I'm so glad this video was recommended to me! I'm a little past the halfway point in Metaphor right now and as I was grinding, I was watching this video. I'm blown away by how similar the Human designs are and how you were able to find them in the paintings! When time lets you, hopefully, there will be an updated version of this video showcasing all the human designs and their references to the paintings. Nice work!
Woah, I'm so glad I was able to found this video, I've played the game and I loved it, this info is really great and now I know where the Humans models in game came from, thank you for sharing this!
5:02 its the final boss albeit less on the "Fly" Aesthetics. and more of the "Eating Someone" aesthetic. Its actually him charging up for an attack and you need to stop him from fully swallowing the food to prevent the attack from nuking your entire party.
What a great video, definitely something I was looking for. From the content alone, I can already see you are a fellow SMT/Atlus enjoyer. Can't wait for the updated version of this video!
衝撃的なシュールなデザインはボスの絵から来ていたのかとスッキリしました。素晴らしい解説をありがとうございます! This video really made my doubt clear which i had when i saw the mysterious creatures in the game, " Did i see them before??" Thank you!
Such a great video!! Thank you for the work! From what I've seen, the Homo Tenta does have at least a reference to Bosch! On their back is the B or crown or whatever it actually is, this "form" is also on the knife from the Knife-Ears from Bosch
In medieval times strawberries were considered symbolism for Lust, a cardinal sin. Birds were symbolic for evil and we can probably guess the tree branches with the apples is the forbidden fruit.
is an ode to bosch this fucking game, and not just bosch the 15th century, the author of the novel they keep reading? More? as in Thomas more's utopia! such a fucking great game
What a cool algorithm pull, is this the first and only video of yours so far? It’s a pretty novel concept to analyze modern media and see how they were inspired by classic painters keep up the cool work!
Well not exactly. While finding videos that look at modern media influences via paintings is rare. Finding influences especially of older media and ideas has been done with other games An example are like for the souls series and elden ring where Tarnished archeologist looks at historical inspiration and influences that can be found in elden ring. Quelaag does this for all kinds of topics including the esoteric. Maxc derrat also does this with gsmes by finding games that were influenced in some way by Kabbalah and/or alchemy. He discusses the subjects that were used and how they were used. But that isnt his only type of content.
When I got to Homo Avades I was like:"Damn, I know this from somewhere". Recalled back my memories from seeing it in my schoolbooks about Jeroentje Bosch.
Metaphor to me also thematically has references to the holy trinity where your aspects are triangles and the religious sect of the game, the head person has a staff of a upside down triangle or he's gone away from faith and the holy trinity.
First and foremost, those designs are wildly creative - i haven't connected them instantly to Bosch, so i've lloked on those enemies and the first thing on my mind was - what is this? It felt otherworldly yet familiar, conceptually different from FF, or other wild boss designs - not some unexplainable metamorphoses and weird for the sake of being weird, but the whole design was presenting a little story, a concept, something you can interpret for yourself, a metaphor(pun unintended) . They've struck gold with those designs, in my opinion
If you're up for other games with bizarre creatures, look up the upcoming The Midnight Walk. Possibly Judero as well As for more specifically Boschean stuff, look up the Zeno Clash series.1, 2 and Clash: Artifacts of Chaos. It's not *all* Boschean, some designs are from woodcuts known as the Drolatic Dreams of Pantagruel, while other inspirations are lesser-known prehistoric animals such as the Entelodont ("Hell Pig"). NEVERTHELESS, it's a game series very, very striking for its strange and bizarre creatures, characters and general world. Especially in Zeno Clash 2 and Artifacts of Chaos, is there stuff to discover about the world. And there's the upcoming Hieronymus game too.
I just realized too, that the Homo Tentas are the same color and design as the teeth on the other Humans that have visible teeth, like the baby one, and the worm one. They can be kind of like "offspring" of the Humans
The sand worm with a human head creature is likely inspired by the 4th book in the Dune series, God Emperor of Dune. The main character is a part human/part sand worm abomination.
There are no references to be found here, they're directly copied from Bosch paintings. Without wanting to spoil, I find it highly likely that Metaphor was hugely inspired by Madoka Magica as well.
There's the Zeno Clash game series that kind of does that. Not fully Boschean as there's inspirations from lesser-known prehistoric animals too and some have equated the creatures' appearances to something from The Dark Crystal. Either way: *well* worth looking into. Can especially warmly recommend Clash: Artifacts of Chaos, it's the most solid game out of the three Zeno Clash games so far.
4:39 The ear-looking with a knife out is another Human in the game.
Sharp Ears!
what does this symbol means ?!
lol fuck those things in Dragon temple 😂
we need an updated version now that the full game has released!!
*PLEASE!!*

Highly underrated video. May the algorithm bless you.
Nice video, really enjoyed hearing this perspective on the game's art.

that spoiled the final boss for me but now i’m curious. say no more tho
@todd3143 eh not really spoiling much but if you knew the Boss' backstory...
That's the REAL Spoiler! ;)
That boss design comes from Satan in Dante's Divine Comedy. In the poem it is described as a demon with 6 wings and 3 faces that eat sinners
What a great video, definitely something I was looking for. From the content alone, I can already see you are a fellow SMT/Atlus enjoyer. Can't wait for the updated version of this video!
Woah that big ear with blade in the middle.. Its really human in metaphor

Isn't it a pomegranate?
Yooo this channel only one video? This is a really good first video!
Wow, I didn't know that so many were either heavily inspired by, or straight up lifted from Bosch's art.
0:30 the H.B.s
Hieronymus Boschtrosities
Note: The Garden of Earthly Delights, a piece by Bosch, had a peculiar creature near the middle of the center panel.
*It's a blue hedgehog.*

"Fish with some sexy legs" that made me giggled 🤭

at 4:10 we have two sides:
left is "I'M FUCKING ANGRY RAAAAAAAAA"
on the right is "I'm actually pretty chill man"
wow man this is great. keep it up
6:23 hold up is there a boss rush mode

Excelent Work my dude!!!!

Mind blowing... i just thought that first big human was just lsd, but its actually lsd from renaissance!
*ERGOT* my fair peasant! Never eat and save yourself!!

Based dutch artists!!

GOTY
"""""inspired""""" by
I've seen Sonic OCs with more originality lol
I thought the game's alternate name is Allegory: Unsubtle
There are no references to be found here, they're directly copied from Bosch paintings.

ooooooo its spider-sharknado oooo
gotta love how all humans in this game have the prefix of “homo”
Imagine if thier going Metaphor refantazio 2, the Humans are based on juni ito's drawings
baby boss was crazy..., rest were nothing too special, .. Persona / SMTN have better designs
Nothing crazy? Bro they are better than 70% of persona normal enemys
@master-d2776
noway.., the art style & variety in the others are way better
What a boring game... I wish they made persona 6 or SMT which ever there is now
Can we just have a Demon race in future Megaten games just featuring these monsters, call it the Homo race.
Maybe the Malgum race to show how they are distorted perceptions of humanity
There's the Zeno Clash game series that kind of does that. Not fully Boschean as there's inspirations from lesser-known prehistoric animals too and some have equated the creatures' appearances to something from The Dark Crystal.
