Listen to "Don't wanna sleep" if you are a "for your love" fans or "Il dono della vita" for old rock vibes. This 17 song album is written for very different kind of fans/situations: "Baby Said" for pop rock, "Timezone" is a power-ballad, "Bla Bla Bla" for Tiktokers, "If not For You" for romantic slow dance, "Gasoline" has a strong bild up for an important social message, "kool kid" is a UK punk punch... every song is well done and has something. They did a wonderful job considering the had no much time to make this LP!

Maneskin were born with the idea of being mainstream. It's what they always wanted. At the same time, they want to feel free to express themselves. Now, I also have been very young and maximalist, but the album isn't all pop rock. I was the first to get desperate listening to Supermodel and Mammamia, but we have to accept that Mammamia is part of what they love to do. They always sang preferably in English, it was the old manager who forced them to sing almost always in Italian. I also prefer them in Italian... but I also know what the real market is like: everyone likes songs in Italian, but few people buy them. And don't forget that there are four of them, with different tastes: this time, instead of amalgamating, they preferred to indulge each other. Each of them could make the songs they wanted or had written as they wanted. What's more, they too grow, mature, change. And let's not forget that their live songs have always been something else. D you really think that Gasoline is rock pop? Or that "Bla bla bla" and "Kool kids" are there to please Americans? And that all those references, that common thread of toxic love of different kinds, are to please an average audience?

Brava Clelia.

For sure there are more commercial songs in there, but they always wanted to be mainstream and songs like vent'anni are considered commercial in Italy that was their previous market.
They want to be big and to have fun doing that and if in the process they keep giving us bangers like baby said and intimate songs like il dono della vita I'm not gonna complain.
They are in their early 20 in the end and this is part of their grow, there's plenty of time for a teatro d'ira vol 2.

Hi! I love love this album!!! I absolutely appreciate your opinions and wish everyone loved it as much as I.
I also fell in love with them a couple years ago and have listened to every and I mean every song that I could dig up.
They make anything they do special!
    To me anyways.
I think I just personally love them as humans and every interview or point of view that I have heard them talk about over the years is they make music for themselves. They love to experiment and create what they feel not what everyone wants to hear.
Damiano has said countless times he loves pop and brings the pop element but all four love different styles. They experimented with each other’s differences and they said English is easier and more fun or less pressure for them.
I think you should listen to some interviews from back in the day until now because they’ve been saying the same thing every time.
They do what they feel and what they want to experiment with. I expected to hear the passion and love they gave for music. Whether it’s my taste or not they give it their all and I feel it every time. They don’t like being put in a box of just Italian or just rock. They hate labels and think they should be able to make music without being told it’s right or wrong.
So whether you hate it or love it they ultimately stayed true to themselves and tried something different for them!
They’ve never made an album like this so it’s all new and exciting for them.
Any who that’s just what I get from watching their journey unfold and them always having to explain and defend why or what they did.
Thank you for all of your awesome reactions!!
Maneskins music always sparks a conversation!
    Have a great day!

Well said. All of you, do you know why Victoria and Thomas kicked out Damiano a first time from the group? Because Damiano wanted to be more pop. He is a funk/pop/rap singer. They clearly said this album has been created adding all their influences. So there are more pop rock song, rock like Mark Chapman (preferred by Thomas), and punk like BlaBlaBla and Kool Kids preferred by Victoria. So we have to accept their different tastes and choose the song we like. Not pretending each time they do a monumental classic rock anthem or a clone of Rolling Stones or Led Zeppelin. Måneskin are all 4 lf them. If Damiano is not satisfied because he cannot sing the style he likes, he will probably abandon Måneskin, to sing whatever he wants. And that would be terrible. So keep cool and stop asking for the same thing each time. They will probably change the style and genres many times more.

I think they are very smart and know what they’re doing. When they started out in Italy, with their first album, they seduced the audience with basically a pop sound. Then they come out couple years later with “Teatro d’ira” and many fans who were just in for the pop sound fell in love with rock. I know for a fact that the next album will have heavier songs. When music becomes a career, you have to be a businessman other than an artist, and that’s totally normal. So playing it safe in this album is, in my opinion, a hella smart move. You’ll be able to make a long career only if you play it smart from the start, and they’re totally doing it.

