So did the clone guy and psycho girl go in together? haha
They are the oddest pair.
She isn’t stupid. It’s actually extremely smart. Failing won’t kill her (unlike others) and there is always a 1% chance of getting a rare item that no one would even try to get because of the “risk” which is non existent to her.
That intro to the Frieren replica with the chorus felt like the intro to a Souls-like boss.
When Frieren lives long enough for the internet to become a thing, she's going to be falling for so many scams. "This Nigerian prince says that he has a grimoire that he wants to give me..."
There a thing with Frieren getting Himel come up in her gacha but they have turn him into a girl.
@@milferdjones2573 So the Fate treatment, eh?
99% accurate means Frieren has found something in a chest that looked like a mimic for her to keep trying.
Even if it is 100%, she would says the spell broken
In the Manga, later after this, she eventually hit that 1% and get a grimoire from a false-positive mimic.
“There’s no idiot that will hinder us by falling for mimic trap” Immediately show said idiot falling for a simple mimic trap.
All I know is that Denken unintentionally insulted Frieren and now he has to battle her doppelgänger.
Hey frieren have too be late for the boss figth against herself !
it's just like karma things seeing Denken's spoke and went, "First you challenging her and now you mocking her? Well, this is your present, old man"
I have so much respect for Denken and his crew. They stared death (Frieren copy) in the eyes and squared up.
other parties - very serious, struggling with traps, one almost gets killed
frieren - "woo! treasure!"
There was a super quick snippet where we hear Friedan tell Fern to destroy the gargoyle from a distance before it activates. This juxtaposed with the tense death match Denken’s team had to fight with gargoyles (that cost them one member).
"I am all powerful and will live another thousand years."
Mimick chest- "and I took that personally"
they will kill the all powerful mage without even trying to
Ikr
Not a word about Himel's gamer instinct ? "Oh shoot, this is the exit. Let's go back and explore the other path."
I want to believe they showed us that scene to justify why even when frieren hate mimics always look at them. Cuz the hero told her could be a chsnce in that 1% to be a.grimore
Game map also
He wants his money worth of gameplay.
And how many gamers deliberately open treasure chests they know could be mimics just to trigger the battle for the loot drop and the XP?
Himel's a real one for that
That 1% chance is too good to pass up 😂
I think the same 1% is a whole 1% of a good.grimore. is worth
Its like a 1% chance of a *5 legendary artifact drop. All gamers take that chance no matter the odds.
as long as the consequences of losing is a non factor
Fern: "Frieren, that's a mimic."
Frieren: "Nah, I'd open."
The ending is less threatening when you realize all Denken’s team needs to do is summon a Mimic.
There's never a damn mimic when you need one !
Given the proctor doesn't like fighting I would assume that there IS a way past the guardians that doesn't necessarily include fighting.
Bro that ending of an episode that so unfair lol
“If it wasn’t a test I would be breaking my beaker already”
What a line to describe danger level)
Also you know what is interesting? We see Laufen fight with her clone in close combat. You would think mages would mostly fight with their spells but she went full shaolin Bo staff monk)
That Laufen vs Laufen 1 v 1 was slick as hell. It matched the quality of big shounen that specialize in hand to hand combat.
Frieren breaks the mold by openly showing different variations of what being a mage is. Some go for assassin-mage, warrior-mage, monk-mage etc. class combos and that's so cool
The "long ago" means that denken already anticipated that a frieren clone is there, when they first encounter laufen's
The moment they defeated Laufen clone, Denken already knew something like Frieren clone is gonna f them up.
I can't put a finger on exactly why, but this was one of my favourite episodes so far. It had a great balance between wholesome /cozy / funny and tense / action / hype. Also, I can't think of another show where the "final boss" was the MC.
To be fair, Mimics clearly don't actually pose a threat to Frieren. Her mana acts like a suit of invisible armor around her, like we saw with when Draht tried to cut her head off. So, if you had gone into a situation where there might be something valuable, even if the chance is incredibly low, and in case you're wrong the worst the mimic can do to you is mess up your hair a bit, wouldn't you take that chance?
