  • In this video, Jenny reviews the all-new 2022 Honda HR-V in its Vi X trim. This is the third generation of the HR-V a small subcompact SUV from Honda. On offer, there are 2 powertrain options, available in either a petrol or a hybrid.
The Vi X has only an internal combustion engine. Which is a 1.5 Litre i-Vtec inline 4-cylinder petrol engine that produces 89 kW of power and 145 Nm of torque. It is paired with a CVT and gives an estimated combined fuel consumption of 5.8 Litres per 100 km.
On paper, those numbers aren't inspiring. But there is also the Hybrid HRV which has the same sized engine paired with the two electric motors the e:HEV offers 96 kW of power and 253 Nm of torque it’s paired with Honda’s E-CVT and along with having more power and torque it also gives more fuel efficiency with a combined consumption of only 4.3 Litres per 100km.
A much better option in terms of performance and efficiency. The fuel tank capacity for both engine options is the same at 40 litres.
Pricing for the lower Vi X starts at $36,700 drive away and the higher hybrid e:HEV L trim will cost you $45,000 drive away.
Even though there is nearly a 10k difference in price the e: HEV L does appear the better choice.
It simply has better performance, safety and tech.

Just driving one now as a hire car. Report here is pretty accurate, little underpowered as stated, the particular car I'm driving (only 10K on the clock) has this tappety type of sound, someone suggested direct injection engine, but I've got a car with direct injection and while it's a little noisy when it's cold, the noise in the Honda is there all the time? Maybe a lifter? No complaints with the car at all, seems well put together and has a lot of features. Particularly impressed with the simplicity of connecting Bluetooth to my phone, easiest one I've ever used. Good review Jenny.

You need to mention a lot of noise from the engine when push hard, is a lot slower then the last generation and boot space is smaller. The plastic steering wheel for a $37k car is a bit cheap.

The entry model non-turbo 1.5 plus CVT available in Australia is a terrible car in my opinion. Grossly underpowered and noisy. The fabric trim looks cheap and the vinyl steering wheel is shocking. Also it only has 4 seat belts. On the positive side the Honda looks good on the outside. Even the Honda sales person I dealt with was struggling with the shortcomings of this car. The entry model is reaching towards $40,000 drive away which is way too expensive for this car. The entry model should be $10,000 less. At close to $40,000 it needs the 1.5 turbo, and the higher spec interior. Sadly, Honda has lost its way in Australia.

So the new model looks more ugly. It went from a 50 litre fuel tank down to a 40L . Went from a 1.8 l engine down to a 1.5. I thought new models were supposed to improve not decrease. Just my opinion me personally I would pass downgraded power smaller fuel tank pass

The good thing is you can put a Mazda badge or a Kia badge or a Toyota badge. Interchangeable.
At this stage you could advertise these as “it’s an suv that is exactly the same as all the others but this one has a Honda badge”

Wow! What a downgrade old model had a 50 litre fuel tank 1.8 l engine with 105 kW now down to 1.5 and a 40 l fuel tank not everybody's going to drive this in a city scenario. Some people like to take our 2-hour road trips to visit people. Hate to be on the highway, driving this car and trying to overtake anyone. Just my opinion though

Toyota and Honda are sleep walking into the future. They are looking to the past and projecting it forward.
EV adoption is accelerating every year. Exponential not linear. The only limiting factor is batteries.
The number of electric vehicles and types of vehicles and trucks is growing.
Electric vehicles are just better. No noise, no emissions, less fuel costs, less maintenance costs and amazing technology. Gasoline and diesel are OLD polluting technology. PHEVs still have a gasoline engine polluting the environment. Toyota and Honda will be late to the party. It will cost them market share, market value and future customers. There is a Climate Crisis. Young people will not buy petrol and diesel vehicles that add to the Climate Crisis.
