I would see this on netflix as a kid and be like "that must be so silly and random" now i firmly believe watching frankenhooker at fourteen would've changed my life
If you don't already watch Dragula, their challenge this week was... Frankenhooker! Seriously had me wondering if y'all we're going to promote them or something, just a weird coincedence it seems (all of these things are planned and filmed so far in advance).
Elizabeth's performance besides her moving like boris karloff is clearly inspired by the Bride of Frankenstein those bird like movements when she first wakes up are just like her
@@skratchisrandom5596 I personally have some reservations on Mulvey's theory but Frankenhooker works well within the parameters of the male gaze, esp with its visualization of the Freudian castration anxiety. I thought the film used the male gaze as a cheeky way to comment on itself and then used the creation of the Frankenhooker character to subvert this gaze, further punctuated by a possible queer reading for the ending (see Gracie Bain's "Frankenbitch[es]" essay on Film/Literature Quarterly).
I watched this for a movie club and honestly? I would call Frankenhooker “The Modern Pygmalion” with how much Jeff focuses on creating the most attractive woman and not “the most accurate Elizabeth”.
I recently actually read Frankenstein for the first time, and this movie is such a fun take. Neither protagonist is a good person, but there's no story without them, so... yay? Awesome kill count.

This is the type of movie you introduce your friends to on Halloween night without giving them any context or warnings prior you just say something like “Hey we’re going to watch a Frankincense movie tonight but there’s a catch to it.” like you don’t even tell them the movie’s title you just sit back and watch them watch and try and understand whatever the hell you just made them watch all together

Dragula episode of the week made me put this on the watchlist. Today I saw you posted this Kill Count and had to stop at the middle, because seeing Angel explode from "super-crack" sold me on the fact that I needed to watch the movie itself first. Great experience, thank you, James!
