- Today we dive into Italian rock band Måneskin. "The Loneliest" is the second single from their upcoming album. It debuted number one in Italy and is a fantastic rock ballad!

They have better ballads like torna a casa or vent'anni but Damiano's voice here is so beautiful. I never heard him to sing like this
Power ballads are part of the Maneskin's dna and of every major italian artist. Actually this particular style was created in italy in 1964 with the worldwide hit song "Io che non vivo senza te" that went to nr1 in the states with Dusty Springfield (You don't have to say you love me). That year hoards of american/british producers and singers travelled to italy to learn about this new genre that was about melody, grief, rage and passion. Up to that moment ballads were only sweet and tender like Cilla Black's "You're my world" (that was also an italian song). Another great italian power ballad is "Our Song" that was recorded by a then unknown Robert Plant in 1964. The original was by Ornella Vanoni "La musica è finita". Italian music is full of these structured ballads and they have never gone out of fashion, from "Sei nell'anima"of Gianna Nannini (2007), to Dionne Warwick - La voce del silenzio (1968), to Vasco Rossi "Gli angeli" (1997), to Diodato "Fai rumore) (2020). The only difference between italian power ballads and american ones is that we prefer them to be less rock. and more melodic.

Y'all don't get it. They said this song is universal as love. They wrote this for everyone. So it has to be simple and easy to understand and in English, cause it's obviously international language. This is the will letter, the song that your mom and your daughter can listen and sing for ages. So this has to be typical rock ballad which is almost classical music, that never get old. But there's something special in this song cause I cry every time i listen to it.
It’s hard to write those lyrics when it’s not their first language. Thomas is a little genius with his guitar.

Damiano's english lyrics are improving little by little, but not even close of what he does in italian, nor in depth nor in poetry nor in originality, i hope he doesn't loose that hability in their eagerness to became worldwide popular, i hope he doesn't forget about Marlena...Thomas is improving a lot, he deserves more rock songs, this one without the guitar solo could easily be any other pop artist's song, like Shawn Mendes...
This is how people should make reactions to songs. Listen and then make the comments and not as many do who every two seconds interrupt and start talking, thus making people nervous. Often then even in the most beautiful passages they suddenly block !
Although I don't really agree with what Dad says. And I obviously agree more with what the son says. But okay… everyone has their own opinion.

I guess working in Los Angeles for three months and produce this song they have some how to adapt to embrace the market..
Today I can see with your comments that Ty was more into them when the "old" generation prefer them rock - punk side of them.
Unfortunately working with some USA producers they will look into the business side of them more and more and I hope this will teach them to grown but not to loose them souls.
I just hope they just want to be known as much they can and try again to produce them own that is indeed more quality in my opinion.

I agree with both of you that they can do better and that we all expect it, just as it is certain that they must and want to consolidate themselves in the American market and therefore look for more generically attractive things, without distorting themselves. And here I agree with Ty: Supermodel was nothing more than a pleasant American-style summer hit. This song is so much more and Jon Bon Jovi-style ballads have never had lyrics like this. Now, each of us has a favorite style, but Maneskin have always done ballads and then rock, hard rock and then funky and then some rap and even reggae, whatever they can think of... but they are always Maneskin, with their style. Sometimes a little less at best, sometimes astonishing ... but this, more often than not, depends on our taste.

You said it all. To me this song it’s already heard, I’m 50.. the guitar solo it’s the best part. I’m a Maneskin fan too, so I like it but the Italian ballads they did are on another level and Coraline stands even more after this one. Could be correct what I heard that this song it’s the most “ pleasant” for to introduce us to the new album where we’ ll find finally new astonishing work.
The truth is : Måneskin is Måneskin in every thing they do. 🤟

i just wish they’d do more songs in italian. they haven’t released anything in italian in a year and a half :(
some suggestions i think you should listen to/you could like:
- torna a casa (probably my favorite by them, it’s a ballad);
- le parole lontane (also a ballad);
- lividi sui gomiti (similar vibe to in nome del padre);
- la paura del buio (so unique imo);
- l’altra dimensione (fun 2 minutes song);
- morirò da re.

I agree: this is a great song, even if not amazing for their standard. Please react to Touch Me, live in a rock concert in Germany, you will find the very raw Maneskin's spirit😊
The song is great on execution, agree it is a less complex song, but quite emotional. The video is beautiful agree. However, the song was more impactful without the video for me anyway, as it home on some personal experiences.
I think this is meant to be a song for the American audience. They need to expand their appeal to get to the level they want.
I agree with both of you. The Lonliest is much better than Supermodel. Personally I love the song, but it’s definitely different from what they used to do. At first listen it fell a flat for me too, but it grows on you. Supermodel overall did really well, actually, but the hardcore fans weren’t happy with it at all because as you said it doesn’t fit them. It’s too pop. It’s probably the most hated song the band has ever released, at least to the non-casual hardcore fans.
The new album will be different, they already said that. They are getting very big in America and unfortunately that means they will get more radio friendly (at least with the singles). Apparently it’s still a thing in America that people will only listen to songs that are in English, or at least that’s what radio stations think, and that’s a shame. Because most fans, Americans included, prefer the Italian songs. There will be Italian songs on the new record. If they are not released as singles that’s unfortunate but fine with me.
After Supermodel I was a little afraid of the new album. It got a lot better with the new single, but I’m still slightly anxious. Let’s hope for the best. Because you are right, artistically they are better than this.

