacinths in the house paper whites, Amaryllis,so I just went crazy getting different bulbs from different sources,it will be interesting to see the outcome.Today was extremely cold and yes I was out 5 hours planting bulbs, dressed warm and my husband came to get to stop at 7:10 and it snowed for a few minutes.I am going to try planting in containers, I 've always loved the look of flowers in beautiful containers, it's just the best look, especially on my porch,I really enjoy about all 50 ft,broke my leg right before summer so ordered a lot from different nurseries that delivered, nice experience, not as fun as going in person, finally got to do that as well.Love visiting different nurseries all over,it's something a friend and I started doing years ago, like going to museums,we go to different garden centers.Thank you for all your wisdom of container gardening, you have inspired me~A 6a🌷🌷🌷
How in the world do I learn something new nearly every day on this channel?! This is brilliant! It gives you such flexibility to move them into your landscape!
Great ideas to reuse the PE containers and buying discounted bulbs . Maybe I can plant tulips after all and move them to a protected area away from the deer and rabbits when they begin to bloom in the spring. Thanks!
Fingers crossed they all come up just as you hoped. That Vanilla Coup looks like a yellow artichoke to me. Best advice I ever heard about planting bulbs was on Martha Stewart many, many, many yrs ago. She had Becky on from Brent & Becky's bulbs, Becky said if you aren't sure what's the top, plant them on their sides, the bulb will know what to do, and you won't risk planting them upside down.
I am going to try this approach...such a smart solution for moisture problems and the versatility is great! 🌷💚Thank you! These displays will be so beautiful in Spring!
I haven't seen this asked yet and it's about fertilizer. Do you ever use your chicken's litter and manure anywhere? I have been putting mine at the end of summer in my raised beds once they are cleaned out. We have the "mosh pit" where everything goes when we clean out the coop and it turns into the best compost. I do use bulb tone when planting my bulbs. I enjoyed watching this video, good idea using those containers. I'll have to try it! 🌷🌷🌷
Many years ago my partner's great grandparents owned a smaller scale working farm in KY. He told me when he was young the best tomatoes he ever had were planted in areas that had been fertilized with chicken manure. To this day, he refuses to eat tomatoes because they don't taste as good. Maybe it's just an excuse not to eat tomatoes 😉 Anyway, your comment reminded me of that story.
I've seen all her videos and know she uses Espoma products but was just wondering if she ever uses all the fertilizer her chickens make anywhere in her garden. I guess I wasn't very clear with my question. 🐔🐔🐔
@@karentorbert5646 You do have to be careful with chicken manure, it’s considered very “hot”. It will burn plants if it isn’t composted first. In my area, it is very dry, so I need to compost it for a year or two before using it. If you get a lot of rain, it might be ok to put on your beds in the fall.
I will be using my flower post to plant my bulbs. 1: It stops the squirrels from taking them. 2: It' s better to control the temperature change. Thanks. I have learn so much from watching, and listening to you.
Just dug up some bulbs my grandmother planted about 50 years ago. It was interesting, they were very close like you are planting today but they had layers. So as I pulled them out it just got deeper and deeper with bulbs. It looked as if you could mimic this by putting in the bottom then layering next with bulbs in between the grow points below. The hole had about 4 or 5 layers. They had made a beautiful large clump of flowers in the spring. I ended up with 6 large containers. Thank you for the advice about the water needs and possibility of rot. I may cover half of the containers and leave half open to the weather in hopes some make it through the winter. Love all your advice Laura!!! I have learned so much since finding your channel.
Yes! Layered bulbs is a very common practice. In one of Laura's very very early videos (maybe her 1st or 2nd year) she shows how she does it! That's so fun you get to enjoy your grandma's tulips.
So excited to see all your bulbs bloom in the spring. Have you ever tried a bulb lasagne, all my garden is in containers so I do bulb lasagne to get even more bulbs in a pot 🌷🌷
Very Timely Video! With only 4 days til my flight to the U.S., and weather turning colder with rain this week, plus running out of time, I'm going to stash some Pansies and Bulbs using this method! I was worrying about where to put them ... 😻😻😻.
