I've been watching this channel for 9 years and whenever one of your old trees goes I feel like I'm losing an old friend. It's nice to know others feel the same and that Laura mourns them too. Life continues, always renewing...
Tears of joy and sadness all in one episode. Yet another sweet reminder of how life is fleeting. Blooms burst and fade, children grow up, stately trees come down… in the end we have memories and are afforded an opportunity to contribute to the beauty of this world for a moment in time.❤
Nothing like a good tree person who knows when it's the end of a trees life. I called to have an oak cut down because so many small twiggy branches fell every storm. The guy said he'd make a lot more money removing it, but could he please just groom it up. Who does that! He said it's always been a favorite to see when he's been in the area, good structure, his word was beautiful. Said that tree will outlast both of us! I thought he might cry, so I paid him a fraction to trim it up and he promised to come do more next year. Love that tree guy!!! Love my tree again now that I know it's ok.
Goodbye sweet mulberry.💕 Thank you for all the beauty and joy you gave for so many years.Very sad but perhaps if we think of it like this...she was old and sick and now she's at peace and having no more pain.💖
I love the respect and affection you show for these trees that have served you so well, as well as the realistic view about their lifespan. I think we all felt it a bit in the gut. 😢
I could not love this channel anymore but then your reverence for plants is so refreshing! I love that you show so much love and respect for this mulberry tree. You are apart of my morning routine and you always bring a smile to my face. I love plants and gardening and you definitely live a plant and garden inspired life! Thank you so much for being here and doing what you do!!❤
At first it was sad, but when they cut the tree in half. I gasped at 😮 how rotten it was. It was hanging on by about 50% at best and the rot was going up. It was a matter of time that it would reach the branch and come down on a car or a person. She made a good choice to remove it. ❤

Wow, that tree company is amazing. The way they held up the panels to stop debris from messing up the area. When they finished, there was no evidence that that big tree had been there! Great job

No need to explain. Many of us understand the tears, This reminds me of a big walnut tree where I grew up. It was at a corner at the top of a hill and the tallest tree you could see from miles away. I LOVE feeling like I'm shopping while watching Laura describe the plants in the new load and then adding things to my own "must buy, must have" list!! As always, loved sweet Monicas appearance. She is an angel! Back at the greenhouse I was at first wondering how is Russell missing all of this exciting action? until he showed up looking his usual handsome self 🙂😺(Can we add a little Russell emoji to a Garden Answer top?- maybe to the side of a bottom hem, or small on the top middle back? So fun!). At the end, I was admiring the workmanship and skill displayed by Natural Tree. The final clip of the back of the vehicles slowly driving away really got me...suddenly it felt like the final scene from a funeral of an old beloved friend, and the tears came. Thank you for your service and the years of pleasure you brought magnificent Mulberry.
Oh, from the “get-go” I loved that you filmed the delivery from unloading the truck to separating the flats. I used to work at our local garden center and it brought back memories! I’m so happy to see that you had a warm place to unload. We were always outside to unload and scrabbled to rush into the greenhouses with cartloads of plants. I live in southeastern Wisconsin and the ground here is frozen solid. It’s unusually strange that we have no snow. The heavy snows have gone either north or south of us. I’m wondering what our ground moisture will be this Spring… I do run drip hoses in my veggie gardens each summer. I will have to watch the perennial gardens for moisture needs this year, too. Thanks for showing all footage of the Mulberry tree removal. Even my chainsaw loving husband was interested in that portion of your video!😂
Such a bittersweet moment, but it was for the best. The tree company did a great job and they always take great care with their work. I always love seeing you working with your family down at the garden center. You all have such a close relationship.
We had a beloved 100+ year old apple tree that was completely hollow in the middle. One day, a huge branch came crashing down. We were so thankful our kids weren't near it at that time. It's so sad, but removing it is the right thing to do.❤
Thank you, Laura, for sharing your love and knowledge of plants. In the last few years I have grown to LOVE hellebore because of you. I’m itching to find more colors now. Tears streaming as the Mulberry came down. Isn’t it awesome how we can grow to love our plants and trees so. Your plans for that area will be a sweet memorial ❤️
I got teary watching the mulberry tree go. It’s been such a pivotal tree in your garden but it wasn’t safe anymore. On the positive side, wow does it open up the view. Very excited to see your planned projects for this year. 😎🇦🇺
Aren’t they just? We have deep maroon/burgundy, and bright pale green Hellebores, but sadly in Australia we are somewhat more limited; I would love to find some that Lola pink colour!