I think any artist's songs reach listeners differently depending on their personal experiences. For example THE LONELIEST talked to me more than LE PAROLE LONTANE for example because I already lost a loved one but I never felt the pain of a breakup
So I believe that liking a song or not depends on your experiences, for me after TORNA A CASA this was the best maneskin ballad (I can't listen to it without crying)
yeah torna a casa is my absolute favorite. it holds such a special place in my heart, ever since it came out back in 2018.
they should absolutely react to it, i think they’d love it.
It is therefore a single detail, born in a difficult moment: the band away from home and its affections managed to convey its own mood through these words. Apparently it would seem a sad song but, in reality, conceals a profound meaning of love.
Give this song a second chance with the live performance in London or Paris

I have the same stance and opinion as the dad hahahaha. it's a matter of taste and preference, and how much each of their songs speaks to us personally. it's good to have differing tastes and in what we enjoy, more diversity! (in my opinion, the MV makes the song sound better, giving it an emotional boost. the song itself isn't bad, it has parts that i enjoy and i'll hum it from time to time, but it's not my fave song of theirs. looking forward to their new album!)

I like this one! But I think the best song they made - after Eurovision - is Gasoline... listen it live at Global Citizen in NY... it's stunning!
As for the album, they said in a recent interview that it will be "experimental": it will contain different types of songs, but it will also have some songs that will be like the ones in Teatro d'Ira... there will also be some songs in italian.

I hope (and think) in the next album they'll don't do something like super model. Damiano says the album will be more personal, and I hope this'll be real. Cause if it's personal I think we can see more "in nome del padre", "for your love" and ballads too. My real hope is they make a rock, funk album and not a pop album.

I've been waiting for your reaction since this came out because I love to see the different perception between you two! By the way all their albums came out in the first quarter of the year with a ballad single preceeding the album in October, my assumption is this is the single opening for their next album coming out next year and not sure Supermodel will be even included. I too was a bit disappointed that they have chosen this more "popish" route, the song is good and very catchy but nothing special, could be from any other band except for the guitar solo which is the one real characterization of the song, I also checked two live they did the day the single came out and the day after and opposite to their usual I found Damiano super tired and the live adjustments not yet fully developed instead of what they've done for all the their other songs. I know in the past 10 months they have spent a lot of time in the US working with many producers and learning a lot and Damiano in an interview after Supermodel came out said about Max Martin "you don't say no when you're offered the chance to work with the top producers" and I guess they're under a lot of pressure by the label to work with those who can guarantee very successful hits like those who worked on Supermodel and The Loneliest which knows technically how to make a hit but at the same time totally depersonalize their music and flatten their sound. I prefer much more their previous less perfect more raw sound and I really hope next album will still have some of that.

Bravissimi the best
They are obviously aiming for the American market. Both with Supermodel and The loneliest. These songs are well produced and professional and not bad (rather solid) but less real more ready-made. They lose freshness and authenticity (there is less feeling of real joy and let's go for it, be all in) which is something that has been their hallmark. So, it's not bad but for someone that knows rock through the decades it falls a bit flat. And yes, it's a guitar pedal, whammy pedal, I think it's called. I personally feel it's a bit too much here.

I agree with you both! I also think they're better than this and was hoping for something next level. I'm a bit disappointed to see them go to the "safe" direction while I also understand that they're desperately trying to find a stable footing in the US market. Let's hope this album will give them that and will allow them greater creative freedom for the next one.

Them making music like SUPERMODEL and THE LONELIEST (which sound different from the TEATRO) they take a risk with a new sound.
Maneskin always changed from album to album. CHOSEN has nothing to do with II BALLO which doesn't look like TEATRO, for me they are a band that always takes risks

I agree with dad, they're great, Dam's voice is awesome as usual, but this song is nothing like Coraline, not even close. I think that if they're not yet capable of writing great lyrics in English, they should just stick to Italian. And musically, I like the rawness and uniqueness of their previous album better.
their songs with the most streams on digital platforms are in English, so they have this audience. THE LONELIEST debuted in first place in the FMI in italy and is in #2 in spotify italy so I think they don't have to limit themselves to Italian, even because Damiano said he always wanted to make more songs in English...
even with songs like VENTANNI CORALINE and ZITTI E BUONI, IWBYS is the song with the most streams in "teatro d ira" (actually it has more streams than all the other songs on the album). SUPERMODEL has 132M streams which is more than IN NOME DEL PADRE, LIVIDI SUI GOMITI and VENTANNI put together lol
so it doesn't make sense for them to sing only in italian

