I Fixed My Hilti Battery (And It Worked!)
Просмотров 4637 часов назад
In this video, I troubleshoot and repair a Hilti 21.6V 8.0Ah battery that was not working or charging. Initial testing showed it was only outputting 19.83 volts. Upon further inspection, I discovered that this was a refurbished battery from Lupo, with full voltage across the cell banks. After removing the top casing, I found a broken connection. Using nickel strip, solder, and spot welding, I q...

Powerstack Vs Ordinary Battery Teardown comparison
Thanks, now I can finally take my guard off
About that “hog ring”…my wife had to leave the second time I shot it across the room. I notice there is a flat spot on the shaft above the groove where that thing fits. I had a heck of a time removing it and the same hard time replacing it. Then, I put the opening of the hog ring 180° from that flat spot. Voila! I put it back on and took it off again in seconds. If I was only smart enough to make a video so I could show you. Without your video I’d have needed a whole new impact driver, so thank you!
I appreciate the comment thank you
What’s the worst that could actually happen with lithiums that small. Maybe just maybe you could manage to blind yourself if you’re a special kind of stupid but other than that.. it starts smoking just step back?
This video is bs
WhatsApp me the link to that cell wrap and isolator card on positive end got so many cells that need ti to be able to use just haven’t found a good quality one.
Sure will
🤡 you only live once
Damn, its freezing in your workshop. Theres fog coming out of your mouth.
Yeah, thanks. It was early in the morning before the heat got going. I usually use that as a guide. If I see my breath, put the heating on.

You live in NJ? Ill ship the hilti vacuum to you lol
No sir over on the emerald isle here
Not gonna clean the parts first
The short answer is No The long answer is I have limited time and resources so I gotta cut corners take shortcuts etc.I just go in fix the thing that is wrong and get out. This saves time and money as some of these things are not always high value to buy new. Where I am from it's called the old country fix.
How much would it cost on a certain chinese site?
About £10 plus delivery
👍
Thank great advice
You are so welcome!
4:39 give it a lil slap and say the magic words "it aint goin nowhere"
Lol yeah
Just did one of mine. Worked perfect. Thanks
Great to hear!
Replaced the plastic?
Yes
You're a funny guy 😅 you actually made a tag with #solderingtips 😂
Lol yeah I also call myself a doctor 😅
True story, I've owned most of the top brands for decades of commercial/hobby use. ONLY DeWalt tools thus far needed me to service them! NEVER another tool brand and I loved the brand till...
Thanks for commenting on the video
Great video! Are you working on the ground for safety reasons?
Yes and I didn't have my workshop and wooden bench at the time a metal bench is a no no
Cam I use bearing grease (white lithium grease) for everything?
Not everything most things
@doctorlefthandthread where can't I use it? if it's a long list then I would rather not bother you ☺️ thank you
@@vcommandarv5916 in my opinion you need to use a lighter grease in the hammer mechanism in DCH273 SDS Drill
You are missing a spring and washer on the connecting rod in the DCH273. Number 52 and 53 on the parts drawing.
Some have the spring some don't
@@doctorlefthandthread Pretty sure they all have it from new. But it goes bye bye once the rod snaps.
I found that the safety trigger wears and won't allow the saw to operate. I opened up the saw and removed the top safety trigger and it works every time.
No- but this is insane? Haha what the hell. Fuck me, I really thought this was going to be a simple fix. God- what awful design choices for the battery, but great patience my guy.
Did it work? Do you just leave it on all night?
It works can be hard on the charger to leave it on all night though. There is another way too a b6 balance charger I will do a video on that sometime.
Awesome videos! Just came across your channel. I have a hilti cordless vacuum 22-Volt VC 75-1-A2, i checked all parts for continuity and seemed good. But it wont turn on cant figure out why can u help please ?
Is the motor working? Does the switch work ?
@@doctorlefthandthread motor is good . Switch has continuity . I think its The battery port but im not sure how to test it
@@antg7181 If it is a brushed motor just hook it straight to the battery and switch skiping the controller. You should be fine, its just a vacuum
Does it matter what type of charger is used ?
That's a lithium-ion cell charger you can use a b6 balance charger too
I would die if I tried that
Don't do it stay safe buddy
Living on the edge of danger 😂 but sparking like usual 👍
Lmao!
This guy doesnt understand who hes talking to 😂
To be fair, the first time I tried to clean up old spot welds with one it threw a sand-sized grain of nickel strip into the rim where the positive terminal is isolated from the negative body where it shorted and glowed red-hot. There was no isolator ring after extracting the cell because it was a whole isolator sheet that stayed in the rest of the pack.
How do you determind what Volt and Amp is set to on each battery for the dc power supply.
If your voltage is real low on an 18v or 20v Battery set the DC power supply to about 17v 2 amps maximum should bring it up nice and gently
Ok, I have to mess the V between 1750-1800 and Amp fr 2500-3000. My 6ah flex battery that was no bar now have 2 bars but it still won't charge on the charger. Will let it charge on the DC supply more. How come even with 2 bars it won't go fully charge.
@@Dolliehomee dead cells? cell imbalance ? Broken connection
I open up all my flexvolt battery and the connections are all shiny just dusty but I clean all them out. I set it to 20v and 3amp and let it charge until it reach 20V now I have a fully charge battery. Doing this for all my flexvolt and hope they are all good. I bought 5 6ah flexvolt non working battery from ebay for $20 each. From the looks of these battery, they all have clean contacts and connections.
Glad it wasnt just me you picked on (405 needs skip) lol
Lol yeah everyone gets a touch
Someone of these people want information spoon-fed to them like children
I can't disagree
I got some 6ah and 9ah flexvolt battery with 1 bar and 2 bars. The 2 bars battery, it will charge but will not charge up to 3 bars. How do you know what volt(V) # and Amp(A)# to set on the DC power supply? I don't know so I just put the same # like you did here. I charge the battery with no bars, after 5hr plus, it is showing one bar. I shut it off and try to charge it in the battery charger but it is still not charging. I hook it back on the dc power supply to charge now why is my (A)amp and my (W)watt display is reading zero?
Didn’t show what’s wrong, didn’t show what was fixed. Useless video. You unbolted the back and bolted it back together..
Point taken, the full repair video is now linked to the bottom of the screen