Anybody else’s heart sink in their chest when she said she had sad news! I was like “oh no!”…I was sad the tree was the issue, but super glad it wasn’t something worse! Bless that old tree…sorry you had to lose her!
Amongst all the beautiful new plants sweet Russell appears 😺🐈 such a blessing to see. Very sad to see the Mulberry Tree 🌳 😢 removed but life has an ending and hopefully some new tree / trees will take us together towards new life. Thank you Laura and Aaron for your inspiring words and videos ❤
The plant load was wonderful. I can't wait to see what you do with them, especially around the pond. As to the mulberry tree, that is like saying goodbye to an old friend, but given the rot inside the tree, you know you are doing the right thing. And the redo of that area will be great! The evolution of the gardens are like the evolution of a person as we grow and learn and adapt. Something encouraging in these crazy times!
So sad to see the tree come down but completely understand the concerns for safety. As gardeners, we all face tough decisions, perhaps on a smaller scale most of the time. 🌲🌲 Laura, I just wanted to mention an idea for creating a kitchen that you mentioned on your Highlights channel. The suggestion is to have viewers submit their pictures/videos of their kitchens so you can see what others have done, as you think about creating one for your property. It would be enjoyable and helpful for all of us, especially as we start planning our own projects for this year. 😊😊
Laura, obviously you already know this, but sometime it helps to hear it from others.....100% the right decision on the mulberry. It was sad to see that old friend go, but it certainly had a good and long life. I appreciate the love you and Aaron have for your trees.
My neighbor, her trees fell on my property from rot. One started which pushed another and another. It broke my new railing . Missed my car in the drive, but I had to have people come and chainsaw me out,. The next day the tree people came to clean up. Thousand of dollars later and months to get repairs done. So yes it's sad, but Laura you did the right thing! The flowers were lovely. Your mom and Monica are so cute.
Same sentiments. The damage trees cause it a liability. When they cut the tree in half I gasped at the amount of rot. The tree was bearly alive. She made a good choice.
Hi Laura. Love your garden and teaching us. Have you ever considered taking us to where your parents buy those healthy plants and watch them getting their plants ready to grow and sell and how they go about it?
Ha-ha… I get my “plant therapy” everyday by watching Garden Answer. I’ve learned so much from you, Laura, and have come to really love and respect you and your family.
Gosh, I need to have my mulberry tree removed, too. It got hit by a EF1 tornado that flew over our house the first year we moved in and has a crack up the middle of it. In more happy news, I finally found a Chitalpa El Nino at my local garden center! Im so excited!! 🎉😊
So many of us feel your sadness Laura of loosing such a wonderful specimen. Reminds me of when we had to take down a beautiful but ailing Blue Atlas cedar. It had special memory for me as I planted it the morning the world learned of Princess Diana’s death. So I appropriately always referred to her as our Princess Diana tree. When she came down last spring I’m not lying when I tell you I wept. Thanks for the inspiration from your great plant haul too!
Wow, that was a lot of rot in that tree!! Good thing you decided to take it down. You always seem to find the best people to do your repairs, landscape, tree haul etc.
Yep you made a good call on the Mulberry 😢. Looking at the plants with a huge smile and laughing when you and your Mom describe a plant exactly the same words and excitement, you bring so much joy. Take care xx xx
Your enthusiasm and sheer joy is so inspiring, and gosh I really needed this today. Going into my garden to do some chores now. Brrrr ❄️🙌😆 PS: Trees are such majestic and sentient beings. I cry when a tree has to come down 🙏 The Mulberry was ready. Thank you for your service. 🙌 Now you get to develop the area your way and plant new gorgeous trees 🙏❤️
Thank you for pairing a plant haul with the removal of the mulberry tree. Even though I’m excited for the new development in that area, I just can’t bring myself to watch that portion of the video. Weird that I’m attached to a tree I’ve not seen in person nor touched its bark.
I had to remove a couple of black walnuts, a copper birch, acacia, and a historic oak last spring. Lots of tears were shed. I missed these beauties that were habitats for countless visitors to my garden. Woodworking friends were offered parts of the majestic trees. When I see the beautiful pieces that these artists created remind me of the circle of life. Appreciate the gifts.
Since I was a little girl, I loved being outside cutting the grass digging in the dirt. But since I found your garden answer videos, about 3-4 years ago now, I feel like I've learned not only to appreciate but love plants, tress and grasses. So, when I saw the footage of the old big, beautiful Mulberry tree coming down, I actually cried. It was like seeing an old friend for the last time. It was sad to see it come down but understand why it had to be done, safety always first. Thank you, Laura, for teaching me to love the beauty of God's creation. 🌳💚🌱
And so it begins!......... Laura, Your parents' garden center receives the most gorgeous plants every year. So healthy and no bugs, just ready to grab a hand trowel and wanting to plant immediately into the soil. Happy Gardening!