Frieren is basically a honey badger. It wasn't her first mimic and it won't be her last.
@@Greymist73 Comparing Frieren to a honey badger might be one of the funniest and accurate comparisons I've heard
@@Greymist73 your comment made me rolling on the floor laughing.
Lol
Yeah, they don't even seem able to hurt her, Frieren just complains about how its dark and scares her.
For her own sake, Frieren has to die before her world invents gacha games.
she will be the most down bad gatcha player in the history of gatcha players.
@@AHBrandonReviews Yep she will be. Although many centuries of compound interest on her savings should allow her to Whale hard.
If Sense knew the secret of the dungeon, then her entering the dungeon was a deliberate act to make the test significantly harder than it already was going to be.
(At least for everyone not named ‘Frieren’.)
I'm very surprised Lawine and Kanne didn't join Frieren and Fern, I totally thought that'd be the case but I guess they might be wanting to earn their certification with only their powers, quite a risky decision though. Himmel and then Frieren getting excited about dungeons was so endearing. I really like how Himmel used a grimoire to convince Frieren to continue exploring but it works so well that she's already ahead of him lol.
Ya that was an unexpected decision from them
That and if it does end up in a situation where the applicants have to compete with each other, either Frieren or Fern alone would trivially wipe the floor with the both of them.
FYI: Mimic is Top 3 on the lastest Frieren Popularity poll.
Only Frieren and Himmel are higher.
If a dungeon recognizes you so much it actually uses you as the final boss, that is just terrifying! Especially since the copies even copy your memories. As soon as I saw the replica’s I immediately thought, “oh no…….” And my hunch was completely on the money. As for the one who’s running this test, I actually quite like her, she reminds me of Frieren a bit
She's not benevolent at all. If Frieren wasn't there, the boss would be the examiner, who is probably nearly unbeatable by the examinees. If she was actually benevolent, she wouldn't go along for the test.
Denken's group still has a shot if they can find a mimic real quick.
Nobody’s perfect and I love that we have Frieren the Slayer being utterly powerless against mimics 😂 It’s just too cute.
I think Fern had her 18th birthday at the Episode where she got angry at Stark because she didn't get a present yet
I think so. It Was her 18th birthday? 😅
Wasn't she already 18 on the start of the journey? She will be almost 20 at that point
@@il3fortunato664Stark became 18 at episode 12 and Fern is about 6 to 9 months younger and had her 18th birthday at episode 14. Both of those are 29 years after Himmel's death, and we are still 29 years after his death, meaning they are both still in their 18th year. Fern left with Frieren after Heiter's death 25 years after Himmel's death, meaning they were traveling together for about 4 years and running now, and Stark is in his second year with them.
@@il3fortunato664
- 27 Years after Himmels death Frieren got Fern the hair ornament to her 16th Birthday (Fern said she is already 16 after Frierens comment that Fern has grown taller than her)
- It was 20 Years after Himmels Death at the time she meet Fern (so Fern was around 9 years old here
- We are 29 years after Himmels death right now => 18
@@1993espada
Yeah, forgot bout that
What if they just put a mimic in that room where the golem Frieren is?
that's the play
someone made an animation about it like 2 years ago
I just love Frieren’s little grin after reminiscing about Himmel and his love of dungeons. When this anime is over, it’s gonna be a long wait no matter have long it takes.
Another great episode and all, but... the ending. Literally the last 10 seconds, if not already because of old age, Denken was shitting himself right there. I'd have noped out immediately, exam or not.
bust that golem right then and there
Poor dude. Yeah the girl he's with saw the barrier break, but Denken knows, absolutely knows, all the nothing he did during the last curb stomping she gave him.
Current (on screen) Trapped by a Mimic count: 2
Examiner Girl: I might made a mistake following these two.
(Some fun Dungeon Diving later)
Examiner Girl: I might made the right choice following these two.
Best strategy when going Dungeon Diving with Frieren and Fern: Bring popcorn. LOTS of popcorn.
The doppelganger fights? Oh yeah. Love those in videogames too.