I loved this album! Idk, maybe it's because I know to expect ANYTHING from them so I never had a singular sound in my head for what I wanted or was expecting from this album, but I think most of the songs are so fun and honestly this album is full of some absolute bangers! I mean I can kinda see where some people are coming from when they say they're disappointed (I personally don't get it though), because those people had their own idea of what they wanted their sound to be. Like others have said, when u compare this to Teatro D'Ira only, it can be a bit like ?? but when u look at ALL their musical sounds over BOTH their previous albums, this album doesn't seem out of left field or a let down at all, at least to me. I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but in my opinion people are hating on this album more than it deserves. I think they have some really GREAT songs on it. Are there some songs which aren't my favorite? absolutely. But for the most part I think they made some dope music.

  • @giuliatosi3996
    @giuliatosi3996 Год назад +4

Great points of view, both of you! I think the media and the pressure they put on them throughout these months it's what generates the idea that "maneskin is the new rock band that will save rock music from anything more mainstream and commercial". But in reality this is far from maneskin themselves. They never once said they wanted to save rock (save what?! If rock music has a problem it's that is full of fanatics that pontificate over what they think is rock and what not bashing people, artists and their fans without a right analysis or consideration). I think we all should remember that we're talking about guys in their twenties that obtained success maybe too fast and are trying to cope with it at their best, growing , having fun, experimenting sounds and generes. This album was clearly aimed for a north american market (hence the help of those producers) and made obviously "in a rush" (if you compare the time they spend in producing Teatro d'ira). But, i think it's still a great album, full of growth and experiments and serves it's purpose. I think that their uniqueness comes also from their singing in italian, a language not many are used to listen to, and that requires different structures and sounds when creating music. English on the other hand is the mainstream language, it does not carry the same sense of "new and different" that italian has. Maybe it's just one crazy idea of mine but as an italian myself this is what I notice when listening to those two languages.

I understand the sense of disappointment - really. I went through my own period of mourning the loss of the “Italian” Må quite early on, when IWBYS and Mammamia were popular. But I’m long past that now, and just accept all the variety that comes from them with huge enjoyment. They have never hidden the fact that they want to pursue this wild ride as far as they can go, and that includes making a more commercial album to get them on the map in America. But even on this album, I differ from your opinion that they sound just the same as any other American pop artist. In any mixed playlist, this group sticks out like a sore thumb. They are instantly recognisable, partly because of Damiano’s vocals, which are unique, but also the very rock-driven instrumentals even on the poppiest of the songs. I find that the use of analogue instrumentals for a rocky dance track quite exciting, and I think these songs are going to absolutely slay live.

I like the album. I think it's generally good, with some excellent songs (such as Gasoline, Kool Kids, Mark Chapman).
I think one has to consider that they are not just the "Teatro D'ira's band"... They published one album and one EP, before Teatro D'ira, so I think it is not right judging Rush, only thinking to what they did on Teatro D'ira.
If you broaden your perspective, you'll see that they have always been pop-rock oriented. Plus, they always said they wanted to be a mainstream band. There is nothing wrong with that.
The fact is that they are eclectic and they do not like just one genre of music.
But they are intelligent and they know they will have to satisfy a varied audience.

"Teaitro D'ira" didn't work in the US & UK charts. What's the use of making a flawless album when you don't get rewarded by the sales? Sales are important because they allow you to become artistically independent. The american industry always manages to manipulate the foreign artists in order to let them be compatible with local tastes. Maneskin could make two choices. Say "Fuck them all" and go back to europe loosing all the promotional support on the international markets (which means disappearing from the global markets very soon), or ride the horse and become globally powerful to offer in the future both mainstream and more personal music. We had a good example of italian artist who tried the american "card" in 2002. Laura Pausini with the album "from the inside" where she sounded more american than american female singers despite the fact that she is the most "italian" of all contemporary italian singers. The single "Surrender" charted both in the USA & CAnada but when she realised that the american producers wanted her to become a dance singer she said "Fuck you all" and left the game. But she could do it being powerful and popular all over Europe and latin america with sales reachim 80 million records around the world. Maneskin are not that strong.