I planted bulbs underneath a bunch of stuff in my fall containers. Certain plants probably won’t make it through the winter, plus I had a spray painted stick centerpiece which I probably won’t keep in spring. A store near me was selling little baskets of color coordinated bulbs for a good deal so that’s what I picked up. (They had different options but I picked up the one that was daffodils, tulips, and irises in shades of purple, yellow, and white, but they also had monochrome yellow, pink, or orange sets. They were perfect for containers.) I’m excited to see how it comes up in spring!
What a great idea to plant them in pots now and then use them in your huge Planter next spring. You can easily water in the Hartley versus dragging water up and down the lane. Smart Girl 👍👍👍👍
I love how you not only dream up and plan beautiful things for your own garden, but you also think ahead for how you can bless others with your flowers and plants! Bless you, thank you for your inspiring me today!
all the bulbs i have in my yard from the last few years are because of you, lol ❤ and Colorblends Wholesale Flowerbulbs is amazing! their bulbs - well, all you have to do is just look at the bulbs and you can tell the difference from some of the ones you find at big box stores, etc 🙂 they do chill for you, but this year you had to order a certain dollar amount in order to qualify for that service (it was fabulous for me in socal, where we will never get cold enough for winter chill, lol).... but i only ordered around 150 different kinds and not many tulips since those are such a gamble down here... at any rate, the tulips are chilling just fine with our wine in the wine fridge, lol... they do suggest that you do not put them in your regular refrigerator because some fruits/veggies can cause issues with the bulbs (don't know why)... now i'm inspired to do bulbs in pots, so yup, that's next! i cannot wait to see your spring show!!! it's going to be FANTASTIC!!! 🙂 ❤ thanks for the video!! 🙂 ❤
The the Tulips are going to be very beautiful in springtime all the different colours varieties and the one u you got from Andrews the colors look so softs and beautiful thank you Laura for amazing video
Hi, thank you for your video on planting spring bulbs in containers. I bought Tulip bulbs. I live in zone 6a (panhandle of Idaho) and we get 2'-3' of snow and our winter temps get as low as -20F. You said the containers/bulbs should be regulated to 35F-45F. You also mentioned keeping the bulbs in a refrigerator. Q: should I keep my bulbs in my refrigerator and plant them outside in the Spring since our temps get below the 35F-45F that you mentioned? I really appreciate your videos, your knowledge that you so graciously share with us and your love for gardening. I realize your videos can't address every single situation and I hope you don't mind me asking you more questions for gardening.
Great idea planting the bulbs in pots. Will make things much easier in the spring when you can move the empty containers and then put the pots of bulbs in them….and take up less space this winter.
I'm a little paranoid about losing tags so I would have labeled the pot itself. I know you've planted a lot of these tulips in years past but the cohesion of colors from the last several varieties you mentioned made me sigh. The pink, yellow, peachy colors are both so joyful and calming.
I can’t wait to watch this later, my favourite thing to do at the moment is wait until I get home from work and watch your videos on tv! So much excitement for spring and all the inspiration for our own gardens! Thank you so much 💕
I like your tastes in bulbs! Last year I had many of the same varieties (Akebono, Tom Pouce, BlushingLady, etc), they are so beautiful!! I had many compliments from neighbors! I wish it was because of my gardening talents, but Colorblends just has a really good product! You know they're great when a car stops to ask if you are "the one with the tulips"! I hope my front garden becomes a garden that neighbors seek out for some spring cheer!
I live in a zone 6 also and I’m confused to why you’re leaving the pots outside right now cause our temps are below freezing most nights now aren’t the bulbs supposed to not go below 35 degrees? Why wouldn’t you just stick them in the Hartley now? I’ll be planting bulbs myself soon so I just wanted some more clarification, thanks 😊
What an amazing idea. I never thought of planting bulbs this way and then transplanting later. Might help me with my squirrel and deer problem of digging up my bulbs over the winter months. Then I can spray them with an organic repellent after I place them in the spring. Thank you Laura.
Hi Laura. I use grit on the top of my pots after planting Tulips as this keeps the moisture in and also indicates bulbs have been planted in the pots !
Because of you I went for it………just planted 500 bulbs and I’m a total beginner. I figured if I did it right and at least a few come up it’s a win. Can’t wait to see what happens. I can see how planting bulbs can be addicting. Should I take a photo of where they are when they are in bloom so I don’t plant over them? I won’t be able to emotionally handle unearthing them, it feels criminal.🤪
pretty sure this is how my bulbs are getting planted this year!!! snow flying and still 1000 bulbs to get in the ground!!! thank you for the video it is making me feel less defeated by the weather and the late shipments of bulbs this year!

