- Welcome back to IGN Game Scoop!, the ONLY video game podcast! This week your Omega Cops -- Daemon Hatfield, Sam Claiborn, and Justin Davis -- are discussing the most pivotal years in gaming, A Short Hike, Lil Gator Game, Spyro the Dragon, and more. And, of course, they play Video Game 20 Questions.
I love the discussions of vintage magazines. The happy memories come flooding in every time.
Thanks for another great episode--and for reading my question! Really cool to hear all your thoughts on it.
🤘🤘
The Jared “ooh oohs” were like a dagger in the heart. We need a scoop reunion tour soon!
As soon as Justin said James Pond I knew that was the correct answer due to Daemon’s reaction to the licensed property question. Nicely job anyway. Thank you for another Scoop Gem! 👍👍
Some of the flying levels were hard imo. Spyro isnt for just kids.
The first game is piss easy imo, the second and third are notably harder.
I actually just started Spyro remastered with my kids. I think I agree with Justin. I'm having a great, chill time but it probably isn't the best so far. I actually appreciate how short it is too. Just a chill experience all around.
I also played A Short Hike this summer and loved it. Another just chill experience. Highly recommended.
Spyro 1 does get harder in the later levels though (Tree Tops for example). Spyro 2 has some hard challenges for orbs too. Spyro 3 is generally the easiest one.
For some weird reason he's not even playing the remaster, which is better.
@@Ecclesia_ Yeah he's not trying to collect everything at all, clearly.
Sam, love the 78 v 45 history lesson. Well done.
Sam is so impressive, man
Crazy that Stewart Copeland did the entire soundtrack for Spiro
The 🎵🎶 is amazing, it gave the in game world a magical vibe. Mystery, wonder, whimsy
Spyro and Crash Bandicoot were originally published by Universal Interactive, which later became Vivendi Games. Vivendi merged with Activision in 2009.
Great show guys🤙🏽
Spyro 2 Riptos Rage is an all timer
I want a game scoop shirt that has the scoop logo on the front and the Castlevania 3 name entry “help me” screen on the back. 😂
Great episode as always. Lightyear Frontier is my fav cosy game of recent times, and it's on Gamepass.
Valiant effort, fellas! If the game was 21 questions, you would’ve won.
That was my first issue of EGM. So many memories. I miss physical media
A Short HIke is one of my favorite games of all time. A masterpiece!
Sam laughing always gets me 59:16😂
I think this is the first time I’ve got 20 questions and you guys didn’t 😮
Daemon was correct to chuckle at the licensed game question 👍
dang no spoilers
Fascinating to see the Genesis/pc hybrid in the mag, as in 1993 I bought my first pc and it was an Amstrad Megaplus pc! It consisted of a 386SX25 and a Megadrive (Genesis). The hard drive was a huge 110mb, yes, mb! And Wing Commander came with it.
FYI: The Wii is less than 2 Gamecubes ductaped together.
The Gamecube has exactly the same hardware architecture as the Gamecube but shrank down to smaller Circuits. This made it possible to increase the clock rate without overheating.
So, it's basically an overclocked Game Cube.
Terminator 2 used to be my all time favorite movie as a kid
James Pond's aquatic games was great, little spin off
The journey to the past, so many magazines kept us going. I remember seeing those Sega consoles in that issue. Wild how many ideas Sega had back then
Oh btw Magic Sword was playable as a featured title, in the arcade within the Battle Hub in SF6
I’d say Don Matrick’s botched E3 presentation would rank high up for the most pivotal moment for Xbox. That was the first domino to fall towards Xbox’s purchase of Bethesda and Activision, not to mention the creation of Game Pass.
“Bats are bugs” -Calvin (Calvin & Hobbes)
Did justin really not know bats are mammals?? 😂
About Piball - Revenge of the 'Gator:
I think it's a sequel to Piball on the NES which is aldo made by Hal, I think. And the tables are built similarly but with a Gator skin/mod.
The return of music at the end! A+ 1:14:40
It's too bad we didn't get a Spyro sequel after the remake.
It's rumoured to be in development.
It's weird to listen to someone who have not grown up with Spyro/Crash Bandicoot instead of Mario/Nintendo and how different the perceptions are.
Also, Spyro 2 and 3 are much better than the original, even if not much harder.
Every episode of this show is people who grew up pre PS1. Cool that you get to hear some older folks opinions and experiences!
Justin, where can I get a nicely job sticker like the one Daemon has on the back of his computer? Nothing on the IGN store...
Ninja gaiden II Black is absolutely a Deamon game. Drop everything and play one of the best action games of all time. What are you thinking?
Agree 100% so much fun
I always remembered it as the Dreamcast was great but had two consoles on the horizon that were more powerful with the Xbox and PlayStation but might be mixing memories
Dream team this week. Great episode. Thanks guys!!
13:11 loved Kunistu
I haven't gone back to Darkest Dungeon 1 since I started playing 2. Admittedly it didn't grab me at first either, but I settled into it. feels like there's a lot more randomness and variability when traversing and getting trinkets among a few other annoyances.
Someone more talented than me needs to make a game scoop shirt in style of metal slug character select screen with the 4-5 regular omega cops
That intro ❤❤❤
Looks like Black Tiger is available to buy in the Capcom Arcade 2 collection
NVC has the best hosts
After A Short Hike Sam should def play Toem and Chicory, I think both of those are better. Tho Chicory is not quite as chill.
Love me some cold-blooded bats!
lol
Anyone know any games like yoku's island express? I LOVE that game
If a scientist wanted to get a formula for 100% smug, they'd only have to take a little bit of Sam's blood..... lol ...... James Pond was amazing on the Amiga 600. Great episode though, great for us old gamers.
Do you remember James pond's aquatic games? Always preferred that to actual James pond haha
Poetic justice that 20 Questions was lost. A huge assist about the game being a licence, with Daemon giggling and say "not really". The answer is a straight No, of course, with James Pond more a spoof of the Bond licence. Daemon's answer immediately should have made the the crew twig, especially when they mentioned James Pond several times later, and used the cheat to try confirm the game (naming several games then asking if they mentioned the right one).
TIL Link's Awakening was influenced by David Lynch..? 🤔
I doubt it was truly an influence on Nintrendo to be honest, the "woo" has always been part of the Zelda franchise anyway.
Forza on PS5 is huge news.
BATS ARE COLD BLOODED RIGHT
BATS DONT HAVE FUR
Some of them definately do i've seen footage.
bro some bats drive cars even
Noooooo the streak!!!! Had to go hard mode lol ❤
SSSCCCCCCOOOOOOOOOPPPPPPPPPP
The Nintendo PlayStation was sold 300k I belive. Totally insane.

