I remember when I first started sailing around 1970. I asked a friend who had a fiberglass boat how long he thought fiberglass would hold up. He replied, "Nobody knows -- yet." Clearly the answer is -- more than long enough. Congrats on the "new" boat.
Do you know by suffering a little bit with a smaller boat, the joy of the new boat your building will be so much more. I’m really glad you’re doing this, you’re setting up yourself for such a joyous time when that boat is done that you’re going to build. You’re also showing other people with smaller boats that they can do travels as you do.
Articos is a fitting name for her, she seems to be well built, and is indeed a great value. She'd do well plying the coastal waters of Maine, love her already. Thanks for the tour 🙂
Great boat you got there. Makes med proud to hear you talking so warmly about the engine, since my father for many, many years was responsible for the design for the series of small diesel engines engines. He joined Volvo Penta 1962 and as a young boy i spent time with him on boats at Krossholmen, testing out new engines and/or improvements made over the years. In these days when sustainability is discussed more and more, i am just curiois how many boats and engines built today that will last for 55 years 😊
Thanks guys, If your happy we're happy it's as simple as that. We've been following for quite a while, you have never lost our interest. Stay safe we love y'all.👍🐾
The charm of the classic 9m boat, teak interior, accessible engine, a protected cockpit. Small boat = small budget and easy maintenance. Something to make you happy. I'm sure you'll take great care of the boat. Best wishes.
I used to own a 1964 Cal30, a very similar boat by both design and construction, down to the quarter berth design in the stern, the insanely thick glass built and a two blade prop. I purchased her in mint condition for $5500 Canadian and sailed her very happily on Lake Ontario. She was an absolute terror to maneuver at slow speed on engine, but came alive the second speed was applied. Your boat also looks much loved and well looked after, with a ton of sensible additions.
Johan I know everyone will want Articus because it will be better when you are through with it. I too would like to buy it when Ran III is complete. Have fun will watch the shows!
What a beautiful boat! She looks sturdy, seaworthy, safe, and compact. May you have many happy days aboard! €5500! WOW! You are masters of what you do. I SO envy you!
Being in Spain, it almost makes me cry how much boat you have for that kind of money + the shape it is in. Here you pay triple for something that isn't near what you got there! She is a really nice boat, you guys did very well!
I'm so happy for you. You have eachother and a brilliant little yacht to go cruising with. The idea of naming her RAN 2.5 sounds ideal! Best of luck, from the bottom of my heart.
Lovely little boat filled with your loving family sure to be a wonderful adventures Thank you for taking us along. Oh you all and the new yacht are Beautiful Love
I have just purchased a never before used, old school depth guage like yours for my 29' sailboat because I am hoping that the sonar will help with antifouling for the bottom. Anyone else experienced with sonar for such things, of course depth and fish finder will be used as well.
I know this boat is small for you but, having sailed a 27 foot boat, it was my dream to have a 30+ foot boat. As you know, each extra foot in length adds 50-60 extra cubic feet of volume.
This is a perfect size boat, nice and cozy. I am living in the Netherlands aboard a 33ft for 8 years, never going back to land again. Your hull looks like mine, it can realy take on heavy conditions
The Ran Mariners make it look easy, teamwork makes the dream work, blessings , fair winds, prayers for love one with health... Divine Love fills their consciousness with health and every cell in their body is filled with light... and so it is
Hi guys. Thanks to RUclips I haven’t seen any videos from you in quite a while. I think the last one was when you were trying to stay in the US for having your baby. Felt sorry that my country was not flexible in that regard. And now you have a beautiful child adding tour “crew” and a new boat too! I am looking forward to your new adventures.
Great to see you sorting out your new boat. Things can’t have been easy but you always come across so optimistic and we only see the uplifting aspects of your sailing life. Thank you and as you say, when life gives you lemons......
A beautiful boat indeed. Thank you for the tour, it is good to see an older boat in this size range. The quality of manufacture really was very different. Seeing this puts the Van de Stadt on my to look at boats for a live a board for myself. I am looking forward to new adventures from afar.
She is a simple and pretty boat. For a small boat she has many nice features and makes you think that her logs if you have the early ones especially will tell an interesting tale.
I had that MD-2B engine in our 1st boat. The Cold start button is key. Also, make sure to tighten the oil level base nut that screws down for the dipstick. Not just the dip stick… the base into the engine must be tight…For whatever reason I found this had a great effect on the oil pressure.
Those are great little stoves I had one on my 1977 Sabre 34 and loved it. I believe they are not made anymore and are worth money now. Made in Sweden I believe. We call them denatured alcohol stove in USA or that's the fuel I used for mine.
Impressive, looks to be built with the redundancy of a battle boat. Hand start for the diesel and easily accessible for upkeep. Fiber glass construction, keel protecting the rudder and prop. That design looks like it will ride up the swells well and be pretty stable. All that with Malin, Vera and your seamanship should make for some good viewing.
