Thanks for your video. Just wanted to mention yesterday I took my HRV '23 Sport down the Long Island Expressway- got 35MPH going around 60-65 with Cruise Control. Did about 70 miles total. I noticed around town, I get about 28. But i've been running the heat a lot. I think in the summer that will go up to 30. Also, I had a Jeep Wrangler Sport 2 Door before trading in for the Honda- the Jeep def had more power, but i feel like the Honda is MUCH more comfortable & safe. So i'm really happy with it.
This kind of reminds me of a more refined version of a Mitsubishi Outlander Sport that I rented a couple of years ago. It was a little small, super slow and unrefined but I somehow started to like it by the end of the week. I always thought it was giving its all.
My mother has had her 2015 Outlander Sport GT 2.4L since new. The power feels perfectly adequate with that bigger 4cyl engine. It's been extremely dependable for her. My dad then bought himself a new 2019 Outlander Sport ES 2.0L. He wishes it had more power, but his has been flawless too. It's an old design, but a very underrated vehicle. I love driving theirs. They take curves really well. I like the 8.5 inches of ground clearance and the higher seating position. It looks and feels more like a proper SUV than a lot of CUVs today, which tend to look low and long, almost like lifted station wagons.
Honda is not missing the mark at all. The normally aspirated engine will outlast a turbo. People buy a Honda for low maintenance, durability and longevity.
It's comforting to know that, whenever I'm ready to give up on life and not experience any joy while driving a car, just descend in some kinda fugue state, a mindscape of boredom and depression, there's a Honda for me

I'm not sure what you are really expecting - it is an **economy** car. No meant to be fast and furious, just meant to go around town, to the malls, grocery stores, and take the kids to school.
You mentioned it doesn't have direct injection and I had to stop and look that up. Sure enough, multi-point FI. Nice to know it won't have intake port carbon fouling. Should be a reliable thing.
I bought an Accord EXL with the 2.0T engine in 2020 for tic under 30k. I realize the Accord is not in the same class of vehicle, but I think my car is 3 times the car than what this HR-V is and I paid less for it.
@@ishaansaral502 you're exactly correct. In October of 20 was right in the middle of the pandemic and nobody really knew how the car market was going to go. This is also why I will be holding on to this car a long time.
I own the 24 sport version. The AWD is fantastic, mileage is not great, power is adequate the 13 seconds to get 60 is BS its closer to 9-10. More than enough power and I am a recovering Lead foot anyways so I don't need/want super powerful and fast. The interior is beautiful, feels like it is made to the usual Honda top tier quality. For the price and the fact its actually in stock ( Canada ) I think it is a good choice.
It's good that you got 9 seconds in your 0-60 but the reality is, most HR-V drivers will have passengers, cargo etc. which means 11-13 seconds will be the more realistic 0-60. TheTopher said he got 13 seconds for his 0-60 in the 2023 Honda HR-V. Just unacceptable! Especially since the Corolla Cross has 11 more horsepower, a better CVT with a physical first gear, and better fuel economy.
We have a 2023 Honda hrv. I get 37 mph on the highway. It’s a nice driving car. It almost drives itself. It’s got a ton of gadgets. I like the automatic lights and people can sit in the back comfortably. The thing that I don’t like is no vents for the back seat and a wispy sound on windows. Honda gave me 2 years free oil change. The honey comb in the front collects bugs. The horn is really a beep beep. A bike horn is louder. I have used it twice. We will see how the it runs with the awd in snow.
@@billsmith9129 just recently. The awd handles really good. So far we have only had slushy icey snow and did good. I live in southwest Ohio. I would like to get deeper snow to see how it does. We haven’t had bread and milk runs this winter.

