When my tools were stolen a good friend gave me this drill which was faulty but allowed me to work until I could buy new. It’s sat in my garage gathering dust, thinking the field winding and the armature would be too expensive to replace.
My surprise was there was a permanent magnet for the field.
@ £35 for an armature, I’ll be replacing it, hopefully the gearbox won’t present too many damaged parts when I strip it down.
We often get similar items at our local Repair Café. I urge you to volunteer, we need more people to stop items going to land fill.

Thanks for the video. I hope it will help me when changing the brushes. Just a thought though. When you dismantled you remove gear box whilst the armature was left in place. When you reassembled you mated the armature to the gearbox before seating the gearbox. I believe you did this to align the two by moving the armature. Couldn't you have reseated the armature and then twisted the chuck to align the armature splines?
Good video so thanks for giving me the inspiration to have a go.

I probably could have done that but have never done it that way before

      I
Thanks for replying so quickly. I tried to do it that way myself a shortwhile ago. One thing I hadn't realised, these are very torque motors (60Nm), try as I might there is no way of turning that gearbox over without some other mechanical intervention! It certainly made appreciate what a small motor and gearbox can produce! @@doctorlefthandthread

Depends where you are sometimes they are available on ebay but not always. If you look up authorised Dewalt repair centres in your area they might sell them to you. Thanks for your comment 👍
