The user base was still much larger on ps2 and it was way easier to release a game on a platform that you know the "ins" and "outs" of. It really wasn't until like 2009 with the ps3 slim and marketing switch up that people really started to jump onto the ps3.

My Internet went down during the freak snow storm in FL a week ago. I figured I'd use that opportunity to catch up on some single player games, that I bought for full price. I fired up Ragnarok, played a few minutes, and got a notification saying the game was about to be shut down because it couldn't connect to the Internet and verify my license. Same thing happened for Stellar Blade, TLOU PART 1, and 2. I was fckn pissed off. I couldn't even play single player games I've owned for a long time, because my Internet went out. That's absolute bull shit

I feel like if Sony really cares they should just extend the generation by up to 7 or 8 years past launch to make up for it. Personally I didn't get a ps5 til really a year ago so ps5 is still pretty new to me and I haven't played enough games on it.

Nobody cares what Sony says. PS4 still has enormous player base. No major publisher (except Sony itself) will abandon it. The fact that Capcom still releases all new Resident Evil games on PS4 and they are ran pretty well still amazes me. But the biggest things that will carry PS4 for many years in the future is Fortnite and Genshin. As long as this games still supports PS4 - console won't die.

Wow. The fact that _TLoU Part II_ and _HZD_ have "remastered" versions at all still speaks volumes about how little Sony have to offer in terms of games this generation. They keep having to repackage the old ones. When the PS5 launched with the genuinely excellent remake of _Demon's Souls_ by Bluepoint I had no idea it was actually setting the tone for the entire generation, which is coasting by on past glories and keeping profit up by raising subs prices, never discounting the hardware and so on. It's kinda mind blowing actually, and not in a good way. The benefit is it makes the PS4 library look even stronger by comparison. Honestly I've gotten more enjoyable use out of my jailbroken PS4 Pro than any PS5 I've owned.

100% agree. As a business analyst, reviewing earnings statements, the only thing that makes sense is they got greedy and main goal is extracting as much money from the base as possible with minimal effort. Not requiring PSN accounts to play some PS games on PC is great and all but WHY haven't they put those games back on sale in non-PSN supported countries as a result 😢 Hoping Sony fix this soon. Because that's potentially a bigger thing in terms of leaving money on the table, not selling your games to 170+ countries vs requiring existing people to give them a nickname and password.

Herman green-lit Horizon Lego, Concord and probably the 2 recent cancelled live service games. Then, Japan sees this killstreak, while Xbox ships their 2b dollar games everywhere and destroy hardware sales, only to see Herman doing the exact same thing. I'm not even mentioning his predecessor. The western division is actively trying to sink the ship before Xbox.

I got PS Plus Premium on sale in the UK a week ago. So far I’ve streamed Puppeteer (using my PS3 save), got a bunch of trials installed, currently playing Shadow of the Colossus, and utterly failed to get into Demon’s Souls 😁
ps4 still has lots of players especially since lots of newer cross gen games on the ps5 are available for it too. I've been playing AC6 on ps4 online and the community is still good.
I guess the ps4 portable is a no go then. I doubt they’d be removing ps4 games from plus monthly if they were planning on extending the lifecycle with a handheld.

A members vote is a really good idea. Like a real election they can still restrict the range of choices but people would still feel like they participated.

The Last Guardian is the only game that makes me feel physically sick. I don't know why but I had to put it down every 20 minutes and eventually gave up on it. So strange. I wish it didn't make me feel like that because I really want to complete it.

I'm gonna keep it real with you chief. The PS4 is my last Sony console. I'm not buying anymore of their stuff. Since I moved to PC 5 years ago, I've had an amazing experience and met a ton of new people. And the games are always half the price of Sony. Plus, I can play any game I want, regardless of platform. I'll continue to collect for the PS4, by buying up all the super rare and hard to find CEs for dirt, but once the plug is pulled, I'm out. It's a real shame man. They just can't get things right anymore.

So is it just me are have Playstation Stars Campaigns not been updated lately? Are they getting phased out? To be honest I always skip the ones that give digital collectibles and only try to complete the ones that give additional points? In fact I've sometimes bought a game to complete a campaign. But as a big gamer I more often than not get frustrated when I realize I already own every game listed under a "buy one of these game for X amount of points" campaign, since they don't count if you already bought the game before starting campaign. Its one thing to get rid of PS Stars campaigns but I hope they don't get rid of points in general for just buying games, It's been a great deal and has often motivated me to buy a full priced $70 game instead of waiting for sale just because I get $5 or $10 credit towards it.
I've only played Forza Horizon 2 and Horizon 3, and I didn't really get a lot of time in on either game cause I had other stuff to play. I've already wishlisted Horizon 5, though, and I can't wait to play it on my brand new Samsung OLED TV.
Just checked a few random games on the PS site (Horizon FW/GoW Ragnarok/RE4Remake), their purchase price also includes the download for the ps5 version. Horizon ZD is the exception.
By the point in which PS+ will stop featuring PS4 games, PS5 will have been 6 years old and PS4 will have been 13 years old. Though I can't find an official date, PS4 manufacturing was discontinued in either 2022 or 2023. Nothing lasts forever and companies don't support a product forever.
Yea, delisted after six or seven years or something. That is plenty of time to buy it if you really want the game. This is an inevitable issue when you have car licences from real world car companies in your game.

