Ove my 462!! Just a firewood guy mostly with occasional dropping of big trees and it is awesome!! Run mine with 25" & 28"..put on 20" on sometime...similar to a light sabor!😂
You have some really nice logs to test out your new beast of a saw. Very, very sweet saw. She pulls and pushes and over time you will hardly notice it. The only time you may not like it as much is when you are sharpening it, there are a lot more teeth than the 261. One thing to note is that when you are bending over the log to see the tip you don't want to be throttling because if the tip comes into contact with the ground or the log pinches it you may experience some severe kickback with your face and or body in the way. You really only need to cut a little on the backside then level the saw and let it do the work. It's usually when the log is bigger than the width of the bar you reach over then come back to level. Have a great day and enjoy that beautiful saw!
That was some nice size timber! I bet you can wait to fall some big ones with 462! I like the longer bar for felling and limbing myself! The less bending over the better!!

@@GPOutdoors 50 70 and a 90cc saw when you 😉get into big wood would make a good trio. If you want to go lighter you could lose the log tape when cutting firewood.🤪
Glad you're liking it Gord. She'll definitely wake up a little after a few tanks of fuel through it. When cutting try just keeping the bar level and let the weight of the saw melt through the wood. You won't get that biting and grabbing you're experiencing when you pull back after you're initial forward tilt. I can see how you would do that with the less powerful 261 but that 462 has the power and weight to just go straight through the wood. You know Gord, I certainly don't really have the need for a saw with that kind of capability, but after watching that thing chew through those logs....I WANT one anyway!!! 👍😎 Cheers my friend!

Great video and saw Gord, looks like you wanted to stand on a stump and call all challengers to a duel, Huskies beware there is a new Stihl in town which is 33 years older than the Huskie brand of saws. Cheers and stay safe. Pete
Hello there fellow Canadian! Just want to drop a few words. I live near Ottawa on the Qc side (10 minutes from downtown Ottawa). I own a 10 acre piece of land which I hope to do a little bit of everything. I love your channel and think you do an amazing job explaining your stuff. Once again, well done and good job.
Gord, can you tell me what a good Aggressive cutting chain would be for an 18" bar. Something that cuts taking out alot of wood. Do they make a chain like this ? WOW that new saw is Great, lots of power ! Good Video, Gord.
Good morning Stanley - I am not super informed on the different chains but I know that chain with the green dot on the box ( the ones I use - they are more "friendly" for someone like myself) - they are designed to minimize the chance of kickback so I believe are not as aggressive. I believe the more aggressive profile chains are the ones with the Yellow dot on the box. But best to ask your guy at your local saw shop for sure. Sorry i could not help more. Cheers!
I've got the CS-590 and am really happy with it, too. I got a great deal on it 5 years ago and it has served me well along with a bunch of other Echo equipment. Good sized logs there.. would be awesome for a sawmill!! Congrats on the saw! I love mine.. the vibrations are pretty intense and so is the weight if you do long hours but for those large logs it's the only way to go!

LOL! Good morning and thanks for watching George! I have to get my digs in at Guy and Huskie Bob cause they are always ribbing me about my STIHL. :)) Thanks for tuning in and have a great week!
The reason you could not find any huskies in the woods is simple. One they are produced in a manner that allows them to be purchased when they are needed. Two they are fast and their owners are motivated so the work was done when it should have been done not in the middle of the summer. Thirdly they are all busy making a wooden stock aid for JT! To of course just to keep him safe!
Well glad you got a new saw even though it is a Stihl. The Husky’s you reference are old not the new 5 series which are far superior to the old ones Husky Bob runs. Try a Husqvarna 592 XP when you want to feel real power😀 Husky’s are just smoother and faster. Both are great saws.
I know im way late here. I must say weight is relative though. Just depends on what you compare it against. Going from an old 075 this was a treat. And going from a 575xp it felt the same ish.
LOL! Truth is he took 4 of them on me for the mill John! He got a big laugh when he saw me out there trying to find the bigger ones I stored there. Then smiled and said "Mill. Sorry". LOL!
Dude, nice saw! A little advice here, it'll speed up your cutting. You will find that it cuts faster NOT pivoting the saw while you cut. Keep the bar horizontal all the way thru the cut. It's a lot more efficient than pivoting because when you pivot the saw back to make the final cut, the bar is only cutting a few pinches of wood. When you keep your bar horizontal all the way thru the cut, you are always putting the maximum amount of wood on the bar - resulting in a very efficient cut. Just try it for a while, you'll soon see what I'm talking about. Anyhow, have a great weekend!!