Reminds me of Trails in the Sky the 3rd, on the 'Labyrinth of Gold and Silver' area. The fight against clone Ries was a cakewalk, the fight against Father Kevin's clone a nightmare. Not only does your party lack good AoEs/Multi-hit means to deal with the many targets, said targets put barriers on their allies (the Padre's clone), multi-bomb one character, or 1HKO another (those four deadly undead tanks).
Guess Denken and co. felt the same thing when facing the Frieren clone. Nightmare mode boss, here we come!
That's going to be one hell of a 'rematch' for Denken and his team, who were handed their own asses back to them two episodes ago by Frieren and her Sunday school apprentices. If they win (and I hope they manage without too many casualties) that's going to be VERY cathartic for them.
Speaking of those two girls that were with Frieren, wonder how their DD is going? Hope they too make it to the end.
But of course, the Master-Apprentice (Warrior, Disciple, Heart born, Seven-seeker... Viva the old Nightwish) fight is going to be So. Epic!
Frieren: The gift that keeps on giving. In a neat, fun mimic box.
Frieren keeping try to open the chest despite Fern's warning was so funny 🤣
Denken & Cie gonna have a very hard time to fight Frieren's clone 😱
Another wonderful episode of Frieren's greatness 😎😁
Frieren, the dungeon boss. No checkpoint, no replenishing your mana… do you fight or flight? 🤔
Throw her a mimic 😅
On second watch I realized that the human-shaped soot was probably the guy who went inside alone.
Yeah.
Idk, the stain didnt seem to be recent ngl, maybe its from one of the adventurer parties that the examiner talked about at the episode's start
@@vrbe3694 oh okay.
A copy of Frieren as the final boss of this second test, yikes. I can hear the Dark Souls boss music.
We are at like 1/3 of the manga, there is a lot of material and a good arc to do a second season, to be honest if they anouce that a 2nd season is in the making at the end of this, i will totally expect that
What an great episode we got to encounter Frieren’s hardest enemy yet a mimic. Which she totally fall for but luckily she has lot of experience of what to do about it. I also liked how meanwhile the test giver was like “have I chosen the wrong team?” But later on she changed her mind as Frieren and Fern does seem like the right choice for her.
I also liked the character development and exploration. As while she is one of the best mages her age. She does not have a burning passion for magic like most other. But rather that she does it as it makes Frieren happy when she gets magical stuff. Which is such a parent thing that Fern said liking someone because someone who you hold dear really like doing it.
Also like Denken and how logical he was in how the test would best be beaten. But sadly not enough people is with him. Also rip him as unless this clone have less mana then Frieren. Someone from his group could get very hurt the next episode.
Honestly this 28 episodes doesn't even cover half the Manga that's already out. The Manga is past chapter 130 already. And there's 2 arcs in the later part of the story that are better than this arc. So hopefully they start working on season 2 next year.
Isn't the manga at chapter 124 as of now?
@@AboutToExpire yeah, I thought it was 134 but I looked and it was 124
oh yeah, that two arc were the complex arc ever.
LOL I thought they would only fight anyone with them, that is brutal having to fight Frieren of all people. I thought only about a third would pass the exam, it might be even less than that now lol. Unless there's only one copy of a clone per person, so if another party defeats them there won't be anymore clones of that person.
What's worse: fighting a Frieren clone or those statues from Solo Leveling?
For real
Good question... Either way I'm dead but I rather be killed by an copy of Frieren then those damn statues... Those things are nightmare fuel at least Frieren is gonna end me quickly.
Hey, I think the Frieren clone will kill me with less suffering. Sign me up to that one.
@@acoolnameemm are you sure?
@@Mr.WestcottX Oh he's sure. Those statues make a reappearance and they're even worse the second time around.
Frieren, even to her most hated enemies, doesn't play with her food.