@@reactionextraction people may be open to the influence, but not the industry. The only italian act working on the american market is Andrea Bocelli, the ultimate cliché of the italian music culture. He occupied the place of Julio Iglesias 30 years after the american breakthrough of the spanish singer. In the last 30 years it is virtually impossible for non-anglophone singers to break into the american market unless they have a perfect accent and an american producer and staff. Check who's behind Daft Punk or BTS, the label "korean", "italian" or "french" is just a label that a certain american industry uses to appear culturally opened to the world. But the fact is that in the end you hardly find in their music something differente from the average american mainstream music. We have to look back in the 70es to find an italian producer that changed the sound of american pop music, Giorgio Moroder. His sound was unique and he made the difference with artists like Donna Summer or Blondie. Today these swedish producers all sound the same. This is the problem with the new Maneskin Album. Probably Damiano got the upper hand in this. Do you know that at high school he was fired by Victoria & Thomas because he was too poppish? Eventually they called him back in because they couldn't get a fit replacement. I hope they'll dedicate more time to writing the next album and will record it in Italy, with their usual Italian studio team.

I personally prefer the italian songs production and also their lyrics are on another level if you compare them with the English ones. That's why I understand Tye's point of view. But I have to admit that the Usa producers did a great job with the rock songs. Gasoline, Don't wanna sleep, Own my mind, Gossip are great. The arrangement of Kool Kids (produced by their italian manager) is stunning. Straight back to the seventies punk rock. In your first comment you said If not for you was the highlight song. For me it is good but far to represent their new sound. The song I instantly loved at first listen has been Il dono della vita. The most complex, gorgeous, emotional song I might wish .... I am totally in love with it❤ looking forward to watch the next review. It will be cool to see how goes on ✌😊

Tyler, did Teatro d'Ira enter the album charts in the US? No, that means an album like Teatro d'Ira will never become a success in the US. Not all the Americans are like you and your father. Additionally a song in Italian appeals to you, but it will never enter the charts (Zitti e Buoni did it, but because it was the winner of Eurovision) or be played in the radios. Do you think a song in a language that is not english can become mainstream? Mark Chapman and Il Dono della Vita are songs that were meant to be in either Teatro d'Ira Volume 1 or Volume 2, together with La Fine. So they are in the same mood as the other songs of Teatro d'Ira. Il Dono della Vita is a super ballad. Without this album they will stay a niche group for a small number of rock fanatics like you and your father. I think they need to widen their audience with an album like Rush and then they will educate them by doing a Teatro d'Ira Volume 2 (which, probably, is ready to be published).

@@moonshine9836 Well said, too. For your love was a wonderful song in english, but the one who charted in the USA was IWBYS. So we see that not the best songs who charts, but the most appealing or crazy. The songs who have success are those more fun. What it surprises me is that Tyler likes Pet Shop Boys (and I do too, they where my best preferred pop electronic duo, back then). The songs in Rush are much more rock&roll than those from PSB, which are electro pop/dance. In Rush there are killer guitar solos, stompy distorted bass, crazy drums. So, for a rock&roll guy even Rush should be a very good album. Then, if the wide general audience in the USA likes something reworked by someone who knows how to make a success, like Max Martin or Justin Tranter or Sly or Rami Jacoub, why not? Do you like the old Måneskin, there are 3 songs in Italian which are very nice. Mark Chapman has a fantastic speed and progression, Il Dono della Vita is a wonderful ballad with wonderful lyrics. I am confident Måneskin are hard headed enough to know what they are doing and follow their tastes. Queen also sold their souls before becoming Queen. As everybody else. If you want to stay in the 50th or 60th place in the chart, Teatro d'Ira was perfect. But I feel Sony and Måneskin want something more. If we check the past, those who were charting in the USA in the past singing in Italian were Domenico Modugno with Volare, Luciano Pavarotti and Andrea Bocelli with opera songs. Charting with rock is more complicate for an Italian. We are known for bel canto and ballads, or opera. Umberto Tozzi did a stomp with the song in italian named "Gloria" back in the eighties, which charted everywhere in Europe (and south america). In the USA it charted only when Laura Brannigan did an english version.

Secondo me c'è roba anche vecchia.

In one interview Damiano said that they have learned a lot about songwriting in L.A. Before their songs were the result of hours and hours of jam sessions....but since they were in LA they've learned to work with the dgital tools.😑 Oh really? 😱 That must have sped up the songwriting process, no doubt. But it explains why their new material is much blander and tamer.