I moved to my dream home almost 6 year's ago. I was watching you for 2 year's before that. The first thing i planted was Helibores. Beautiful cold loving plants.
Wow, after they are done, it looks like there was no tree at all. I think at this point once the trunk was hollow, it would be a question of time to see bees living in there causing even more problems. Do you think rotting was caused by high soil level? Or it just naturally happened? Are you going to check all your old trees for inside rot, if so, how could you do it? Is green trunk I dictator for rot as well? Greeting from Netherlands 😊
All those beautiful plants!! Ready for spring! Change is always difficult, especially when it's something you've enjoyed for a long time but you'll have the area where the tree was looking beautiful in no time and no one was harmed by the tree and you have plenty of pictures of that graceful and stately tree to enjoy.
Thank you for showing all those 3-5 zone plants! I will be looking for them in April or May. Yes, you all are right! A garden store here in Palmer AK. is only open for two months but we are so grateful. We have keep them in our heated garage until the end of May. But it is definitely therapy! ❤
☹️so sorry Mulberry! 😪 Thank you for all the years of shade and branches for nests. Your grandeur exceeded any expectation and you’ll be sorely missed. Sorry sweet Laura!
Who is Barb? Beautiful plant load. Can’t wait to see the projects you do with them. I live in a Villa (N. FL Zone 9a) with small gardening space, Laura, your containers and table top projects are ones I can use as examples, which truly inspires me. RIP Mulberry Tree, thank you for your service to the GA Team and our community. ❤❤❤❤
Laura, I see you restrained yourself. ❤😂 thanks for sharing your visits to THE garden center. I love to see the color and variety of plants, and most of all the love between you, your mom, and your sister.
I loved the morning Barb. The mulberry tree has given generations of people huge joy. It’s sad it is no longer a huge presence in the garden, however, I’m sure you and Aaron will do something attractive with the space in due course. Nice job tree guys.
I just have to say to you that your mom is absolutely beautiful! I mean, there she is in her rough and tumble garden gear and still gorgeous. Unlike my 52 year old self, she has no wrinkles, no turkey neck, no red patches on her face, smooth skin…just ageless!
I loved seeing the new plant load. Beautiful plants and I can't wait to see you plant the ones you got. Your mom is so sweet and so talented and a very astute businesswoman. So sorry to see the Mulberry come down but you could see the rot/hollow area of the stump. Wonderful video and what a great way to start my day. Thank you Have a blessed day everyone.
RIP Mulberry Tree. I’m glad you did take it out it was time. Oh WOW it open that space up so much. Great decision. Great plants love seeing Monica’s and your Mum. Thanks again for sharing this with us. Appreciated.💯💯💯🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Felt it in my heart seeing that mulberry tree come down. I’m pregnant and very hormonal, thus had teary eyes. Truly a nature’s wonder that’s stood the test of time. But as with everything else, it too had to face its end. And what a good call on Paul for noticing that rot, it was quite substantial once they cut the base.
I can empathize with you regarding the big tree loss. A couple of years ago, in a spring storm, lightning struck a 70 ' ponderosa pine in our front yard. There was very little visible structural damage. We were advised to give the tree time and observe. One year later, there was a large visible split, and we had to remove the tree. The tree age was estimated to be 150 years. I know what you mean to grieve the loss of a big tree. It was such a good therapy to have a load of new plant life arrive the same day. The hellebores are my favorite🎉
I love the selection of ground covers in this load. My goodness, I can imagine the Scottish moss growing over the pond rocks and it would give so much texture and color in that area.
Love watching each day! This one gives me hope for the coming Spring! Sorry about your tree loss. We had three mulberry trees when we moved in, but they were old and we've lost every one over time. They do create a mess with the berries dropping, though, and they do more to attract the deer from our neighborhood so I'm not sad to have that attraction gone. Questions: what's going on with your big Aquascape bowl and what's growing in your Greenstalks in the greenhouse?
