Finally someone that shows how to replicate your clothes using something different than a t-shirt or shorts to show it!!!! I wanted to replicate a velvet jacket and all I could find were t-shirts!!!! Thank YOU!!!
I wondered how to trace the back and front of a neckline without taking the garment apart. I've been stressing about this and your method of using pins, with soft fabric underneath, is the perfect solution. Now I can continue with my project. Thank you.
You make it look easy. I knew about needle tracing, but your video was what made it look possible. Thank you. I also add 1 inch seam allowance when I don’t know how much I will cut later. :-)
I really like using pins to outline the garment pieces, it would be more accurate than tracing around the curves & awkward to trace areas/seams. I was just going to take the shirt apart & use those pieces for the pattern. There’s a catch from when our puppy jumped on me & made a small but noticeable hole in the centre front.
I learned shibori dyeing from an artist in Cambridge, MA who made silk scarves and showed how to tie them. This comment feels full-circle, thanks for watching
I wish I found this video awhile ago. I tried making some Wool Pants modeled after my favorite Sweatpants. The Push Pins through the fabric to the pattern would have yielded much better results for me. The "Behind and Crotch" area came out too tight with my method. Good thing I used a low quality Wool Blend Fabric on my first attempt. I view my mistakes as a learning opportunity. Thanks for the Tutorial!
I have this old canvas Timberline (I think) men's jacket I adore. I've had it now for almost 22 years and would hate to lose it. Bought for $5.00 at a garage sale and have often wondered how to replicate it.On me it looks oversized yet stylish. Its about the only time I look stylish is when I wear it LMAO!!! So glad I found your channel. I might even try it in leather.
This was great, thank you! Do you not bother with marking grain lines, or do you just use the straight edges you have as a replacement? I would love to know because I’ve never had the confidence to do anything like this before, but I would love to.
I probably should... but I actually don't know that much about using the fabric grain! I really wanted to just give it a shot and see if I could manage to put something together. I'll definitely be doing more research!
Hi Sabrina! You can add extra width/length when you're tracing for your seam allowance! 1/2" per size (xs-s-m-l) should work. You can also use something cheap (like muslin) to whip together sample to see if the sizing feels right, and see where you need to adjust. Hope that helps!
Hi, thanks for the video. I actually want to make a pair of shorts exactly like my old pair. I want to take them entirely apart to get exact measurements. Wouldn't taking them apart be the best way for this? And if so, is there an actual term for taking them apart, because I can't find any teachings on doing it that way? Thank you!
shorts are a little trickier, but you might be able to do it without taking them apart! You'll just want to lay your garments as flat as possible to get the shapes of the pieces right. you can also practice using a cheaper fabric - like muslin to make a 'practice' version to see where you can improve the pattern once you have it pulled. Hope that makes sense!

Glad you liked it!
Loved your video! The tip to lay something soft underneath and use pins 🙌🏾 Best cloning video I’ve watched. Thank you for using a complex garment ❤
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching! Xo

CLONE IT ALL! I LOVE IT
*turns all the blankets into clothes*
Wow! The needle-trace! THANKS, this is the trick of the year, superb.
Glad it was helpful!
I’ve watched SOOOOO many garment cloning videos and read many an article and this is my favorite video. So cool! Finally it looks so easy.
You can do it! This jacket was a little bit complicated when I tried to put it together, but start simple and you'll get the hang of it!
Easiest method I have seen, thank you for this tutorial ! I will definitely give it a try.
Have fun!

Glad it helped! Use a piece of cardboard underneath and t-pin! Fatter holes make them easier to see!
I can definitely say this is the easiest cloning tutorial video I have watched! Thank you so much for this.
Thanks for watching!
Thank you - you have no idea how happy I am to find you👍👍💃🏻💃🏻
Happy you enjoyed it!

Brilliant video. The technique for adding fabric for buttons is just great!!!

Yesssss! I love the shape of the jacket I 'cloned' in the video. It has holes in it now, so I'm glad I pulled the pattern :)

Brought back memories from apparel skills in high School
Fun! I wish my high school had an apparel class!
Love the idea by copyright the form with needles and making holes into the paper. Really easy way to copy. Thank you for sharing! 😊
Thanks for watching!
Great video. You don't need to make patterns for both sleeves, though it does make estimating fabric yardage slightly easier
You're absolutely right! You can totally just flip and trace the reverse, I wanted to show all pattern pieces for the purposes of the how-to.
Your collar stand which holds the collar should be identical or you would have an uneven coat when buttoning your coat.
I copied the collar from my existing coat, and it seemed even to me in the assembly, but I'll keep it in mind for next time!
thanks for this tutorial
Thanks for watching!
Love that original jacket. I see why you’re cloning it. Lol 🤌🏾🤌🏾
Thanks! It's totally threadbare now :(
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Very nice. You have such a sturdy hand.
😊 thank you

Thank you so much for posting this great instructional video 🧵🪡🩷

Wow. I didn't even know this was possible.
Anything is possible if you just ~believe~
great video. thanks.
Glad you liked it!
Hi Justine! How do you do it if you're recreating clothes you can't fit anymore?
Hi Sabrina! You can add extra width/length when you're tracing for your seam allowance! 1/2" per size (xs-s-m-l) should work. You can also use something cheap (like muslin) to whip together sample to see if the sizing feels right, and see where you need to adjust. Hope that helps!
Thank you for showing a method where you dont need a tracing wheel and is more accurate.
Big fan of working with what you have instead of buying more tools!
Iqant to replicate denim shorts but with all the details as well as a pair of pants, but i also have to size them up.
GOOD WORK!!!! why not cut on fold?
You can definitely do that! I guess I was just trying to simplify the process for the sake of the how-to :)
Was the second part ever posted of seeing final product?
Yes! It's linked below! sorry for delayed reply!

Thank you! Very helpful.

👍
About how long would you say it took you to make the pattern?
An hour-ish! this jacket is actually pretty simple!
@@JustineSilva thank you for responding!
Hi, thanks for the video.

I want to take them entirely apart to get exact measurements.
