Fern is like let me solo her and I'm dying to see if all 7 of them pass! Land using clones like that messed with my head! See my full uncut live reaction to the episode over on Patreon www.patreon.com/BrandonReviews
I have a feeling the other teams which survived their clone encounter will gather at the entrance of the boss room. Remember Freiren and Denken said they did not have enough information on the clone. And then we were shown how the other teams are gathering that information separately. So, I am speculating that they will all come together and share what they have learned. This also plays into what was said by the two 1st class mage at the start, that to pass this 2nd test the examinees have to work together.
Fern said: "Nah, I'd win."
Fern : Naah I'd win. Yea same vibes as Gojo 😂😂
this isnt an 1 v 1 but ok fern fanboy
Fern is tired of waking her up each night. So, she’s going to put her to sleep *forever*
*“I may be able to kill Ms. Frieren.”*
That’s a crazy thing to say to the person right next to you 😂
Frieren smiled to that tho.
Fern : Naah I'd win.
Here’s my sure fire, 100% success strategy in defeating Imposter Frieren.
1. Tie up Frieren with magic
2. While Fern battles Imposter Frieren, everyone else goes and captures a mimic
3. Throw mimic into the room and when Imposter Frieren gets eaten, grab Frieren and make a beeline for the exit
It’s fool proof, because the only person that could ruin it has been immobilize
Potentially fatal flaw. Frieren prime is fooled first.
Get two comfy beds instead. Safer play.
Concider: get two mimics, one to trap Frieren, second to trap fake Frieren. That way OG Frieren cant interfere.
Lol.
Frieren is such a fun character. Overpowered done right.
I don't think the mimic would work since the clones don't have a mind and they are also following a specific program
On paper the plan is solid, except Frieren is immune to restraint magic lol
Fern wasn't too keen on the whole hug scene. Her pouting while holding Frieren afterwards was cute not going to lie.
it was like a child seeing their mom hug another kid and acting jealous lol. so cute!
Exactly! Also, if it was Stark in Frieren's position, Fern would have called him a perv.
@@randomtrainerx.3424 She would be jealous of both
Madhouse is really something else not going to lie, as a long time Manga reader of Frieren I have nothing but smile on my face seeing everyone appriciate this series next few episodes will be pure peak, this whole test is peak.
And also the fight scene for Übel was insane. Not only was the animation so smooth and fluid, but the transition from a 3rd to 1st person POV midbattle was amazing. I've only seen this done a few times and never done with such fluidity. The Madhouse animation team continues to bring their A-game.
I'm glad Denken was smart enough to wait for more people to come and not give up, I know he initially proposed the idea but I like that he's trying anyways because he knows it is necessary for everyone. Fern claiming she could kill Frieren was a surprise, I'm sure it has to do with her speed but I'm curious to see what else she has up her sleeve. I feel like Frieren is going to be real proud of her once Fern kills clone Frieren lol.
If I didn't have a strict, "No Sexualizing Frieren" policy, I'd want this Fern vs Frieren fight to involve pillows.
I might be wrong but when Land replies "Who knows?" when Ubel asks him if he's a clone it may be one of those language barrier things that don't translate well to English. For example, if you answer "¿Quién sabe?" to that question, which is literally Spanish for "Who knows?" you might also mean something closer to "Wouldn't you like to know?" instead of acknowledging that you also don't know. The fact that he later asks her why she fought her clone if she also knew the one dying was a clone shows he does know which is the clone and which is the original.
I just like how fern is like “If that’s the case, I can defeat frieren”
Next episode: *FRIENDLY ZOLTRAAK-130 ABOVE!*
lmao nice one
Fern : Naah I'd win.
It continues to amaze me now over 20+ episodes in just how good the production quality is episode to episode and how well Madhouse is adapting the manga. The directorial vision on display is so pleasing to see.
Madhous is realy just doing juistice to this anime. I think they can be proud of what they are creating here.
I tought the "throw mimic at Frieren's clone" was just a joke but seeing how Übel's clone was as sadistic as her going for Land's escape bottle.
That mimic joke may actually work.
In that case someone create a Stark Illusion just in case Fern's clone shows up. She will be to focused on bullying that Stark Illusion to care about the other mages.
Land is one of my favorite extra characters in this arc. The reveal in the end of this arc will show how OP he actually is.
When the group rocked up to the room with the Frieren clone, I remembered immediately. Sometime in an early episode, Frieren made an off-hand comment how Fern had better reaction time than her and could beat her. And then the ending confirmed it. That is... that is Chekhov's Gun, right there. Good writing.