Your new little boat looks quite cozy. I’m sure it feels like a roller skates to you. 🤣. This could be a starter boat for you daughter. Like passing cars down in a family. Love your family adventures. Thanks. 💞☮️
Hello to you your video just showed up on my phone I really like the layout of your boat especially the inside pretty roomy for a small boat I wouldn't mind having a mono Hull don't like that I don't know about a deep keel like you have but I guess there are advantages to it. And the diesel heater is a good add-on and I love the dog house that is a nice style it matches the boat really good you got that boat where a really good price. I'm not a sailor but when I apply for my early retirement in March coming up after my birthday I might consider a mono-hull like that I was thinking of a catamaran or a trip hull but that's a decent looking little boat I love the way the motor can be started with a crank handle that's a good idea not much room to add solar panels on the roof or the deck but maybe enough to run a 12 volt refrigerator freezer. Anyway congrats on your new boat hope you get a lot of enjoyment out of it I think I'll subscribe to your channel.
Lovely looking boat. My mum had a vanderstat when I was a child and we had super sailing holidays cruising ireland and Brittany. Amazing price! Have fun.
Hi folks, I love the new old boat it looks really good, what a lucky find in the short time you have been home. I have been watching your videos for a number of years now and always enjoy the visit on Saturday mornings here in Sydney. I wish you all wall with the new project and look forward to its beginnings.
The price is excellent and fibreglass construction in these older boats is overbuilt...very rugged. I also like the motor sailor dog house, out of the elements....very nice...cheers🍷🇨🇦
Love the “new” RAN … you three are an awesome team … huge congrats on this exciting chapter. Been following your YT channel ever since Ep 1 … just gets better and better!! 🎉💯 RAN IIi indeed! 😂
Very much enjoying your videos and music selection too, had a thought when you talked about the diesel heater having a carbon monoxide/smoke detector on board would be a nice safety feature for peace of mind for the family, cheers and good luck.
It's really interesting to see Johan going over the smaller boat of a similar size and layout to what I am looking into for Vancouver Island Coastal Cruising. Between you guys, Barry, The Wynns, Ruby Rose and Nahoa i've picked up some stuff over the past couple of years ;)
What a sturdy little yacht is Articos! The ability to hand crank the engine by using compression release is a real bonus safety feature. Getting into and out of that v-berth would be a non-starter for me! Vera and Malin looked quite cozy up there though.
A sweet, perfect little boat for you. Nice find and a great little getaway when you all get overwhelmed from your boat build. I’m excited for you and am sure you are too!
That's an astounding amount of boat for the money. Over here (Portland, OR, USA), that amount will get you something with either a missing or broken down engine, trashed interior, sketchy hull or just a lot of unknowns (how many hours on the motor - no idea, when was the bottom last painted - no idea, etc etc). Well, or a much smaller boat. :) Nicely done, and I'm very jealous of the doghouse! Some shelter from the elements would be great here in the Pacific NW. :)
What a lovely little boat, a great find indeed. Thanks for the informative boat tour. That'll be great for you guys whilst building your own. Love the vlog :)
What an unexpected cut, the toilet-room would be the most exciting adventure for me. I am very excited to hear about the plans for the new self made boat construction one day.
She is a nice „little“ boat by a great designer. My first sailboat was a Van DeStadt design, a Varinta 65. Compared to my current boat (22ft) yours is still large. I am sure you will have fun with her and I can‘t wait to see her sail.
Wow what a bargain! You will enjoy that yacht and it will look after you, there is a good motion to it in heavy seas, enjoy yourselves with it, a great idea
What an excellent boat for you as a temporary platform, Enough to keep the Sailing Bug in play, and small enough to not take all your time on. I've seen a few channels now where people have changed to Alcohol/Ethanol/Spirit stoves, and they seem to be safer than Propane and of course, the fuel is much easier to keep in smaller volumes for storage around the boat.
I remember when I first started sailing around 1970. I asked a friend who had a fiberglass boat how long he thought fiberglass would hold up. He replied, "Nobody knows -- yet." Clearly the answer is -- more than long enough. Congrats on the "new" boat.
Thanks for all the videos…
Yes, a good choice. Great price. You truly have made lemonade.
Do you know by suffering a little bit with a smaller boat, the joy of the new boat your building will be so much more. I’m really glad you’re doing this, you’re setting up yourself for such a joyous time when that boat is done that you’re going to build. What an awesome little boat. You done extremely well. Can't wait to see her with some wind in her
Thanks guys, If your happy we're happy it's as simple as that. We've been following for quite a while, you have never lost our interest. Stay safe we love y'all.👍🐾
Thanks for the tour! Exciting times!
Sailing her will be so much fun. Congratulations on your new boat.
The charm of the classic 9m boat, teak interior, accessible engine, a protected cockpit. Small boat = small budget and easy maintenance. Something to make you happy. I'm sure you'll take great care of the boat. Best wishes.
We think you will enjoy the boat very much,... it will serve your purpose, and cure your need to sail while building RAN III. Thanks for sharing.