Frieren and Chilchuck would have a lot to talk about given their history with mimics. 😂
Tbh Frieren is the type of person to think the 0.1% bacteria is alive and dangerous. Sense does not like examiners fighting each other. I don’t think it’s all about power but also about interesting personalities. Fern is 18 or 19 actually right now at this point. Still rather young although it’s interesting to see how she feels after becoming a mage and achieving her goal for Heiter. Also Frieren copy being the end boss is going to be fun and interesting. Also Frieren with that frizzy hair is hilarious. Neverseen elf hair look like that. Also Genau’s test was sneaky and brutal. It’s interesting to see how Wirbel decides to switch around their enemies. Popularity is there and it’s crazy how much fanart there is for the show. The surge in art is astounding. And the magic is truly magnificent and you can replay many scenes. I wonder if we will be able to finish the exam arc this season.
fern is 18 in the anime currently and she's still 19 in the manga (stark just turned 20 in a recent chapter).
honestly wouldnt be surprised they defeat the freiren doppelganger with a mimic
I don't know why, but Denken strikes me as a Mage Mr. Miyagi. I could almost picture him say "You Magic yes, okay, you magic no, okay. You magic guess so? quissh just like grape"
I see it!
Poor Denken rolled 1 and encountered a dungeons' boss already :D That said I feel like the architectural style of the dungeon reminds me of the area Serie is in. If that is actually true they may even find a copy of Serie. No idea who would be the real boss at that point. The Serie clone one would probably be for Frieren and Fern to face.
Sense really gave them the Escape Titan 😂
Mimic wins - flawless victory.
There's already more than enough material for another season the length of this one, and it would end with a banger of an arc that puts this entire season to shame.
My only worry is that they'll adapt the lead up to that arc as one cour and then adapt the arc as a movie. That would be a huge mistake, as it will definitely need more time then a single movie would give it, and it deserves to have an uninterrupted narrative.
It is interesting that despite taking the time to backtrack and explore every path, Frieren and Fern still made it to the final floor without encountering any of the clones OR any of the other examinees.
Now the first could be because whatever is controlling the clones is deliberately making them avoid Frieren and target the other examinees first, but to not run into any of the other teams at all means that even with all the backtracking Frieren and Fern are progressing through the dungeon quite fast, and staying ahead of all the other teams, passing the areas those teams are going through before first.
With the exception of Denken’s team, whom they are staying behind.
Just her mana capacity, she can just deploy her shield until Denken's party run out of mana.
So whole dungeon is a mimic ahaha.
It was interesting how Frieren stopped Serie from standing on a trap in the dungeon.
Knowing this test was set up by Serie, I wonder if that would have been a sly sabotage against Frieren and Fern.
EDIT - Sense (not Serie).
The proctor is Sense, Serie is a blonde elf
@@dgk030593 Good correction! 👍🏾
I honestly thought the clones were like the Mimic Tears in Elden Ring and copied whoever came close to them.
The fact that the dungeon chose Frieren as the final boss- hoo boy!
ok, my stupid idea of the week: if the clone spell actually copies the memories, there's a chance Frieren's clone is just gonna get out from the control of the spell and straight up help them.
I had no idea thats why Made in Abyss comes out so infrequently O_O
when the last season ended there was literally no material left to adapt but the production committee is intent on adapting all of it hence the confirmation of more just no release date
For Denken's sake, let's hope that whatever memory is being used to create the Frieren clone does know how big her mana pool actually is.
Since not so many people had much thought about the golem, i want to talk a little bit about it.
Based on the information from the show so far, the golem is having this characteristics:
1) Despite being prototype, having ability to destroy the wall Denken(who consider to have strength on par with first class mage) failed to break.
2) It's created to ensure the safety of participants, which mean who create this can modify the golem to do specific job.
3) It can be mass production (or at least more than 18), making if anyone wants to pick a fight with the maker will have to facing multiple powerful golem while have to deal with the maker
Spoiler part:
Since the dungeon core has a defense mechanism that made perfect copies of the people who try to conquer it, i think it's better to pay attention to the copies will be shown and mentioned when we know who's still stay in the dungeon. It will be an important clue to someone's capability
The thing is, when you think about it... 1% of chests not being a mimic over the course of thousands of years of lifespan...
Freiren almost certainly has a hoard of treasures just from that 1%.
So of course she's going to keep trying, it's probably as addictive as modern Gacha games for her.
Gotcha game companies would ❤ Frieren. 1% chance to win? I'm in 💯
Frieren disguising herself as a magic grimoire addict, but in reality we know she is a gambling addict, only gambler says the 1% odd as a justification.
