    The problem with ws2 is its heavy by volume so it just sinks to the bottom and won't stay in suspension. You could try this test with nano tungsten. Or better yet have that bearing or whatever that is that gets scared and the wheel that turns against it coated with ws2 which would show the real properties of ws2. I'm currently working on the equipment used to coat parts in ws2 but don't have it up and going just yet. Coated is really a bad term it actually gets "impinged" or etched into the surface of the part. Pretty neat stuff.

      Did you ever get it up and running. I've been wanting to coat some of my gun parts with ws2. I've already been adding ws2 powders to my Slip 2000 EWL 30.

      WS2 works best suspended in grease. I've used high temp/high pressure grease mixed with WS2 on my AR style rifles for a while now, and it's beat every other lubricant I've tried using by a wide margin.

      @@Joe_Friday unfortunately I have not got my setup running. I spent thousands on all this stuff and haven’t had much time for it. I figured the high performance car and gun parts guys would really be interested in ws2.

      @@BuckFoeJiden thanks for the info. I might try that on some of my parts till I can get my set up going. This stuff is amazing when used correctly. If I can get my equipment going I could impinge parts with ws2 and it would never wipe off.

      @@curlracing276 from my understanding of how ws2 works, it'll impinge onto the surface on its own throughout the use of the part. A lot of people in the reloading game do something similar with MoS2. They just tumble their projectiles in powdered MoS2 and it bonds to the surface very well. You can apply it like DLP with an air gun as well, but I really wouldn't recommend that without proper protective gear, as WS2 is like half a micron in particulate size.
      An old Bushmaster AR, which ran me around $350 in a Black Friday sale back in 2018 had some MoS2 grease applied to it in a similar fashion. The entirety of the bolt carrier group still has an MoS2 coating, even though the grease has long since departed.
      The internals of the rifle show almost zero signs of wear.
      Taking into account how similarly the two materials behave, I assume WS2 will do the same thing, only better.

    LOL the recommended dose of WS2 is 5g per liter - you put in at least 50 times as much!

    Which is the best additive to engine oil to reduce friction?

  • @saintmichael5814
    @saintmichael5814 4 года назад +7

    If you want to get a good result, just replace the engine oil with gear lubricant or cutting oil. This test is misleading. It is because engine oil is designed for hydrodynamic lubrication not suitable for boundary lubrication purpose.

      @edogsx  4 года назад +6

      If you watch the other videos on my channel you will see that there are big differences between one oil and another.
      It is true that in an engine lubrication is mainly given by the oil-dynamic pressure (as in the bushings) but not only, in many components it is not the pressure that separates the metal surfaces but the cut resistance and the EP additives present in the lubricant (cams shafts, snap rings, gears), in fact in all motor oils there are zinc and phosphorus "ZDDP" which are the most used EP additives, if this type of lubrication was not also necessary in an engine the manufacturers would not use these ingredients. .
      I mainly test motorcycle oil and these use the same engine oil also for the gearbox and clutch ...

    WS2 does not work as an oil additive.
    You need burnish the bearing with the WS2 creating a very thin coating.

  • @driverjamescopeland
    @driverjamescopeland 7 месяцев назад

    You used waaaaay too much WS². Dual-bonded film thickness is a maximum of 1 micron. Adding more than is necessary only serves to inhibit the function of the carrier fluid (in this case, the motor oil).
