Prince’s cinematic mix version of Nothing Compares 2 U is his best version. Sinead’s is the best emotional version. Chris Cornell’s version of Nothing compares 2 U is beautifully haunting.
try 'Fire on Babylon', 'Troy', 'I am Stretched on your Grave' , 'This is the last day of our Acquaintance' and 'You made me the Thief of your Heart', you wont regret it. RIP Sinead x
Prince wrote and recorded this song in 1984, but didn't release it. Instead, he gave it to The Family, a band that was signed to his Paisley Park record label. Sinéad O'Connor covered it five years later. When Sinéad cried In the video, it was a real tear. In the Rolling Stone Top 500 songs issue, she said, "I didn't intend for that moment to happen, but when it did, I thought, 'I should let this happen.'"In her memoir Rememberings, O'Connor explained that the lyric that triggered the tear was: All the flowers that you planted mama In the back yard All died when you went away Her mother, who was abusive toward her, died in a car accident in 1985 when Sinéad was 18. Peace out.
She is such an incredibly honest vocalist. You need to see her live performance of this from a concert in Chile to see her true intensity and vocal prowess.
Love how you pronounced her name correctly. Listen to Sinead on Dave Letterman's show with Van Moorrison, the Irish Chieftains. Absolutely beautiful. She sings many beautiful songs including Danny Boy and D' ont Cry For Me Argentina. Most of all, she was a brave outspoken young Irish woman who drew attention to many social issues. May she rest in peace with her beloved son.
R.i.p amazing women❤So much pain & suffering she endured and she just translated in music. I can relate to her ,i had a bad childhood & turn it into paintings. Nothing helps you more then art. When i heard this song for the first time i was small didn' t knew much english , just started to learn ,but the way she sing made me cry ❤
I lived in the Cleveland area when this was released. This song was SO huge on radio in the Summer of 88' that even the main local rock station played it! You know it was a huge hit when a traditionally rock based station (who played Black Sabbath - haha!) was even playing it! 🤣 And yes... Prince wrote this beautiful song 💜
Troy is an amazing song by her. Last Day of Our Acquaintance, Red Football, and many others are amazing as well. Jackie is short but she just burns the whole way through, especially if you watch the live AOL version. In all of her songs she shines through as an earnest, sensitive person that wears her emotions in her voice.
Don't like your use of past tense, it would take more than Hollywood to destroy her, she is still going strong, granted her career has taken some strange turns but that is more likely to be as a result of her childhood and upbringing
People can sing everywhere, there's nothing innate to us Irish. If I started singing, you'd think rats were fighting in a bucket. Pick a country or a people Anywhere, and you'll find fantastic singers and voices - the only issue may be whether you have a cultural appreciation of them, and can relate to how they sing or use their voice.
@vercoda9997 well of course there are amazing singers and bands from all around the world, but I think that music was ingrained in the Irish culture more than a lot of other countries, and besides I love the Irish accent. I'm sure that your rats in a bucket would still sound better than me 🤣
Just to let you all know, this beautiful woman has just died, today 26th July, 2023 age 56.She is being mourned all over the World tonight. Rest in peace, Sinead
As the story goes, the first time Prince heard Sinead he said this song had been waiting for her voice. He approached her to record it. And of course, Prince was right.
RIP Sinead... . Joined her dear Shane. She had a amazing voice and was a very deep person put great empathy in her singing... Peace, perfect peace at last for you Sinead
RIP. Sadly, Sinéad O’Connor died July 26th 2023 at the age of 56. She was such a great talent. This is my favorite song by her. Prince wrote it and I love it by him also. I just watched the last interview she did before her death. It was done last week with Piers Morgan. She said that she connected with her mom, who was killed in a car accident when Sinéad was 18yrs. old, when she sang this. Also, she spoke about Prince in the interview.
It Certainly matters that she sang an incredible, lovely version. ...but it also matters that the song was written by the Purple genius, "..like a bird without a song" SO Prince 💜
Prince an all time legend! Write incredible songs. RIP She did the most beautiful job singing this, check out princes version… incredible. This is from my era and I remember crying the first time I heard this and many times since
Born and raised a Catholic, buried a Muslim by Imams in a Catholic Grave in Ireland . ( Massive respect to Sineads Imams, who stepped outside the box and like Sinead showed us how to achieve true peace and inner bliss ) If Sineads LAST ACT doesn't teach us how true peace can be achieved and how we're all one. All our God's are linked, all religions are linked ( Read between the lines, its all the same song with a different beat ) It's a guide book! Teaching us all a lesson in her final Act. R.I.P. Sinead, Irelands true Soul in a voice 🇮🇪💚🙌
She is a legend and been trough so much. She was far ahead of her time and the music industry and media tried to boycot her. She spoke out against child abuse by the church when it was still not known by most people. She ripped the picture of the pope that hang in their house live in American tv show Saturday night life. The music company asked her to grow her hair longer and wear sexy clothes and she shaved of her hair. Her mother abused her and her sister severely when they grow up and she died when she was 18-19 but She still loved her and she cries in the song because she sings it for her. Prince wrote the song but was jealous on her succes and wanted her to sing it differently. She even run away out his house in the middle of the night and the police found her walking next to the freeway. Her son just committed suicide half year ago. Alhumdullah she found Islam since a couple years ago and is at peace now.
Prince wrote the song. Sinéad O’Connor was offered to sing Nothing Compares 2 U by Prince, from what I heard before he passed away. The song won Sinéad an MTV music video award for best song of the year., in the 1990’s.
This song came out when I was stationed in Germany, right after a bad breakup. Needless to say, I burnt this CD up. In fact, it’s one of the first singles I ever bought on CD.
she was thinking about her abusive mother who died in a car crash when sinead was 18, sinead writes about her experiences with her mother in some of her songs, in her song “Troy” from her debut album “The Lion And The Cobra” she wrote “I’ll Remember It, Dublin In A Rainstorm, Sitting In The Long Grass In Summer, Keeping Warm, I’ll Remember It.” which was a reference to when her mother locked her out of the house at night during a rainstorm, she called and wailed to be let back in, her cries were ignored as she watched the only light in the house turn off, she had to sleep in the garden shed for a few nights, shes at peace now.
Great reaction! The song's subject is one that is so relateable, often inciting our emotions. Her performance of it, and the video itself, was masterful! Great song choice.
It is angelic, hauntingly beautiful. Prince 's version has no passion, thwe is no comparison. Nobody compares to her here. It is stunning. Refreshing and different than all the others. Evwrytime I hear it, it sounds completley new. OMG it takes you elsewhere. May she RIP.
Shucks...i always loved this song. Never even realised it wasn't a romantic song... And that prince wrote it,but hmnn,he was smart for letting her make this magic....was never a prince fan,but now i can honestly say i was wrong
Thanks for the upload. Not a massive S O'C fan but some of her performances are spine-tingling. Check out her Danny Boy and the Irish language song "Óró sé do bheatha abhaile" This was shown in a film as a marching song for the anti-British pro-Independence militia in the 1920-22 war. Unforgettable. Peace and love from the UK.
Prince wrote this song in 1984. Sinead O’Connor did this cover version in 1990. It went to no.1 in the UK charts and no.1 in 18 other countries. She tweaked the script slightly to make it a female version. The part she had tears in (All the flowers you planted in the backyard Mama) was thinking about her mum, who died in a car crash three weeks before. She had a very difficult life with her mum, and wanted to forgive her, but it was too late. All the other lyrics of this song (written by Prince) wasn’t about her life. She chose this song because she loved it herself.
I hope this is taken with the genuine intent behind it. I love watching African American people react to rock and pop that they've never heard. The reactions are always fun to watch. 😊
Pretty please react to "Sinéad O'Connor - Troy (Pinkpop Festival 1988)". There are hundreds of reactions out there to "Nothing Compares 2 U", bur to my knowledge only one to that version of Troy. Sure, there are a handfull to the official video, but the live version showcases her talent in a much more raw and authentic manner.
This lady could sing a phone book! A beautiful voice and a very misunderstood person. I don’t agree with everything she did politically but I do understand she had reasons behind it. “Success Made a Failure of Our Home” is another good song. Great video you guys. RIP Sinead 💔