Congratulations! We just celebrated our 25th👫
Gm..more bulbs!!!!! Your simply awesome. 🌷🌞.
I have never planted bulbs of any kind. I always thought they had to be dug up and stored. oops. I'm going shopping today!!
@@Ibis333 yes! That too!!
I love the idea of planting in the plastic pots first.
Ah, dreams of spring. Michigan got some real snow yesterday. So winter is over and ready for what is next! WISH!!!

No more lugging heavy containers! Thank you for the great idea!
The hyacinths were my favorite of all the bulbs in this video. Such a spectacular blue....
Brilliant! I think I just might have to get more bulbs now, lol! 🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷
Proud of you wearing your gloves.
Enjoying the fact that Laura is adopting Claus Dalby style.
The timing of this video could not have been more perfect. My granddaughter wants to grow her mom a bouquet for mother's day and just told me about it yesterday and I told that I thought she could use bulbs, now I can show her this video! Thanks
This was and is very helpful. Didn't know you could plant them in those containers, and then replant later...fantastic idea! Thank you!!!
I love those too and thanks to another GA watcher @Brittany sue and mentioning holland bulbs I just went on there and got some lovely apricot parrot tulips (Tho they are also pink and green as well, I love that combo)
@@DonnaDavisArt those sound amazing!!!
@@laraemitchell9064 I'm pretty excited to get them I also ordered some of those lovely white tulips that Laura mentioned with the yellow stripped leaves :)
I agree with you about the history of tulips it's very interesting, sometimes scary,'m Dutch, ancestors from Holland so I guess it's a given I love tulips. It's remarkable there is a movie about tulips in I believe 18th century, can't remember the name, quite a show, love hearing about how they would bid on tulips..A,zone 6a
Good morning!🌻🐝
Good morning, Laura ☕️ What a fantastic idea! Question, can the pots be put into an unheated garage? Obvi water a lil but not a ton of light so, idk 🤷🏼♀️? Have a Blessed Day 😊 🐈
I am not Laura, but an unheated garage sounds fine. They won't need light for a while. You could open the door to let in light occasionally if you wanted. The key if the low temperature.
I was wondering the same thing, thank you soccermom1245! 😊💕
Yes, they don't need light until they start showing green growth in the spring.
I have all of my bulbs planted in pots waiting for spring to arrive. Can't wait.🌷🌷🌷👍🙂
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I look forward to planting bulbs in containers!
I have about 150 bulbs To plant. What a wonderful idea! I had no idea where to put them yet. This makes it so much easier! Thank you!
It's been a long time since I've done tulips, daffodils, hyacinth, usually hyacinths in the house paper whites, Amaryllis,so I just went crazy getting different bulbs from different sources,it will be interesting to see the outcome.Today was extremely cold and yes I was out 5 hours planting bulbs, dressed warm and my husband came to get to stop at 7:10 and it snowed for a few minutes.I am going to try planting in containers, I 've always loved the look of flowers in beautiful containers, it's just the best look, especially on my porch,I really enjoy about all 50 ft,broke my leg right before summer so ordered a lot from different nurseries that delivered, nice experience, not as fun as going in person, finally got to do that as well.Love visiting different nurseries all over,it's something a friend and I started doing years ago, like going to museums,we go to different garden centers.Thank you for all your wisdom of container gardening, you have inspired me~A 6a🌷🌷🌷
Good morning from Yuma, Arizona! Can't wait to see Everything Bloom in the Spring!! Will be Glorious!! Hugs 👍🌷🥀🌼🌸🦋🐞❤❤
"Big blooms, long stems...good things." Yes, so many good things!!
We are in the process of buying our first home & I'm excited about getting to grow flowers & a garden next spring and summer!!
Good morning!🙂
Laura talks about fertilizing bulbs in this video. Watch it again.
@@cynthiafisher9907 I let mine set for at least 6 months or so and so far it's been ok. We get enough rain so that's not a problem.
I will be using my flower post to plant my bulbs.
1: It stops the squirrels from taking them.
2: It' s better to control the temperature change.
Thanks. I have learn so much from watching, and listening to you.
Such a good idea!! I have to pre chill mine so I haven't planted yet but I'm so excited for spring 🌷⚘
I watched your video of the ones you planted last year. I would love to see a video of the results in Spring.