Loved seeing the new plant haul at Andrew’s Seed and felt that Springtime energy! Also felt the twinge of sadness in taking down the majestic Mulberry tree - all I could think before that very last piece of the trunk was removed, was that Brian might have loved using that in one of his Aquascape projects - would be so cool if it was laid on it’s side and the open ‘pocket’ could have been filled with soil and some type of plants added to grow in it! I have a huge old Live Oak that will have to be taken down at some point, but I want to save a part of the trunk to use for a decorative purpose hopefully. Laura, how would you determine when a tree like your Mulberry (or my Oak) is just too far gone to recycle/repurpose - maybe to be used as a planter, or even as a Fairy house with a cute roof on top? Looking forward to seeing the new fence line with the red maples extended all the way down your driveway!
I feel.for you over the tree. We have had trees come down on and next to our garden, and it is a sad loss. Your addition to the line of Autumn blaze will fill in that loss. Exciting to see the new plants, especially the Hellebores! They are amazing plants, and the first blooms in the garden.
Question ? I live in Noblesville Indiana. can I keep Heloboris plant and keep it inside the house till early spring then I will plant it outside? I love all your posts; it is an awesome treat every morning with my coffee. Blessings to you and your sweet mom and sweet Monica and to all.
You will love the Kenilworth ivy. Such a fun ivy! It “sneaks” around rocks and looks amazing. Yes, it spreads, but in a very fun way. It looks completely dead come spring, but pops back to life. Enjoy!
What gloriously beautiful new plants! They feed the soil this time of year. It’s hard to loose such a massive presence in the garden like that mulberry but I’m sure in no time that area will look amazing and you will struggle to remember what it used to look like.
Hey Laura. I made the mistake of buying Hellebores as plug plants. After 4 years still no flowers or even buds. I would strongly recommend people buy the full blown plant and get flowers sooner. It's more expensive but its worth it. xxx
You have cultivated my love of Hellebores. I had never seen a Hellebore or knew what type of flower it was before I started watching your videos. Now I have about 4 different varieties of them in my garden. You definitely need to know and make sure that where you plant them is shaded enough that they don't burn.
I shed a tear watching them taking that beautiful tree down. I feel your sadness! We lived on a dirt road and the township wanted to widen and pave it. There was a huge, very old maple tree that had to come out. We fought for it's survival but lost. When they cut it down we found the entire center up except for about 3 inches around the outside was all totally rotted. It was a blessing in disguise that the tree was taken out before it came down on it's own. We lost a beautiful tree but averted a possible tragedy.
I teared up watching the mulberry come down. Weird how we become emotionally attached!!! Plant haul looks amazing!!! How exciting!!! Another season is approaching!!!
It is sad to see it go but the timing tells me it was the right time and enables you to transition the space. Whatever you put in its place will be gorgeous, I have no doubt. Thank you for the plant therapy and inspiration as well.
So many beautiful plants! I’ve read that smelling soil and being with plants is very relaxing. We all need to dig in the dirt and enjoy the beauty and relax at the same time. Sad to see the tree go. But it was definitely going to be too dangerous. I had to have a big sequoia and pine trees taken out a couple of years ago and it is a sad thing but sometimes it has to be. Sending hugs.
Toad lilies. They do great if you keep them wet and also they need a lot of compost. Mine didn't do very well until I top dressed with a thick layer of compost. Also, try to keep the bunnies away and spray for slugs. I use slug bait, cayenne pepper powder and red pepper flakes. If you can keep them going the flowers will give you such a thrill. They really are worth the effort.
I definitely have spring fever. Watching you get beautiful blooming plants and Creekside getting their baby plants in and up potting them, makes me yearn for spring. So sorry about the tree, it really was an impressive, grand old tree. Maybe you could plant another, small one in its honor.
Your Mom speaks to my soul when she says "people need that plant therapy in January." YES we do. I used to go to garden centers in Jan. until they all shut down in my area. 😞 It was very sad seeing that tree go. It stood the test of time like a landmark. Did you save any limbs as log seats for mementoes? I know I would have. I'm a tree hugger. 🙂
I'm super excited!! I've especially enjoyed over the last couple of years seeing just how much your ground cover efforts have taken off in your garden. Ground cover plants are à huge benefit in one's garden. Can't wait to see these go in.
Be still my heart! Thank you for feeding all of us with that first plants load! What fun! I have a soft spot for mulberry trees and feel your sadness for having to remove it. Please think about “honoring” your old friend by planting another mulberry on the property. The variety I grew up had large white fruits and we cherished picking them to eat! I think your kids would thoroughly enjoy.
“Morning Barb”. I absolutely loved that! So glad it wasn’t edited out! (And I don’t even know Barb. lol)
My favorite, he was so sweet 🥰😅
I heard that and was saying in my head “Oh, Barb has a sweet friend!” Made me wanna say hi to barb as well.
right??? HELLO BARB!!!! so cute 🥰🥰
And the new year begins.

