How is it that no matter how much garden we have, we’d always like more? And because seeing it grow is such a joy we hate to cut them and bring them in! Maybe one year you could dedicate a row to “Dollar Store” seeds, to show us economically impaired gardeners if there’s really a big difference in the end product? $3 seed packets add up fast vs 4/$1 at the Dollar Store.
I've used seeds from Walmart last year. The seeds were supposed to be short zinnias around my mailbox. Well the "shorties" grew to 4 feet or more. 😂 LoL! The mail lady stopped me one day and said she looked forward to delivering mail to my mailbox everyday because the flowers were so pretty. If it hadn't been for covid-19, I'd have cut some of the zinnias and given her a bouquet. Maybe this year. I did notice that not all of the cheaper seeds germinate and I had to buy more. I think this is probably the difference between cheaper seeds and the $3 per packet seeds. My cost last year probably was closer to the $3 per packet to get the amount of zinnia seeds I needed to grow. Happy gardening!
I've seen other You Tube videos doing this, and somehow there is usually an issue... Mislabeled packets, or just very old seeds, and bulbs. I do remember one girl doing this with Ranunculus corns, as it happens! Her rate of germination was extremely low. I think she got 2 to germinate out of 2 dozen corns? Don't quote me on that, I watched a long time ago. But hey! She DID get 2 plants at that bargain price!! So I think if you've got a thick skin for low germination numbers, it wouldn't be a terrible idea! Who knows, you may even get lucky!!
Dollar store seeds are legitimate seeds. The germination rate isn't guaranteed like the more expensive seed companies, but they do still germinate. The biggest thing to watch for with them is the quantity of seeds in the cheaper packets. Sometimes, by the time you have bought enough packets to get the quantity of seeds you need (of one thing) it ends up not being the bargain you thought, in comparison to more expensive packets. Some of those 25-50c packets are pretty light on seeds (especially flower mixes and carrots).
I tried the Dollarstore seeds this year...well, you get what you pay for...basically nothing!... did not germinate, did not grow...you are better off buying those bags of McKenzie Wild Flower seed for 10 bucks at Walmart...
Those raised beds are such a star this year with wall to wall colorfull blossoms. The pink and rose colors of the ranunculus are incredible! Good choice
I Absolutely Loved the amount of sunflowers you planted last year. It was the most amazing thing. For those of you who love to watch every morning with your coffee or tea. I started watching old olds again. I love to watch every day so that is how I get my fix.
Beautiful bouquets! I've been wondering, how do you change the water in such large vases/containers without completely messing up the flower arrangement?
In a previous video I remember her saying she takes the arrangement to the sink and floods the vase with fresh water - just lets it fill and run over - so it flushes out most of the old water. She explained it better but I hope you kind of get what I mean🌸
@@sheilastromberger2275 Thank you for answering my question! That makes so much more sense than trying to remove everything and keep the arrangement intact.
It'll come in time! :) I keep looking at our yard thinking - how on earth am I going to fit everything I want in years to come and still have room for the kids to play?? Of course, by the time I actually get all my projects in hand the kids might already be grown...
Get started this year and you will have so much by end of the year and more next year! The money I would spend on facials, pedicure clothes all going to the gardening - and I am happy because every one in the family can enjoy. I started last year first time gardening successfully ( killed several plants in the past ).
@@Edu_Kate isn’t that the truth??? We get frost and freeze warnings in May. Then June hit!!! The weatherman said yesterday we are almost 3 inches below average. Very different from last year.
This lady is amazing. Wonderful selection of sunflowers. Everything is so beautiful already. Some of my favorites are the smoketree and rananculus. ☀️🌸🌻
You take me back to my gardening days. Thank you, Laura. I hope that I can get back to it someday, but if I don't, your enthusiasm will always remind me of my love of gardening!
I ordered about 50 ranunculus corms this year to try them out and have exactly 3 plants, two of which are looking pretty puny. I have no idea what I did wrong! I did the running water thing before I put them into some potting soil, but had very poor germination. And the ones that survived did not do well when I brought them outside each day to harden off a little bit. Any suggestions?
I have had some success with ranunculus but nothing as gorgeous as Laura’s. I bought some late in spring and lost a whole tray to overwatering. The corms basically disintegrated. The ones that I planted outside in well drained soil (zone 6A) in March, did the best. The part where she placed them in moist soil and then left them alone for two weeks, was the most important part. She did not water. They absorb the water from the moist soil and need very little water to sprout. I had some actually grow baby ranunculus, so that was fun to find when I started digging the corms out of the soil. For some reason, the ranunculus liked one of my garden beds and kept coming back each year without messing with them. I do mulch a lot though. My best guess would be overwatering that did your corms in. I would keep trying. Once you figure out what they like, they are so amazing to have in the spring. They last longer than daffodils or tulips and don’t mind the frost. Another early blooming flower to try is the small english daisies. They are small and low to the ground and will flower all spring. They also make me so happy.