IWBYS is a song before their international success (it came out along with the other seven from TEATRO), so they didn't even know it was going to be "commercial" and even then most people prefer to listen to it to any other on the album.
The general public just likes it and the number of streams and certifications and awards around the world (France, Spain, Brazil, USA, United Kingdom and Japan - some countries they received awards for songs in English from music critics) this just proves
For me for example THE LONELIEST (song in English) is much superior lyrically than NIENTE DA DIRE, L ALTRA DIMENSIONE, LASCIAME STARE, IMMORTALE (in Italian). GASOLINE has stronger and more meaningful lyrics (song in English) is much better than MORIRO DA RE (song in Italian)
Be careful not to confuse your personal opinion with the opinion of the general public, because streams mean that the person preferred to listen to that song over another (go in the youtube comments of the lyrics of THE LONELIEST and read what people say, how they felt the music and how the music made them cry), as I said your personal opinion is not absolute and the numbers don't lie ;)

You are totally right "Dad" (especially) & Son. I hope they won't let themselves down and sell their artistic soul to chase the American dream. It gets better when you give the song a few more listens. But definitely, the American workteam disappoints. 4/5 "mega" authors "helped" them produce this mainstream cut and that's the problem. Where's their sparkle, their distinctive signature?
I hope the album only enhances their roots and not too much "American" production. What makes them great is their own personal style and talent for sure 😎😎
@@reactionextraction Exactly, if the market wants something "American" they'll find plenty in America. If their L.A. Sonic producers don't realise that, they should. But the cleaner look (less tattoo flaunting) and the cleaner voice (less raspiness galore) are definitely an improvement.

Песня ,конечно может многим понравиться, но для чего так обрабатывать уникальный голос Дамиано, "выравнивать" индивидуальность Монескин?! Все равно, на живых выступлениях они уже постепенно меняют звучание под себя, возвращаются к "своему" звуку, голосу и новые песни воспринимается фанатами с бОльшим интересом , как произошло ,например, с Supermodel...
Конечно, работа в серьёзных, высокого уровня студих для них очень важна, но похоже, кто-то из их новых солидных соавторов не вполне понял и "услышал" стиль группы, к сожалению...
Мне кажется, судя по настроению, состоянию Дамиано , в этом году, он и сам, возможно, не вполне доволен этой обработкой 🤔

entrambi concordano che sia una bella canzone, deprimente, e che damiano riesca a esprimere benissimo le emozioni con la sua voce. entrambi concordano sul fatto che il video sia stupendo e che i måneskin non siano capaci di creare una brutta canzone.
detto questo, il papà si aspettava di più e ha detto che preferisce supermodel a questa. ha anche detto che è una bella canzone, molto deprimente, ma non bella quanto le loro vecchie canzoni. non crede che sia molto originale, ovvero, è originale perché la cantano i måneskin, ma se non la cantassero loro, la considererebbe come una normale canzone tra le tante altre.
a ty invece è piaciuta di più, concorda anche lui sul fatto che non sia tra le migliori, ma la considera migliore rispetto a supermodel, perché secondo lui supermodel non è nel loro stile (è troppo pop). il papà invece non è d’accordo su questo.
concordano entrambi sul fatto che sia una bella canzone, ma niente di speciale. si aspettano di meglio da loro, perché sanno che sono capaci di creare qualcosa di meglio, di speciale. avrebbero preferito una composizione musicale e in generale un’impostazione della canzone un po’ più originale (che non sia verso-ritornello-verso-ritornello). a entrambi piace quando damiano quasi rappa, ma capiscono che essendo questa una ballad, sia complicato farlo “rappare”.
il papà ha detto che si aspettava qualcosa di “next-level”, ovvero qualcosa di sconvolgente, che superi ogni limite, ma così non è stato.
ty gli ha detto che secondo lui non è stato next-level perché il gruppo sta cercando di far colpo sulle masse, su più persone possibile, tra cui il mercato statunitense, e per questa ragione probabilmente gli ultimi singoli usciti appaiono più “generici”, meno originali rispetto alle canzoni presenti in teatro d’ira.
per questo stesso motivo ty non si aspetta che il prossimo album sarà next-level, anzi, probabilmente sarà in linea con queste canzoni, in modo tale da poter essere apprezzato da più persone/dalle masse. e concordano entrambi che questa non sia una colpa, capiscono la volontà di provare a far colpo al mercato statunitense o a più persone possibili.

I completly agree, they can do much better. I also think that the new album is going to be more pop, generic sounding, so i'll wait for the next one. The guitar solo was very interesting tho, the only thing to remark about this song.

The music doesn't match the lyrics. The song isn't depressing because the music is too upbeat. I do get Quint's comment relating it to a Bon Jovi ballad ... their music was also often still relatively upbeat while accompanied by reflective and sad lyrics. This style of combination of music/lyrics seems to lean towards a feeling of triumph under difficult circumstances. On top of this then the video combined with the music and lyrics further mismatches what the music feels like ... so ... ughh Maybe I'm too familiar with much more depressing music with far more depressing matching lyrics lol Might have to be careful with confusing the novelty of new/first time hearing with good. It is good but the critical problem is not feeling a reason to listen to it again. It's almost like they didn't want to make anything that sounded too depressing, but when death/loss is the subject matter it is often completely devastating for most people. Or maybe they didn't even intend for it to come across as sad or depressing. Maybe that makes the overall composition of music/lyrics/video disingenuous.