Those fellows taking down the tree certainly know their business! Great job!
I got teary watching the mulberry tree go. It’s been such a pivotal tree in your garden but it wasn’t safe anymore. On the positive side, wow does it open up the view. Very excited to see your planned projects for this year.
😎🇦🇺
Those hellebores are so beautiful!!!!!!
Aren’t they just? We have deep maroon/burgundy, and bright pale green Hellebores, but sadly in Australia we are somewhat more limited; I would love to find some that Lola pink colour!
That mulberry served its space well and now makes room for more beautiful things to happen. ❤
It was sad to see the tree go, but it was no longer safe to keep up. It made my day when that sweet man gave a shoutout to Barb! ❤
That was one magnificent tree removal. Clean, exacting, superior tools and men to make the job quick. Superbly done.
Anybody else’s heart sink in their chest when she said she had sad news! I was like “oh no!”…I was sad the tree was the issue, but super glad it wasn’t something worse! Bless that old tree…sorry you had to lose her!
I actually teared up a little when I watched the mulberry come down. What a great life it had.
Your mom's hair in this video is stunning. I mean her hair always looks great, but it looked really good in this one! How does she do it?!
Mornin Barb !!!!
Omg,that is just the sweetest thing and given me faith again.
I hope you have the most fabulous day Barb! ❤
Thank you so much for not editing out that man’s hello …. That was just so warm and fuzzy 😊
Barb, I hope you enjoyed your shout out!! LOL love it!
Beautiful plants, especially the hellebores. Amazing how efficiently the tree people worked and how clean they left the area. ❤
Brrrr ❄️🙌😆
PS: Trees are such majestic and sentient beings.
All the new green and color are a sight for sore eyes. Wow, the tree removal team sure do a great job not only removing the tree but also clean up.
The saying is to hug a tree. I sure hope Laura gave that tree a goodbye hug. Love this channel!!
oh this fills my cup!! can’t wait to have plants with color! so sad about your tree, but she lived a glorious, long life. 🌳
I moved to my dream home almost 6 year's ago. I was watching you for 2 year's before that. The first thing i planted was Helibores. Beautiful cold loving plants.
Laura's been threatening to up her groundcover for a few year's now 💐
Wow, after they are done, it looks like there was no tree at all.
I love the enthusiasm you and your mom have for all of the plants. The Helebore are so beautiful. Spring is on it's way!
Thank you for showing all those 3-5 zone plants! I will be looking for them in April or May. Yes, you all are right! A garden store here in Palmer AK. is only open for two months but we are so grateful. We have keep them in our heated garage until the end of May. But it is definitely therapy! ❤
Even with the first stack of plant palettes, I find myself saying… I’ll take three of those, five of those, one of those. 😂
☹️so sorry Mulberry! 😪 Thank you for all the years of shade and branches for nests. Your grandeur exceeded any expectation and you’ll be sorely missed. Sorry sweet Laura!
I love the tree guy saying good morning to his wife because he knows she is watching your channel ? ❤
I also until age 60. Rapidly aging now, unfortunately.
Beautiful inside and out!
(Mulberry) Though deeply sad, the timing of the tree's removal is a blessing.
I would also like to wish a Good morning to Barb.. and to all of the. other viewers as well! Loved watching the tree come out! Fascinating!
Thank you
Have a blessed day everyone.
In the big bowl she trys to over winter tropical water lilies.
For some reason that little Ballet Hellebore reminds me of Samantha 🥰
Love watching professional tree trimmers do tree removal. No worry of chance taking and accidents. Nice job.
Hey Laura. I made the mistake of buying Hellebores as plug plants. After 4 years still no flowers or even buds. I would strongly recommend people buy the full blown plant and get flowers sooner. It's more expensive but its worth it. xxx
I am sorry for the loss of your Mulberry tree- it was a beauty. I am glad you have been able to enjoy it while you lived there.
You have cultivated my love of Hellebores. I had never seen a Hellebore or knew what type of flower it was before I started watching your videos. Now I have about 4 different varieties of them in my garden. You definitely need to know and make sure that where you plant them is shaded enough that they don't burn.
What a great team, I love the lil nod at the end there when he turned, so cool to watch this, thanks for sharing x
I think it's because we could sense Laura's emotions even tho she was trying to stay professional!
Those hellebores and the winter ballet lola are stunning!!! Thank you for sharing all those fresh plants with us!
Beautiful. Personal note. I cried when you lost Dexter and surprised me but cried for the mulberry tree. Love you.
