Those aren't meant to cruise over 55mph anyway, at least with the ratios, above that speed it will heat up. You can make one a lot safer with the basic thing of looking after the underside... Which most owners don't do. Leaf springs commonly collapse in post 1982 Reliants or become very saggy therefore increasing body roll drastically. It's very fun as a driver but terrifying as a passenger. Around corners you just ease in and it does nothing, you can feel every single thing the car is doing in case of driving a Robin. After a few months of driving you trust it and begin cornering faster than most cars around you. Great video, love seeing Robins 🎉
Interesting! And absolutely, I think they got an unfortunate bad name, which was definitely linked more to poor maintenance! But it’s nice to put a positive video for the great little Robin marque!
That looks great. I hope your dad enjoys it. I drove a Robin, once! I got up to around 30MPH on a rather windy day. It scared the living daylights out of me.
First, I had no idea that you are such a car guru (subscribed today). I have followed your extraordinary wife, Lia for years during a time when I wanted to reach through the screen to offer her help and support because it broke my heart to see what she was experiencing. It has been so beautiful to witness her journey and the love you have for each other. I cried watching this video because she is surrounded by love and genuine care. In a way, it was healing for me to watch her lovingly paint the car because she finally appears to have peace in her life and I appreciate you for not only supporting her, but allowing her to discover the extraordinary value and gifts she has in living authentically free. Best wishes for you both and Happy Father's Day to your dad. ❤️
What a lovely comment. Thank you. She has worked so hard to get to the place she is now. And is in a place with lots of love and life. Which is amazing to be around. Have a lovely day :)
He has a great sense of humour, at all times! And I agree, she is! It was cool to see how her style has developed since she did the early paintings to now. Have a great day!
@@HudsonAutoFilms i will have a good day, but my daughter is going away with her boyfriend for being together for one year. I have got a similar sense of humour as your father, a lot of people think I'm the mad welsh man. You have a good day to. 😊
Wow - the carb reminded me of my first car (a mini clubman estate) which had a separate float chamber. Part was failing (well, it was spewing petrol over the exhaust), so I got a complete replacement from the scrapyard. That was failing on the other side, so I frankensteined them together and, lo and behold, it worked. Much easier fix than more modern fuel injection systems. I miss carburettors.
At first I was, Your wife oddly looks exactly like an OG youtuber, and then Oh, she is THE OG RUclips legend! Was not expecting a crossover of blast from the past old YT with the current car stuff content I watch now 🙂 This was fun 👍
i swear what a diffrence a electric ignition kit makes on these old girls makes them purrr and couple that with an electric fuel pump instead of that crappy unreliable mechanical pump. you wouldnt belive the diffrence it makes. Better fuel supply better bang equals a much more smoother run and reliability.
i got 95 out of mine it was as scary as hell though. Connected a hoover hose directly to the air filter from the matrix box when i wanted a little more id switch the fan on (i removed the filter and replaced it with a patch of nylon tights to keep the bits out) i was hoping the ribbed hover tube would add a vortex affect to allow more air into the carb. i also extended the rear axle by 6 inches using 3 inch wheelspacers to give it a better footprint (to make it a little less tippy). I also added a rear roof spoiler too force the front end down. I also polished and ported the head. At 95 she still had a little more go in her but i didnt i was begining to lose my vision due to the vibrations. very very very scary i even had a passanger. But it was also fun. like a Alton towers ride except theres a chance you might die. Always be wary of people who go hmmm i wonder. lmao
Many years ago, I was a passenger in my dad's car, and we were following my dad's mate, who was driving a Reliant Robin. He got to 90 Mph on a downhill stretch of the M62, and when the motorway bended, he was on two wheels. I was scared for him. I'd rather drive an Asda shopping cart.
Yeah sorry mate but I think they are death traps , my former mate was layed up for a few Months after being Rammed by a drunk driver years ago so I steer really clear of them , display is ok but to drive a big No no ! Please don't hate l have seen them in Pieces , l even went on a trip to the Midlands to see them being made as a kid , even went to a Cadbury's Factory, it was an exchange school excursion for one week ! ( Bond Bug )
The Rialto had a different front, this is a Robin Mk2. Has it on the V5, identity stamp and on the sticker which was removed from the boot. Have a google
Glad you enjoyed! Thought it was about time to introduce Lia (the spelling is an abbreviation of a Hawaiian name, where she was born) I think that’s just the old Lancia! I do have some new bits hiding around the back, but focusing on the 4x4 build which comes out soon!
What a great father's day present! For the man who has everything, but won't have one of those - truly unique!
The only trouble is…what do we get him next year!

@@HudsonAutoFilms It really is. You'll get loads of smiles and photos driving that down into the centre of towns!
Looks great! Few gaps on the drivers side still!!!
Yep! Lots more to do, but the deadline cut us off!
What a lovely family ❤
I’m very lucky!
That looks great. I hope your dad enjoys it. I drove a Robin, once! I got up to around 30MPH on a rather windy day. It scared the living daylights out of me.
It’s was good fun and he loves it! Haha that’s brilliant, I’m not sure I’d dare take one more than a few miles!!

Glad you enjoyed! Haha it was great fun to work together and make something fun!
Beautiful. Meadow camo.
Hahah
Brilliant I love the artwork
Thank you!!
Thanks for correctly calling it a Reliant Robin and not a Robin Reliant like most people do. Well done!
That drives me crazy! I think Top gear contributed to the misunderstanding
Great video, nice to see the family 👍🏻 and what a brilliant present.
Glad you enjoyed! You can’t go wrong with a Reliant Robin…!

@@HudsonAutoFilms I'm grateful. Wishing you both the best of everything. Your channel is amazing and you are both so talented.
Very cool .Love it
It’s a great bit of fun!
My husband had many of them in 1970s I used to be nervous as a passenger but I drove it a few times we moved up to Ford fiesta and never looked back ❤
Lovely that you got to experience them in their heyday! I must admit it is a scary drive!!
I've owned 2 in the past and they were the best fun I've ever had out of a car , scary..nah
Great fathers day present and amazing artwork :) Is that a Lancia Beta I spot at 16:00?
He was very pleased! Yes it is :) I’ve got a couple of videos on it, need to start working on it soon!
Your wife sounds American. Your dad is awesome. Happy Fathers' Day to the father's, and may God continue to bless all.
She is American! Haha yes dad is a legend, god bless

Fantastic story! I’m on the same page, I miss the simple systems…gratifying to work on as well

I want to get a whole pad out the front, but expensive stuff!!

I certainly wouldn’t trust one either! But a great thing to have in the garage for fun
fun fact, that's a reliant RIALTO NOT A ROBIN....... get your models correct....

Maybe you should do your research before commenting. Thats a Robin mk2 NOT a Rialto. You can tell by the mk2 Fiesta headlights.
Nice heartwarming video and good to 'meet' your wife Liea/Lea???
What's that we see at the far end of your workshop now?