My mother and I purchased a 2023 HONDA CRV SPORT HYBRID on 5/26/2023 and I love it. We traded in her 2012 Ford Fusion SE for it because the transmission was going out and there was damage under the car when it was bought used back in 2013.
I just purchased this vehicle, used with 6k miles. I was disappointed to read all the bad hype. I’m coming from a 25 year old E150 camper conversation so this is a huge upgrade for me. I don’t need it to do some things other drivers wanted. Mostly it will be driven by me with a small dog, I’m thinking this will suit me for a few years.. Maybe next will be a hybrid. Thanks for the review, I learned from it.
I use to be a big Honda hater. Then I started driving more and more of what they have to offer, and now I really enjoy them. Specifically the CR-V and HR-V.
Very nice vehicle. Loving what Honda is churning out. Going to buy the pilot in couple years after economy get better and cannot wait for your pilot review. Finally a badass three row suv from a solid Japanese company. Too happy.
The leg room in the back of the cross is abysmal!! I looked at both and found the exterior and interior of the HRV to be much better! I am also getting 32 MPG in my HRV!
My 9th gen accord v6 gets 35mpg even when it’s really cold out and this thing struggles to get 30mpg and it’s got a CVT, smaller engine and it’s an overall smaller car
I have an ‘08 Honda Fit Sport with 190,000 miles on it. Some of the suspension is starting to wear, along with other small issues. I’m torn between getting one of these newer HR-V or CR-V options, or just putting the work and repairs into the Fit to last another few years. I love the Fit, but not sure where to go after it’s lifespan is over 😔
That's funny my wife also had a Honda Fit (2007) until last month. Was generally reliable but also started to become kind of a crappy car towards 200,000 miles. Traded it for a 2023 Buick Encore GX that she loves so far and saved a couple thousand over a new HR-V that we looked at first and has quite a few more convenience features that the HR-V didn't offer.
I just upgraded from a 2011 Fit to the 2025 HRV LX and its a perfect transition for me. Ive always owned smaller cars and hated driving huge suvs but this car feels perfect! Easy to drive, comfortable; and its plenty fast. People are focusing way too hard on these 0-60 times, which is little more than car marketing at the end of the day. Go test drive it and see if you like it. Good luck!
I don’t mind a puny horn because I’m always needing to beep a horn at a driver in front of me who is on their phone instead of pressing the accelerator when the light changes
Thanks for the review! How good is the lane keep assist at keeping the vehicle centered in its lane? Does this new Honda Sensing have decent lane centering? Thanks!
We’d say it’s slightly above average. The best lane centering we’ve tested in the mainstream segment is Hyundai/Kia system, but this is slightly less precise.
Maybe some consumers feel differently, but the powertrain in this vehicle would be a nonstarter for me. This needs a hybrid powertrain in the worst way
Acura needs to make one like this one with the 1.5 turbo of the CR-V (190hp, 179ft/lb) or slightly more powerful motor, perhapsthe Civic SI (200hp, 192ft/lb), and obviously cheaper than the RDX
Honda’s design team must be bi-polar, especially with the Civic. They are either over the top weird with huge fake scoops everywhere or now they have gone back to a rather sedate style which I like. This HRV looks great from the rear and sides but the front end reminds me of Davey Jones’ face from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. Weird.
Honda managed to turn their smallest crossover here in the USA into an uninspired, boxy family station wagon it looks like. They are on a roll with making off-putting vehicles, based on their latest Civic & now HR-V.
You know, it's a subcompact SUV, so it won't blow you away, but what Honda has done with the new HR-V that is based on the current Civic is a great improvement. I even like the apperance of this HR-V more than the old one. It would be great to see a little more power from that VTEC 4-cylinder, and I don't know why it sounds like that, considering the other VTEC 4-cylinders from Honda sound really nice and refined. I mean, all cars in this segment are really slow, so it's not surprising why it is pretty underpowered, so you can't really expect much. But overall, Honda has done a pretty nice job of improving the quality of the HR-V, and again, most people will be satisfied with what it offers. I'd still rather get a CR-V over the HR-V, but hey, power to everyone.