Übel and Land continuing to be the greatest dysfunctional couple. I can't wait for Übel to kill him in cold blood at the end of the arc. Anything else would be stupid.
Lowkey expected Frieren to look at the wall relief and be like "I remember that guy. They did a poor job of painting me though."
Edel left the weakest impression. It's like her only reason for existence was to show that manipulation doesn't work on the clones.
although Land would probably just be somewhere else, drinking tea and staying ahead of Ubel's yandere-like attempts to "empathize" with him and Ubel will act all cute as if she didn't mean to actually kill him
I'm not surprised if Land is just chilling at home.
@@kevinvandal8595
How did you get it?
@@il3fortunato664 Well if I could make clones of myself I would also send them to work so I could stay home
Absolutely peak, suspense fuelled, action-packed episode. I loved Übel's sacrifice and the bait and switch when Land saved her.
Interesting lore gained on Frieren's weaknesses - i.e., there are barely any. Also loved her enthusiasm for the upcoming battle against herself. Can't wait to see what Fern can do next week.
Fern's gonna release all of her frustration on mischievous Mistress Frieren's shenanigans via the clone
@@TR-qf2gt I thought that too 👏
What amazing episode of Frieren was plenty of different cool fights. I really liked that first combat scene with Ubel versus herself. As she trusted Land to save her in the end as she fought her doppelgänger. Which was so beautiful to see finally how Ubel fights in close combat. Also seeing how the clone take on the person personality. It was cool to see shadow Ubel take Land bottle so that he could not escape. Then just tormenting them by just waiting for them after slashing Land. But luckily Land used his copy and helped Ubel defeat her copy. And I got to say that they are a pretty good team up and perhaps even couple.
Also funny how Denken group was just peace out from that room with clone Frieren. As they then where too scared to enter the room for half a day before reinforcement come in the form of Frieren’s group. But the most exciting thing next week is to watch that master versus student combat where Fern will take on Frieren doppelgänger.
I figured out the Fern/Frieren dynamic...just ask yourself this: Who do kids end up taking care of when they hit 20?
Their grandparents!
Fern is like a mom to Frieren because Frieren is very old and acts like a child...just like a grandmother does. Yet the grandma still cares and gets proud of its grandkid for every success along the way. They teach you things from bygone eras until you master them as well. They're both your parents and your responsibilities...
but most of all:
I would also be pissed if my grandma was holding a random brat in her arms instead of me! lol.
I'm glad that narratively speaking, Frieren and Fern didn't encounter anything too rough up until now, so that we can see what Fern can do against Frieren at full strength.
Another fantastic episode of Frieren.
All the fights were really interesting... I didn't expect to be waiting another week until we got the Frieren imposter fight but I love how we got to see the other fights that were happening. The Ubel and Land conversion was really interesting... I honestly didn't know if that was a fake or not but he was bleeding so I thought it couldn't be a fake... I didn't believe the fakes could bleed. But props to Ubel for thinking up that plan to make him come out and save her. It wasn't something he wanted to do but he did it anyway.
The animation for that was top notch. The first person angle was the best imo... Loved that sequence.
After that we got to see how the person who was meant to come around and help with hypnosis of the imposter frieren struggle because she has no fighting capabilities. And I had a hunch these things didn't have a brain so they couldn't be hypnotised but goddamn they pack a mean punch. They really are perfect replicas and those drills of death were scary. I'd be panicking right there. Because that person is definitely a problem.
It's kinda funny how Frieren was getting a hug from that girl (she's hot btw) and Fern was getting really protective of her because she didn't like someone else being around her. So she took her away and held her close like a mother protecting her child. But you know Frieren is proud of her when she said she knows how to beat her mimic.
She is definitely a talent... A generational talent and you can imagine her surpassing Frieren even though Frieren has thousands of years of experience. She can be beaten and she has admitted she has been beaten by humans before this.
Anyway awesome episode and great review Brandon.
Fern: I know how to defeat Miss Frieren.
Everyone: Which one?
Fern: Let's bring a Mimic 😂
Fern : Naah I'd win.
Im buying every Frieren Manga as a collection. Im not gonna read them because I want to be surprised with the anime. Frieren and Fern are now my obsession!
One of the things I like on this anime is that everyone is smart, smart to the point that they strategies or talk things out before attacking an opponent which is pretty common in other anime. They are reasonable every battle they took.
