2000 Accord EX. Slightly different control panel. Your directions were right on. Fixed driver’s side and my vent control works again! Thank you. My additions: 1. In order to disconnect the green plug, you must slide out the little black retainer that sits against the green part. 2. If you break ALL the tiny case clips, don’t worry; you don’t need any of them.
Thanks again for this great vid.
Thank you!!! This kind of videos will give fears to mechanics for not ripping off customers! Long live RUclips auto content providers! I have saved quite a lot of money for doing DIYs via RUclips videos like yours!
Thank you, had same problem with the actuator motor for directing the air, your video was spot on. Cleaned the grease off and put it together. Now working.
John you saved me lots of money! Thanks a million! I used eyeglass screwdrivers to tweek up the flimsy clips that hold the miserable actuator together....broke one anyway careful as I was being. Tilted the motor contacts and raised the piano of contacts slightly as you advised. BOOM! My wife was so happy. She saw me pouring over your concise video like a madman. None of the auto stores had one in stock....I checked them all as I dreaded squirming under that dash to be honest. Thanks tons again sir.
Best video ever made ... I wish everyone would take their time and explain just like you do man... awesome video
Thank you
100% best video on the 98-02 Honda accord climate control explanation and fixes.
On some real shit!!
I was gonna say the same thing! Thank you sm for this!!
Thankyou for your technical support and help keeping these classic Hondas on the road 😀. Mine will roll 300,000 miles this year!
Wow John, awesome video by way of instruction my man!!! Simple to the point and for someone like myself who is mechanically inclined but having no experience in auto repair whatsoever, you just opened a whole new door for me!!! You the man!!! Thanks!!!
So glad I found this video because I was about to take it in and let someone else fix it. It took less than 10 minutes to take off, clean, and reinstall. I ended up breaking 2 of the 4 clips but no biggie as it was still able to close the box. I had been hating when the weather went from sunny to rain cause it meant I had to manually turn the gears to the correct air flow direction. Thanks for posting and saving me some $$$.
Thank you for this video! I started having issues with my AC a few months back, but never worried with it. It wouldn't change the zones for the air, but I took it out today and cleaned it like your video and it worked like a champ! Your were super helpful and informative.
Thank you so much for the very descriptive video you should make more because you explain everything in detail!!
I had the same issue. Hot air coming out of front vents. Took motor/servo off opened it up cleaned and re-tensioned the contacts and plugged in and it works great. Thanks for your help. You saved me a lot of money.
I know this is an older video, but I’ve had several accords, and videos like yours make my repairs so much easier, thank you so much, hope time has treated you well🤞
Great explanation. Nice job identifying which control is which. And showing the inside of the motor assembly.

You made this so easy to understand and showcased it all well, thank you very much.
You sir. Have saved another honda owner a lot of time and money. With this video i can fix both problems my self. Thank you for the video.
Thank you sir. My hot to cold fader has been broken at about 3 years. Could not trace down the problem. $47 on eBay, followed your video and all is well now.
Thank you Sir.
AWSOME!!!
Worked fine on 2000 Honda Accord, both the left "Mode Controller" and the right "Air Mix Controller". Both had a build-up of grease on the contacts. Simply opened the controller cases carefully, marked the component positions, then lifted and cleaned the grease and put light coating back on the "wheel" that rotates on the contacts. It's a tight fit on the passenger's side, but the driver's side was very accessible (that side controls the flats that direct the air flow). Thanks for the very helpful video!
Again thank you sir for your instructions on cleaning and reinstalling. Mine needed a motor change so I got a cheap actuator on Amazon for $22 and took the motor out since the rest of the unit didn’t match mine. Had to solder in motor leads. No biggie, but at first the alignment didn’t work but I studied your alignment on the video and copied it and now it goes from cold to hot without making clicking sounds. Thank you for saving me over $100. Hope this post helps out the next guy.
Thank you for making this video! Just fixed my Daughters heater because of you
I watched your video after i did mine the same way. You did a excellent job...please continue...one of the best ive seen. Thank you.
This is a wonderful, I've been dealing with this problem for months. Thank you . I wish more people would follow your format when making videos. It was accurate, informative and complete . Again, thank you
Turned on A/C today, no center air flow. Watched you're video. Tuned up the assembly like you showed, works great now ! Thx Warren!!
Wow wish you were here to help more often .. so nice you go through and explain step by step .. so nice
Nice video. I've done this many times on GM vehicles but a friend has a 2000 Accord with blend door problems and since I'm old and had 9 back surgeries I wanted to find locations before I laid on my back.