This is a pretty lackluster vehicle compared to a good amount of the competition, and an unusual step sideways in alot of areas for Honda in general, but I'd imagine most will still buy this based on brand reputation alone. And there's more than a few vehicles in this segment that are significantly better performers while also getting superior fuel economy. I give credit where it's due, but this car is not an exceptional effort from Honda.
@@Stressless2023 I mean nothing in this segment is outstanding so, not really surprised, but most people will be satisfied. The Mazda CX-3 (now the CX-30) is definitely the best car in this segment, since I've heard it's more fun to drive, it has Mazda's lovely 6-speed automatic, and the turbo 4 in that car produces a lot more power that is definitely needed.
The biggest downside of this otherwise great vehicle is the 0 towing capacity - not even a small trailer. That was the reason I skipped it 5 years ago and bought a CRV. I still don't understand why 150hp is not enough to pull a 700lb teardrop trailer. Honda said they would void my warranty if I did.
In the future, i would like to see more reviews that answer the following questions. What was the vehicle trying to be and did it accomplish it. You seem to want all vehicles to go fast and have power. I get it. those are your preferences. However, That is not the purpose of most vehicles nor is that the purpose that most people purchase vehicles for. Are there vehicles that do have that purpose? absolutely. But again most vehicles do not fall into that category. So you're dissatisfaction for all things that are not fun to drive feels a little shallow. Who is the car for? Is this a good value? How does it stack up against the competition?
The obsession with power and speed is turning me off from the channel. I own the 24 sport and I also own a civic touring. If i wanna go "fast or quick" I use my car. I drive this in a brutal landscape in the winter's of Alberta. The AWD is phenomenal. I get 0-100 in less than 9 seconds which is absolutely adequate unless you are a 18 year old speed demon. Obviously I bought the vehicle so I am bias. But I love it, love my honda's and everyone else can go buy those flashy cheap Kia's and Hyundai's and have fun with your warranties at the dealership. Ive never had one problem with ANY of my Honda vehicles and I am 42 now.
Major step back from the previous gen. It's much bigger on the outside while offering no more space on the inside. No more magic seats, no elbow rest in the rear, no additional engines, higher price.
DOUBTFUL, Honda has a MUCH better reliability and a better overall reputation than Kia and Hyundai! Even if those brands looked better I would never ever buy them because the likely hood of Honda blowing them out of the water when it comes to longevity and reliability is high!
I think that the hyundai kona would be the better overall buy. I think that this and the Corolla cross offer a bit more space but the hyundai get slightly better mpg and performance.
I was looking at this same model in January but ended up getting the 2023 Hyundai Kona Limited. It is a bit smaller but it has more features and has a better power train. 195-hp 1.6L turbocharged GDI 4-cylinder engine, 7 speed Dual Clutch Transmission
My honda Accord had a similar, I used it once, felt ashamed, I replaced it immediately, now it sounds better than a truck, cost about 50 dollars and very easy to replace it
I feel like Honda has taken a step back and cheaped out on this HRV and new CRV. They took away a lot of little features that made the previous generation more value packed.
Dont know why Honda did a totally different HR-V for the American market, but for the rest of the world did a global one, smaller but with a coupé style, that in my opinion looks way better than the American one. Fun fact: in Brazil both of the new HR-V will coexist, but the american one will be called ZR-V, such a mess!
Not sure why Honda does not offer the 2.0 Hybrid engine that's in the Accord & CRV and now Civic..I think it would be a great option to have the same hybrid system in 4 different sizes. Basically a car that fits everyone's individual needs besides the 3 row crossover.
Wait...they gave the mid-trim 18in wheels but took them away for the top trim? Honestly never have seen that before. Honda getting cheap early in this new gen. No power lift gate either? Yikes
At that price point, the Mazda CX-30 is better. For less than $1000 more than the HRV EX-L, you could get a CX-30 with the 2.5 turbo, better driving dynamics, better gas mileage and almost as practical lol.