I have a feeling the price tag for the property damage after this fight is going to be extreamly high.
See when she said that she could kill Frieren, I immediately remember some episodes back to where Frieren said there were a few mages who’ve beaten her and even one or some being human. I immediately thought maybe fern could become one of them, now we’re one step closer to seeing that. Next episode is gonna be good.
If Fern can win, I'd be worried about fighting her clone next.
It’s really just Frieren Vs EVERYBODY lol.
The fact Friend isn’t sure she can take down a clone of of herself with the help of 5 other mages speaks volumes as to how careful she is, but also to the fact that everyone else there is so insignificant to Frieren that their being there doesn’t necessarily even help Frienren beat herself lmao.
I swear there is a joke comic I can't find anymore where they beat the clone Frieren by throwing a mimic in the room and the clone gets eaten by the mimic.
Ubel and Land are an interesting pair to watch, I don't necessarily ship them but it's an intriguing dynamic. It was nice to learn something about Land and Ubel looked pleased lol.
Probably going to drag a mimic in there and let the Frieren clone play with it.
Im sad we didn't get the Frieren fight this episode, but honestly I'm hype for this next episode
Ubel is pretty cute how she interacts with Land. Never calling him by his name lol. When he asked her if she can empathize with him now and she just wants to hang around him some more.
The mimic could be used on the Frieren copy. Fern is like Nah I’d win. Lots of amazing fights and spells. We have 28 episodes total. The clones don’t have a mind. Also Ubel and Land bit was interesting with how Ubel is trying to understand Land who doesn’t want her to die. This is a good team test. Although ironic how the hypnosis girl who was thought to be needed was skewered and then had to escape.
Fren getting jealous of Frieren being hugged by another busty mage...
They could just throw random Grimoire inside the room and all shot together when she's distracted
I knew before I came here what many of the comments would be…….toss a mimic in the room.😂😂😂
Fern : owh this is so gonna be personal. I finally have a chance to really un alive her!
Fern knows Frieren's weakness - Fern won't need overwhelming power if Frieren's golem acts exactly like the real world Frieren, then the golem will have a curiosity and desire for grimoires that Fern can exploit.
That one dude who went into the dungeon alone is screwed. Also Fren and Frieren are such an adorable duo, looking forward to the master vs student fight next week.
There was a brief shot of him, all alone, near the end when they panned through each of the remaining groups in turn. He did not look like he was in a good spot….
Great review 👏.
Fern will tempt the doppelganger to take a nap while resting her head in Fern's lap.
Interesting detail in the fight between Edel’s group and the Sense clone:
The Sense clone could easily have killed Edel instantly there. All her vital points were wide open. But the clone hit her instead with a non-lethal strike. So clone has copied Sense’s pacifistic reluctance to kill.
Another great episode of Frieren imho... At this point I'm not sure if either the Ubel or Land that we are seeing are the real thing... Also, I'm looking forward to Fern vs. Fake Frieren--I think the rest of the 7 of them might end up fighting the other 2 clones.
Denken and Co.: So glad we have the real elf-weapon to help us weather the onslaught of that fearsome copy.
Fern: My chance to vent a bit about my slob of a master who sleeps late, buys stupid trinkets, collects garbage, gets trapped by Mimics, teaches me bad habits, and does everything with that carefree smile of hers on her face.
Frieren: I wonder what spell makes that copy work... could I reproduce it? And what awaits us behind that door? Will there be ancient grimoires in there? (Her inner Anya makes a 'Waku-Waku' face).
Sense the Hair-bender: I'm having a ball. I might just pass these people simply on account of how well they are meeting my expectations and all the fun I've had today while Dungeon Diving with this ageless elf-child and her pouty teenager guardian/apprentice.
You're right, Brandon. You can never really predict what's going to happen in Frieren's tale. One minute someone is fighting for their lives, the next they are stabbed, or you discover they were a copy all along.
There may be hints, or you may suspect it, but it will always surprise you. Because there are none of the normal 'queues' we expect from other stories with a similar vibe.
No banter. No dramatic power creep or twist.
Just BAM. Things happen.
And I love this style of storytelling. Not easy to pull off, but when done right... 👌👌👌
03:45 Yes! I thought i'm the only one that really like it
In a world of imagination, One can imagine to defeat another depending on how great their imagination is. There are also instances where one specific magic technique is undeniably strong but that doesn't mean its invincible. Think about rock, paper, scissors.