LOL. Thanks Todd. Yup, I have been corrected a few times - I think it's just my Canadian accent ( or I just have a hard time getting it out pronounced correctly. :)) Have a good weekend out there!
GP, not sure if you looked into this, but Stihl makes outer felling Spikes for the 462 clutch cover. It helps straighten the cuts out…they are inexpensive and very helpful Stihl part# 0000-660-0801
Just a suggestion: after your cut you immediately put on the brake. A-ok. Come the next cut you release the brake and immediately start the cut.... I would rev it once before dropping the saw in the wood so as to get some oil on the bar, at least in wood that is almost as large as the bar. Cheers ~
It’s a chainsaw that’s made to go wide open I just put a little extra oil in my fuel for the first 3 tanks or so. Try to cut smaller stuff too helps I think for first tank anyway.
You will notice a significant increase in power after the 2nd or 3rd take of gas. I have gotten in the habit of checking the chain tension after making the first 5-10 cuts. The longer chain expands more with the heat. I also loosen the chain tension each time once I am done cutting.
Well Gord I hope it’s everything I said it would be and you’re not disappointed! Remember it’s like a dance partner don’t let “her lead” and pull you in, your the boss hang on and enjoy the ride.😂 Have fun and be safe, you’ve waited a long time for this date.
@@EyeWokeVisuals Hey thanks EW! Just for reference, STIHL only sells the C-M and C-M R models in Canada (The R being the version with the heated handle). All models only show the "C" on the brand logo on the saw. The manual for the saw itself that came with my saw, does however, identify it as the C-M model. Hope that is helpful. Enjoy the long weekend out there!
GP you look like a kid on Christmas morning. Good that you're wearing some face protection. I knew a guy that I worked with years ago had a scar going across his face through his eye down his cheek where the chainsaw kickback and hit him in his face. Thanks for the video. Michael
@@GPOutdoors Enjoy your new saw! Why do you always dog saw in and crank them over the top in beginning cut? You should be able to just basically set the saw on a log and it's own weight will do the work. I have not seen anyone cut with this technique before and just wondered what is gained by the dogging in and cranking saw over so hard? Usually when I have seen this is when a saw is dull and someone is trying to force it to cut but I know you have sharp saws. Have a great weekend and guess I will have to wait till the 66k saw giveaway!😃
@@waynetharp A good question my friend which I will address in an upcoming video. short answer - I watch alot of chainsaw training channels - stihl, huskie, echo, WorkSafe BC Feller Training, WorkSafe Australia, Bucking Billy Rae, Cotton Top etc to try to understand better how to fell , buck etc - If I allow the saw to fall under its own weight I then have to hold the saw back from the log ( or the dogs will dig in) through the whole cut - meaning I have to use my muscles to fight back against the power of the saw trying to pull in. After too many hours, this is exhausting. If I allow the saw to bite in and allow the dogs to let it pivot, it is virtually weightless. Also, most logs, even when on the ground ( which is usually uneven) will have some tension/compression when you cut - pivoting through down will help when I do the finish cut, and minimize pinching the bar. Hey, no expert here but just seems to work better for me, in most - not all- conditions. Thanks again and take care!
@@GPOutdoors Roll over the top if the bar is shorter than the dia of the log or when relieving tension/compression, when saw pinched and you wedged the saw out you could see the log sagging long before it pinched which had you pulled out sooner and switched to a under cut. Yes even Husky owners sometimes pinch the bar.😁
Just got mine 3months later dealer let me have it for $1100 that was the price when i called him $1309 is what im seeing now so i got a great saw at a good price its bad ass.
Congrats on your new gal! Very nice saw, but it seems a bit short on power, as @05:00?! 🤔🙄😂 Seriously, how much time on it/tanks of fuel, prior to making this video? Stihl saws as you know, really come into their own after 5-6 tanks of fuel. Now you just need to get those outer felling spikes installed! Always enjoy your well made videos, and your nice easy going attitude. Best to you, and stay safe and Healthy! 👍👍👍✌😊
HI George. You saw my first buck. LOL. I don't rehearse or practice before turning on record. We both got to do it together. So just passed through my first tankful, and had to tighten the chain already. The short on power? nope, that was me trying to force it /twist the bar guide in the curf. It's a natural habit I have so I have been trying to consciously stop. Don't know why but I tend to apply pressure from the left hand for some reason. I'm getting better - :)) Thanks!
