They collaborated with Tom Morello some months before they released this song and stayed in touch since then, I can totally see Thomas getting some advice from him, he's a young intelligent sensible guitarist and really his guitar can sing and cry.

Agreed, the solo likely was inspired by their work with Tom Morello - and it's amazing! The guitar feels like it's wailing, almost taking over when the grief in the song becomes too deep for words. I love how they play with the guitar sound in different songs. In "The Loneliest" the guitar mimicks crying, in "Mark Chapman", the guitar mimicks police sirens (as it tells a story about a stalker) and in Gasoline (a song about the war in Ukraine), it almost mimicks air raid sirens. I find it fascinating! Your reactions to them are my favorite, they always make me notice things I've never listened before in songs that I already love. Thank you!