I love how you calmly move onto the Next boat. And she is lovely.
Beautiful boat !..
Johan I know everyone will want Articus because it will be better when you are through with it. I too would like to buy it when Ran III is complete. Have fun will watch the shows!

This is definitely a design of Ricus Van de Stadt himself. So, be very happy with it and with Godspeed it will take you to most places.😇
Love the new boat. Look forward to your adventures on her and also the new boat build.
The smile on my face can't be beat! Love you all!
Being in Spain, it almost makes me cry how much boat you have for that kind of money + the shape it is in. Here you pay triple for something that isn't near what you got there! She is a really nice boat, you guys did very well!
It surely has to be renamed "RAN 2.5"
RAN IIi
Or, Half Ran
Ranma 1/2 😊
I'm so happy for you. You have eachother and a brilliant little yacht to go cruising with. The idea of naming her RAN 2.5 sounds ideal! Best of luck, from the bottom of my heart.
I like your new boat. It will serve you well while building your boat. May the Lord bless and keep you three in your travels.
The hand crank feature on the engine could be a lifesaver someday. I like the boat, especially the Diesel stove.
They definitely are
a great find!,,, can't wait to see the improvements you make it uniquely work for the three RAN's !
The beginning of a new chapter in your life! Great good luck and fun adventures to you!
I met you guys in Martinique and now my danish husband is a new subscriber!!! can't wait for your new adventures xxx
The hard dodger is really good
Lovely little boat filled with your loving family sure to be a wonderful adventures Thank you for taking us along. Oh you all and the new yacht are Beautiful Love