It looks and feels more like a proper SUV than a lot of CUVs today, which tend to look low and long, almost like lifted station wagons.
an AWD HR-V Type R would be the ultimate winter hot hatch

Honda is not missing the mark at all. The normally aspirated engine will outlast a turbo. People buy a Honda for low maintenance, durability and longevity.
Was interested in this before I saw the looks and power plant. Went with a Mazda CX 30 instead.
It's comforting to know that, whenever I'm ready to give up on life and not experience any joy while driving a car, just descend in some kinda fugue state, a mindscape of boredom and depression, there's a Honda for me
It sounds like your already there, try hard.
Great job Honda. Under-powered, no hybrid and no turbo, yet larger than the previous iteration. The whole world just rang in the new year, 2023. Honda is still in 2005.
Nah Hondas fine. They’re ahead of its most direct competitor
@@naveenthemachine You mean Toyota? No they're not. Toyota is, and has been for many years now, electrifying their fleet while Honda is dragging its heels. There's a global climate crisis going on and while everyone else (including Jeep?!?!) is trying to help deal with the problem, Honda is putting out gas guzzlers. I say that as a huge fan of theirs. All I've ever driven are Hondas. But no more. As soon as I can afford to, I will go somewhere else.
@@elmhurst86 if that were true why is Honda always #1 in rankings? Hondas the segment benchmark. The class leader
Toyota isn’t anywhere near class average either
@@naveenthemachine Correction, they USED to be class leaders. And that's the point. Everyone else is innovating and Honda is falling waaay behind. Heck, even Jeep has begun to electrify its fleet of vehicles!

The European HR-V is phenomenal. I am super disappointed Honda decided to offer this in the US. Just because we want a small car doesn’t mean we want a weak car.
SUVs are popular so they jacked the price up. Sedans are not popular so its a better value
Enjoy that Accord. Great choice!
I reported that telegram scammer. The more reports the better. These guys are annoying.
Chris, you're right. Your Accord is 3 times the car. The 2023 Honda HR-V has a zero to 60 time of 13 seconds according to theTopher. 13 seconds!!
Honda has seriously gotten so greedy this generation. Cost-cutting and removing features while jacking prices. You bought your car at the best time.
@@ishaansaral502 you're exactly correct. In October of 20 was right in the middle of the pandemic and nobody really knew how the car market was going to go. I believe the MSRP was nearly 34k so I ended up buying it for about $4500 under MSRP. That is virtually unheard in the current environment.
Thanks for the warning. Sometimes I have 4 adults and the loudness of the engine and abysmal acceleration are enough to steer me away.

A CVT really needs to be paired with an engine that’s smooth at high rpm. That’s not as noticeable in a regular automatic since it doesn’t sit in a narrow rpm band.

My mother and I purchased a 2023 HONDA CRV SPORT HYBRID on 5/26/2023 and I love it. We traded in her 2012 Ford Fusion SE for it because the transmission was going out and there was damage under the car when it was bought used back in 2013.
It's pretty nice looking, I think would look a lot better with different rims and tires.
Edit: As soon as I hear CVT transmission I'm out.

Thanks for the review, I learned from it.
the dinky horns get me every time 🤣🤣🤣
Me too. That beep , beep. It is like a clown car. My ford had a loud honk. This is like a bike horn. I am going to ask my father if he can change it.
My local dealer is selling these with a $2k “market adjustment” and $7k in add-ons. I’m just going to drive my current car until it rusts away.
This really needs either the 1.5 t or the hybrid powertrain.
I use to be a big Honda hater. Then I started driving more and more of what they have to offer, and now I really enjoy them. Specifically the CR-V and HR-V.