Ecelente gracias
Thank you
Nice video, but would.like more specific detail on what was changed. Also, more visuals.
Those larger nickel tabs were a pain to de solder. I ended up just cutting the board to get them free. 😅
Yeah probably saved time
My battery shows 0 when i test while touching the nickles, but when i test while touching the 2 sides of the battery itself it gives a reading that is consistent with the others, does that still mean that the battery is bad?
Check the black wire coming out of the board follow it to the cell to see if the nickel is burned through

Hello. Is it common for these to start smoking if you keep the trigger pulled when it's experiencing the same fault?
Not that I have seen
@doctorlefthandthread sorry it's the dch253 I have got looks like a set of brushes will take it apart and find out lol
@@hammy1988 Yes the DCH253 has a brushed motor it is likely to be smoking if the brushes and maybe the armature need changing
I had most of it figured out, but the casing would not fit back together. I had your video playing while I disassembled everything again and found the notch for the motor while playing with everything. I looked up just in time to see your work the motor until it set. Works like it's brand new! Thanks for taking the time to make the video.
Thanks for commenting on the video it all helps
Slow down dude.
You sound like my wife
I have ready have it ready for a few months ago
Easier to buy the battery clip repair set earlier so you don’t destroy your tools …. Was around £10 per battery
What is the set you are referring to?
Handy, but I have transitioned all my Dewalt to brushless, except for a couple DCG412s and a right angle drill.Even got the new Brushless 54v hedgetrimmer!
Yeah, this set suits me. I still get a lot of corded machines and all sorts of stuff. I used a set out of it last night to fix a berg mixing drill. I couldn't get brushes for
You brute 😂
