    The hardest & scariest sewing moment in my life was cutting up a brand new Pendleton blanket to craft a blanket coat for Native friend's birthday present.

    The FRINGE is what makes it!!!! That. AND the fact that it's not a "box" ...your length is fantastic! Good
    job. 🎉

    I love the pattern of the blanket, it's elaborate but since the colours are a bit muted, it's not distracting.
    A nice statement piece. I may also try this. 😊😊😊😊

    That came out amazing! I value handmade, so I’m conflicted saying that looks store-bought, but I think you know what I mean. It looks professionally designed, with the pattern placement, use of the fringe, etc. 🎉🙌👏👏👏

      I was the same way! I really wanted to make one but wasn't too fond of the fleece or quilted styles. However, this blanket SCREAMED coat, so I knew I had to do it.

    Great job, great jacket. I love it with that hat! I have a basic model sewing machine that has an overlock stitch that looks, in my opinion, better than what you get from a serger, as you don’t get the bulk of three or four threads. Or you could use the old-fashioned zig-zag on the cut-out pieces before putting them together.

    • @KatieMakesStuff
      @KatieMakesStuff  8 месяцев назад +1

      I think when I do this again I'm going to use a zig zag stitch, although another commenter said my machine has something similar to a serger...

    Great coat and great work! Your machine has so many stitches, I’ll bet it has an overcast/overlock one and maybe even an overcast foot. I couldn’t see the model details clearly but if your machine is a singer quantum stylist 9960, details are on page 58 of the user manual (yep, I looked it up - detail-oriented problem solver here 😁). With heavyweight material or thick layers, it can be helpful to use a thicker needle &/or sew slower but your machine is designed to sew garments including coats. You could finish the edges before you attach the sleeves (when it’s a single layer of fabric) &/or attach the sleeves before sewing up the side seams (easier to finish or bind the edges THEN do side seams). Some options anyway. 🐜

      @@KatieMakesStuff 😁😇Glad you think it might be helpful. Have fun storming the castle! If you’re on a roll, you might like to check out the blind hem stitch (& foot if you have one) for other projects. It makes a massive difference to hemming - almost invisible and heaps nicer than straight stitch. Doesn’t seem to be well known though. All the best for your explorations ☺️

    Very nice coat! I'm a , hmm, don't quite know how to rank my sewing skills, beginner but I've sewed on and off for years, so novice? Anyway, you made it look easy! I've got about 3 blankets id like to make into coats or ponchos.

    • @KatieMakesStuff
      @KatieMakesStuff  8 месяцев назад +1

      The hardest part of this was the collar, but I think a new-ish sewer could make it without much trouble. Ponchos are super easy; you just need to finish the edges. Regardless, I hope your efforts are successful and I wish I could see the final products!