I first thought it only imitated those in the room. So like splitting up would be better so they wouldn't go against Frieren but nah. So excited for next week! Don't think the test takers combined can take her. The only one who might is Fern because she's quicker on the draw. I can see Frieren and Fern failing because they're too slow and everyone else failing because Frieren is in the dungeon.
1 percent chance of rare loot. frieren is a real gamer
I was crackin up this episode! With that ending, though, I'm really excited for next week! :)
D&D should really charge licensing fee for mimic.
Given Frieren's long life span and the number of dungeons she's cleared with the Hero's party, she has opened at least 200 mimic chests. That means she's gotten about 2 grimoires that nobody else would get because the chests gave false positive mimic readings. She can get out of them on her own. It's perfectly logical for her to open chests that check out as mimics.
Fern should really just carry Frieren to the bottom.
50 years she least fell for a mimic?????? That one little flashback showed us that she gets eaten by mimic at least twice a year since Fern sounded like she saw her with those wrinkly hair often enough. We just didnt see her falling for it last 80 years or so. I enjoyed that little flashback more than her destroying the barrier.
I'll bet Frieren the Slayer also own the highest kill count of mimics in history, in addition to her record on demons. Perhaps one day her mimic-slaying reputation is great enough they will stop eating her...
😂😂 This episode was beautiful and funny Af, and sence realizing that she fked up joining them was funny and she's such a sweet character and other character to look out for is our mum Methode she's a well written character. You'll love this arc I promise you it's full of action down to the end of the arc it's pure madness
I just want someone to make a mana shield, then after blocking transform that shield into a huge sword with their staff as the handle.
And give that mage a black outfit with bbright blonde spiky hair.
And call it the Barrier Buster Sword.
She isn’t stupid. It’s actually extremely smart. Failing won’t kill her (unlike others) and there is always a 1% chance of getting a rare item that no one would even try to get because of the “risk” which is non existent to her.
A copy of Frieren? Well, good luck with that…If it really does copy exactly the mages abilities then that means she is different from the one he faced, this one should be going for the kill. My instincts say they are f*cked, but I want to believe on the LeftRightGoodnight grandpa
There is already enough material for another season, the real long wait would be after that season though.
Fern is 18 nearing 19 at this Point.
Yes Sense is genuine a pacifist, but the task she gives out. OH boy!
Endboss Hype Hype Hype
either way she's a child to an elf and that's what makes it funny
she's 18 but she's not nearing 19 at this point lol. for instance she's STILL 19 years old in the manga and we currently have 124 chapters out (while the anime just adapted chapters 48 and 49). Stark just turned 20 in the manga and fern is a few months younger than him.
@@lisakulig3140 After Chapter 29 with Ferns birthday they traveled through the Band Woods, the Laub Hills, were in the Orden nobleman estate (3 months), stayed a week+ with grand father Voll, made the sidequest around Krafts forgotten Hero statue. Travel then got interrupted by a blizzard for about a month, sick Fern taken 1 week+ afterwards, from there last way travel to Äußerst, and trained when reached 2 months before the start of the exam) - That is more then half a year sweety.
I am so happy that I saw Delicious in Dungeon before this episode to understand what a Mimic is.
She's trying to reach that 1%😅
The thing is, I don't know if Frieren's approach to mimics actually is stupid. Because we also found out this episode that really, the worst thing that happens to her if she gets caught by a mimic is that she gets a new hairstyle for the day. So despite how unpleasant she may find it when she's caught in one, ultimately that 1% chance of finding a new grimoire outweighs the 99% chance of temporary darkness and drill curls.
Then again, she did say she was SURE that first mimic would be a real chest. So maybe she really is just a dumbass gacha gambler.
How much fan art of Beako comparing haitstyles with Frieren are we gonna see now?
Lol
Great epi. Frieren is such a joyful loot goblin it warms my soul, and the Hero Flash back made me laugh loud and long.
