- In this video, I show you how I duplicated my favorite knit dress by creating a pattern and using this knit fabric that I got from Britex Fabrics. Lots of tips and tricks (and figuring it out along the way) to create what is now my very favorite handmade garment I've ever made. Long live the knit dress!

The fact that you did this without deconstructing the original, is a game changer! I have a favorite summer knit dress that I always wished was available in other colors. I can’t wait to give this a try! I don’t have a serger, but I think if I zigzag the edges, I can make it work.
Thank you!! You explain the steps so fully. You take away lots of my anxiety about a project like this.
This was an amazing video!!! I am LOVING your videos lately for sure!! You are zeroing in on such practical projects that we can do with EXCELLENT instructions!!!!
This is amazing!!! I’ve heard of using favorite clothes for a template, but was always intimidated to try! Thank you!!!
You are so welcome!
Love the way you show how to make your own templates. Now I have to go through my closet to see what I want to make! Love the fabric you picked for your new dress!
Never seen those magnets.Great idea. You're amazing and so talented ❤
Thank you! Cheers!
Love the magnets!🧲
I wanted to do this for so long! I know how you iron a paper bag you make this so so accessible! I did cringe when the sharpie got close to your top but you know what you’re doing! Thanks for giving me the courage! ❤️🌈❤️
You look amazing in that white color! Also I have been meaning to copy my fave dress as a template for a dress for weeks so you read my mind. Thanks!!!
Perfect! Love the twin needle. You look fabulous. A+++
Oooh, it looks so neat and like it came right off the hanger, awesome!
I just remembered that I have a sweater dress pattern I need to dig out (where the heck did I put it?!). I'm absolute trash for sweaters and will happily claim so lol.
I've been meaning to try out this way of drafting for a while now, so maybe this video will be the kick in the butt I need.
I love this so much! You make it look so easy. I think I might have to try myself.
You can do it!
Looks really good on you! I wouldn't have been brave enough to use a black marker pen to trace round a cream dress though!!

OMG magnets!! Christmas a few years back my grandkids were going to visit their dad in NY in January.. we’re in California.. so for Christmas I made them more weather appropriate pajama pants using their pants as a pattern.. I used Christmas wrapping paper to draw the pattern on.. after Christmas it went on sale so I bought some rolls real cheap for making patterns on.. I’m more of a quilter so I never used it but the idea was one to pass on it works great.. not too thin.. very affordable!!
Congratulations on a successful sew. You look great.😊
Loved your video Mathew! It’s such a great way to make a garment from one you already love and know fits! ❤❤
Pure genius!! I'm going to try this technique. And your new sweater dress is ab fab!!!!! It looks perfect on you!!
Matthew, you look fabulous. You have lost so much weight. I’m on a weight loss journey myself currently, and I have hit 30 pounds out of 50, and it will probably be another six months before I’m done. I just want to tell you that whatever you’re doing is working great. I have been enjoying this new channel that you’ve been doing.
I have just found this! I think you are brilliant!! ❤❤❤
I've done this. You make it look easy! lol. I have also taken worn out clothing (favorites) and deconstructed (used my seam ripper) and used that as a pattern adding seam allowance as needed.
Thank you so much for this video. I really enjoyed it and it answered so many questions. Wishing you continued happiness🙏❤️🥰
now you have me wanting to make a sweater dress! i have some mochi minky that might be perfect for it!
Sheesh Mathew, you're looking so gorgeous! More importantly, you radiate serenity and contentment. I'm so happy to see it. BTW, I've done the pin-hole method to copy a garment. It's great!
It looks great I’m afraid to work with stretchy fabric.. I need to get over that..
Wonderful!!!
Im so glad youtube algorithm brought your video to me 😊..New sub! Im watching all your videos..and loving it❤❤

So cool! Thank you🤓
I love this video! You have broken down the process so even I can do this. Thanks for the inspiration.I have a dress made out of t-shirt material like a heavy interlock. Would this work with that as well as what you did with the knit? I'm excited to try this.🥰
Love that you tell us all the steps as you do them, I learned a lot. Which brand wooly nylon did you use? How did you wind it on the bobbin? What was your machine settings for twin needle ?
You make the pattern making look so easy I just may have to jump in and try it for a favorite.
P.S. Love the nail polish color.
You can do it!
Thanks for the positivity
While i love this idea, and I'm sure I'll love the whole video... But I've made it as far as where you're drawing your template with what looks to be like a sharpie... I'm legit praying that it will not touch your original garment that you love!! May I highly recommend using frixion pens or even crayola water based markers so the garment doesn't accidentally get sharpie on it... Ok, now to resume watching 😂😂
Edit... I'm done watching the video, and love how well and easily you show and explain everything!! I see that you have a frixion pen which is awesome!! I know that you're using a sharpie so that people can see it... But definitely stand by my point of using something washable like a crayola marker... At least for the newbies who may be extra nervous tracing out their favourite garment!! I know i would be heckin’ crushed if i all of a sudden had black sharpie on my favourite item!!
Final verdict, dress looks AWESOME!! Also thanks for the reminder that I have a sewing machine and should really bring it over to my new place (its still at home with my parents) 😂!
Thank you very much!! Soooo helpful! Question: did you use stretchy thread in bobbin for hems? And how many serger threads? Thanks!
What kind of stitch did you use on the serger? I have a server but have never used it and don’t know what the different stitches do.
How do I order your fabric?