I saw the Instagram post the other day and I had to wait for the video to plant mine in containers too.
I just did the same thing with all my proven winner cans except that I spray painted all of mine to match.
Love seeing the hyacinths in the mix! I don't think I've ever seen you plant those.
Hi Laura and Aaron,
Maybe you could jam pack the front boxes in front of the Hartley with these pots. Those flowers would look so striking against it.
Such a great idea!!! The possibilities of where to put them in the spring is endless.
Even for someone who has planted many bulbs this is a wonderful refresher course! Thanks Laura!
Thought I was done with bulb planting for the year, but NOPE.... now I need more!! Good, good, good - good vibrations! :)
I can't wait till next spring to see all these beautiful flowers blooming. Thank you for sharing.
This is genius!! Thank you for sharing!
good moring🍂🌿🍁🎃
Bulbs and more bulbs! These are some great ideas for container planting !
Wow can't wait to see how you are going to use these. Excited!!!! So excited!!! LOL 😆 I guess I need to make the rounds to see what is left. TYFS!!!
What a great idea to plant them in pots now and then use them in your huge Planter next spring. You can easily water in the Hartley versus dragging water up and down the lane. Smart Girl 👍👍👍👍
finally you have angelique!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! im so excited hahaha🤣
I can't wait to see these bloom come spring!
Such beautiful tulips, all are beautiful, can't wait for the ahowin the spring!😍 Hugs to you all🤗💜🤗
I love how you not only dream up and plan beautiful things for your own garden, but you also think ahead for how you can bless others with your flowers and plants! Bless you, thank you for your inspiring me today!
I have tulips waiting to be planted. Doing it this week. Perfect timing.
That’s a lot of bulbs. Excited for the flowers.
I never thought about putting them in containers! Such a good idea!!
Hi Alex how are you doing?
all the bulbs i have in my yard from the last few years are because of you, lol ❤ and Colorblends Wholesale Flowerbulbs is amazing! their bulbs - well, all you have to do is just look at the bulbs and you can tell the difference from some of the ones you find at big box stores, etc 🙂 they do chill for you, but this year you had to order a certain dollar amount in order to qualify for that service (it was fabulous for me in socal, where we will never get cold enough for winter chill, lol).... but i only ordered around 150 different kinds and not many tulips since those are such a gamble down here... at any rate, the tulips are chilling just fine with our wine in the wine fridge, lol... they do suggest that you do not put them in your regular refrigerator because some fruits/veggies can cause issues with the bulbs (don't know why)... now i'm inspired to do bulbs in pots, so yup, that's next! i cannot wait to see your spring show!!! it's going to be FANTASTIC!!! 🙂 ❤ thanks for the video!! 🙂 ❤
Oh my goodness, I can’t wait to see these beauties in flower!
Great idea! And this is one way to guarantee your floor gets put in sooner 😉
Laura, you are such an inspiration!!! Even considering the fact that I live in South Florida, very tropical climate!!! Thanks!!!
Please GA plant alliums again. I love seeing where you place them each year.
I can’t wait to watch this later, my favourite thing to do at the moment is wait until I get home from work and watch your videos on tv! So much excitement for spring and all the inspiration for our own gardens! Thank you so much 💕
Auger needed a break however Laura still manages toplantmore bulbs!
Blushing lady are my favorite.
Or top them with chicken wire.
Hi Laura. I use grit on the top of my pots after planting Tulips as this keeps the moisture in and also indicates bulbs have been planted in the pots !
Maybe I missed this, but will you just “transplant” the bulbs or sit the containers in the pots for display? Either way I love this!🌷
You are not the only one. I am a bit confused too. What happens in spring?
She will transplant.
Yes, not sure process. Will they transplant in same shape or can you separate them/clump. The roots will likely grow together.
I love this because I can pop them in a large container in the spring and pull them out for annual planting without disturbing the leaves.
What an informative video. I'd decided that I just wouldn't be able to do bulbs, but I can do THIS! Thanks Laura & Aaron, aka "dynamic duo"
Love the background view. Lost you for a few minutes...sorry....LOL Great idea in the plastic pots.
Hi Laura! If I store my pots in the garage, how often would I have to water them throughout the winter. Thank you for all of your helpful information and everything that you do. Your family is amazing.