If anyone were to beat freiren. Kanne can do it with presence of rain or a large body of water. I doubt fern can do it. She never saw the serious mode freiren in battle.
Fern knows the locations of all the Mimics they will be fine
Fern : Naah I'd win.
It's not gonna be Fern vs the clone, the discussion was who's gonna finish the clone while Frieren is fighting the clone.
Fern is the perfect candidate because she knows Frieren best and she has other talent and skill that was hinted in the story so far that can do the job.
I also forgot how many people were in the dungeon. The clone fights have been cool
Let's face it, they just have to bring a bunch of Mimics and fight will be over in no time.
SSS tier thumbnail 🤣
I love that the standard method of beating a stronger opponent in this world is basically RPG cheese mechanics, just stun-lock them with status effects. Of course, the devs would make Frieren immune to them just to ruin their Any% Speed Run and nerf the otherwise OP Methode.
watch her just summon a mimic and the clone has no other choice but to get stuck in it
But if they can get past frieren copy, that somewhere there's a pouting Fern copy.
Throw a mimic at it.
Nobody sees Land coming.
Of course Fern would know how to defeat Frieren - put a whole bunch of mimics in front of her and she'd be assured victory.
So is like anyone else a little concerned that a Fern golem hasn't been seen yet?
So I'm wondering are we going to see a copy fern next episode hope so
I'm manga reader and I just understand why Land and Ubel fight Ubel double. Godness Frieren is just so well writen !!! ❤
Oh man too bad it won't be a 1 vs 1, it is gonna be hype tho seeing the clone version of frieren go all out ( presumably).
simple, find a mimic, throw it in there, wait 2 min, ggwp
I personally don't think fern can beat Frieren in 1v 1 for now but i also believe she could become stronger than Frieren in future.
Oh for sure she can't in a one vs one someday she probably will maybe in 10 years. But with a team she can beat her I believe
yeah right fern soloing frieren 😏
Let's go!!! 😊
So, any bets on who the Fern copy is going to be a challenge for?
either she joins in on this fight or we don't see her at all
Fern : Naah I'd win.
I'm afraid we will lose
Fern -this is going to be a devasting loss to Freren1
Does Fern have a mimic in her pocket?
It is time for Fern to surpass her master Frieren 😎🔥
Next episode will be even more insane than this week one 😤
My thoughts it was the old Frieren from the last time she was there since Duncan came there first 🤷♂️
Is it live, or is it Memorex!
Hi
Frieren is currently better than fern in every way possible EXCEPT casting speed. Fern is the Queen in that regard.
Like yes.... Frieren outclasses Fern on mana, experience, adaptability, arsenal, knowledge, and pretty much everything but in a battle, sometimes the one who strikes first will be the victor.
Personally I hope they don’t beat Frieren specially fern. I hope Frieren stays out and then has to come in when everyone else fails and has to take out herself.
Fern is faster, that is what they will rely on.
Fern : Naah I'd win.
Hi Brandon please check out ninja kamui and review it I think it's pretty good
Fern is a faster caster than Frieren. I think she can just spam Frieren to dead.
With people yes just herself not at this time
Fern : Naah I'd win.
Has no one noticed? Why is there no Fern clone? Ok, I'll spill my theory. Theirs no Fern clone because the dungeon couldn't sense her. No one was thinking about her because she just uses basic skills. So, Fern's not seen as a threat, but remember Frieren gets scared when Fern gets mad. Why, well what do we know about Fern's skill she can mask her presence and cast spells fast then anyone Frieren has ever met. Just as you said, Frieren looked happy to see Fern make that claim. It also bookended well with the dungeon search where Fern seemed annoyed with Frieren's need to search for the hidden chamber. Once it was found, and the group discovered the spiritual wall carving. Fern learned a lesson, taking little extra time could lead to something amazing. Frieren onthe other hand, was happy to see her joy in the discovery
Land, hehe.
Wait. You've "felt" like Fern's a prodigy? She IS a prodigy.
Land is an interesting character. I think he is phoning it in. Ubel cannot empathize with Land to steal his magic tricks because he is actually not there. The real Land is at home drinking some coffee. All the clones of Land are the real Land so we do not know where he is. Fern knows how to beat Frieren because she knows Frieren. Might be something lame like summoning a mimic or distracting Frieren clone with a low percent chance of getting a grimoire. I do not think Frieren can be easily distracted while she is fighting. Not sure how Fern will beat Frieren clone so this might be interesting. Fern probably knows Frieren better than Frieren knows herself. I think Land could beat Frieren.