OMG mimics, copies of characters that mimic characters abilities, this is MIMIC TEAR!!! It was an honor watching you Frieren but this final boss is your end 🤣🤣🤣🫡🫡🫡☠️☠️☠️
Good news the material is already there, I think the anime will end around chapter 60 and there are 124 chapters published
The end should be her finally finding a grimoire and in it should be the spell her master taught her for the flower fields. She would be pleased she can say to fern. I told you so, sad that's it reminds her of her master and pissed she already know the spell
Grandpa denken is the best.
There is no risk for her, 1% chans that its not an mimic totally worth it considering Frieren gets a bad hair day at worst.
My first thought when they mentioned copying memories was of the Einsam way back in Episode 5. The Einsam's illusion prey on the memories of the victim to present a convincing illusion of their loved one. But when Frieren saw the illusion of Himmel, the illusion said "shoot me", and Frieren was like "yeah, that is what he'd say". So the Einsam's illusion basically backfired on it due to the specific memories it copied, presumably because as a monster/demon (unclear which it is), it doesn't really understand the memories it's copying.
So now we have a Frieren clone, who is obviously a fearsome opponent in combat... but if she's a copy of Frieren with elements of Frieren's personality, does she actually want to fight? Can she be distracted by a mimic chest, or just some magical junk? Will this illusion backfire on the monster creating it just like with the Einsam? I'm hoping this ends up as something more interesting than a straight-up battle between Copy!Frieren and Denken's party.
Amazing episode! Would love to see you review Undead Unluck. Seems slept on.
I've made videos on it and cover it weekly on patreon!
I'm at chapter 71 out of currently 124 chapters, and I am way past the current arc if I remember correctly, source material shouldn't be a problem.
If it shares even memories, would the clone frieren also fall for the mimic?
Should but no one really knows about her obsession with mimics but maybe they will accidently show a grimiore and distract her lol
I jumped ahead in the manga and it feels like they have enough material for a second season so far or maybe at the least, half a season. Are we getting 25 or 26 episodes this season. I'm guessing it's finishing with the results of the exam.
28 episodes this season
When the one group got ambushed, I groaned a little at how some of the test takers will take any opportunity to sabotage anyone for no obvious benefit.
The mimics made me gasp so loud
but they weren't sabotaged by test takers, they had to face their clones which is something the dungeon itself does.
@@lisakulig3140 uhhhh...yeah. I know. I thought the clones were test takers until they revealed them
lol I haven't watched the episode yet, but here's your view-time and a "Thumbs-Up" and a comment. I already read the manga so I know what happens. Denken is a boss. Almost as smart as I am.
I mean is it really a gacha if opening a chest is always a net positive for her? Mimics don’t post any threats to her anyways and if she encounters, say, 10000 could-be-mimics in her lifetime she’ll miss 100 real chests on average if she decides to always believe the spell. Why abandon those 100 chests over 9900 mimics that aren’t even a threat to her?
She loves Fate GO, 1% gacha ftw
About a second season; there is more than enough manga for a second season.
And the next arc is probably the best in the story currently !
Would Wirbel's restraint spell work on Frieren, we haven't seen a counter to that one yet other than blocking the users vision not that anyone in Denken's group knows the spell
I think there’s enough in the el dorado arc for another single cour season.
Yeah
I knew the mimic was going to get her again once they mentioned it again. Then it happens twice 😂😂😂... Well fern is going beat frerns double is what I think
Have to add how much I love the mimic joke gets a giggle out of me every time
Spoiler alert.........
In the later chapter in the manga (I can't remember which one); there is a flashback shown that her gamble has paid off, she found a grimioar, while she was travalling with Himmel and Co......
why do i hear boss music?
This was another great episode imho. FWIW, I think the 2nd time we see Frieren being swallowed by a mimic it was supposed to be in the past, cause she was explaining that the offensive magic she used when alone to free herself gave her frizzy hair/ringlets.
No there is a second scene with the three of them after the fact I show it in the video. There was a flashback but she was hit two times in this episode aline by 2 different chests
@@AHBrandonReviewsAh, I thought it was just the same mimic but from another angle but you're right that it looks like there was at least two--the second scene has Fern trying to restrain Freiren from entering another mimic (so quick it's easy to miss IMHO).