I noticed the beautiful black, white, and yellow arrangement in the background of your Q&A video on your other channel and thought how gorgeous it looked! I'm so happy to see you actually put it together! You are so very talented and I just wanted to thank you for the inspiration, as well as the wealth of information you include in each video! I've learned SO much and have found something that I am passionate about while watching you just being yourself, so thank you thank you thank you! ❤
I ordered mine last October and didn't get them till the middle of April. I don't think mine will have any buds. It's in the high 90's this week and I don't think they like hot weather. Oh well, maybe next year I'll order from Floret.
@@karentorbert5646 the only plants of mine that have buds were started literally February 1st... which to me seems ridiculous to have to start that early. I don't think my other corms I started later will flower at all. Maybe we've just had a too hot spring? I'm in zone 5b and usually we don't have this many days in the upper 80s this early in the year!
It's amazing how such a weird corn or tuber can give our eyes such a beautiful treat when flowers grow from them. Laura you've become a natural florist and each arrangement becomes a work of art.

Evening Everyone 🥰
Everything is looking stunning Laura 🥰 you are such an inspiration and inspire us to enjoy our gardens 🪴🌺🪴
I can’t show this video to my ranunculus, they’ll have self esteem issues 😂
😂😂😂 seriously
HA HA Nicole! Your gardens are beautiful!! 😘
🤣hilarious! love your video’s Nicole!
You are so funny!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Seriously, your RANUNCULUS are just fine. 😉🌾🌺
Love your channel
Wow you are tireless! love seeing the growth and blossoms what an inspiration.
Nice Tutorial on the Anemone, I keep getting them as gifts, and didn't have the Slightest idea what to do with them
Your video’s are so educational and you are a joy to watch. So unpretentious and grounded.
I often soak my seeds then put the seeds between damp paper towels until they sprout... Works great.
I love your garden! Its always so beautiful and elegant🌸🌱 Thanks for sharing this with us Laura! It's always great to see you💞
Oh my word! Those arrangements are stunning!
Those raised beds are such a star this year with wall to wall colorfull blossoms. The pink and rose colors of the ranunculus are incredible! Good choice
I’m starting Ranunculus next year I loved your beautiful colors!
I Absolutely Loved the amount of sunflowers you planted last year. It was the most amazing thing. For those of you who love to watch every morning with your coffee or tea. I started watching old olds again. I love to watch every day so that is how I get my fix.
"I don't have enough room." Oh my goodness. What a lucky day.
Laura your arrangements are spectacular!! Such an artist!!
I planted sunflowers and 600 zinnias last week. I'm already seeing seedlings 🌱🌱
😱Les Genoux 😱Les Ongles !
Protection Protection !!!!
LOVE THE SUN FLOWERS

Beautiful bouquets! I've been wondering, how do you change the water in such large vases/containers without completely messing up the flower arrangement?
In a previous video I remember her saying she takes the arrangement to the sink and floods the vase with fresh water - just lets it fill and run over - so it flushes out most of the old water. She explained it better but I hope you kind of get what I mean🌸
@@sheilastromberger2275 Thank you for answering my question! That makes so much more sense than trying to remove everything and keep the arrangement intact.
@@TheNorthernJourney I did it this way last summer/fall with my cut flowers and I made sure to also add new preservatives. Had good results.
Wow, they are stunning! In the bed, in the bucket and in arrangement! Just too pretty!
“Run out to the garden and make an arrangement!” Looks out at my empty 5 acres wondering how long it’ll take to get what Laura has!
Lol 😂 iam on the same boat
My sister has 3 and she don't do anything with her's either. I tell her I'll trade my backyard for hers. I only have 3/4 of an acre
3 years. I’m hoping 3 maybe 4🤣
new watcher here, just can't thank you enough for the depth of your videos!
Yay! Love Ranuculus, sadly I planted and they sprouted and died. We are going through a very dry season here in Florida:
Same in Minnesota. Hot and dry. And now, humid. Ugh!
✋✋ I HAVE AN IDEA!! Each week at the end of a recap video pick a plant of the week and tell us things about it!! Or it could be on the main channel.✋✋
Yes, great idea!!
Definitely get your money back.
Morning! Anyone else want to guess that Zinderella Peach will be Laura's favorite zinnia?
I thought the same thing! By sheer coincidence I planted this variety and can't wait to see how it performs.
Beautiful and very formal look. As beautiful as these are, I personally prefer a bouquet look, more like they were in the buckets! 😊 so much beauty
She got blooms on her ranuncs in two months... meanwhile I'm sitting here on 4 months with these plants and just finally getting buds😭😭😭😭
So beautiful! This is what my fantasy gardens look like!
What the heck? I pre sprouted/planted my ranunculus at the same time and mine are barely growing!
You are absolutely glowing this morning❣️😊
Isn't it amazing that something so beautiful comes from that wrinkly little corm? I've watched twice, just to see the blooms!
It's amazing how such a weird corn or tuber can give our eyes such a beautiful treat when flowers grow from them. Laura you've become a natural florist and each arrangement becomes a work of art.