Great boat at a great price! So happy for y’all.
This is a perfect size boat, nice and cozy. I am living in the Netherlands aboard a 33ft for 8 years, never going back to land again. Your hull looks like mine, it can realy take on heavy conditions
To be honest I am thrilled with this change. That boat screams adventure and upgrade/maintenance videos. Go get em.
I absolutely love the new boat, it’s the perfect size to me and it’s really beautiful.
I was disappointed at first, but then realized how much I will enjoy watching you improve and sail this boat. Wishing you all the best.
My family and I just returned from wonderful trip to your country. Malmo and Beddingestrand were beautiful and we can't wait to return. All the best!
Your both an inspiration to the boating community!
I wish you enough in your new adventure. Excited to see your design of your next boat. Fair winds
The Ran Mariners make it look easy, teamwork makes the dream work, blessings , fair winds, prayers for love one with health... Divine Love fills their consciousness with health and every cell in their body is filled with light... and so it is
Great video, can’t wait to tag along with you on your upcoming adventures.

it is a real bargain. happy sailling.
Well, that was a great binge of all of Ran Sailing! I'm hooked and the bell is turned on.
We recognize that engine, haha. Enjoy the ‘little’ boat! She definitely looks great for the price, ready for some quick adventures.
Your new little boat is perfect.
What a great coastal cruiser and occasional blue water boat... You guys got a killa deal!!! 🙂⛵️
She is a simple and pretty boat. For a small boat she has many nice features and makes you think that her logs if you have the early ones especially will tell an interesting tale.
That is a VERY nice boat! Amazing shape. Looks very comfy for 31 feet. Looks well equipped to do some serious sailing. Enjoy.
Great catch! She looks great for her age and easy to use & maintain. Enjoy! 🫶
I love your new boat. I grew up ina simular one 60 years ago. I whist you lots of plesent sails.
So happy for you. I look forward to seeing the upcoming episodes if you sailing and exploring the world.
Enjoyed seeing and hearing! I liked a lot of the comments so I won't say more other than thank you for sharing!!
Lovely boat, Articus! Great value, robust, and well thought out. Laughed at old echo sounder, memories of carefully watching the display.
Your new boat looks like it will be a great boat for Vera to learn more about sailing on.
I had that MD-2B engine in our 1st boat. The Cold start button is key. Also, make sure to tighten the oil level base nut that screws down for the dipstick. Not just the dip stick… the base into the engine must be tight…For whatever reason I found this had a great effect on the oil pressure.
Agree 100% I put up a couple videos on my old md2b. Love that I could crank start!
The salt eats them from the inside.
Looks like a very good price. I love the old school boat. Glad you got her as an interim boat so you can keep up the sailing videos. Thanks
Congratulations as you continue living aboard and sail while building your new boat. 👏🏝⛵️
Thank you.
Cozy especially with the wood stove. Great Tiny House getaway boat.
It looks a lot like my Albert 1970. The inside has many great features. Thank you for the video

Yes. Ethanol with up to 5% methanol... enough to kill you if you drank it.
I really like Articos! I’m so looking forward to your adventures both at sea and building your new home. All the best!
Great Boat and the price is Very reasonable, that boat can go anywhere but you know that. Blessings.
Good deal, for sure! Fair winds.
Great choice
i will pray that your plans all fall into place. God bless
I am so excited by the prospect of watching you build your own boat. That will be amazing.
How exciting guys
Your new little boat looks quite cozy. I’m sure it feels like a roller skates to you. 🤣. This could be a starter boat for you daughter. Like passing cars down in a family. Love your family adventures. Thanks. 💞☮️

Just sat watching after a long day sailing, enjoying an Absolut vodka and tonic. Coincidence!
Our 1985, 33 foot boat had more storage than our newer 41 foot boat. I think you found a good one there.
That is a solid boat.!
God bless your woman that she ‘goes with the flow’. She’s awesome. 👍🏻
Lovely looking boat. My mum had a vanderstat when I was a child and we had super sailing holidays cruising ireland and Brittany.
Amazing price! Have fun.
What a great deal for a solid blue water boat! This lifestyle appeals to me... would like to give it a go.
You guys got me! Its going to be some great episodes!!
I'll be looking out when you put this one on the market. It will suit us just splendidly!!

Reminds me of the Albin Vega 27 of the same vintage. Some were circumnavigators !