I didnt expect to find someone like myself that takes the time to repair instead of buying.
Thank u so much u have no idea how happy I am u did this for all of us
You did excellent in explaining all of this to someone who has absolutely no knowledge of this area and needs to fix her own car. Thank you
@Kimberly avalos Yay for single girls with no help for taking the plunge and doing it on their own! Way to go girl!
@@Zugeily1981 thank you
Save my life and money sir ,I want to
Give you a big thank you for sharing this info ,now ac is working like is supposed to
Thanks so much, John. I just had to get some grease. Only took about 10 minutes and my air isn't stuck on the footwell vents anymore. My mechanic is usually fantastic about never upselling and knows this model car well, but even he was saying it'd take parts replacement. Nope! I'm going to tell him about this next oil change.
Excellent! John thanks so much you were spot on! It worked just like you said it would. The only thing is I didn't hold the cam in the same position when I took it out so I had to take it out and do it again no problem now we have a run the defroster and I am a hero! That makes you a hero thanks again exclamation
Thank you for that!! I wouldn’t have known where to even start. I’ll be taking care of this soon.
Great explanation and teardown of the actuator assembly! Thanks!
Very informative! Thanks for this video! Gonna fix my Accord's climate control tomorrow
Best video,in regards to this specific issue. Thanks much! Have a great weekend! 😃 👍
Great video. I was about to order the actuator and then found your video - and it worked! (2002 Honda Accord SE). Not too easy for an old fat guy but I got it. Thanks!
Thanks allot for the blueprint. Was looking everywhere for the vent, floor, defrost actuator
Thank you. I used this guide and did not even have to buy a new($250+) oem /used ($60). I simply took off my drivers side actuator as you said controls the mode/direction and took it apart cleaned the pieces and followed each part. The hardest part was getting the part off as I am big and the small space allowed around the pedals doesn’t allow for much space. Thanks man! I can now control my direction of air flow as the winters with weak defroster direction was getting dangerous.
IS it 2000 accord?
Hello, did you just clean it or also reapply some type of grease, I can’t control the directions of my airflow 99’ accord.
Yo you deserve all the stars in the world for providing those drawings. It helped out so much
Glad it helped
excellent diagnosis and explanation. Mostly the led lights lose power. the solder trick helps usually. Ive replaced the circuit board control several times as well over 25 years
Thanks so much! I still have a bulletproof 98 Accord and this cold AM the heater was not working. This is great to learn about the flap actuators, looks like my pass side is not working.
I had the same problem with my 98 Accord, thanks to this video I was able to fix it.
Thanks a lot dude, great video
Dude this was the best video ... that really fixed the same issue I had .. Thank you so very much.
Thanks so much. It was the actuator motor near the gas pedal that had closed the center vents.
You saved me a bunch of money as I was going to replace the unit with a used one but the wire fixed it.
I had to replace my mode control motor today and this video was very helpful. Repair shop said 'special order part' - $466. eBay used part - $47 shipped. Relatively easy to access/install, especially with the detail you provided here. Many thanks.
Derek Rogers I had a very hard time getting this piece off. How did you get it off so easily?
Derek what year was the accord of yours
OMFG that soldering a wire recommendation worked wonders thank you soooooo much ❤❤❤❤
Thanks for this video. My A/C problem was stuck either hot or cold. Blowing cold air while turning heat up max, or blowing hot air while a/c is on. Found the passenger side air mix motor not response to climate control knob. Remove the air mix motor, retouched all the connector. Tested ok before put back in. Now I have hot or cool air as turning climate control knob.
Excellent video, thank you so much! My actuator for the modes (floor vent, dash vent, etc.) has been slowly failing over the past years (works fine most of the year, stops working in colder winter months). I'm going to attempt this repair just as you've outlined. Thank you again!
Having the same problem. Did it work?
Thank you very much for helping to understand why only heat comes out. I believe I overcharged my AC because I didn’t search out the issue first. Wasted 40 bucks on refrigerant when this most like is the issue at hand. Now I have to have refrigerant weighed for right amount and hopefully didn’t damage my compressor. The line gets cold so I think I’m good. I will take your suggestion and remove the motor assembly and clean it up and tighten internal connections. Again thank you for helping me and many others.
you've done a very good job at describing the process. A+
Your video helped us we got it fixed with our air flow controller thank you
I used the 9/32 socket. This was one of the hardest things to get to. I did everything in the video but i think mine is just no good. But, my air is now coming out the front vents instead of being stuck on defrost. I didnt reconnect the arms to the motor which is allowing my air to flow through the front vents. Thanks a bunch for this video. I thought i had to change the whole climate control face.