What for the life of me I cannot figure out is why you would put a larger engine in the accord than you would in any of your suvs
Very nice vehicle. Loving what Honda is churning out. Going to buy the pilot in couple years after economy get better and cannot wait for your pilot review. Finally a badass three row suv from a solid Japanese company. Too happy.
Get Corolla cross y'all !!
It has more power , its more efficient , way more tech , also a hybrid and has much better quality 👑
Can you explain the way more tech?
The leg room in the back of the cross is abysmal!! I looked at both and found the exterior and interior of the HRV to be much better! I am also getting 32 MPG in my HRV!
Imagine this in mustang orange and black 🔥🔥🧡🖤 slow as hell but nicee
Lol Iris from Goo Goo Dolls selection, was dreaming Prelude back in the day
The HR-V had my appeal when it came with a 6 speed manual. Honda needs to bring back that option.
My 9th gen accord v6 gets 35mpg even when it’s really cold out and this thing struggles to get 30mpg and it’s got a CVT, smaller engine and it’s an overall smaller car
Yeah because you gotta always gotta be dogging that CVT to move. It’s sad. I had a 2014 Civic EX-L and had the same issue with the cvt.
Heyyy I love your videos ❤❤❤❤

Thanks for the review! How good is the lane keep assist at keeping the vehicle centered in its lane? Does this new Honda Sensing have decent lane centering? Thanks!
We’d say it’s slightly above average. The best lane centering we’ve tested in the mainstream segment is Hyundai/Kia system, but this is slightly less precise.
Maybe some consumers feel differently, but the powertrain in this vehicle would be a nonstarter for me. This needs a hybrid powertrain in the worst way
I am so HAPPY there is no carbon building direct injection.
This thing needs the hybrid system, since the Civic is getting the hybrid system, we should be getting the hybrid HR-V for the mid cycle refresh.

I loved honda but this generation is dissapointing. Very boring design (except Civic), nothing new and the price is too raised.
New Accord? CR-V? Pilot?
I think the hrv is the best looking Honda. The rest are parts bin, awkward proportions snoozers.
Agreed. So boring.
Weird.
New 2023 Accord loses 2l turbo
what if you install an ecu chip? would it be faster?
Is the offgassing/new car smell strong? I'm very sensitive to VOCs
Getting ford escape vibe’s without the reliability issues
Pool fuel economy, poor performance, obnoxious CVT noise, wimpy looking...hard pass.
1500 lbs towing capacity per the internet!
Why would anyone pick this over the CX30 besides cargo space?
Looks as large as the previous CR-V which means it's about the right size.
2023 Pilot drive review coming please? 😀
1000% agree
The EX-L should have also gotten a 1.5t option
Why there is no hybrid hrv in America market?
I don't see whats upscale about this car. The only good thing is the space for the size it is. Honda knows it makes money playing it safe
The upcoming redesigned Hyundai Kona and the upcoming redesigned Kia Seltos are both going to absolutely destroy the HR-V in nearly every aspect.
DOUBTFUL, Honda has a MUCH better reliability and a better overall reputation than Kia and Hyundai! Even if those brands looked better I would never ever buy them because the likely hood of Honda blowing them out of the water when it comes to longevity and reliability is high!
I love this cool little compact SUV. It looks like a baby Mercedes from behind especially in black. Major upgrade from previous model 💪🏾

I think that the hyundai kona would be the better overall buy. I think that this and the Corolla cross offer a bit more space but the hyundai get slightly better mpg and performance.
But will the Kona hold up? And what about trade in time.?
I was looking at this same model in January but ended up getting the 2023 Hyundai Kona Limited. It is a bit smaller but it has more features and has a better power train. 195-hp 1.6L turbocharged GDI 4-cylinder engine, 7 speed Dual Clutch Transmission

I would seriously consider this if they got rid of the CVT, had 225 plus HP and Torque, and a inch or two of ground clearance .
It looks Acura will be doing a version of this HRV. Let's hope some of these power and features deficiencies can be improved.
I feel like Honda has taken a step back and cheaped out on this HRV and new CRV. They took away a lot of little features that made the previous generation more value packed.
Conspiracy theory: what if this slow HRV is Honda's Tab Clear against the subcompact SUV segment, so that people buy hatchbacks more?
Keep hearing more powerful, but it’s slower less fuel efficient heavier and not more space in cabin then last hrv