Beyond: Two Souls was definitely the most polarizing of the 3 so I get why a lot of people rate it as the weakest, but if you are willing to give the game the attention it deserves and explore its thematic storytelling beyond face value (pun intended), you might agree with me that it’s the best of the 3. Not requiring PSN accounts to play some PS games on PC is great and all but WHY haven't they put those games back on sale in non-PSN supported countries as a result 😢 Hoping Sony fix this soon. Because that's potentially a bigger thing in terms of leaving money on the table, not selling your games to 170+ countries vs requiring existing people to give them a nickname and password.
I'm so glad Herman Hulst isn't CEO anymore, i think it is well deserved that he isn't at the top anymore, if he was the one that encouraged Concord as being good then i'm glad he's not at the top anymore also, if he had influence on the Live Service push then that's even more reason for him not to be at the top calling the shots (Live Service can't be allowed to take over the games industry)

Herman green-lit Horizon Lego, Concord and probably the 2 recent cancelled live service games. Then, Japan sees this killstreak, while Xbox ships their 2b dollar games everywhere and destroy hardware sales, only to see Herman doing the exact same thing. I'm not even mentioning his predecessor. The western division is actively trying to sink the ship before Xbox.
Honestly removing PS4 games of PS Plus also sucks as a PS5 user, like, the PS5 is backwards compatible, and feels like I would lose more than benefit from it
I got PS Plus Premium on sale in the UK a week ago. So far I’ve streamed Puppeteer (using my PS3 save), got a bunch of trials installed, currently playing Shadow of the Colossus, and utterly failed to get into Demon’s Souls 😁

ps4 still has lots of players especially since lots of newer cross gen games on the ps5 are available for it too. I've been playing AC6 on ps4 online and the community is still good.

Yeah, I was waiting for you to cover this because everybody was saying he was fired. He was demoted, and when I read it, I was like he still CEO a worldwide studios. He didn’t get demoted. He just has to report to the guy now.
Seems like a lot of double talk to cover up that he was essentially demoted. He may still have the same job and the same title, but when you add another layer of management over his job, you have basically demoted the decision making ability of that job.

Honestly, I’d much rather prefer only 2 games on PS Plus Essential BUT THEY HAVE TO BE GOOODD. 2 good games are better than 3 shitty games. Or 1 good game and 1 niche game.
They can also do a voting for 1 of the games. Give people 3 options and they can choose 1 out of those 3. But this will never happen sadly
A members vote is a really good idea. Like a real election they can still restrict the range of choices but people would still feel like they participated.

The Last Guardian is the only game that makes me feel physically sick. I don't know why but I had to put it down every 20 minutes and eventually gave up on it. So strange. I wish it didn't make me feel like that because I really want to complete it.

I'm gonna keep it real with you chief. The PS4 is my last Sony console. I'm not buying anymore of their stuff. Since I moved to PC 5 years ago, I've had an amazing experience and met a ton of new people. And the games are always half the price of Sony. Plus, I can play any game I want, regardless of platform.
I'll continue to collect for the PS4, by buying up all the super rare and hard to find CEs for dirt, but once the plug is pulled, I'm out. It's a real shame man. They just can't get things right anymore.

Racing games are very casual friendly, there is planty of people who play only racing games and FIFA for example
There's not enough PS5 games to be presented as PS plus offerings, so it's going to be interesting to see where the service goes next year. Maybe MS as a 3rd party publisher is going to help out. :)
Pubs can't keep making games for a 12 year old piece of hardware without making huge restrictions on the fundamental tech the game runs on.
They already are with Xbox Series S, Nintendo Switch, and soon Switch 2.

So is it just me are have Playstation Stars Campaigns not been updated lately? Are they getting phased out? To be honest I always skip the ones that give digital collectibles and only try to complete the ones that give additional points? In fact I've sometimes bought a game to complete a campaign. But as a big gamer I more often than not get frustrated when I realize I already own every game listed under a "buy one of these game for X amount of points" campaign, since they don't count if you already bought the game before starting campaign. Its one thing to get rid of PS Stars campaigns but I hope they don't get rid of points in general for just buying games, It's been a great deal and has often motivated me to buy a full priced $70 game instead of waiting for sale just because I get $5 or $10 credit towards it.

Just checked a few random games on the PS site (Horizon FW/GoW Ragnarok/RE4Remake), their purchase price also includes the download for the ps5 version. Horizon ZD is the exception.

By the point in which PS+ will stop featuring PS4 games, PS5 will have been 6 years old and PS4 will have been 13 years old. Though I can't find an official date, PS4 manufacturing was discontinued in either 2022 or 2023. Nothing lasts forever and companies don't support a product forever.

I love Gran Turismo more than Forza but I'd welcome their main sim series too. Horizon is super fun and I'll definitely be picking that up.
Forza Horizon will be a limited time release since Microsoft delisted Forza Horizon from digital store when the music licensing rights expire.
I mean, this is how it always is with licensing. Driveclub was entirely delisted for this reason: licensed cars.
Yea, delisted after six or seven years or something. That is plenty of time to buy it if you really want the game.
This is an inevitable issue when you have car licences from real world car companies in your game.

They are still playable and online works, just you can't buy them and will not get any extra content

Sony has most likely pushed me away from wanting the ps6 to wanting a PC instead this gen.
Beyond: Two Souls was definitely the most polarizing of the 3 so I get why a lot of people rate it as the weakest, but if you are willing to give the game the attention it deserves and explore its thematic storytelling beyond face value (pun intended), you might agree with me that it’s the best of the 3.