OMG...Your correct. Just like you said, there it is. Fixed. Thanks.
Wow you just fixed my 98 accord. Thank you!❤️
Absolutely pure Genius. Best Video on the subject. Thank you.
Doode thanks for the sketches and being thorough with a detailed description
That's what I'm saying! I seen the pic the first time and was like this is dope
didnt explain how to release the little rods from the actuator, but thanks for video..it saved me some $$$
Just wanna let u know u still out here saving lives G 🔥
Hi John - this video was very helpful :). Thank you so much!!
Hey, great video, thanks! I've changed a cuple actuators some years back on a truck and a jeep. My son now has a 01 Accord and theirs no air blowing thru any of the vents. When I put my hand on the passenger side actuator I feel a single thump. a lightly audible tic tic is heard just before the thump. This happens when he is pushing the button to change vent flow. Again there is zero air blowing thru the vents other than he has noticed a bit of forced air flow when driving highway speeds.
Trying to diagnose this without the car as he has gone to his house now. Thanks for any suggestions! Your vid is superb!
This video was amazing
@John Caleb Warren. John, nice job adding the drawing. Not many people would have went to the trouble of doing it. Thanks for uploading the video....
Great Video. What threw me was I took out and opened the box and all the contacts looked bright and new. I tested the motor and no go! Then I cleaned the clean looking contacts and it WORKED! Re-installed it and it works fine. $aved $$$!
Worked like a charm! Appreciate the post!
Thank you. I will try this on my 98. I have to watch the vid on the lights.
One other thing, I like your artwork of the dash! I am an art teacher.
Thanks ...certainly took the broo-ha-ha out of dealing with the climate controls on my honda.
Thank you very much for making this video. I will try this in the morning. Keep the videos coming3.
THANK YOU SO MUCH THIS FIXED IT FOR ME!!
Yu jus saved me about a million dollars thanks for the video
I wish we lived near you, my daughter's car has this problem, it is a 2000 Honda Accord and we have 2 mechanics that are not answering our calls....hmmm. Thank you for this video, very informative!!
Cheryl Diaz yeah just pull those Motors out on each side under the dash, and replace them with eBay or salvage yard units. That will fix your problem, almost guarantee it
Cheryl did u fix the problem if so what was the issue
Great video man. I subscribed. Keep up the great work.
Really informative saved me a lot of money thank you!
Thank you for making this video!

Thank you for this information!!!! Winter is coming and I cannot drive my car to school as of now here in Colorado cause the window are covered in ice so when I get home tomorrow I will try this and follow up with how it came out!!!!
@TimedPiecesTN yes it did!
@TimedPiecesTN it was very awesome fixing it I’m sorry for the long reply but after I got it fixed I was so excited! Sadly as of late a hail storm totaled out my 6th Gen I kept driving it then I spun a bearing and it began knocking, sadly I had to sell it but I wanna get another 6th Gen soon!
very very helpful. thank you!
Perfect fix, thank you sir!
THANK YOU, It worked as reported Most Excellent. . .
I want to say thank you very much for helping me out I haven't had heat in my car for 5 years I can't believe it was such an easy fix thanks a lot brother
Did yours blow either hot or cold
This was well explained, thanks
interesting bridge at 0:42. saved my board. thank you!
Success thanks to your video. To remove the actuator's metal arms from the plastic rotating part you have to unclip it. There is a small plastic part that is part of the rotator which clips on the metal bar. Flip it up to unclip it. 5/30/18
Thanks, I’m scrolling thru the comments looking for this exact help!! 5/1/2021!! Cheers!!🏌️♂️
Thanks for making this video. I’m going to try this tomorrow
A year later.... was it successful?
Omg you have saved me a lot of money man if I could give you a hug I would Hahahaha it’s cold were I live and I couldn’t move it to hot so it sucked but man you hit it right on the dot man thanks a lot bro

Dude that was a very informative video exactly what's going on with my 2001 accord ...ac has stopped as is all push button panel switches like you showed. ... must say looks like a tough job if you don't know electronics like you....wish it was just a fuse! Aaaargh
Awesome video. Thank you