I anyway think they are not changing their nature, they just love to experiment everything (in the past they made a reggaeton called "are you ready" !!), they never stay in a fixed point and I was actually expecting something like this for their new odience. This is what they have been doing from the start, it not even easy to come out with a banger each time. I am also impressed on where they found the time to write and produce 17 songs album while performig gigs and awards around the world, collaboraction with that amazing Elvis movie, tv show and so on, this is astonishing to me. They will be back with their sound for sure later. Ciao a tutti.

The Doors never deviated from their swag, never. I think Maneskin didn't realise how incredible they were. So they listened to these pop rock songwriters, because they genuinely thought pop rock was better than the soulful incredible iconic music they first created. I saw them live in Verona. I'll never forget Thomas and Damiano sitting in the crowd doing an acoustic version of Vent'anni, the crowd singing with them. The double mind blowing intro to the first set Zitti e Buoni followed by In Nome del Padre. The pure magic and passion. If they continue this pop thing, they loose everything. Compare this manufactured pop to Torna Casa, a true masterpiece both song and video. Please Maneskin don't sell yourselves to the plastic people. Pause, take a break. Go lock yourselves in a remote studio in the Swiss Alps for 3 months, forget the tours. Make art. You have the gift.

I was so expenting your reaction and I have to say I agree with Ty totally,on the other hand I'm the old wise one so I'm a bit with Dad as well. Honestly Baby Said sounds to me like a Britney Spears song, nice and fun while you listen to it but totally forgettable and also a couple of ballads on the album are way too pop for me. My fav is still Gasoline but honestly I don't know what to choose among the rest. It's a good album, very "polished", it's obviously a high budget production and Damiano said when they offered you to work with a top producer you don't refuse but to me again Max Martin was not a good choice in terms of sound although it might be a good choice from a label pov or from mainstream placements since he seems to guarantee to struck gold on anything he does. Damiano said he prefers to write in English because he doesn't feel guilty of writing silly things or less meaningful things in a language thet is not his own and unfortunately it shows, he's so less emotionally involved and to the listener's ear it's a complete different experience. I get it, they're in their 20s and get the opportunity of a life, you jump on the train, they also want to have fun and not think too much if they're rock, if they're pop, etc. I hope next album maybe in a couple of years will bring back the Maneskin uniqueness we all loved so much. 😊

Interesting to hear your discussion. I'm agreeing a bit with both of you.
The album makes me feel conflicted. I think it is a good album as such, I like most of the songs well enough and a couple of them are great. It is doing pretty well in charts.
However, it is not an album I wished to hear from them. I hoped they would stay more rock and would keep more balance between English and Italian. But that is not what they wanted to do, so what is there really to say... I simply hope that they have actually been somewhat free to do what they truly wanted, and that this isn't them only giving in to the demands of the US music market.

But I think if you compare everything to Caroline, nothing will be as good, bc that came from a deep raw feeling that Damiano wrote in his youth. I think even if he wrote in Italian, to get to that same state once again and make it feel like an all new song it'll be hard. We would risk ending up with a rip off of their own Teatro album. I think your dad makes sense because they did manage to come up with an interesting unique concept even in the "American style" album, meaning they did feel inspired by it otherwise I think it would've been some basic commercial song. I personally don't feel it as low, but an all new trip on the other side of the Pacific. There's a little taste for everyone 😋 but for sure it never gets boring regardless, which is rare to encounter in band. Such a capability to reinvent themselves over and over again. I always find that most artists have one or two hits than the rest is a filler. I'm so impressed at how Maneskin is doing so far. Don't worry they'll takes us for another ride somewhere else once again in the next album. Who knows maybe in the metal rock homeland, Denmark , visiting Victoria's 👪 family and howling at the moonlight 😆. That would be a great next hit 🐺.

The more hardcore fans never forgave them. Thirty years after the release of that album, there's not a person who doesn't know Enter Sandman or Nothing Else Matters. I don't think it's directly comparable, but maybe putting maneskin's work in context here is key: they recorded the album really in a rush, they recorded while they were on a world tour that lasted a whole year! I think the next album will be recorded more slowly and give us a more complete view. They are just kids, we'll see in the future 🤷 Sorry for the bad english 🤌🇮🇹