Nah, most of Justin’s takes are pretty cold lol
Rarely do I disagree with him
Scoop!

is this really the person you want to be?
@@MikeG82 Americans do say "like" a lot
@@toot1st105 that is xenophobic, is this the person you want to be?
I've thought about counting them per episode
@@MikeG82 You may need to look up what xenophobic means.
Another week and still no mention of xbox's amazing developer direct. Could have spoken about the new doom or a new ninja gaidan but nope lets dust of an old magazine we normlly only do for slow news weeks. if it was playstation or nintendo direct the whole episode would be about it
they did mention it, but also podcast unlocked covered it pretty well already. whats left to say about the 5 games shown?
Xbox is cooked 😂
It would have been nice to get their opinions on the games shown.@@WusijiDoctor
Wow this Spyro slander really needs to chill out man. That game is wonderful. Lost a lot of respect for Justin's game taste with some of the comments made about it. Does the camera get in the way at times (sure), but as a package this has some of the greatest music in any video game and it is still my favorite game of all time.
Put the Nostalgia down son..and nobody gets hurt. 🫡

@ dont ride too hard bro
When’s the last time you played a Spyro game
Please talk less, Sam. It's not necessary to continually talk over other people. No one is interrupting you. Kindly show others the same courtesy.
buzzkill
If the hosts who are actually there don’t have a problem with it, it doesn’t make sense for you to have one. The audacity and pickiness of listeners blows my mind, honestly
There’s an audio lag in their session it’s really not that deep lmaoooo
OOOOOP!
