    My daughter is a lefty and I have always provided her lefty scissors, even when she was young and they were so pricey! As she hit teendom I bought her a good pair of Fiskars fabric scissors, also lefty. Now she has moved out of home I was sure to include a pair of lefty scissors in her stuff. If anyone who's right handed has ever tried to cut using regular scissors with their left hand they'd understand just how hard it is and how appropriate tools are important to people who need them. The pair you shared from LDH look dreamy!

    Thank you, Lisa! I really enjoy these videos. I have made one pattern from Tiana's closet. It was the Gilian front ruched dress. I need a full bicep adjustment there, but otherwise it is a lovely dress. Very minimal instructions, though. It is only a short list of basic instructions, like Burda style. I would maybe hesitate to try a very complicated pattern there, but for the more basic ones, it is fine.

    I saw the Angie Tank today from Lydia Naomi and downloaded it right away. I can see it being a great stash buster and it looks like it might be reversible.
    I have made the Common Stitch no waste dress and I really enjoyed the.pattern. the pattern.The elastic brings it in and it's basically measuring out one rectangle plus the channels for the elastic. I used a broderie anglaise with a beautiful scalloped hem. It also removed one of the channels to make it fit like I wanted, so it's easy to modify.

    • @Lisamakes
      @Lisamakes  Год назад

      Good to know! I’m sure it’s gorgeous in broderie anglaise. I bet it would be cute hacked to top length, too.

  • @jeanlinder1310
    @jeanlinder1310 Год назад

    As someone who prefers things to fit very well, there are a lot of zero or low-waste designs that I will not make, or won't wear outside of the house, because they tend to be very boxy. However, that said, I think they are a fantastic idea and some of them are very cute! I have made the Cris Wood Sews Parasol Dress and it's very comfy and cute. I also want to make a bog jacket for fall. The zero waste designs you showed here look a lot nicer than some I've seen. Not zero waste, but George & Ginger Patterns has some freebies that are actually unique! Most of them are in the "Old Size Chart" section.

    I always enjoy your free patterns Vlogs. I have made a pair of zero waste pants and didn't really like the fit. the zero waste was partially making bigger seams, so there was much more fabric on the inside. I save all my scraps for making a poof so nothing goes to waste.

    The Maya ruffle dress is a tutorial and you can insert your own measurements. I've made s few of them and with the right fabric it is very beautiful.
    Tiny rant: free patterns are a marketing tool and having a small size range tells me the company isn't interested in my business. I even find it a little insulting when sizing is pretty limited.

    • @Lisamakes
      @Lisamakes  Год назад +2

      Totally fair rant. I go back and forth on which patterns I should include and I which I shouldn’t. There are often patterns I don’t share for that reason, but I feel that if within the video there is a good size range then I can include a few that are less so- especially if the pattern has extra ease or seems easily adjustable. I do hear you, though. ❤️

    On zero waste patterns: what is the use of making something that does not flatter your shape, or is not to your taste, just for the sake of it? Rather do Less Waste, or Cut this way to have enough left to make whatever. Ultimately, all of that fabric in the boxy, ruffly dress is still going to end up the same place as the fabric and leftovers of the fitted, princess seam dress. I am not against the Zero Waste idea at all, but not just for the sake of Zero Waste 😊