@@GPOutdoors Thanks for the replies! 😊 Oh NO Gord, was just kidding you about the power. That’s a heckuva saw, even if it isn’t a Huskie! LOL! Truth is he took 4 of them on me for the mill John! He got a big laugh when he saw me out there trying to find the bigger ones I stored there. Then smiled and said "Mill. Sorry". LOL!
This is quickly becoming my new favorite channel...boy Mike M is gonna be mad if he ever finds out?
Hey good morning Bruce - thanks for the advice - I will give it a shot soon. Cheers!
Yes sir
I have the MS261C -18" and MS462C -25" lw
Best combo IMHO.
:)) 😀
To quote Tim Allen...oh oh oh oh !
If your 462 wakes up like my Husqvarna 572xp, you'll be extremely happy with how it performs.
Thanks Doctor! It jumps when I touch the trigger. Something I need to get used to for sure. have a good one!
Bought 6-7 tanks you'll notice zip!! Another thing my brother finally convinced me to try Amsoil Saber oil...it's the shit!!
Wish I had that baby! Just an FYI as someone who worked in Oregon for 25 years... its pronounced Or-e-gun, not or-e-gone :)
LOL. Thanks Todd. Yup, I have been corrected a few times - I think it's just my Canadian accent ( or I just have a hard time getting it out pronounced correctly. :)) Have a good weekend out there!
You're in Canada.....I didn't think you could have an "every day carry" 😁
LOL!
Nice saw GP, did u have a Lazer for cutting length or did you mark pre cut?
GP, not sure if you looked into this, but Stihl makes outer felling Spikes for the 462 clutch cover. It helps straighten the cuts out…they are inexpensive and very helpful
Stihl part# 0000-660-0801
Thanks Ryan - I will take a look soon - thanks for providing the part number too!
I went with West Coast Saws 3 point dogs and their bark box..try em you'll like em!!
Just a suggestion: after your cut you immediately put on the brake. A-ok.
Come the next cut you release the brake and immediately start the cut....
I would rev it once before dropping the saw in the wood so as to get some oil on the bar, at least in wood that is almost as large as the bar.
Cheers ~
Now that s a saw !,, Is there a break in procedure?
Hey C2! No - not at all - just run it - full throttle from the first time. Cheers!
Thanks Terry - u were right - needed tightening after about 9 cuts. Thanks again!
Well Gord I hope it’s everything I said it would be and you’re not disappointed! Remember it’s like a dance partner don’t let “her lead” and pull you in, your the boss hang on and enjoy the ride.😂 Have fun and be safe, you’ve waited a long time for this date.
Morning and thanks Tony! You bet!
Looks like it was just a 462C ?
Compared to a heavy 391, this saw is a joy to carry,
Good morning - They only put the C on the side for some reason. Same with my 261. I can't remember why. Have a good weekend!
@@GPOutdoors they have 3 models, 462 C...462 CM...and 462 CM R... seems you have just the C, happen to have the same one, it’s a Great saw!
Michael
Yeessshhh. That must have been terrible. But yes indeed - Merry Xmas (late)! Cheers Michael!
Oh...I wasn't aware you would be running it...I thought you had ordered it for the 65k sub giveaway!🤠
LOL! That's not a bad idea Wayne... but maybe not the 65K....:)) Have a good one!
@@GPOutdoors Looking forward to the video...👍
@@GPOutdoors Roll over the top if the bar is shorter than the dia of the log or when relieving tension/compression, when saw pinched and you wedged the saw out you could see the log sagging long before it pinched which had you pulled out sooner and switched to a under cut. Yes even Husky owners sometimes pinch the bar.😁
I have a 462 C-m R and I feel like it’s getting broke in and gaining a bit of power .
No replacement for displacement!
Just got mine 3months later dealer let me have it for $1100 that was the price when i called him $1309 is what im seeing now so i got a great saw at a good price its bad ass.
Congrats on your new gal! Very nice saw, but it seems a bit short on power, as @05:00?! 🤔🙄😂
Seriously, how much time on it/tanks of fuel, prior to making this video?
Oh NO Gord, was just kidding you about the power. That’s a heckuva saw, even if it isn’t a Huskie! Ha Ha
Nothing wrong with your sawmanship, and I’ve watched quite a few of your videos. You present and edit your videos well, and very enjoyable to watch. Throw in your sense of class and Gentlemanly manner, and its a winning combo! 👍
I gotta admit, when you were listening in the woods, and heard no Huskies, I really think that big ole’ Stihl ‘skeered’ them off! 😳🙄😃🤣
Stay safe, eh 👍✌🤝
@@georgedavall9449 Thanks kindly George - all good here. All in good spirit! (and I know I scared them off - but they can't hide for long...:))
