We’re used to such slick and heavily produced music videos. Yet here is one of the most famously captivating videos of all time, so simple, comprised primarily of a close-up of her beautifully expressive and powerfully honest face, laying bare all the heartfelt emotion she carried within. Just devastating.
I think you guys really hit on what made her so compelling: beyond sheer talent, she was a mix of strength and vulnerability. No matter how much trauma her activism-and the overwhelmingly hateful reactions to it-inflicted upon her sensitive soul , she just could not deny the truth of her deeply-ingrained moral compass and her determination to do what was right, however costly that turned out to be. Simply put, she was brave as hell. I think that’s one of the reasons she was such a incredible artist-that, and the passionate sincerity of all she did . RIP, beautiful soul. Ye ne’er shall be forgot.

Sinead was someone who refused to be packaged for the marketplace. She kept her hair short often as it relates to her abusive mother making her and her sister cut their hair off. She wouldn't wear short skirts like the record executives wanted her to. She was a born rebel and she is how she lived. She was paradoxically vulnerable and strong as steel. I will always love her.

This is why Sinead fought hard to put on blast Child Abusers (Her dad also had part in her abuse). She had such a horrible childhood in the hands of very abusive parents. RIP Sweet Angel 😥🙏🦋♥

Prince physically abused Sinead. Sinead's mother psychologically abused her. She grew up in a divided Ireland. She exposed the child abuse of Catholic alter boys LIVE on Saturday Nigh Live Ripping up a picture of the Pope. She was shunned by the industry for speaking the truth. And still she overcame to be one of the greatest singers in our time. Sinead you will be missed and remembered forever. Respect.

No, it didn`t take a long time for her `career`to bounce back. Her fans NEVER left her. If you want to see HER response towards all the haters of Truth.. watch her Next performance.. the one AFTER she tore that picture up. She was set to perform at Bob Dylans Tribute Concert at Madison Square Gardens, in NYC. When it was her turn, she was boo-ed MERCILESLY. Her response is THE SINGLE MOST BADASS response towards something like that. Truly epic. When you see her heaving afterwards, she`s not `losing it`. She`s ridding herself of the toxicity of the crowd that only showed her hatred.
That`s THE performance of Sinead O`Connors career.

I just read her autobiography and I have so much respect for her. She grew up in an extremely abusive home, both physically and emotionally. Ireland at that time was very oppressive and the Catholic church was very powerful and no one questioned nor spoke out in public against it. That photo of the Pope belonged to her deceased mother and it was in my opinion, ripping it was symbolic of her protest against the power of the Catholic church, including the sexual abuse of children, and the hold that her mother had over her. She stated in her book that when she sings this song, she thinks of her mother, and that is probably why she left the word "mama" in the song. She both loathed and loved her abusive mother. She refused to fit the mold of "pop star" and stayed true to herself even when it derailed her career. Her music was her voice and was not a means to fame and fortune. She stayed true to herself and was so ahead of the time. It's heartbreaking that she is is gone far too soon.

Madonna did NOT mock Sinead. Madonna was trying to show that the act Sinead did was not deserving of all the hate she got. That it was ridiculous people sought to attack Sinead instead of think about what she was stating. Madonna time and again praised Sinead for her bravery and strength. Also stating she was enamored with her voice. The moment on SNL was not mainly about the church’s abuse of children. It was about its overall lies and misdeeds to and on varying issues. MAINLY a woman’s right to choose.

We in Ireland 🇮🇪 knew about the Catholic Church abuse against children and single girls who were pregnant. It took a decade before the Americans knew what we did. Brave girl to rip up his picture he was hiding the abuse and he’s now a Saint. Sinéad was laid to rest in Ireland 🇮🇪 this morning. She was an amazing singer, activist and extremely charitable.