Irish accent!
If you liked this you should definitely do a reaction to “Stay” by Shakespears Sister. An unusual ballad from the same era.
Prince’s cinematic mix version of Nothing Compares 2 U is his best version.
Sinead’s is the best emotional version.
Chris Cornell’s version of Nothing compares 2 U is beautifully haunting.
Her voice is beautiful and from the heart ❤️
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭Sinéad Te extrañare por siempre!!😢😢
Sinéad O'Connor RIP, I hope you have now found peace, bless you.

RIP Sinead O’Connor 💔
Her beautiful Irish accent
Thank you guys for honoring her ❤
try 'Fire on Babylon', 'Troy', 'I am Stretched on your Grave' , 'This is the last day of our Acquaintance' and 'You made me the Thief of your Heart', you wont regret it. RIP Sinead x
She has a rare voice and I'm still getting goosebumps when I hear her hit those high notes... #Sing on Sinead 😌😌😚
It's wonderful to see you respond to and feel the sheer power of the emotional delivery.
She was so gorgeous in this clip, with her Audrey Hepburn eyes.

Don't you mean tears? She had tears running down both cheeks.
Her live performance in Chile 1990 ..mind blowing
She is such an incredibly honest vocalist. You need to see her live performance of this from a concert in Chile to see her true intensity and vocal prowess.
This song still gives me chills after so many years!! Great reaction!!🤘🤘
RIP you beautiful soul

Suaimhneas síorraidhe dhi. Beidh sí i n-ár gcuimhne go deo na ndeor.
her version is superior to any other with real emotion!
She recorded this not long after her mother passed. They had always had a tumultuous relationship and nothing was every solved. She's from Ireland.
Yes, though her mother died five years precious 😊
The belts interspersed with the purity of her head voice are just sublime.
RIP Sinead O'Connor.
🙏⚘💛⚘💛⚘🙏
R.I.P Sinéad....What A voice, what A song...Creds to Prince for making this True.....😊

A song called the Foggy Dew during irelands struggles. Her voice gives so much depth to the song. It’s with the Chrieftens.many genres
Prince wrote and recorded this song, but her rendition is a different kind of beautiful. She brought this song new life.
This girl was a real one. Hollywood eat her up and spit her out. It was so sad to watch. Because she was real and sincere
Don't like your use of past tense, it would take more than Hollywood to destroy her, she is still going strong, granted her career has taken some strange turns
but that is more likely to be as a result of her childhood and upbringing
@@jameswiglesworth5004 There’s a lot of things going on mentally with her. Most blame Hollywood. You don’t seem to know much about her
She had nothing to do with Hollywood.
She has always been a bit off the wall.
Incredible singer though
How could y'all not have heard of Sinead??
This was a huge No.1 on both sides of Atlantic.
Nice reaction! Those Irish seem to have a natural music ability. Please check out The Cranberries, another amazing Irish voice.

Hermosa bella la amo
I remember Sinead ripping up a photo of the pope on T.V. that pretty much ended her career, but got a lot of respect from me!
As the story goes, the first time Prince heard Sinead he said this song had been waiting for her voice. He approached her to record it. And of course, Prince was right.
Sinead O'Connor - Troy 👌🏼
